Her radio now brings you an encore of this morning's party line with the colonel. Good morning everybody and welcome to the party line the oldest soapbox as you know On Wednesdays we have a short show because Vincent Xavier the articulate evangelist comes into the picture 11 o'clock this morning and we exit at that time a mention is always front and center with a message for everybody beautiful day shaping up out there we're already up to 46.3 degrees this morning headed to a high of 58 with mostly sunshine today and then Tamara we will hit 62 degrees now we do have a little rain coming into the picture Thursday night 40 percent but come Friday we've got more sunshine and 47 that will cool down that's going to be noticeable at 15 degrees cooler on Friday and then tomorrow b.c. And then down to 34 on Friday night then 54 Saturday as a high 58 on Sunday so decent weather you've You can't fault the weather if you're if you're really objective about things we've got plenty of moisture in the ground we. We have mild temperatures and that's boding well for people getting their activities underway a little Christmas shopping along the way is as well. So what is on your mind here this morning now that we we say again that we don't screen calls here we don't. Have any certain agenda we don't we try to give everybody an opportunity to bring up what's on their mind although yesterday we had some complaints from people saying that they were fatigued with some of the voices that call in on the show too many frequent callers and then. There were some who one guy at least said the the show would be better for the colonel wouldn't talk all that much and take calls so we take all of that into consideration. All of that into consideration. I was noticing something here that probably is not important at all but but it's interesting visitors to the Tennessee Aquarium may be shocked play on words to learn that an electric eel named Meg Well Watson is lighting up a Christmas tree can you believe that a special system connected to Miguel's tank enables his shocks to power strands of lights on a nearby tree according to a news release make Well releases low voltage blips of electricity when he is trying to find food according to Aquarius Kimberly hurt that translates to a rapid dim blinking of the Christmas lights when he is eating or excited he admits higher voltage shocks which causes bigger flashes. I watch and has his own Twitter account where he shares tweets generated by his Sparky self courtesy of coding by Tennessee Tech University I cube center they combined electrical engineering and emerging business communications to give the Ila Voice Center Director Kevin Liska previously said in a call an aquarium statement in between with Wells tweets boasting statements like she is Am and Co Bloom a video posted to the account shows McGee Well shaking in his changes lights on the nearby tree spotter on and off the aquarium hopes a Christmas tree will spark love and appreciation for the unusual freshwater fish now maybe Remy who's listening in this morning over in Florida who is advocating solar power and wind power maybe rim it will come up with another idea that what we need to do is just get more eels out here in. Our neighborhoods and and maybe we can cut the use of of the. Power companies. Activities who knows just phone I'd bring that up I do want to mention one thing here though. One of our great advertisers one of the Colonel's favorite people is Freddie flints I'm Freddie vans and. And that this morning Crystal martinis Martin is our Martin as I guess has a story. And she works I think for one of the t.v. Stations Ok in the bleep but she's got a really interesting article on Fred Van Zandt and I want to read this and give her credit and I'm not. I'm not pirating her story here and you can check this out but. Bridge said I'm 94 years old and I've never seen a year like this in northwest Arkansas Van Zandt's the owner of Van Zant fruit farm and as has been since 49 he grows fruits like Concord grapes apples and pumpkins but peaches are his cash crop since that day we had only lost about 6 or 7 peach crops completely but the last 2 years it's been quite different Van Zandt said this year Van Zandt says he's had to put up a fight with Mother Nature Ordinarily you could do a lot of planning Euler just wasn't a lot of planning as your Van Zant said that's because of all the rain we've seen so far in 2019 the total rainfall collected great field in Fayetteville used nearly $64.00 inches making it the 5th West year so far now in the river valley the total rainfall collected at Fort Smith regional is a little over 66 and a half inches making it the 3rd wettest year so far drenching Van Zandt's farm washing out his herbicides if you're using a contact spray and you spray it in 30 minutes it rains you just threw out a lot of money Van Zandt's it even delaying the start to his pumpkin patch we grew quite a few pumpkins in a weed patch it turned out Ok but it could have been better if it hadn't rained so much then sense that while the rain did cause a couple of headaches for Van Zandt's it did bring some good we did lose some of our peaches but we've had a nice apple crop and that said the 94 year old Navy veteran says it was a year of learning it's been a dog fight but it turned out better than you might have Imagine finding the right time to harvest his produce because as he says you can't raise fruit in a swamp so way to go Freddie Flint Freddie Van Zandt. And of course we we cherish his. Relationship with the radio station he's been one of our advertisers for many many years. I've got some other things here this morning that maybe we can address a little later for example the subject of improper payments and this