Going over and voting for him . Absolutely. You have to do that or you cant win. And that was just the beginning. It was the first time we really saw senator sanders on defense while mayor bloomberg got a chance to answer some of the questions he failed to answer one week again the senator Elizabeth Warren tried to paint herself as the best progressive option. And former Vice President joe biden showed he is still very much in the race and ready to fight. We have our team of reporters on the ground in South Carolina to bring you all the latest. Shaq, senator sanders, three days away from a state that he got killed in back in 2016. He is closing in on biden, so whats his plan for the final stretch . Reporter trying to hold on to as much momentum as possible. Especially after the pile on you saw on the debate stage last night. As he told me in the spin room afterwards he said, quote, i am still standing. Thats despite about 33 times his opponents on that debate stage attacked him directly, nearly double of any other candidate. There was a lot they attacked him on, his embrace of socialism, record on guns, as far as aides and advisers, they feel good about his performance, he was able to stay with his core message, the same ideas, lines we hear all the time from senator sanders, they say he raised about 1. 3 million, just in the three hours after the start of the debate. He has his eyes set out beyond South Carolina. Hes still competing here and has events throughout the day but youll see him in north carolina, virginia, massachusetts this weekend. This is a campaign signaling, despite the pile on you saw last night, theyre feeling good and looking ahead to the rest of the calendar. Lets talk senator warren. She again came out swinging for mayor bloomberg but hes not on the ballot. Shes trailing behind Bernie Sanders. Whats her strategy . This is the last debate before voters go to the polls in South Carolina but also the last debate before super tuesday. If you look at where her campaign has spent their time and resources, its next tuesday theyre looking ahead to, i think with Michael Bloomberg that stuff is for the base. We saw what it was able to do in reinvigorating her fundraising after the last debate. Theres really no down side going after Michael Bloomberg for Elizabeth Warren. With Bernie Sanders we know theres a little bit of overlap in their support. Elizabeth warren cant come to that fight, which is one she resisted for several months now. She cant come to the fight just flame throwing and brushing attacks at him. Thats one she has to come to with a scalpel. That was the approach she took last night, making a direct contrast with Bernie Sanders, not necessarily attacking him but saying she thinks shes progressives best choice for a president. And they have one shot at getting these policies done and theyre going to need to have a champion there who can be effective. Thats an argument we heard from her on the campaign trail. Whats new is the way she talks about how she provides more details on the health care front than sanders does. Thats something she reiterated to me when i asked if she waited too long to go down that road. Lets talk mayor pete. Whats his plan to get delegate information . Were in North Charleston right now at reverend sharptons National Action here, all campaigns, except Michael Bloomberg, will be appearing at this church, Amy Klobuchar is addressing the group now. Take note of what mayor pete did. There was one other candidate he went toetotoe with, Bernie Sanders. This campaign insisted theyll square up senator sanders and let the rest of the chips fall where they may. In South Carolina, indications right now are that Pete Buttigieg will not necessarily have the strongest of performances compared to the first other three states but the campaign in a memo last night they said their goal is to keep Bernie Sanders delegate lead below 350. They believe at that point the position theyll be in, go to the march 10th and 17th primary states, states like michigan and illinois, and places like arizona and idaho, and missouri. Those states will be up for grabs and they believe those states later in march and heading to april are much more favorable to them. This is a campaign that has no intention of leaving this race after South Carolina and leaving it after super tuesday. This is a delegate game for them, theyre going on the airwaves in 22 specific media markets and trying to pull delegates. For mayor bloomberg last week was a disaster, last night was a doover, did it work . Reporter the Bloomberg Campaign feels like he stemmed the bleeding after that disastrous first debate. Found less dismissive ways to talk about the issues he knew was going to come up, such as the nondisclosure agreements, the stop and frisk policies. So they feel it bought them time and breathing room, especially since hes not on the ballot here. One thing that was really interesting that we didnt see from Mike Bloomberg last night, stephanie, all day yesterday we were talking about how bloomberg and his surrogates were signaling he had all this Opposition Research ready to unload on Bernie Sanders, old comments they unearthed of things Bernie Sanders had said, instead we didnt see bloomberg bring up any of that. Instead his critique of Bernie Sanders was narrowly focussed on electability, whether he can beat donald trump and whether moderate republicans would be coming over to support Bernie Sanders. Former Vice President joe biden made a strong play for South Carolina voters last night. Is super tuesday on the biden campaigns mind at all or is it all about South Carolina . Reporter theyre related. Let me explain. We saw from joe biden last night an urgency and energy we havent seen in previous debates. Someone who knows South Carolina