Tillerson knows how to manage a Global Organization and successfully navigate the complex architecture of World Affairs and diverse foreign leaders. Dick cheney coming out, the former Vice President moments ago releasing a statement referring as a quote, inspired choice noting the fact these two, cheney and tillerson have been friends for years as tillerson was the ceo and chairman at exxonmobil and based on the personal relationships they have had as well. Heres some of those statements, endorsements, in fact, whats a choreographed campaign on behalf of Rex Tillerson right now. One coming from Condoleezza Rice, the former secretary of state who said in part, the following, Rex Tillerson is an excellent choice for secretary of state. He will bring to the post remarkable and Broad International experience, a deep understanding of the global economy, and a belief in americas special role in the world. The challenge for Rex Tillerson right now is what will happen in terms of the Senate Confirmation hearings Going Forward in advance of the announcement from a series of senators, specifically some republican senators, john mccain and Lindsey Graham and marco rubio who you noted a moment ago. A Climate Change denier or epa or energy . Of course, scott pruitt, whos now been selected as secretary of energy is a skeptic, its safe to say, of Climate Change and a similar view on this. So he was mocking the selection there. Rick perry clearly has been a person that despite calling donald trump a cancer on conservatism early in the campaign ultimately came around to be a surrogate for donald trump and when we repeatedly he hear, in the eyes of ones effectiveness is you have the ear of the president elect and rick perry after a good visit he is someone at least donald trump is willing to listen to. Secretary of state, other cabinet positions and also, you know, its not the easiest th g thing, it takes a lot of time. Multiple meetings with a lot of lawyers and making sure that government ethics are followed and that the best decisions are being made as to who and how the business is going to be run moving forward. Here we are, monday, expecting this News Conference. Thats abruptly cancelled. Did they not know there needed to be more work here . Whats behind this abruptness here . I asked that question to the sources that im speaking with and what they said is that president elect trump is relying on both inside and outside counsel in addition to don mcgan, the pick for his white house chief counsels office and so hes relying on a ton of legal advice and quite frankly, i think that this is just taking a lot longer than they had anticipated but if you look on capitol hill, its not just democrats pressing for more clarity on this but also republicans as well. I know that you reported as of note, the one thing that should be noted is the absence of ivanka, trump, and Jared Kushner in the mention of who will control the company. Lets fast forward here. If this is not done by january 20th, some of the lawmakers that you referred to who are concerned, what can they do, again, going back to the tweet hes not legally man daylighted to do this . January 21st, what happens . I think he will do something, some formal announcement but still pressure on capitol hill but whats interesting about ivanka and jared, of course, is that that seems to signal that they will be taking a more bigger approach here in washington in the policy shop, if you will, of the Trump Administration and of course, with donald trump jr. And eric trump leading the efforts inside trump tower. So perhaps a signal already that the Trump Organization is hearing some of the criticism about potential conflicts of interest in that ivanka will not be involved with the Trump Organization. Podesta about his assessment and thats the point about factbased information but it would be helpful for other Electoral College members to have as much information as possible going into the vote on monday. What more do you need or do you feel you can be provided . What we know is that there has been an unprecedented intervention by a hostile foreign power. We dont know what is there. What we do think is the facts should be put out there and the absence of fact, people make up their own facts. The Intelligence Community has obviously made a great deal of investigation into this. So facts are available but were asking as electors of federal officials given the chance to understand those facts. Let me play what congressman adam shiff said on meet the press on sunday about this issue. There was really nothing preventing the administration on its own from being even more declaratory in what the intelligence showed and im urging the administration to be more forthcoming with the public. I think they should and work with european allies to sanction russia. Do you think that decision to not come out and definitively before the election was a mistake by president obama . I do think it was a mistake. Do you think it was a mistake on the administrations part . Im not president. Im a president ial elector. Im not sure what the administration was looking at but i know theres a report that raises a number of questions. I dont want to prejudge and dont know what president obama was looking at when he made his determination. My biggest disappointment is when the report came out in the Washington Post, mr. Trumps first reaction was to defend russia rather than support his own factbased intelligence agency, the cia. At this point, youre absolutely certain so why do you need more information, i guess, im confused. If youre so certain. Im confident in the reporting but i want to know how they came to the conclusion. Lets confirm the information, understand how they developed that but if youre understanding me to make