Rounding up far right extremists we the dozens and following up on allegationses there may have been help by inside Law Enforcement. This year the pomp and circumstance will most definitely be overshadow fwid widespread measures currently being put in place. Plans for sunday had to be postponed due to safety concerns. More than 20,000 National Guard troops have been called into d. C. This week thats roughly four times as many troops currently in iraq and afghanistan. Additionally, the National Mall has been closed, 13 subway stations have been shuttered, and even airbnb has canceled all reservations in the beltway as this city hunkers down. But more threats of violence are not contained to washington, d. C. According to the fbi, all over the country state capitols face threats of their own amid Donald Trumps twomonth campaign to defraud the American People of their Fair Election results. In michigan, a state narrowly won in 2015 and nearly won in 2020. Sevenfoot fencing was involved around the Michigan State capitol and lansing city hall, and rumored demonstrations by the same dangerous far right hate groups responsible for so many other riots including the proud boys. Joining me live now from lansing michigan is dasha burns, a digital reporter for msnbc. Look, dasha. The state house isnt even in session. What do you expect to see today . Reporter yeah, tiffany. Since weve been here weve seen those security measures ramping up, that fence around the capitol. Weve seen a visible presence from the Michigan State police and theyll be joined by the National Guard. Theres been a statement issued. If you not do have a specific reason to be in the downtown area this weekend, please, stay away from this area. Officials tell me because of this history, theyre no strangers to these kinds of demonstrations. They feel confident theyll be able to handle anything that comes their way. But at the same time, tiffany, there does seem to be this sort of shift in mood, shift in climate since what we witnessed at the nations capitol on january 6th. I spoke to the chief of police here in lansing about that and his concerns. Take a listen. I am very concerned about the safety of our officers. What we saw on television reference the u. S. Capitol was just horrific, and i speak to you as a Law Enforcement official and also a member of the military, the navy reserves, and so for me it was difficult to watch. And our officers, i actually had a long communication with our officers, very concerning what we saw, particularly from that group that has really embraced this whole notion of Blue Lives Matter. Reporter and michigan, of course, is an open carry state and officials are expecting armed militia groups as well as other militia groups tomorrow, but earlier this week the michigan capitols commission banned open carry inside of the capitol, but some lawmakers say that did not go far enough because concealed carry is still allowed. Tiffany . That is quite scary, dash ya. Please stay safe and stay warm. I see the snow out there. We look forward to hearing more from you. Well check back if something pops off in michigan. Lansing, michigan, isnt the only capitol under siege by trump supporter who continues his baseless claims of leecz fraud. In minnesota, protesters are gearing up for a protest by last weeks insurrectionist rally at the capitol in st. Paul. According to newsweek, the emcee of last weeks rally said at the end of the event, quote, were going to fight, were going to go down, theres going to be casualties. That doesnt sound like a rally to me. And in nye, theres a letter claiming President Trump will still be president for the next four years. Spoiler alert. He wont. And the next 12 days will be something to tell the grandchildren. Its 1776 all over again, he says. Theyre calling for an fbi investigation as a result. Joining me now, the attorneys general for those two states. Keith ellison of minnesota and aron mcford of nevada, and msnbc security analyst clint watts. Aron, i want to start with you. First of all, the fact that theres an elected gop official sending out this kind of delusional rhetoric is kind of scary. I want to ask you. Have you seen anything that gives you cause to raise your temperature, raise the alarm on whats happening on the ground . First off, tiffany, congratulations on your show. Thank you, aron. Absolutely. To answer your question, what has given us pause is some of the contentioning coming out of nye county. We are prepared to address some of these issues as they arise. Let me ask you. Im curious about this. As attorney general of the state, whats your role in prosecuting people . Lets say if someone from your state was involved in this, do you have a role in bringing about justice . Well, it depends. Theres the division of labor. To the extent the long arm of the law in nevada, we will absolutely be pursuing those. But we are working with, again, our local Law Enforcement agencies and the local prosecutors like the d. A. S, but were also working with the federal government to ensure that whoever is engaging in this nonprotected speech, nonprotected activity will be held accountable. So keith ellison, i want to turn to you on this one. The fbi out of your state actually issued this alert and sounded the alarm, and they talked a lot about these Boogaloo Boys. I want to ask you, before this violent insurrection happened at the capitol, were the Boogaloo Boys on anybodys radar in minnesota . Yes. In fact, some of them were prosecuting criminally for violence that they did during the george floyd protest. So, again, many of the protesters were very violent, very well contained, very peaceful protesters, but there were some individuals who did very horrific violent acts, lighting Police Departments on fire. Theyre criminally prosecuted for that right now, some of them as far away as texas. Really they werent people who were part of