This is a special captioning sponsored by cbs this is the cbs evening news with scott pelley. Reporting tonight from the Democratic National convention in philadelphia. Pelley and theres breaking news here tonight, and not the kind that Hillary Clinton wants. A new email scandal. This time at the Democratic National committee. And it has cost the chairman of the dnc her job. Florida congresswoman Debbie Wasserman schultz announced that she is stepping down at the end of this convention. Nancy cordes begins our coverage. Nancy . Reporter scott, Wasserman Schultz was already a lightning rod for Bernie Sanders supporters even before these hacked emails were made public. And so now with democratic officials desperate to bring those officials into the fold and union fie the party in advance of the convention, the decision was made that she had to go. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Hello, south florida reporter Wasserman Schultz announced her resignation just one day after introducing clinton and her new running mate in miami. In a statement this afternoon, she said the best way for me to accomplish these goals is to step down as party chair at the end of the convention. A handful of the 20,000 hacked emails showed her aides musing about how to blunt Bernie Sanders momentum earlier this year. In one, the dncs chief Financial Officer wrote, for kentucky and West Virginia can we get someone to ask his belief . Does he believe in a god. He had skated on saying he has a juicish heritage. I think i read he is an atheist. Nobody has apologized to me. Reporter sanders long argued that the dnc which was supposed to be neutral in the primaries had its thumb on the scale for clinton. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, i should should not be chair of the dnc. And i think these emails reiterate that reason why she should not be chair. Reporter scott pelley asked clinton about the controversy in her first joint interview with her running mate tim kaine airing tonight on 60 minutes. Did you know anything about any of that . No, i didnt know anything about it. And i havent read any of those. But i am adamantly opposed to anyone bringing religeon into our political process. I mean the constitution says no religious tests so that is just absolutely wrong and unacceptable. Reporter senator kaine spent his sundays attending church in richmond and with his son nat, a marine who deploys to romania tomorrow. We needed some prayers today and got some prayers. Reporter clinton selected kaine out of about two dozen containedders and he made it clear in miami yesterday. That he intends to be her biggest advocate. Hillary clinton, she doesnt insult people, she listens to them. What a novel concept, right. Reporter we learned this afternoon that former new york mayor Michael Bloomberg who considered his owned by for the presidency will actually endorse clinton here at the dnc on wednesday. And tonight, scott, Bernie Sanders says that Debbie Wasserman schultz made the right decision by stepping down. He says he is still fully behind Hillary Clinton. And in fact, intends to deliver a stem winder here at the convention on night one tomorrow night. Pelley nancy cordes with us here in philadelphia. Nancy, thank you. We asked Hillary Clinton about those incriminating party emails. Just hours after she chose Virginia Governor tim canee, i should say virginia senator tim kaine as her running mate. They sat down with us for their first interyou have for tonights 60 minutes. In your view, any effort in the dnc to favor one candidate or another would have been improper . Again, i dont have i dont have any information about this. And so i cant answer specifically. We ran our campaign. We ran hard. We worked to have as many successes as possible. Im very proud that we got more votes than anybody else running, including donald trump. And i am very grateful for the campaign that senator sanders ran, because we ran a Campaign Based on issues, not insults. So i cant speak to what people who were not working for me, who were saying whatever they were saying. I cant speak to that. I can only speak to my campaign. I was a dnc chair. So you know, during the first obama term, you are not going to find anybody at the dnc or the rnc or any Political Organization who is a complete agnostic who doesnt have an opinion about a candidate. Those of white house are kind in its realm have opinions about people. But i dont see an effort to put a thumb on the scale to tip this one way or the other. I think the vigorous nature of the champagne and the positive nature of the campaign is proof that these are Public Servants who were in it for the right reason. And i think we will be unified going forward. Pelley madame secretary, did you hear the Republican Convention chanting lock her up. Well, i didnt hear it because i wasnt watching. But i certainly heard about it, yes. Did you feel threaterned by that . No, i felt sad. I felt very sad, scott. I mean, i dont know what their convention was about, other than criticizing me. I seem to be the only union fying theme union fying theme that they had. There there was no positive agenda. It was very dark, di vicive campaign. And the people who were speaking were painting a picture of our country that i did not recognize. You know, negative, scapegoating, fear, bigotry, smeers. I just was so i was sadenned by it. Pelley well have more of our interview with tim kaine and Hillary Clinton tonight on 60 minutes. President obama is down to his last six months in office. And he talked about the race with john dikerson on todays face the nation. In 2008 a lot of your supporters said, look at