a choice to defend our cia or defend russia, its an easy call and ill go with the cia every day. The letter said you could vote contrary to the votes of your constituencies and that youd be protected here. What is the procedure then . Well, my plan is to vote with the popular vote for the country. But the ultimate point here is that theres information that can be made available to us, to the american people, and this election was apaling in so many different ways. Its up to us, up to all americans to stand up where we can and to demand the information that should be available to people. The last question, since the letter was released and made public, have you seen more support from other electors . Not ready to discuss other republican electors at this point. Weve got just under a week until the vote, those negotiations and discussions are somewhat fragile and tenuous and ill let electors do so without characterizing our discussions, whether its about intelligence, violations of the emollients clause. They both are pretty much agreed on all the issues. I think the big question Going Forward is what kind of party should the Democratic Party end up being . And well see that playing out in the weeks ahead. Honestly, mark, weve been seeing that play out. It doesnt appear unless you could guide us through more information that the party is any closer to determining that. It really isnt, tamron, and to me, what president obama was able to signify and even howard dean when you ended up getting in the 2005, 2006, when he took over the dnc back then, it was, you know, the Democratic Party should be a big tent party. We should have policies that progressives from vermont should embrace to Democratic Candidates in North Carolina but i see this kind of Clinton Obama versus Bernie Sanders debate we saw play out during the primary season does go to pragmatism versus the kind of a more ideological commitment and i think that at the margins were going to see that play out in this thom perez versus Keith Ellison fight. Speaking of commitment here, you have some in the party who feel the dnc chair is a fulltime job, should not be a split job for the individual who emerges. Keith ellison said if he ends up being dnc chair, he will resign his congressional seat. I think you kind of throw that out and again, to me, the biggest issues are going to be this clinton vs. Bernie sanders divide but also a Sticking Point for Keith Ellison, more than being a fulltime dnc chair is really going to be some of the statements that he made about israel and that people have latched on to and whether or not there will be democrats and remember, the democrats who are the National Committee people who would be voting, whether they find that acceptable or not. In the case, cosby, of course is charged with drugging and sexually assaulting andrea con stad in 2004. The judge will decide whether or not 13 other women will be allowed to testify to establish a pattern of behavior. The constand case is the only criminal case facing cosby out of dozens on of kaelgss of Sexual Assault and even rape, all of this he denies. Nbcs chief legal correspondent, ari melber, is here. So ari, why is this so critical to this case moving forward against him. What the judge is hearing today is the most important thing we expect to happen in the runup to this criminal trial of bill cosby. And thats because, as you mentioned, it will determine whether its a he said she said trial. Whether its his words against one female accuser, which we know sometimes can be difficult for jurors to convict on, or whether they take the somewhat unusual step of adding in other accusers. The reason thats unusual is well put it up on the screen, pennsylvania, like many states, has a rule that basically says, you cant introduce evidence of prior bad acts, unless it goes to prove a purpose, like motive, opportunity, intent, preparation, or plan, knowledge, identity, absence of mistake or lack of accident. Thats a lot of legal words for the idea that you have to say more than just, he did bad things. Those bad things have to fit a pattern, tamron. And how does the cosby team fight this . Or what is they argument as to why these women should not be allowed to testify . Their argument is the jury is only being asked to decide one thing. What happened between these two people allegedly in 2004. And that it is prejudicial to their client to bring in a parade of other people whose claims will not ultimately be addressed or adjudicated. Ill show you cases that go both ways on this. It is so important. One case in 2015, an Appeals Court did allow evidence of prior bad acts, because it showed an accused rapist specifically preyed on women when he knew they were in a weakened or compromised state. That involved some really ugly allegations of a rapist who preyed on a woman after she had a blood transfusion, was weakened, and basically, the judges said that while we dont usually allow this other evidence, here it goes to your method, your pattern. The only other case ill show you goes a little bit of different direction. Commonwealth v. Mason, a judge allowed an incident of that a defendant preyed on his two teenage nieced, but refused to admit accusations that he also preyed on a older forest sister. Look, we can all agree that if true, preying on this other person is a terrible crime. What theyre going to say is that judge didnt allow that kind of evidence in, because it wasnt the issue the jury was supposed to decide. And i can tell you, as you know, in sex crimes cases, these are big battles, because we also see women accusers consistently denigrated and impugned when they come forward. So a lot of controversy here. This judge will have to decide whether other women, up to 13, could testify against bill cosby.