isnt just a must win but a must win big for him. What his firewall is the support hes shown among africanamerican voters, so critical here where three in five votes will be from africanamerican voters, and on super tuesday, theyre all states that also have a significant africanamerican population. So while weve seen joe biden making a strong pitch here in South Carolina, hes been doing things that will help him in those states ahead. Hes been doing radio interviews, newspaper interviews with black publishers, broadcasters and speaking in the debate to issues across the country, nominating the first africanamerican woman to the supreme court. You heard the reaction last night and how thats playing for him here. You guys better rest up, its going to be a busy few days. We need to answer the question, will any of that, any of what we saw last night be enough to change the minds of voters in that important state of South Carolina or states like california or texas. Micha micha michael bazzle is here. And former democratic congressman, steve israel. And tim miller. Congressman, i know its not an endorsement but youre a biden guy. Vice President Biden and others, what was your biggest take away . Joe biden had the night he needed. He walked away from the stage with he refound his swing. But i have to say, as a biden supporter, i think everybody walked off that stage with a feeling of accomplishment, Mike Bloomberg kind of crawled out of the hole he was in from las vegas. Bernie sanders took punches but he didnt go down for the count. I would conclude with this, what we saw with Bernie Sanders last night, stephanie, was an exceptional democratic primary candidate with passion but a risky general election candidate. If you are the democrats you have to try to win florida and the electoral college. One way not to win florida is to take votes for granted. One way to take votes for granted is to praise cuba and criticize israel. Great tactical primary strategy but over the long haul he showed that he continues to be a risky candidate in some of those bell weather states. Victoria . The question is are we going to win the Democratic Party by getting crossovers, progressives, moderates or by increasing the electorate, getting young people to turn out, by getting the latinos, the black voters that went down in 2016 compared to 2012. That is the question. We see that sanders is banking on the later. Hes saying were going to expand the pie and this is how we beat trump. Its the same playbook trump used in 2016, im going to get people to come out and vote for me. Were going to get people fired up for us. I dont know, stephanie. When youre looking at the Bernie Sanders campaign, he held a rally in austin on sunday night, with 17,000 people is there. The Political Science in me says look at the data, young people dont show out but theres energy there. Without a doubt what hes offering is extraordinary. Free college, free trade school, medicare for all, free housing for those who cant afford it, erasing student debt, medical debt. But for the broader Democratic Party, the coalition, when you talk to lawmakers, how realistic that that type of agenda is going to go through. Id be pumped about the agenda. That speaks to congressman israels point, all the congressional seats flipped here in new york. We flipped local legislative seats. Those are things folks are concerned about. So yes, i think that overall you see Bernie Sanders with incredible amount of enthusiasm, but if youre an elected official, a donor and youre concerned about whats going to happen with the Democratic Party after this election, thats a critical point. I would also add quickly, there are a lot of folks i talked to last night that watched that debate and said what a mess. My concern coming off last night, everybody did what they had to do, but are we making our candidates unlikable and unelectable in a general election . Thats my biggest fear. All of that sniping, i wonder if anything is getting through or are people turning off their television . Mr. Miller . On two items. One, the down ballot issue is real. I think people on twitter and sometimes democratic strategies like to pretend antitrumpers dont exist. But in phoenix, orange county, richmond, virginia, these arent places with a lot of Bernie Sanders voters. Theyre crossover, suburban, mitt romney voters that went for democrats because they dont like donald trump. So they would be right to worry they would z lose those seats with Bernie Sanders at the top of the ticket. I think last night pete made the point well. But i dont think anybody mnaild bernie to the wall. I think biden had the best hit on him, going after primarirying president obama. President obama is still popular in the Democratic Party, i think thats a good line for him. I think biden seems like the best person positioned to take him on and last night he calmed some of the worries that maybe people had as they were looking at the other candidates. Tim, youre a nevertrumper stephanie can i . Yes. I wanted to back up what tim said, 30 democrats in congress in districts that donald trump won. When you hear tax increases and you hear medicare for all, which means youre coming off your insurance, those 30 democrats are nervous that those coattails if Bernie Sanders is the nominee are going to wipe them out. Remember in 2016 and tim i turned to you, youre a nevertrumper. We heard all along that campaign, donald trump doesnt represent who the Republican Party is, this isnt us. Were hearing the same thing from establishment democrats. Maybe the Democratic Party is about to be the party of sanders in the same way the Republican Party is the party of trump. It might. I think that argument, stephanie, has frozen this field a little bit for Bernie Sanders. I think a