is out by the House of House budget Republicans Steve Womack as you know he's the ranking member of that committee and has some interesting things on things that the federal government spent on improper payments and that's going to catch your imagination but the phones are ringing here this morning and I lov that call ahead yesterday Colonel and take calls and limit the the. Conversation. Of your own let's go to the local line 1st off here this morning this is party line Good morning good morning Carol thank you for taking my call yes sir yes sir I am wondering I've been thinking I wonder if we could start one of them. Well they call them Go Fund Me and camps hero buddy over Chancery and so one happy resigned boy I feel sorry for his wife and kids having to live in the same house with him and I think got anything but I'm just thankful I've got a roof over my head and some tea and you know you could be welcome in one of those people over there in El Reno Oklahoma I feel sorry for them today but sure Anyway I'll get off fairly soon Colonel thank you thank you well you know we try to be charitable here to everybody on this program and I'm not going to be like the president who who's says things and some of you trumpeters out there are saying here he goes again Kerry goes again. You know they're There's comments little side comments that you didn't make that don't help matters you know I told you one time I was on in the office of the president of Arkansas Tech one time when I was a high school senior and they had offered me a scholarship and I had it was a one year scholarship all expense for one year and I and I thought why should I do this for one year because my folks don't have the money to keep me in school and it's not going to be good to go one year and then drop out so I go over to the president's office to explain that to and on his desk he had a Columbus. Plastic deal with an inscription on it that had a kind of a test that you ought to say to yourself and before you make a statement These are some of the ramifications is it true in other words you don't want to make statements that are not true. Is it necessary to to say what you need to say because a lot of times you've got some some factoids in your mind that are not not really necessary to express and another point was. Is it going to be beneficial to everybody. And I guess we all would be better off if we would apply that I believe that was a Kiwanis. Test it could have been a rotary I'm not sure that's what that was in 1951952 early early in 52. So I don't remember exactly but. But a lot of times people say things that are unnecessary for example yesterday the president was talking to Mr McCraw on President of France or whatever his job is he's the head guy in France and somehow he said McCraw on do you want some some nice ISIS fighters I can supply those to you now what I'm telling you and this is the Colonel's opinion and some of you folks out there maybe think this is harsh but I'm just saying that that is not necessary for the president of our country to be offering ISIS fighters to a foreign government now some of the Trump supporters may think that this is neat that this is funny that this is a way to go Donald but but I'm just saying that if it's unnecessary and it does not help matters Macross said to him let's be serious that was his reply let's be serious about this. So there you go and again I say that too in reference to the comments about the guy and gentry I've said before I'm puzzled about the guy because I really cannot ascertain exactly what he wants and I know some things that he doesn't like he doesn't like the taxation that we put on people to fund our public schools he doesn't like that and I'm sure that there's other many other things he doesn't like but you know all of us probably have issues with things that surround us on an everyday basis you know lots of and lots of things that we were disk in disagreement with but this guy is is pretty firmly entrenched and he probably will call this radio station they call this program and I say again to him I don't know how I would like for him to describe the world as he would like to have it in other words we know how his attitude about the public education system he wants will smaller government which is a cliche that we all express but again what kind of a country does he envisioned if he could get his way you know and I think that would be appropriate to say that and I don't think that that is all that critical and demeaning to him to to say those things I'm puzzled by by his attitude but obviously this last caller. Has picked up on the idea that that he's not too pleased over there let's go to another call this is party line Good morning good morning term and speaking of the guy he kept me all right I'm wondering there's a narrative out in the world that the millennial are all bunched Northlake where there was triggered I'm certain Weiner name about some of the old timers because when I call in I'm not calling in to rag about the government I'm calling in because I have kids you know I have kids that I don't want on to them. What you and your generation has passed on to them so different to the guy from yesterday you know doesn't want to hear me talking then call him you know I mean it's a free country it's a free wine call and if you want to call in and talk about puppy dogs and kitty cats and pretty flowers then go for it I mean look life is beautiful life is incredible what I've done for on this show is that you know who your generation who has created $23.00 trillion dollars in. Your generation who has taken the public school system from one of the I mean India of the world to where you know you see what's going on out there even if you can't see it I called