the way he ran his campaign. If he runs the presidency like his campaign, hes going to be in good shape. Why isnt that true for done all trump who has run a pretty Remarkable Campaign beating 16 other politicians. In 2008 i dont think they were referring merely to the fact that i had won. We were really really organized. We had a great culture that there wasnt a whiff of scandal to how we approached getting elected. We told the truth. I do think that the body of work of a person matters. And i would say that i generally believe that there has never been a candidate better prepared for the presidency than Hillary Clinton. Not eisenhower, not George Herbert walker bush . Well, i said more prepared. I didnt say that they were chopped liver. But the skill sets that hillary has are similar to many of the skill sets that they had. She knows her stuff. And more than anything, that is what is ultimately required to do a good job in this office. Reporter president obama with john dikerson. Well, dont expect Republican Donald Trump to keep quiet during the democratic convention. Hes already talking to cbs news and heres Major Garrett. Reporter with donald trump and allies counterprogramming the democratic convention, ted koppel with cbs sunday morning asked trump what he was thinking when he began this campaign. I have a sense that back on june 16th, what donald trump was thinking was, you know something, i might win a primary or two. I might win the caucus or two. But you know, the worst thing that is going to happen is the brand is going to be improved. Ill be better more famous than today. You never thought you would be sitting here on this day as the nominee of the republican party. I think about it myself, you know. I think i must have, ted. Because i do like the win. And i believe that if i didnt think i was going to win, i wouldnt have done it. So somewhere deep down in the mind, i must have said, im going to win. Reporter trump won the nomination and remains competitive with Hillary Clinton despite scel tal Campaign Staff and uneven Gop Convention and Prominent Party holdouts. Reporter what about the elders, the party elders who didnt show up, the romney, the bushes, the kasichs . Well, look, they are all people i beat, for the most part. I helped mitt romney but i think i talked him out of running in this race. He lost a race that he should have won. He should have easily beaten a very badly damaged president. And i was very critical of him. That is why he came out against me. Jeb bush, obviously i beat him very badly. Kasich i beat him very badly. Kasich was beaten so badly, its hard for people to recover. Reporter trump denied the Gop Convention exaggerated the threat of crime at home or terrorism abroad. I thought it was very optimistic. To me it was an optimistic speech. Reporter what makes it optimistic. Because were going to solve the problems. Were going to solve the problems. Reporter trump also denied he views the presidency as an allpowerful tool of government action. Though his acceptance speech indicated otherwise. Scott, trump and those close to him refuse to comment on the rampant speculation that recently deposed fox news chairman roger ailes will become a trump advisor or take over the campaign entirely. Pelley Major Garrett on our philadelphia political team, major, thank you. Another member of the team is anthony salvanto. Hes our director of elections. Anthony, you have been looking at our polls in the battleground states. And i wonder, did Trumps Convention change the dynamics of the race . He got a small uptick in support, scott. Maybe adding two points across the key swing states, that edges him just ahead of Hillary Clinton. Her support held steady. But what is really telling is where this change came from. Trump threw in a few conservatives who had been undecided before the convention. But virtually no one switched his or her votes from clinton to trump. And that illustrates not just how tight this race is, but also how partisan it is. Pelley doesnt look like a Big Convention bounce. What did the voters tell you that they felt as they watched trumps speech on thursday . Republicans saw this very differently from everyone else, scott. They called trumps speech hopeful. They said they felt enthusiastic. But independents and democrats were more likely to call it pessimism. In fact, democrats even said it made them feel scared. So trump rallied his base. But the data show he hasnt yet reached too far to voters beyond it. Pelley and the democrats, are they happy with kim kaine . There is indications that they are satisfied. But kaine is largely unknown so that sets up this week as a key chance for him to introduce himself to democrats. But we also asked about other possible picks that clinton might have made like Elizabeth Warren and her name was met with much more enthusiasm, particularly among Bernie Sanders voters. So it looks like Hillary Clinton still has some work to do satisfying those progressive voters if she is going to union fie the party at this convention. Pelley anthony salvanto, our direction of director of elections. Cbs news prime Time Convention coverage begins tomorrow at 10 00 eastern time, 9 00 central. Thats 07 clock in the west. Ill be joined by norah odonnell, charlie rose, gayle king and john dikerson. In another breaking story tontd, explosive wildfires are burning in the west, includek two large fires in california, earn flamed by triple digit heat and draughtdry brush. What forecasters call a heat dome is smotterring much of the nation and heres mireya villarreal. Reporter fire crews struggled to stop the fastmoving fire from gutting more than a dozen