lot of people who would ultimately think maybe bernie is not electable or too far out are saying what the heck it worked for trump, maybe we should give it a try. Right now the delmocratic party is the party of the suburbs. The Republican Party is the party of working class, blue collar working class white voters. Those are the parties right now as of 2018. That means its a trump party and a kind of center left moderate party. Sand ers wants to shake that up, im not saying its impossible for him to do that, but it would be a massive switch in the party. Seems the safer bet is going with what worked 15 months ago. Every democratic candidate said they want to look into Campaign Finance reform, theres too much money in politics. Mayor bloomberg said previously if hes not the candidate he will be the number one most important person to the candidate in terms of Financial Support because his goal is to beat donald trump. Last night, senator sanders aide said thats a hard pass. We dont want bloombergs support. Id rethink that. Its one thing if he wants to fund his own campaign. I think he said he spent 100 million getting democrats elected and the money he spent on gun control, its important to me, personally, our base. Youre not going to get money out of politics any time soon and for those that rail against his wealth. Were not having conversations about independent expenditures and other organizations that have less transparency. Im not opposed to it. One of my favorite sayings is dont cut your nose to spite your face. Its bloody. It leaves a mark. Thats whats going to happen if Bernie Sanders is the nominee and he doesnt take that money. We talked about this last night. I understand the argument of not wanting money in politics, but you know what, lets put the bandaid on, lets get the bleeding down and then we can fix the issue of money in politics. We can work on citizens united, tweak that. But if we dont have a seat at the table, theres no way in this universe were going to address the issue. Thank you. Well leave it there. Coming up, the president set to speak about coronavirus tonight as the cdc directly contradicts the president , issuing a stark warning about its potential impact. Is this administration prepared for it . Are they providing us with the information so we can prepare for it . First we are moments away from one of the most prized endorsements of the 2020 race for president , certainly in South Carolina, well bring it to you live. Uld another come ard the corner. Or could it play out differently . I wanted to help protect myself. My doctor recommended eliquis. Eliquis is proven to treat and help prevent another dvt or pe blood clot. Almost 98 of patients on eliquis didnt experience another. And eliquis has significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. Eliquis is fdaapproved and has both. Dont stop eliquis unless your doctor tells you to. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. If you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling numbness or muscle weakness. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily. And it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planed medical or dental procedures. Whats around the corner could be your moment. Ask your doctor about eliquis. I often see them have teeth sensitivity as well as gum issues. Does it worry me . Absolutely. They are both very much hand in hand. So you should really be focusing on both and definitely at the same time. The new sensodyne sensitivity gum gives us the dual action effect that really takes care of both our teeth sensitivity as well as our gum issues. By brushing with sensodyne sensitivity gum at home its giving you the relief that you need and the control that you need to take care of your oral health. And it creates a healthier environment. Theres no question its something that i would recommend. At any second influential South Carolina congressman jim clyburn is set to announce his endorsement in the president ial race. Nbc news learned hes expected to back former Vice President joe biden. It comes ahead of saturdays primary in South Carolina. A state vp biden should perform well in, but given his disappointing performances in iowa, New Hampshire and nevada, it could be a make or break moment for him. Joining me now is tremayne lee. And the former governor of South Carolina jim hogins joins us. Tremayne, last night you were part of a black voters matter debate watch party. What did you hear . Reporter i wanted to go to this party to get a sense of what might sway voters, resonate. The biggest applause lines came about when the candidates talked about systemic and structural racism. And they wanted to hear about it before the socalled black primary. The message was loud and clear. There was another through line that emerged, lets take a listen. Among black folks there seems to be a divide between joe biden and Bernie Sanders and warren and some of the others, especially the more progressives, what do you make of that . I think its the age thing. With joe biden i think its more being familiar with him, the elders are pulling more towards joe biden and the younger, black voters are pulling towards sanders and warren. Reporter i spoke to an organizer after the event she said young voters and older voters want the same things, but especially young voters they saw something broken in 2016 and they want drastic change, the playbook is out the window and they want to shake things up, many are going for more progressive candidates like sanders or warren, but the loyal traditional black voters, the ones that candidates can count on most, those like joe biden who have a relationship with this community, have been here for years and may get the endorsement of a stalwart and mountain of a man, jim clyburn. Did