I can't I can't bring it any clearer to you kids are graduating from high school and they're dumber than ever it's a fact they have to go to college to learn high school math they're talking about all kinds of sexual deviancy in the public schools I mean are they doing it in Gentry I don't know I'm not saying everybody but it is going on in our country and this is the world that your generation has either created by your voting or you allowed it by whatever that you've done and and so that's why I'm calling and I'm calling in because life is incredible freedom is incredible it's an incredible blessing and when you guys with your government solutions come in you know and again the premise for every government solution that you guys have is well if we don't have a public school then some kids won't get educated guess what's happening you're costing us billions of dollars costing a whole bunch of people a lot of money and a whole bunch of kids aren't getting educated anyway it's the same thing you know we have to have welfare because kids will starve we have kids starving all over the country with the government program and what's going to happen you know you you you want to you want to take over the school that's run like the military but the military is a national program you want to trying to on the state you're trying to compare military pay. Across the entire country to Arkansas so what's going to happen and you know Westville Oklahoma teachers are going to be like doing why would I possibly teach in what's still because it's not nationalized it's just statewide so I'm just going to go over to I guess Siloam Springs and make more money than I wouldn't want you can it's just this constant push on the side of your generation I'm picking on you today like the old guys are calling and ragged on me but I mean you know again and I'll say this my last thing I promise I've called in and I've said things that are being wrong with our government and I think that and I beg people to call in and tell me what is so great about our government what is going on that is so successful and so great I mean we're $23.00 trillion dollars in debt all of you old timers and voted so that my kids will have to pay for your retirement while all the while you've taken every bit of money that you've pumped and you spent it on yourself you've got your own money he spent it on yourself and now my kids are going to have to pay for what you think you deserve and tell me where I'm wrong and please tell me where I'm wrong tell me where the government's right that's the day I'm going to quit calling up is when you guys begging for more government have a good day all right thinking well we're not suggesting that you ought to quit calling at all but I am going to say to you that you have a tendency to. Exaggerate some of the things that you quote me in saying for example I am not interested in militarizing the schools. Let me let me tell you the the schools and education is has a multitude of parks multitude of parks pay is only one of those parts not may be an important part for sure but when I asked when I talked about handling the pay of teachers similarly to the way we pay military people and and again I can explain this is over simple simplification but what that means is. You're you get the same pay with the same rank and longevity regardless of where you are it's it's not of variable thing in other words. A private or a sergeant or a lieutenant colonel or whatever gets the same pay based on him what the rank and their experience longevity. And when I said that we ought to handle schoolteachers pay because right now we've got a wide variation in the pay of school teachers we've got people starting in northwest Arkansas at a pace a rate of almost 50 $1000.00 for a bachelor's degree no experience. Just starting out and other parts of the state the same situation exists for a teacher who's getting 30000 or more that's a huge difference that's all I'm saying but just because you think that we ought to . That I'm saying that we ought to handle pay similarly so that teachers teaching the same subject with the same experience level. Are paid uniformly the same doesn't mean that you want to militarize the schools so that's an exaggeration let me take a time out here and I'll come back and I will also line up with this caller from gentry and tell you that the government has has a lot of things wrong that needs to be corrected. Sent out to catfish Johnson 1st off this morning they will be opening in about 35 minutes out on Hudson road and serving Arkansas grown farm raised catfish come on out or order the Colonel's choice you'll be pleased with that catfish dinner bowl of pinto beans it's just some coals lawn hushpuppies with that and that's a nice light meal a drink like a soft drink or a cup of coffee will round that out you can get the full a sandwich. How much does the federal government spend on improper payments the extent of government wide payment errors is higher than most think according to g.a.o. Improper payments spanned the entire federal government $90.00 government programs across $21.00 agencies these payments totaled a stunning $151000000000.00 in fiscal year f y 2018 up from $14041000000000.00 in 2017 to put that in perspective this is equivalent to more than double what the federal to the federal government spent on the Department of Education the same year. Improper Payments have steadily increased over time and have more than quadrupled since fiscal year 2003 when it was $35000000.00 a 1000000000 when agencies 1st began estimating them in f y 2018 g o e r g a o found 16 programs and activities that had improper payments of more than $1000000000.00 per year and 20 programs and activities with improper payment