homes. For three days more than 1600 firefighters have been battling the blaze in temperatures as high as 110 degrees. That fire came through like a freight train. Reporter l. A. County fire chief john trip. All the experiences we have seen with fire, that is all out the window. You got to look at the four major fires weve had in this county in six weeks. We have seen fires explode all over this county. So that ready, set, go program is not worked, foarks. Its real. The fire was right here, gigantic flames and houses where circled completely. Reporter steve and derek own 650 acres in the affected area. Flames destroyed several structures used in dozens of hollywood films and tv shows like the gambler and knight rider. At some point you know you are defeated and you have to step back and save what you can. We fought as best as we could. Helicopters were dropping. And water and everybody was out there doing their best to save it. Reporter like california, much of the nation is dealing with overwhelming heat, from chicago to philadelphia, a sweltering heat wave has temperatures lingering well over 100 degrees. Today Race Organizers in new york altered their course because of the extreme heat. The triatheletes found the fastest way to find relief was in the hudson river. Temperatures here in california are a bit cooler than they have been in the last few days. Homeowners were expected to come back home. But an unexpected shift in the wind has picked up the flames that you see right behind me, scott, forcing a lot of these officials to make sure those evacuation orders stay in place. Pelley mireya villarreal, thanks. Coming up next on this special edition of the cbs weekend news, were others involved in the mass shooting in munich . And russias olympic team learns if it will be banned from brazil. Pelley police in munich are questioning a 16 year old friend of the teenager who went on a shooting rampage on friday. He killed nine before taking his own life. Seth doane has been looking into why. Reporter German Police said David Ali Sonboly had been preparing his attack for more than a year. The 18 year old was bullied at school, suffered from depression and spent two months in a psychiatric hospital. He apparently shot his nine victims at random. Investigator robert heinberger told us at this point they had not established a clear motive. You say he was obsessed with mass killings. Was there a turning point when you realized that indeed he was planning one himself . We cannot say if there is an exact point in time, he said, but in 2015 he started conducting research on mass killings. Sonboly visited the site of a 2009 mass shooting where another teenage gunman killed 15 people. Police say he was an avid fan of violent video games. But in real life, he seemed tim i had. He lived just across the street. Hawkin runs a hair salon near where the gunman lived with his family. He was shy, he remembered. Even when i was cutting his hair, he wouldnt talk much. He wasnt weird, he was just quiet. The teen purchased his globing handgun illegally online and fired 57 shots, including the one to his head which killed him. The teenage killer wrote a manifesto that was so long the police have not yet been able to analyze it. It appears he was not motivated by any ideology. Scott, the police told us simply he was a young, mentally ill man. Pelley seth doane reporting for us, thank you. Next from philadelphia, will the russians compete in rio . Pelley russia caught a break today when the International Olympic committee stopped short of banning all russian athletes from the rio olympics because of wide spread doping. Instead the organizations that run each sport will make the decision on who can compete. Russias track and field team was previously banned and that remains in effect. Baseballs hall of fame inducted two heavy hitters today, ken givee, jr. Played 22 seasons with the mariners, reds and white sox. He hit 600 and 30 homeruns good for 6th place all time. Mike piazza hit a record 396 homers as a catcher, not bad considering that he was picked by the dodgers in the 62nd round of the 1988 draft. Political incyte from Bob Schieffer when were back from philadelphia. Pelley joining us in philadelphia, one of the Founding Fathers of Television Convention coverage, Bob Schieffer. Bob, what is Hillary Clinton have to do here . Reporter well, i think she has to be very careful. Because you know, when donald trump was in cleveland, he really came down hard on terrorism and all that. The people on the whole liked him am but outside the whole, some people were frankly frightened by all of that. And she has to be careful not to totally discount the threat of terrorism. People are worried about terrorism. She cannot discount it entirely just in order to put down him. But the other thing, scott, is the chaos in which this convention is getting under way. I mean this has been a year of surprises but if you had told me that this convention was going to open in chaos, the Democratic National Committee Chair woman was going to resign over yet another email scandal, and then the clinton people say theyre hearing from experts, this is the fault of russians and that the russians may have been doing this to help donald trump, i mean this is above my pay grade. I dont know i just wouldnt have predicted this. Pelley well, speaking of trump, he hasnt doan toned anything down. He has not only not toned it down, he ratcheted it up. Today when chuck todd asked him would he support a democrat over former ku klux klan leader david duke without is going to run for the senate, he said he would support a democrat but he would want to know who democrat