raising the issue of george floyd. They were interveners, interlopers who were working to try to undermine the credibility of those particular protests. So, yeah, weve seen them, and weve seen others as well. Three percenters. There are a range of these groups that have been active. This is so bizarre. Were going to be talking later in the hour about online radicalization of some of these folks. This is quite scary. Clint, i want to turn to you on this. Some of the alerts were seeing from Law Enforcement, its like be careful from now until inauguration day. But the truth of the matter is its not over on inauguration day. Its pretty much a suicide mission. What do we do a week from now . A month from now . Six months from now . Thats exactly right. I honestly believe at this point what we saw happen at the capitol was just a harbinger of a series of events or series of events that well see over the next many months and even throughout the year. If you can think about what weve witnessed in these different groups, so, Boogaloo Boys who are trying to foe meant a second war, theyre going to embrace it. Theyre not going away. About these big moments. Youre showing pictures of a highly emblematic of that thought. There are militia groups. They should stand down because they see theres a large military and Law Enforcement presence in the capitol, but theyre not going to either. Theyre saying we need to take time, we need to wait. I think its going to be a massive challenge for the Biden Administration to try to unify people particularly if elected leaders try to foe meant this sort of chaos, if they continue to point. Weve been lucky in one sense during the pandemic that there have not been mass demonstrations. When we think about terrorism, id like to remind people and jump them back to the 1990s when we were talking about eric rudolph, timothy mcveigh, the atlanta and Oklahoma City bombings. Thats my big fear running through 2021. Let me just stick with you for a second. Its not like we didnt know White Supremacy was a problem. A lot of these folks subscribe to the White Supremacy ideology. Its not like the government hasnt issued warnings about this where they were intent on attacking congress. So what would you say to current Law Enforcement agencies, particularly at the federal level about taking these threats seriously and how do they take on these threats when it could be individuals or the masses . I would say ive watched the fbi over the last couple of years. There was a white supremacist shooting at a walmart in el paso. Absolutely. They have picked this up. Theyve arrested many connected to the Boogaloo Boys heading into the election. How many arrests have they done . Ive never seen a terrorism or extremism scenario where they had to do this many cases before then. Two weeks ago we were talking about the nashville bombing, which we still dont know why it occurred. And now theyre having to deal with the inauguration. Its a capacity issue because its just growing out there in the public. Growing like weeds across the country. I want to turn back to my attorneys general. Aaron, ill kick it to you first. I dont want to lose my amen corner, but let me ask you, how do attorneys general of these states who are prosecuting people who incite violence but also protect the legitimate rights of people just protesting. We should be clear about the clear line here. Youve got florida man, ron desantis, whos trying to Institute Laws that will proportion natalie impact black lives matter protests. How do we walk this fine line, and, aaron, what do you say . Tiffany, its a great question. Im glad you answered. The truth is not as dead as the death sea scrolls but it doesnt take a dead sea scholar to know the difference. You mentioned Boogaloo Boys a little earlier. Some bombs come in and try to infiltrate and coop it. Boogaloo boys came in with molotov cocktails, and they got caught. Others were coopted by violent protesters or rioters. As i have said at the very beginning, whether it was people addressed in militia attire on our states capitol, that they have the right to peacefully do that, whether it was a black lives matter protest, protesting in favor of blake lives, or whether it was people protesting on the capitol against an election they didnt like. If you violate the law, we will prosecute you. Thats good to know. Keith ellison, i school you the same question. How do you walk that fine line . I think its important to send a message to people who attend a protest that if you see someone with a weapon, if you see someone with an incendiary device, if you see someone waving a violent white supremacist flag or sending out a violent message, walk away from that. Be clear. These people are trying to use you to push forth violence. You who are there for a peaceful protest no matter what your cause is back away and say, i didnt show up for this. I would imagine theres a fair number of people who showed up at the capitol on january 6th who were told by the president that the election was stolen, but were only there to raise their voices. They got exploited, and the entire enterprise looked really bad when the violent folks used them. Yeah, absolutely. I want to punctuate again. Theres a difference between people protesting to protect their lives and people protesting because they didnt get their way. That one was a riot. Thank you, keith ellison, and aaron ford, and clint watts. Youll be back on the show, all three of you. Michigan is delivering some accountability. This week nine former government officials including exgovernor rick snider were charged in connection with the flint water crisis that killed 12 people and sickened 80 more with legionnaires disease. Theres only one reason that all across this country, various state capitols are on lockdown, and that reason, have no doubt about it, is donald trump. Now, a warning that some of the images youre about