mayor bloomberg blow another opportunity to make his case to young black voters . He never spent any time talking about his Economic Empowerment plan that includes spending 70 billion in our poorest communities. Instead every time the issue comes up, he gets entangled talking about stop and frisk. Has he made his case to those voters . Reporter the way hes making his case is putting the money in ad buys, folks that dont know about stop and frisk and see him as a successful businessman that has the ability to go against donald trump. But last night, candidate by candidate, was stop and frisk racist, yes. If he gets into this frame he has to be careful. Remember, there are few candidates up there that dont have ghosts of the past and tent cals from back home, Amy Klobuchars prosecutorial remember, joe biden and the crime bill and Pete Buttigieg and his struggles in south bend. It was a land mine for bloomberg. If anyone wants to bring up criminal justice he has to be wary because 4. 5 Million People stopped in new york city. Less than 1 found with a weapon. Found to be unconstitutional. So the rights of black and brown men especially were run through rough shod for many years. So while bloomberg can out the progress in new york city, he has to be careful. But hes banging on the ad buys in the states and cities that if youre not attached to a candidate, youre a nontraditional voter, you see the ads that are well done. Some folks put a line of black folk behind you, bloomberg on his apology tour he had has a room filled with black people, naming the plan the greenwood plan after oklahoma, people understand that. And hes been seeding the ground for years in the communities. While he hasnt grown his relationships with block voters hes in communities with mayors and infrastructure. So he has a relationship there. Governor, as we await jim clyburns endorsement, how big of a boost would it be very vp biden. Very big. Representative clyburn is the leader of the Democratic Party here in South Carolina but even bo beyond our state where hes important. The signal about the collaborative endorsement is big for the biden campaign. He has traditionally not endorsed here. The fact he feels that strongly about joe biden speaks volumes about the relationship between two of them and sends powerful signals throughout the africanamerican community. How much influence does he have over africanamerican voters in your state . Hes a very influential person in South Carolina. And it confirms, if anything, the feelings that africanamericans have for joe biden. My sense from moving around the state in talking to people is that its breaking strongly towards joe biden and hes going to have a very good saturday. Were going to take you right now to the stage. We see jim clyburn and former Vice President joe biden shaking hands. Big smiles across the board. And jim clyburn is about to take the podium. Theyre still giving a hug or two. Governor, if saturday doesnt prove to be a big win for the former Vice President or super tuesday, what will that mean for his campaign . Hes had a rough start. He needs to win South Carolina. I mean, i i dont think theres any doubt that winning South Carolina is important. And i think it will i mean, to me it can become a twoperson race if he wins South Carolina. I think the other candidates need to make a decision about whether or not they drop out on. I think it will become a biden, sanders race. Lets take you there, jim clyburn speaking now. My classmate in the congress. We first met at the Democratic National convention in 1972. And we have maintained a friendship ever since. We had no idea that we would end up getting elected to congress the same year. And i owe a great deal to ed. I never would have become chair of the Congressional Black Caucus if not for her tutelage. I thank her for being here today. Several of our colleagues wanted to join us today, but when we decide to make this announcement on this day, they had already booked flights back home and back to washington and could not change their flights. Or they could have, but they were not able to get out in time to make votes this afternoon. So theyre not here. I have, joining with me today, several members of the state legislature. Two state senators. Molly kempson, jerry malloy. Jerry malloy and i spend as much time together as i would spend maybe as i spend with some of my brothers. Most on the phone talking about the state we love so much and what the future of this state is all about, and i thank him for being here. Oh, three. Marjorie matthews. I told her earlier, i keep forgetting her add on name, brighton. Thats her political name. So i thank her so much. And from the state legislature from the house, marvin pendavis for being here today. I want to say a couple things about why were here. I was next door at breakfast and they have established an award in my wifes name, my late wife, and they decided i should be the first recipient of that award. And there was some we met on campus come march 15th 60 years ago. Ill always remember that day because that was the first day that i was arrested. And i met her in jail on that day. About 18 months later we were married. Stayed married for 58 years. We talked about this state that we love so much. I remember her telling me about her experiences. Walking two and a half miles to school every morning. Two and a half miles back home. Every afternoon. A little 22 acre farm. She learned how to drive in a pickup truck. She came to South Carolina state in that pickup truck with her luggage on the bed. How her father would walk to somerville to work in the off season. We talked about what our parents sacrificed for us. And what we owed to our children. And all other children similarly situated. We often talked about the