was. I mean i have never heard anybody qualify an answer quite like that. And then yesterday. Pelley bob. Yes. Pelley bob, thank you very much. That sour special edition of the cbs weekend news. Im scott pelley shakeup at the dnc. Party chairman is resigning after a new email scandal. We talk to the nominee in waiting. Did you know anything about any of that . Also tonight, ted koppel with donald trump. I heard you say several, oh, i can be so president ial. True. Havent seen it yet. And what will president obama do on his last day in office . I will probably look at the cup board, because. Pelley this is a special edition of the cbs weekend news with scott pelley. Reporting tonight from the Democratic National convention in philadelphia. Pelley well, this convention is beginning with a developing scandal and emails are at the center of it. It is forcing the chairman of the Democratic National committee to announce today she will step down at the end of this week. Nangsee cordes has the breaking news, nancy . Reporter scott, the concern was that this controversy could overshadow the convention and make it even more difficult for clinton to win over sceptical Bernie Sanders supporters. So Debbie Wasserman schultz announced that after five and a half years as chair of the Democratic Party she would be stepping down. A raft of Democratic Leaders from the president to the Vice President to Hillary Clinton tried to soften the landing by saying that she had served admirably and that they considered her a good friend. That leak of about 20,000 emails revealed that she had called the Sanders Campaign a mess, had criticized him and his campaign manager, and worse, some of her aides had actually discussed ways to blunt his momentum like bringing up what they believed was his faith or lack of it, scott. Pelley nancy cordes, thank you very much. All of that suggesting that there was a thumb on the scale at the Democratic National committee in faifer of Hillary Clinton. And against her opponent. Well, immediately after the news broke, we spoke with the chairman of the clintonkaine campaign, john poddesta . Why did chairwoman Wasserman Schultz feel compelled to resign today . Well, you know this wikileaks situation in which we dont know exactly what happened. We dont even know exactly what nature of the release was, who did it, but we do know that its created some controversy. And i think what congressman Wasserman Schultz wants to do is have a very successful convention. She wants to see Hillary Clinton elected president. She thought sh was a distraction and she decided for i think the good of the election, the good of the convention to step aside at the end of the convention and let someone else take the helm at the dnc. Pelley apparently from her resignation we should take that the e mails are authentic . Well, i think whether they are authentic or they are not, what we do know is that they kreelted a great controversy here in philadelphia. And i think that debbie recognized that. And i think she has worked so hard to build the party. She was successful in getting president obama reelected. And wanted to do everything she could to make sure again that the party was unified and that we came together. And i think in her mind the best thing to do was step aside and let someone else take the helm. Democrats spent the week looking at republican digs unity. I think will you start it with a little of your own. I think we will start unified, looking forward to a positive convention in stark contrast to what the grim view of america that donald trump and the republicans presented. I think were going to have tremendous incomer here. And were going to talk about the future. Were going to talk about what building an Inclusive Committee can really be economy, that the economy is working for everyone, not just the people at the top, what it means to the american people. So well have a lot of real people. Well have some big stars including president obama, president clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Corrie Booker and of course tim kaine now that he has been selected as our Vice President ial nominee. He was fabulous in miami as he was introduced to the american people. And we expect it will be a big stage for him to talk directly to the american people. The chairman of the Clinton Kaine campaign. Before he talked to the convention or will talk to the convention, senator tim kaine talked to us for tonights 60 minutes. Senator, are you ready to be president of the United States . I think im ready to lead. Im ready first to be a support of Vice President so that the presidency of Hillary Clinton is a fantastic one. But if something were to put that in my path, as much as any human being would be ready, i would be ready, harry truman said when fdr dried, he said i felt like the sun, moon and stars had fallen on me. He did not feel ready, as talented as he was, as great a president as he was, because the magnitude of the task was so large. And you have to approach it with humility. But whether missionary, civil rights lawyer, local officials, state official, federal official, i have climbed and i havent missed a rung on the ladder. And if it were to come that way, i could do. If i could just add, as i was saying, i have had this unique experience of having been in the white house when bill was president , having worked closely with president bush on our recovery from 9 11, and serving in president obamas first term. And so i am going into this with my eyes wide open. This is an incredibly difficult job, for anybody. But you never know whats going to be waiting. We have our agenda. We have a very positive agenda. Will