rates of 10 percent or greater of their total budgets out of the federal out of all the federal improper payments approximately 75 percent fall within 3 programs Medicare Medicaid and the Earned Income Tax Credit g.a.o. G.a.o. Found that insufficient documentation comprised a majority of Medicare and Medicaid fee for service improper payments 64 percent for example for Medicare and 57 percent for Medicaid How has the federal government addressed improper payments since 2002 Congress has passed several measures to address improper payments but tangible progress remains elusive for example the improper payments elimination and Recovery Act of 2010 required improvements to stop improper payment estimation procedures and establish recovery audit programs with the purpose of recapturing over payments other attempts have been made to reverse the pay and chase model utilized by agencies across the federal government is modeled prioritizes getting checks out the door quickly and determining after the fact whether payments were made an error the result is a laborious and often costly process to attempt to recruit these already spent payments often with little success. Solutions to reduce improper payments while there is not an easy one size fits all solution to reducing improper payments g.a.o. Has concluded that the best way to address them is to establish best practices and procedures at the programatic level to prevent them from occurring in the 1st place to date g.a.o. Has made numerous agency specific recommendations to him to reduce improper payments many of which have not been implemented to decrease such irresponsible spending it is critical that congressional authorizing committees use their oversight authority to hold their respective departments and agencies accountable for chronic improper payment and create incentives for better management of government resources so just suffice it to say that when we are having a government that totaled $151000000000.00 in fiscal year 2018 for improper payments and most of that is in Medicare Medicaid and the earned income tax. Deal hey that's staggering $151000000000.00 of improper payments. But still let's get some more callers on the air this is the party line Good morning. Yes what a little bit to you thank you well I didn't quite get what you said your phone garbles a little bit early go to nearly no Yakin now I said that probably inside of the government might be just a little bit. But I'm sure I'm sure it doesn't. I'm not going to let you know that is just one of those over I. Read an article 'd yesterday. From the. Article was written by. I don't know if it's a reporter or not but it was for fair taxation and. What grabbed me about this is in the article itself and that tens of millions are currently being spent but. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been taken from Social Security to pay for the Iraq war on Iraq $2.00 and Afghanistan and we're still draining tens of millions of dollars from Social Security for the getting wars we're involved in them. And. That maybe if this article is true and I have no reason to doubt it but if this article is true how on earth can any politician up there any senator any congressman have the audacity to stand before the American people and say we've got some school security that. Coming I don't understand people will sit there and listen to Republicans say we're going to save Social Security are we going to say so also. And all this time they're just drowning in the money out of it to pay for the wars. Terry industrial complex and all the other junk that they spend it on but I would like I would like to hear clear explanation on why it is necessary to. Secure the. Pace. That's it's not Congressman can give me a clear message to the nation about that. Never say another word about it are in that debt is is the most out who really gives our Nikolayev Reagan average some outrageous money but that's the worst on record in the last 5 months let me ask you this so who wrote that article and where did you read that I've read the article online and it's citizens Professor taxation is one of those and like I said I don't know if that's true but I would like we have a congressman that can tell us if it's true or somebody we can tell that would tell us that it's true but I wouldn't That is no one is atrocious coming out of trying to. Get this program I would love to hear a yes or no is it true or is it not true or if it's not true and pretty good but every every senior citizen out here or to be outraged if it is true and I'm sure I'm not only person that's read their citizens for fair taxation is there on state space and they are all over the place they're all recognize group so I'm I'm I'm just and taking some citizens for fair taxation that the article is doing good about. I'm not saying that it is and I'm saying it is. Boring I politicians need. Directing it that's that's not all All right well let's not preach it that I'm I'm with you I don't know if that's true you can read most about anything that's that some of these organizations come up with They've got their talking points and in many cases they are somewhat elusive with with the truth is what I'm saying and it it all you can also the old saying you can use statistics to prove just about anything that may apply here I guarantee you that there's not any congressman that is sitting up there in Washington d.c. Knowingly approving the destruction of Social Security so that's that's one thing I'm going to defend the Congress on that it could be that there have been some deviations here for example we had we had some money authorized for the Defense Department that the president has siphoned off to build a wall now a lot of people will say that's