leadership of this country. And theres nobody who emily loved as a leader in this country more than she loved joe biden. And we talked about joe all the time. And so, as i was trying to make up my mind what i should do and when i should do it, i was informed that my accountant had passed away. And his funeral was last friday. In a rural part of richland county. I went to the funeral. I got there about 30 minutes early. And i was Walking Around speaking to people, many of whom i had not seen in a long time. And i spoke to them, and there was an elderly lady in her upper 80s, sitting on the front pew of the church. Just a few seats away from the coffin. And she looked at me and she beckoned to me. Didnt say a word, just beckoned. I went over to her, she said, lean down. I need to ask you a question. And i leaned down. And she said, you dont have to say it out loud, would you just whisper into my ear who are you going to vote for . Next saturday. Ive been waiting to hear from you. I need to hear from you. This Community Wants to hear from you. I decided then and there that i would not stay silent. Martin luther king jr. , in his letter from birmingham jail, wrote that he was coming to the conclusion that the people of ill will in our society was making a much better use of time than the people of goodwill. And he feared that we would regret not just for the words and deeds of bad people but for the their appalling silence of good people. The appalling silence of good people. I decided after that experience last friday with that elderly constituent and my background, experience and studies of Martin Luther king jr. That i would break my silence today. And ive been saying to the media, ive known for a long time who im going to vote for. But i had not decided well, not to share it with the public. But i want the public to know that im voting for joe biden. South carolina should be voting for joe biden, and heres why. Theres billboards around this counter. On that billboard is my pledge. A lot of people ask me, why do you do billboards . Because my late wife said to me, i dont care how many tv ads you run, radio ads you run, when you run for office, i want to see billboards. Thats why i do billboards. And one of my colleagues says, this is the first time ive seen a political billboard but no picture on it. Why isnt your picture on the billboard . I said, because it aint about me. Its about the message on that billboard. And the message is simply this. Making the greatness of this country accessible and affordable for all. We dont need to make this country great again, this country is great. Thats not what our challenge is. Our challenge is making the greatness of this country accessible and affordable for all. If its health care, is it accessible, is it affordable . Education, is it accessible, is it affordable . Housing, energy making it accessible and affordable. And nobody with whom ive ever worked in public life is any more committed to that motto, that pledge that i have to my constituents, than joe biden. Joe biden and i used to spend a lot of time doing tv stuff together. We got to know each other. I know joe. We know joe. But most importantly, joe knows us. Thats right. Thats important. Everybody think about brown v. Board of education. It may have started here, but brown v. Board of education, five cases, one was from South Carolina, one from virginia, one from district of columbia, one from kansas. But the fifth case was from delaware. We have discussed thoroughly the case from delaware and the brigs case from South Carolina. Thats how i know this man. I know his heart. I know who he is. I know what he is. I know where this country is. We are at an inflection point. On that day i met emily, i went to jail around 10 00 in the morning and i was discharged from jail, bailed out, around 5 30 in the evening. When i sat in jail that day, i wondered whether or not we were doing the right thing. But i was never fearful. Of the future. As i stand before you today, i am fearful for the future of this country. Im fearful for my daughters and their futures and their children, and their childrens future. This country is at an inflection point. Its time for us to restore this countrys dignity. This countrys respect. That is what is at stake this year, and i can think of no one better suited, better prepared, i can think of no one with the integri integrity, no one more committed to the fundamental principles to make this country what it is than my good friend, my late wifes great friend, joe biden. There you have it, the powerful speech congressman jim clyburn giving his official endorsement to former Vice President joe biden. It will carry a great deal of weight in South Carolina and potentially super tuesday. From there we have to turn to the markets. This morning they are up after an absolutely brutal start to the week. The dow down 1,900 points in two days. That translates to roughly 1. 