Early morning the peace was fractured by the teenage victim of a horrible crime. I heard someone shouting, and a female voice and theyre shouting somebody help me somewhere residents rushed out of their homes to help the girl. She just said somebody raped me. Somebody raped me. Thats all she kept on saying. Somebody raped me. Police say the 16yearold had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted somewhere in oakland. Then dumped naked and pepper sprayed in the face here. I borough out a bottle of water and gave it to her and it was 5 in the morning and cold, and without even thinking she poured the whole thing all over herself because she was hurting so bad. Oakland police took over the case because it began in that city. That was after Berkeley Police started the investigation. She was saying she was the victim of a possible Sexual Assault and then maybe robbery. Ultimately its their determination what actually had occurred. The girl was rushed to Highland Hospital in oakland for treatment of her injuries. There is no word on her condition. Anybody in that kind of pain and in that kind of situation, its awful, and we just hope shes all right. As yet, theres no description of the girls attacker or the car that they were driving. As i said minutes ago, opd said that she may have been the victim of human sex trafficking and they do tell me that this was something that happened in another city, not in oakland. Kevin pickens Parole Office spotted the problem. Pickens said he was just looking for cans at delmar high school. Even so he didnt have permission and is now in custody. San jose students say the conditions are so bad in one building its cause for some to faint. Broken airconditioning, potholes in the floors, broken blinds and windows that wont open. All things students say the university has failed to fix. Ktvus john fowler spoke with students to try to prove their point. About 100 san jose state students and some faculty members protested what they called intolerable conditions inside deadly moorhead hall, one of the oldest campus buildings, where chanting students today crowded steamy hallways. Its very hot in this building. There is no airconditioning. The heaters are on in the classrooms right now. The heaters are on. Warm air blew from vents. It was almost 80 degrees outside and almost every classroom they say windows wont open. Blinds dont work. The 57yearold elevator shutters and shakes. Its like straight out of a horror movie and that is ridiculous for a building that is in the heart of the silicon valley. They also held a faint in. At least three students have passed out in hot classrooms according to faculty members who say the administration has ignored their grievances for years. The students are now kind of taking it into the i dont want to say into the streets but into the halls to try to get some sense of justice for them. Ktvu followed a handful of students who charged the University President s office only to find him gone. This is part of a long history of campus activism. This is a small example of that. Plans are not yet final but this old building may be demolished. Todays Student Action may be for nothing. Another lesson in the way the system works. There is a new development tonight in san jose where cadaver dogs were sent in to whats left of the building where tv station kntv used to be located. It was destroyed by a huge fire. Reporter we actually just spoke with san jose fire officials and they confirmed for me 45 minutes ago that two different dogs alerted to the possibility of human remains here on this side of the building. Crews are working to excavate that area to determine if in fact there are human remains here. Were hearing that there possibly could be other pets that were inside the structure, so that could be a hit, but they are very much well trained in just looking for human remains. Fire investigators say they searched the burned outbuilding today with two dogs taking different search patterns both cadaver dogs alerted their handlers to the possibility of human remains at the same location. Crews say the dogs are very reliable trying to tell the difference between the remains of humans and other animals. At this point there is still no confirmation someone died in this fire. The man accused of starting the fire, 55yearold Stillman Feffer was in court accused of arson and burglary. He did not enter a plea and prosecutors asked for no bond in this case saying it could turn into a homicide investigation. Should a body be found then youre dealing with homicide and homicide during the course of an arson can be charged as murder. Reporter late this afternoon we got ahold of this fire investigators report. A witness tells fire investigators that she watched as feffer sprayed material on a mattress. If the crews find human remains he could face homicide charges when he returns from court a week from today. There has been another courtroom delay for the man charged in the death of morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. Garcia torrez in court to set a trial date. His defense attorney asked for a continue continuance. Legal analysts say prosecutors may have an ulterior motive. They want that death verdict possibility hanging over his head to see whether or not theres a possibility of a plea or perhaps some information from him to keep him off death row. This afternoon officers say that a woman was struck by a cab near bush and stockton streets. They say the woman is in ore 60s and was being treated for her injuries there at the scene. Fire officials at the scene said that her injuries are not lifethreatening. No word yet on whether the cab driver will be cited or charged. Just yesterday Afternoon Police said that a woman in a wheelchair was hit by a taxi near the citys United Nations mr. S. Nations plaza. Authorities say she was in a crosswalk and that the wheelchair may have protected her from serious injuries. In this case, the cab by was cited for failing to yield. A woman accused of hitting and killing an 82yearold woman and driving off was in court today. Tonight the death toll is at six, but its feared that hundreds more are dead. The ferry capsized quickly last night our time with almost 500 passengers on board. Most were High School Students on their way to a tourist island for an overnight trip. Dozens of military divers, sailor, marines and Police Officers responded plucking people from the water and the decks before the ferry went down. Divers have been looking for air pockets and survivors inside the sunken ferry. 164 people have been rescued and are sharing their terrifying stories. It was very intense. A man is dead after a daytime shooting that happened outside a neighborhood market. Someone in a passing car fired several shots and hit the man while he was standing near the entrance to the shariff market at 9 this morning. An attorney for the man accused of trying to open the door of a southwest jet in flight claims that his client had a panic attack. 23yearold joshua suggs from sacramento was taken into custody during an Emergency Landing in omaha on sunday, and he appeared in federal court in omaha today. His Attorney Says his client had some sort of psychotic episode and requested a mental evaluation for him. Suggs is charged with assault and intimidating the flight crew on a flight from chicago to sacramento. The charges are serious and carry a potential 20year sentence. Governor brown today called a special session of the legislature for one week from tomorrow to deal with our states rainy day fund. Governor brown wants to modify a constitutional provision already on the november ballot. His proposal would allow our state to put more money away in years when captain gains tax revenues are higher. It would also raise the maximum size of the reserves to 10 of general Fund Revenues and create a set aside for school funding. Governor brown says the fund is critical to avoid the budget deficits of the past ten years. Charging documents show stubs faces a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge for hitting and killing young and felony hit and run, charges for which her public defender says there is no evidence. Reporter we are near the front entrance of that huge power grid that was attacked one year ago and has been the focus of numerous investigations and second guessing ever since, including at a meeting today in the nations capital. There is nonstop security around the metcalf the pg e power stage ever since the attack a year ago today when someone fired about 150 rounds at the facility. As ktvu reported then, the Surveillance Video of the onslaught was one of the first immediate signs this was a sophisticated, possibly a terrorist attack. A theory still supported by members of congress and n washington d. C. Today at a meeting organized by the center for security who called the attack a wakeup call exposing the vulnerability of the nations power grid. Terrorists with the tools could knock out electricity. A grid upon which our responders rely is extremely vulnerable. Ktvus investigation at the time of the attack revealed the efficient coordinated sabotage plan. Shortly before the shooting, someone went down two separate manholes and cut different sections of an at t fiberoptic line. Those cuts knocked out 911 calls to Law Enforcement and communication that would normally be used to respond to a gunfire attack. It also reinforces the fact that we dont see the perpetrator, the person knew what they were doing. In february, pg e disclose today ktvu publicly the 86 million in security improvements including more guards, a wall to replace the chain link fence and more cameras and alarms. During saturdays sting operations agents issued 93 citations and seized 109 vehicles. They say these curbstoners typically buy low end cars from auctions or wrecking yards and do little if any mechanical reconditioning. They then lure buyers through ads on websites like craigslist.