not. That was not intended it was not appropriated to build the wall and this sort of thing but you can hear most most anything yesterday I sat there and watched the president with an extended long winded news conference in which he says that this impeachment thing is a hoax that it's a witch hunt that there's no evidence whatsoever that he's done anything wrong and yet he's fixin to get his rear end impeached because there's a laundry list of things that other people think that he did wrong. You get you get facts and you get alternate facts but you know it's just a amazing to me that we can't seem to get. An agreement between more and more people as to as to whether something is wrong or right it just seems to me now let me ask a question. Of all the things that the president does what what concerns you the most Now you may be a trump supporter you may tilt back your maggot hat this morning and say well I'm not concerned about anything that he does what is the thing that is your most far reaching concern about what is going on in this in this day in time maybe maybe you feel like the Democrats are out in left field in that they are doing a dirty deed for this country doing what they're doing. Maybe there are some things that the president has done that concerns you I know we I certainly have my my thought on on what is the most shall we say strategic problem that that is likely to come out of what's going on but we'll take we'll do that here in just a couple minutes. Electricity lately super storms and high wind not to mention the ice storms that will come in our upcoming winter why do without any more when you can have an all home or partial home Generac generator installed by but Anderson home services keep your family warm and safe Don't be left cold and in the dark one day install is all it takes no money down and great low monthly payments for qualified customers so-called But Anderson Homes services heating cooling electric and plumbing services 855 go call Bud or on the web at Go call Bud dot com And remember for 79 dollars you get your choice of a furnace or air conditioner tune up and safety inspection were their premier dealer Dyken air intelligence and right off the bat without further ado we will head to Castro Missouri to check in with our favorite automobile dealership up there and that's of course Daryn Jacobs and the folks at Les Jacobs for their in the How are you this morning good morning Colonel I'm great are you sir are doing all right and I was just telling our listeners here that I want to get the latest on what's going on you know we're getting into the kind of the Christmas spirit here and I know that. It's that permeates the the atmosphere there at your place. Speaking of Christmas spirit public service announcement the Christmas parade it's always on the 1st Saturday of December it's been switched over to Sunday at 4 because our cash for Wildcats will be playing. Football at state they made it to the state finals so this is a big weekend for Jeff Lloyd is and I'll tell you what they're taking on Odessa Odessa Missouri used to call on that town when I was working at Higgins Ville back many many moons ago and. They didn't have a great football team back then but apparently they do today in and they are Wildcats I think will be up to the challenge though we sure hope so we enjoy that what happened on Saturday they take a team that 10 normally scored 3040 points a game and help them to 0 big deal good defense very very good well let's bring our listeners up to date on some opportunities in cars and trucks. Christmas presents or post Thanksgiving present about a 6 Ford Mustang convertible local trade it's black with silver stripes down the top of it it is a rag top for $9500.00 I get a 15 for Taurus perfectly lovely car ruby red with a tan interior remote engine start on climate control keyless entry low miles 14980. 84023987 Chevy h.h. Our 4990 I've got cars for everybody and for every person out there right now I tell you what you're unloaded there with the opportunities and of course you've got a great finance guy that will help people with their financing package and you've got a wonderful parts department there you've got a great service shop and body shop and while this is the place to go we just tell our listeners that they need to head up to Les Jacobs for that car truck. This time of year we wish everybody a happy holiday season in America so they're in the thanks for the visit this morning in our best to you have a have a great December. And remember folks the colonel drives a less Jacobs car and soul should you you know I posed the question a few moments ago what is the thing that has happened that most concerns you and I'll I'll give you my concern here and maybe some of you would agree or disagree with that you maybe have some other concerns I'm not all that. Uptight about his phone call to. Ukraine although I do think that that was improper in this sort of thing but the overall fear that I have the biggest concern I have is the blockage of these subpoenas in other words we have. A democracy in this country whereby we've got equal branches of government and it to me when one branch of government refuses to honor the lawful request of other parts of the government who are charged with oversight and this sort of thing and just actually conducts business in an authoritarian view. You you run the risk of basically moving toward an authoritarian type of government rather than having a democracy where we've got checks and balances now that is the Colonel's biggest concern and what we have here is we've got a president who has repeatedly told his people the attorney general the chief of staff the other folks don't respond to these subpoenas these are lawful