7 trillion bucks being wiped out in 48 hours. All of this is tied directly to growing fears about the spread of the coronavirus. The number of overall cases increasing now across europe, asia and the middle east for the first time cases have popped up in greece, algeria and brazil. More than 81,000 cases worldwide, including 2,700 deaths, 57 cases report td in the u. S. But no one has died. Just a short time ago the president announced a press conference for 6 00 p. M. This evening at the same time the president is blaming democrats for trying to spread fear about the virus. But the truth is, his own administration has spread confusion by offering mixed messages about the threat. You may ask about the coronavirus, which is, you know, very well under control in our country. The people are getting better. Theyre all getting better. This is an unprecedented, potential Severe Health challenge globally. We cannot seal off the United States to a virus. And we need to be realistic about that. We have contained this, we have contained this. I wont say airtight but pretty close to airtight. We recognize that our very strong measures here in the United States to contain the virus, to keep it limited to very low numbers may not hold for the long haul, the transmissability has us wanting to be prepared. I have to bring in jeff mazon and andrew soykin. Andrew, to you first when the president says the fault lies on democrats spreading falsehoods about the virus, is that why the market tanked . Its not like investors know whats going to happen but they have to depend on information, youre getting mixed messages out of the United States and you cant trust what you get out of china. People heard what the cdc had to say yesterday where they told all americans we have to get prepared for this and investors, in part because of algorithms and other things, the algorithms took offer and were back up today. But the question is does this spread, how big does it spread. Its one thing this taking place in china, its another if were having this conversation about the coronavirus coming to new york, coming to los angeles, coming to detroit or places of that sort with a 14day we dont i was going to say a 14day incubation period and we dont know. There are doctors who believe it may be here and we dont know that yet. So a lot of investors are taking a wait and see approach saying if we got headlines like that would we be talking about 3 down or 10 down . Having said all that, i would caution viewers, this is important, historically, its just history here, when there have been events like this, the market has rallied back pretty quickly often times within six months to a year to highs much higher than where they were during these periods. For folks running for the exits, im not sure thats the right approach either. But then there are folks sitting on the side lilines with cash saying do i put it in now or do i wait because its going to get worse later . When people are running for the exits it doesnt necessarily mean they know worse news is coming for any investor, parent, owner of a business, isnt everything about managing risk . And you cant manage risk if you dont know what it is. All of this is managing risk. Thats part of the issue, we dont know what it is. It may be that it passes us, it may be a this we have a genuine outbreak. And what does that look like . Do people stop going to stores, to work . Are there shutdowns at factories . Were talking does this come to the United States . What happens if it comes to mexico, to canada . There are so many unknowns here i think a lot of people are saying we are going to wait. The other piece of this by the way is the market had been on the run up for the a tear really for the past couple weeks already, so some of this is giving back gains i think there were people who were uncomfortable and skeptical about to begin with. Take the market out of it, jeff. Talk to mothers and fathers out there who arent sure if they want to put their kids on a school bus or a class trip to a theme park. What position is the white house in that the president is saying everything is better and larry kudlow is saying we have this thing airtight, what ground can they make those claims . I guess the grounds for the claims so far is that there arent that many cases in in the United States. As the president said the cases that are present in this country, those people have been getting better. The other message from the cdc, theres no way to seal off this country. And the concern both for the markets and for mothers and fathers i would think across this country and across the world is that as you see it spread in a country like italy, in iran, theres just as andrew was saying, theres lots of question marks and unknowns about when and where its going to come somewhere else. The administration is under pressure to up and increase its response, certainly under pressure from democrats and some republicans, the president pushing back blaming the media and the democrats. And a threat to the economy could mean a potential threat to his reelection as well. If the president continues to disregard this or not push, the cdc has only approved the test in four states. How much of a human threat does that put us in . One would think that would take priority over the markets, jeff. Im sure. I think that, you know, the president often looks at the markets closely but he certainly cares about whether or not people are getting this virus on a human level too, this administration does. The question is have they done enough to prepare . The criticism from some democrats, i think even Michael Bloomberg said this on the stage last night, this is something building for some time. Its not a surprise. So should the administration have gotten started earlier, asking for money, putting together its response ahead of what could be spreading in this country coming forward. Andrew, before we go, what does it tell you about the faith the markets have in the information they get from this white house . Investors for the most part are really happy with this administration but after larry kudlow spoke, the market only went down. I think the market went down not because of what larry kudlow had to say, i think it went down frankly because what the cdc had to say, you had a combination of professional well take some money off the table because we dont know what to happen next and you had a mom and pop read the headlines and either go on etrade or call their broker and say, im going to sell something now too because im not sure what will happen either. Im not convinced this is a cdc versus larry kudlow and the markets