You have exports of aircraft, exports of soybeans making their way to china ahead of the tariffs. Thats why you have seen the narrowing. As you know, a lot of nuances when you talk about the trade deficit. Not a lot when the administration talks about it. What contributes involves growth and a number of things to make it larger or smaller. The savings rate as well. It is a sign of how things have been. Last month, we are looking long term here. We are going to see effects the next couple months now that the tariffs are in place. Without getting into whacky details and people that dont follow economics closely, you mentioned growth differentials. If a country is growing at a different rate, theres a different inflation. Hes one of the more impactful members of the administration and leaves behind more than the legacy of headlines. Lets look at his legacy at the epa. He made rules to appeal rules that eliminated gas emissions from coal power plants. He announced it in kentucky saying the war against coal is over. He suspended a portion of the water rule which gives epa authority over certain small lakes and rivers. Some bristled because they were held responsible for runoff pollution. In a highprofile speech, he rolled back fuel efficiency standards. Pruitts justification, the standards were politically charged and too high. Lets not forget the most important decision, lobbying President Trump to withdrawal from the paris climate accord, a global agreement to fight Climate Change. You may notice a recuring theme here. Pruitt took steps toward a number of impactful decisions without ultimately following through. Thats where Andrew Wheeler comes in. Hes a former coal lobbyist. He has similar policies as most other top officials at the epa and in the white house. I think its important, in fact, to point out that Andrew Wheeler, who will be taking over as administrator could be more effective at repealing regulations. He is a longtime washington lobbyist and worked on capitol hill for james inhofe and epa. He knows the ins and outs of the regulations. He could be more effective than pruitt because we wont have the ethical standard scandals headlining. Something you wrote caught my eye. Wheeler is expected to run a more conventional and inclusive policy process even though the end result is similar to those of pruitt. What do you mean . One thing that upset people at the agency is administrator pruitt was exclusive with the way he was seeking advice and rolling out regulations, which is one reason hes not been as successful and as far along repealing the regulations because he hasnt been following protocol as much as before. You could call it, hes not a swamp creature, but not following the rules the swamp has been following for decades. Andrew wheeler is said to take the input of staffers more. That doesnt mean he will end up on a different spot, he wont. He will end up in the same spot as pruitt. Pruitt is skeptical on Climate Change being due to us. Hes not going to be as vocal about it. He said in his confirmation hearing to be deputy administrator of the administration. He has no intention of reviewing a 2009 scientific find thag confirms the mainstream Climate Science and the underpinning of the climate regulations. I anticipate that debate will fall to the background, even though he has similar skepticism as pruitt. We listed things secretary pruitt did or wanted to do. A lot didnt have follow through. At this moment, if theres a draft, we will take anybody, doesnt matter if you know english, have papers or not.