you hear a lot about it in philadelphia this week. Pelley well have our interview with Hillary Clinton and tim kaine coming up tonight on 60 minutes. Well, while the democrats were putting on their show here in philadelphia, the Trump Campaign will be counterprogramming. Major garrett has more about that, major . Reporter scott, Donald Trumps number one priority this week is not to campaign so much for his ticket or his party but to drive a wedge if he can between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. You see, trump has always believed despite the evidence and sanders own words that he can draw supporters of the vermont senator into his pop liss coalition. So to twitter, trump went today declaring in all caps clintons selection of tim kaines as running mate showed total disrespect. And later that sanders would have won the nomination but for the votes of Party Leaders who act as superdelegates. Then trump turned his sights on sanders protraying him as quote a weak and some what pathetic figure. Trump urged sanders supporters to fight clinton all week here in philadelphia, les their so called Political Revolution fall apart. That really is in keeping with trurps roll here all week as social media provocateur and to prevent the damage that trump hopes to inflict, clinton acquiesced in the ouster of party chair Wasserman Schultz, a move sanders says will make the party more welcoming to his supporters. Pelley major, what is trump planning for the rest of this week . Well, the most important aspect of the Trump Campaign in public, rather, this week meaning visible will be wednesday in scanton, pennsylvania. You might remember that is the hometown of sitting Vice President joe biden. Who when biden speaks to this convention wednesday, trump will have tried to outdo him earlier in the day in scranton, pennsylvania. Pelley Major Garrett in philadelphia with us. Thank you. Donald trump talked to ted koppel for todays edition of cbs news sunday morning. How do you convince the doubters . How do you convince the people who are sitting out there, and there are a lot of people sitting out there, saying i cant believe that donald j. Trump is the nominee. I cant believe it. You have covered me for a long time. We have known each other for a long time. My whole life has been winning. You know, i have won whether i did the apprentice, went on television same question. You cant compare anything you have done before. Tremendous success in business. Tremendous success with i go into trvetion, do i a show its a big success. I mean you talked at one point, in fact i heard you say it several times. Oh, i can be so president ial. Thats true. I havent seen it yet. I think you have. I think you have. I mean i still see that flair of temper. I still see that donald trump who likes to jab people in the ribs when he feels he has tho, are we going to see more of that or less i mean youre going after hillary there is no question of that. I mean shes a competitor. Just like when im running the nation. But is it going to get nasty . With hillary, well, i mean, shes taking very nasty ads. Its not like its funny that im going after her, she spent 102 million on negative ads. And everyone says you are going after hillary. She spent 102 million on negative ads. I havent literally bought an ad. I will. We have a lot of money. Pelley ted koppel with donald trump. With the convention ik town, the population of philadelphia is growing by at least 50,000. The citys police force of more than 6,000 officers says its ready for anything. Heres our Homeland Security correspondent jeff pegues. We want a revolution. Thousands of people marched in downtown philadelphia this afternoon. They were noisy but peaceful. In 2 thousand at the last Political Convention here, there were hundreds of arrests. Police say they are prepared if demonstrations get out of hand this week. 35,000 of 50,000 protestors are expected each day. The city has purchased more than 250 Million Dollars in insurance to cover potential damage and another 5 million in case any of the citys 6,000 Police Officers is sued. The designated protest zone is about four miles from downtown within view. Convention site. Former pil pil Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says its the unexpected that keeps commanders up at night. Somethings going to happen thats going to be unexpected. And how well are you going to be able to handle that. How flexible will you be . In the command center at an undisclosed location, the secret service will moniter what is happening. Special agent in charge james henry. We prepare for a variety of different scenarios, many different types of threats. Anything from a lone gunman, an organized attack, an aircraft that comes into restricted airspace. We have learned that within the last two weeks the swat teams as well as the countersniper teams have put their tack kal Response Plan to the test. They went through several different scenarios including an attack on a facility as well as an ambush of a motorcade. Scott, one more concern, independent lone wolf attacks. Pelley jeff pegues covering it for us tonight. Thank you. Cbs news prime time coverage of the Convention Begins tomorrow at 10 00 eastern, 9 00 central. Of course thats 7 00 in the west and i will be joined again by norah odonnell, charlie rose, gayle king and john dikerson. Whoever wins in november will be facing a world of trouble on day one. We have been talking to leading experts about the challenges. And tonight Margaret Brennan speaks with former defense secretary robert gates about americas strained relations with russia. On day one what does the next president