taking one thing away from trump and one thing away from the markets. Or one thing away in the cdc. I think this is a public story and as long as the cdc is publicly telling the public one thing, well see what the president has to say tonight and see whether that creates more confidence or not. Andrew made a really good point that we want to remind people. Just because investors are selling doesnt mean they think disaster is ahead. They may want to take a breather and the markets had an extraordinary run. Jeff and andrew, thank you so much. Now we have to turn back to last nights debate. Senator Elizabeth Warren insisted womens issues and allegations of sexism are personal for her. So the question many are asking today why did she spend so much time attacking just mayor Mike Bloomberg while appearing to give senator sanders a pass . With me is katie porter, surrogate for the warren campaign. Thank you for joining me. Last night, warren came out swinging against bloomberg again. Instead of going after senator sanders who leads her in delegates and hes in her same political lane. Whats her strategy . What i heard from Elizabeth Warren last night was her ability to draw a clear distinction between herself and other candidates including senator sanders which i thought she did very persuasively at the start of the debate does she did it in a way that isnt selling seeds of discord in the Democratic Party. So she clearly stated very clearly why she would be a more effective president than Bernie Sanders. Yes, we care about wall street, but look, im the one who actually got a Consumer Agency put into law. We both care about enacting health care for people but im the one that has a detailed plan that shows respect for every voter by giving them that information. Some i actually thought what she did really well was draw distinctions between herself and the other democrats on the stage without falling into the yelling and shouting and talking over each other. I thought she sounded president ial last night. Well, shes not opposed to yelling and shouting and she did say i feel that. That addressing sexism is very important personal for her, not political. She is pressing mayor bloomberg on his past comments about women. But if its personal not political, why isnt she raising the similar concerns about senator sanders . Their campaign was hit with allegations of harassment four years ago. One of the contact were talk about is with regard to bloomberg personally not to his organization although his Organization Needs to take responsibility. I saw the other day his organization in response to Elizabeth Warren pressing hip on this issue has announced mandatory Sexual Harassment training which most organizations have adopted long ago. So i think she is effective as an advocate and for womens issues and she holds people to account. Something she has been willing to do. And so she has a long record of willing to stand up, to be a powerful voice to some of the most powerful institutions in the world and now to powerful people on the political stage including mayor bloomberg. Shes not afraid of him or donald trump but she knows how to press people to make the changes that people need and deserve without falling into the shouting and the insecurity that we saw from some of the other candidates. But she made the decision to back away from senator sanders who had said to her a woman cant win the election. A woman cant be president. Shes not pressing him on that anymore. She made clear she thought that statement was unacceptable and she disagreed strongly with it. But the reality here is shes focused on beating President Trump so its possible to draw a distinction, she said very clearly to senator sanders i think what you said was wrong. I disagree clearly. We i definitely think a woman can win. Im going to be that woman. She didnt back away from that statement but she didnt throw unnecessary flames at him. I dont think shes been unnecessarily harsh with bloomberg either. I think he has reacted poorly to what are pretty normal criticisms and back and forth that youll see on the debate stage. The fact he has a long term affiliation with republicans opens him up to critiques, not fair to put it on senator warren. She is exposing the differences between the candidates, for voters to see and judge for themselves in a mature and respectable way. As a sitting member of congress, when you see Bernie Sanders economic plan, free college, free trade school, free housing, erasing student debt and medical debt, how realistic is it to get Something Like that passed . You know all the things that Elizabeth Warren has gotten passed. Think of the money shes brought in from cfpv. Look you have to have a plan for how to do it. You have to explain to skeptics, how is this going to work, what are the steps youre going to take to pass it . While i agree with some is of senator sanderss goals for me theyre naked statements. When i want to know what i want to know is how are you going to enact this and that the ideas youre bringing to the table were developed in partnership with community. So the way that Elizabeth Warren has listened for instance to unions who have negotiated hard for their Health Insurance and then brought them into the conversation about her medicare plan its a real point of contrast with senator sanders. I think we have seen her do that time and time again which is reach out to the community. Shes a great teacher, shes really good listener. Thats an important quality in a president. Thank you so much for joining me today. Always a pleasure speaking with you. Youre such a smart woman. All right. Well be right back. S. Does it worry me . Absolutely. They are both very much hand in hand. So you should really be focusing on both and definitely at the same time.