subpoenas where our government has under the Constitution the authority to have these subpoenas and you know the sad thing about it is that if you are innocent why is there a reluctance to to show that innocence by by testifying in this sort of thing it just defies explanation we have a story this morning in the paper where. The headline is congress can see Trump's banking files according to the court federal appeals court in New York ruled yesterday that Congress can see President Donald Trump banking records for investigation of the possible foreign influence in the u.s. Policies and yet there's going to be an appeal of that. Of an appeals court ruling that will go to the Supreme Court and we're going to have the Supreme Court weighing in on whether or not that DOJ a bank records will be released to the Congress when it certainly is within their purview in oversight to get these figures and again what is so hard to understand is that we're talking about taxes and we're talking about a an individual who promised during the campaign and even after that he was going to release his income tax returns promised that to the American public over and over again and yet we're we're involved in a situation that may go to the Supreme Court because there's an attempt made to not release those records that defies explanation as Curt Gowdy said one time if you're innocent act like it and isn't act like it. Yes girl your answer what disturbs us most in this is to get what you're saying any of this put it all on the one ball of wax here it's a culture we live in today except corruption I'm going to get Medicare. I've got a private organization but they have to go by Medicare rules. That's my insurance but they get messages from the medicare medicaid ministration constantly turning in. If you find corruption if you find Miss Missed things going along and the reason that there I don't do it and other people don't do it we feel we get retaliated and that goes from the top down to the pharmacies and this has to do with our culture has to do with the drugs that we got the casinos. You when you take incentives you're going to take the Mafia in here no matter what you say about it and it's the whole culture that we live in we just accept this and the reason we do it is because we're afraid or retaliations and that's exactly why the Republicans which you have said you sail on this issue of how the president that they won't they'll stand with him a 100 percent because they're afraid of retaliation that they'll get it back when they have to run that his supporters are going to be get him and they'll take him right now and as far as the pair they the people that do business in I've talked to him and been going and I am not going to stop buying stuff in bin County because I have different political views or something that I don't like what they're doing but I've been. Agencies before which they have played constantly Fox News at a time and I ask why do they play Fox News and they say because the people who come in here they say they say they will not buy products for if they don't like it and so we just put it on to let it go and that's the bottom truth that's going on everybody's very of retaliation I talk back as much as I can to. To the to the pharmacies pass it on back to the big companies what they're doing wrong what they're charging and most of this stuff that these big drug companies these distributors have been in business and I've tracked it on back down because of head problems without it dissolves and the reason is because that they mark the prices up. It's not that it's the big distributors that mark the prices up it's not the the drug companies that make the product that is for the ideas like acid reducers and other things like this they have they marked those things things up and then those are the things that fail the most. And that's the bottom line with Medicare Medicaid if you're on a satisfied with it then report any discrepancies that you see and people I don't feel do it because I do thank you lot are think it well thank you doctor I am you know this one of these guys it's not all that familiar with any of the irregularities going on I you know I have Medicare but like I say the only time I've been to the doctor probably in the last 5 years is to get my blood pressure medicine re scription renewed and personally I don't think I want to have to go I go in and pay 150 bucks to do that I believe that I ought to be able to call in and say look at seems to be working good. Renew my prescription but you know we have mechanisms in place right now where certain entities benefit from from the rules but again. You know that my question was What is there a concern out there on your part and to what is going on in the world and what you feel like. Is the most potentially dangerous thing and and as I said my concern big basically is the defiance of the administration in answering subpoenas because that's a lawful action there by the Congress and even if if you feel like that they're partisan with the with what they're doing. At least acknowledge the fact that under our form of government that that the Congress has the oversight opportunities to carry Quest. Subpoenas and you need to adhere to that or else face a contempt or obstruction charge and and that's what I think is a danger to the country let's catch another call on the local on the watch line this is party line Good morning. Hello there Ok we're not getting audited and I believe we have a cut off there now if you're listening on the internet please understand that there's a delay and what you say and what you hear that's confusing and sometimes when we answer the phone somebody is not hearing that right away and they they hang up or don't say anything.