encounter . I think the next president needs to begin with what is putin trying to do. I think putin is one of these leaders who will push forward as long as theres no significant resistance. But hes not suicidal. Hes not delutional, hes not crazy. Putin is trying to reassert russia as a great power player in the world. If he can do it politically, he will. If he needs to do it militarily, he will. Whats the worstCase Scenario. The real worst case is some of these conditions the russians have bb engaged in, buzzing our ships, flying so close to our aircraft, and so on, that there is an accident. And it escalates. The new president has to lay down the line, you dont do that with our ships or planes any more. It must begin with letting putin know hes come to the end of the rope. That we are not going to put up with his medelling, and there will be further consequences. What is the best Case Scenario for where we are headed . I think the best case is a new president that has a lot of credibility. That putin takes seriously, and that imines to lay down some clear guide lines for our own government, but also for the russians in terms of what we will tolerate and what we wont tolerate. So you think its possible to have a better relationship . I think it. Is but it begins with putin understanding that the United States is not going to be pushed around. Heres where the candidates stand. Hillary clinton has called Vladimir Putin a bully and vowed to stop his meddling in ukraine and syria by punishing russia with more fngs sanctions. Donald trump, on the other hand, has praised putin calling him a strong leader. He also wants to cut back on funding nato and shift its focus away from countering russia. He plans to leave putin alone in the war on syria. Pelley Margaret Brennan with our day one series. Margaret, thank you. Coming up next on this special edition of the cbs weekend news, the International Olympic committee ducks a decision on banning russian athletes for doping. And later, a wildf who do you talk to for military advice right now . Im Hillary Clinton and i approved this message. Well, i watch the shows. I mean i really see a lot of great you know, when you watch your show and all of the other shows. While donald trump watched tv, as secretary of state, Hillary Clinton negotiated a cease fire in gaza. A reduction in nuclear weapons. Took on Vladimir Putin. And stood up against the trafficking of human beings. A steady leader in an unsteady world. Pelley looks like russians will be competing at the rio olympics despite the doping scandal. But how many and in what sports, we dont know. Because today the International Olympic Committee Left the decision to somebody else. Elizabeth palminger is following this palmer. Reporter this afternoon russias Gymnastic Team having guessed right that the ioc wouldnt ban them from the games was at the airport heading for rio. Ioc president tomas brks ach. Every human being is entitled to individual justice. The ioc has refused to deliver collective punishment to the russians for doping. And has now passed the buck. Its going to be up to individual sporting federations to certified which russian athletes are clean enough to take part in the games. Russias track and field athletes are already out of the running. The International Athletic federation has banned the whole team from competing in rio because of widespread statesponsored doping. Call it a fuj or a compromise, many athletes like former u. K. Olympic marathoner mar yamau chi believe the iocs decision was the wrong one. I really dont see see how anything than a blanket ban can be proportionate to that kind of wrongdoing. Reporter vitali, russias sports minister was sounding both relieved and confident today. I am absolutely sure that 90 of the russian team, he said, will be in rio. Now, scott, the individual sporting federations have the some say Impossible Task of reviewing the drug testing as a results of hundreds of russian athletes with only 12 days to go before the games begin. Pelley liz palmer in the london newsroom, thank you. When we come back, it was a hard road to dear fellow citizen, spending time hunting treasures with my daughter is wonderful. At least 18 homes near los angeles have been destroyed by a wildfire in the santa claritya valley, the fire exploded in size this weekend propelled by triple digit heat and severe draught. On californias central coast, another fire is threatening more than 1600 homes and businesses. The so called heat dome that has been smotterring much of the nation is not expected to break for several more days. High humidity in the east has Health Officials urging people to stay indoors. Up next, what president obama plans to do right before h finally tonight president obama has just 180 days left in office. In a face the nation interview, john dikerson asked the president about the last day. On the last day, what are you going to do, go look at the recommendington, the hopper, what for you in this room is the emancipation proclamation is no longer here. Thats no here any longer. I will telt you that i will probably look at the carpet. Because i still remember it took us a couple of years to actually get the thing in we didnt want to remodel in the middle of a recession even though that is the tradition. But i still remember thinking about those quote put on from teddy roosevelt, and jfk and Martin Luther king. And i will probably wonder whether i did everything i could to stay true to those quotes. And hopefully i will be able to say yes. President obama will address this convention on wednesday. And thats our special edition of the cbs weekend news from philadelphia.
