causing an outage. it affected nearly 27,000 customers mostly in aurora and east denver, still no word yet how the raccoon got into this substation. it may seem unusual for an animal to cause a power outage, it happens more often than you'd think. >> animal caused outages are one of our top four causes of outages in the state of colorado, so it's not uncommon for it to happen. >> what is, however, unusual is the outage was so wi power to just a couple of customers. if you tried but failed to date on access, you're not alone. that's because an internet company is being hit by cyber attacks. outages soon spread from the northeastern united states into the midwest. a security expert tell the associated press the attacks appear to be someone trying to probe for weaknesses of internet iceland. anastasiya bolton joins us 10-year-old aislinn. anastasiya bolton joins us now. >> reporter: the family hired their nurse from an agency in may to care for their daughter aislinn who has a rare condition called by changes in the grin1 gene which has limited her cognitive ability to that of a 6-month-old. the family said they interviewed, trained the nurse for two weeks and for weeks after followed up. they continued working with her to make sure that their daughter's needs were met. long before they noticed bruises on aislinn. what they saw on the video cameras they'd installed disturbed them, rough treatment on the changing table, a hit and the nurse then jerks aislinn's hair when she's in the wheelchair. prosecutors in douglas county charged vonnida with assault of an at risk victim a felony. aislinn's parents say they want vonnida not to ever be a nurse again. >> not one of them is acceptablee. child regardless of their disability or lack of disability. that's not care in any sense of the word. she has a greater responsibility. she's trained. she's a professional in this field. there's no way you can define any of that as care. >> vonnida wouldn't talk to us. her punishment in our legal system has not been decided yet. she's back in court monday. her nursing license has been suspended and could be revoked after a hearing this spring. we'll hear more from and incites a lot of emotions from a lot of people. thank you. not that most folks are undecided at this point, but hillary clinton won the third and final debate of the election season by a margin of nine points according to the latest nbc poll online today. 46% of those who watched the debate said clinton won. 37% said trump won. an amazingly large 17% said neither won. the poll also looked at whether voters would accept the election as legitimate if their candidate loses. 53% of the republicans said they would probably accept the results while 82% of democrats said they would probably accept the outcome. the colorado department of emissions from the suncor refinery a week ago today did not create a public health concern. that determination came after air quality modeling of last friday's mishap. health officials say suncor has returned to full operations and the plant is in compliance with emissions limits. last week a power failure caused an emergency shutdown at the refinery. the billowing orange yellow smoke was sulfur dioxide and the release was part of refinery shutdown procedure. roads were closed a few hours. the plant resumed operations on sunday. cdot said a highway in western colorado reopened after crews cleared away more than 100 tons of debris from a rockslide wednesday morning. colorado 133 reopened north of paonia this afternoon. about 1,001 -- an average of about 1,100 people use that road each day between hitch hodgkin's and glenwood springs -- hodgkin's and glenwood springs. this cost $417 million to build, but it's nearly 60 million bucks less than the original cost estimates. the plant will undergo months of testing before it officially ranching and conservation haven't always gone happened in hand. however 9news reporter maya all sharing the same space with other more wild creature. >> we have an amazing raptor population through here. >> reporter: dan laurens and adrian larue are the rancher here. >> we see a lot of migratory they're called. i call the audubon society and ask what they are. >> reporter: they've partnered with audubon rockies on a pilot program called the conservation ranching initiative. it looks to work with ranchers on practices that make their lands more welcoming to grassland birds whether they are nesting or migrating. >> these are the birds that exist here and these are the habitat requirements of these birds. so how can we use the cattle to know, x, y and z species? >> reporter: grassland birds in particular have taken a hit over the decades as development moves into their habitat. >> if you look at the overall guild of grassland birds, they've really declined by about 80% and that is due in part to a lot of overdevelopment. >> reporter: by working with ranchers on a voluntary basis audubon rockies hopes to keep that, open and give ranchers the preservation credit they've earned. >> it's cool to figure out how to work with it rather than have it be agriculture or conservation, that you can have them together. >> reporter: sharing the same land and sky. maya rodriguez, 9news. >> audubon rockies is also trying out this program in wyoming. they are creating a label that ranchers would be able to use in marketing their products to show that they're helping to maintain more bird has been at habitat. >> it's certainly beautiful out there. just in time for the weekend it is opening day for colorado ski season. >> folks are excited about that. also ahead a pediatricians group offers a new take on how much time your kid should be spending in front of video began making snow october 3rd. it has an 18-inch base. loveland ski area has been making snow. they expect to kick off their season sometime next week. last year both those two resorts opened first on october 29th. the american academy of pediatrics put out new recommendations for the amount of screen time that is acceptable for children broken down into different for children younger than 18 months no screen time is recommended. for kids ages 2 to 5 they recommend one hour of high quality screen time per day. for older kids and teen-agers parents should discuss limits and reevaluate those on a regular basis. other specific guidelines include no screen time an hour before bedtime. i'm guilty of violating that one. families should designate device free times like during homework or mealtime and internet safety. the key is to make sure kids have plenty of offline time to develop their social skills, healthy eating habits and get enough sleep and parents are also being told to be media mentors teaching their kids how to navigate the internet effectively and safely. students at south high school received a special visitor, the youngest person to ever win the nobel peace prize, malala yousafzai. as students gave her a heroes welcome, malala fought the taliban as it banned girls from going to school. she refused to give up even after masked gunmen boarded her school bus and shot her in the face. >> and the terrorists tried all their best they could do and they still have not stopped me. so it means that i am on the right path. >> after the assembly malala met with rifle, grand junction 68, same in gunnison. the airport 74, sunshine with winds out of the east about 13 miles per hour. makes it feel comfortable outside. right now in the backyard we're at 75 degrees, this weekend just fantastic. so far so good. we're nice and dry on hd doppler 9. i'll take you to the pacific northwest where once again they're watching a series of storms starting to push in yet again, more rain for the seattle area and a little light snowfall across the cascades. a good chunk of the midsection of the country, nothing going on. high pressure taking over, but across the northeast a cold front is pushing in bringing them heavy rains. what will be interesting abou storm it will scoop in some of that cold canadian air, drop it back down into the northeast and potentially this weekend they could be looking at a little bit of snowfall. so that's their storm system. high pressure around here with that one quick one that's just pushing in, sliding just to our north, but again warm and dry for not only colorado for the next couple days, but our neighboring states as well. tonight we're down to about 41, clear and quiet, the winds picking up from time to time 7:16, 30s and 40s in denver and 22 in alamosa. a couple high level clouds in the mountains the rest of the night. tomorrow morning plenty of sunshine. by 5 p.m. what you see is what you get. i know, kind of boring, nothing going on. we will watch for high fire danger in parts of wyoming, south dakota into nebraska tomorrow afternoon, some gusty winds out there. they haven't seen much precipitation. so relative humidity values between 5 to 15% once again meaning we, too will be watching for high fire danger this weekend. 81 degrees saturday afternoon as we wind down the month of october, just wild. we'll be in the low 80s across eastern colorado, about 85 in la lamar -- lamar and springfield, 60s in frisco and aspen, mid-70s in evergreen, bailey, idaho springs and up in same, fantastic kind of weather. we stay in the 70s this weekend. sunday next week a brief little system pushes in monday night into tuesday, maybe a couple sprinkles if we're lucky tuesday morning and that