to see are very graphic, but just like the foreign terrorism that attacked this country on september 11th, lets never forget the domestic terrorism, the violence wreaked upon the nation last week when a real tv star rode the system of White Supremacy all the way to the white house and encouraged a mad maga riot at the u. S. Capitol. Five people died. Quite a few more were hurt. We found Trump Supporters assault a Police Officer with an american flag. You can see it right on your screen. In another ridiculous incident, one d. C. Police officer recounted being beaten with a Blue Lives Matter flag. This is where we are in our country. Those guardrails of our democracy are being contested. The business continues. That business including impeaching the 45th president of these United States, and also the first to ever be convicted in the senate if 17 public senators join democrats to vote yes. Thats a big if. Well see. When the second impeachment trial begins, the survivors of this trump survival snuks will be the jury. Joining us to talk about it is house impeachment manager joaquin castro. Congressman, im so happy to have you on the show. Thank you for joining us on a saturday. This impeachment trial is historymaking and youre making history by being the impeachment manager to present this trial to your upper chamber, your colleagues and the senate. Theyre going to need 17 republican senators to buy into this. Have you had any indication that any one of the republicans in tupper chamber, the senate, might be open to voting to remove donald trump . Ive been encouraged by some of the republican senators of the comments that have been made, but were trying to convince every one of them that donald trump is responsible for inciting a deadly insurrection against the United States government which was essentially a failed coup. We hope everybody puts country above another person, against donald trump. I said removed. Convicted. Hell be out of office by the time this impeachment trial begins. Let me ask you. What are you considering concerning your witness list . Might we hear from don junior . We all saw that video of don junior behind the stage laughing at the video camera with his girlfriend guilfoyle, all of these folks. Or could donald trump even himself be called . What do you say . I know a lot of folks are asking whos going to be part of the trial and how will it be conducted . All of those things will become more clear in a few weeks. Were still in the preparation stage, so i cant give you a witness list. Most of all, everything we do wants to be aimed at getting message across to the senators that donald trump has to be held for inciting this deadly insurrection. What it is, we want to make sure we make the strongest case possible so they vote to convict. Have you had any indication on who is going to be defending donald trump . Theres some reporting that it will be john eastman who spoke at the rally. He was recently fired from the university. He defended donald trump in multiple ridiculous voter fraud cases across the country. Have you been able to hear anything if hell be part of the defense team, or do you have any idea who it would be. I have no idea who the president is going to be able to hire or get to defend him in this case. Let me ask you. Some of the reporting has insinuated that well hear from, like i said, make Donald Trumps family. I know you guys are still considering that. During the last impeachment trial, i watched congressman Hakeem Jeffries and adam schiff respond in realtime. They responded with a rhetoric. I said it was like watching the practice, a david e. Kelly tv series. I know you guys are still in the process. Its nine of you. Have you figured out whos going to present the case and whos going to respond to some of the allegations that may come from the defense . As you can imagine, were in those discussions now. Weve been gathering, talking a lot, preparing. The house just voted to impeach just a few days ago, and so were getting ready. But this is a great group of folks from the congress, myself, and eight other people, and we will be ready to go when the trial starts. So this time around compared to the last impeachment trial, democrats will be in control, if the two new senators from georgia are seated, which i think will happen on january 22nd, though Vice President elect Kamala Harris will be over the senate along with chuck schumer. How will it be different compared to last time when republicans controlled the upper chamber. Most of the time what you seek any time you present in a trial is fairness in ruling. Thats what we hope for. Look. This is different obviously from the last impeachment in terms of the substantive issue. Its one article of impeachment and its very clear. It has to do with the fact that the president s words incited peoples actions to complete a deadly insurrection at the United States capitol. And i think once we lay out all the evidence, the americans and people will see very clearly you have to hold this president responsible for his words and also his actions some of thats what were going to work toward. I want to ask you because youre vice chair of Foreign Relations committee in the house, and i find it very interesting that we have this very diverse team of managers who will be trying this president who we saw in the last four years and last few decades whos quite friendly to White National list ideology. What does it say on the global stage that this Diverse Group of impeachment managers who, quite frankly, look like america will be trying this white president. Youre right. I just terminated out of my vice chair duty. We only get to serve one term. This is a Stellar Group of folks im honored to be working along with my other eight colleagues. re right. It represents the diversity of the country. I hope this impeachment and cop vicz shows to the world american democracy is working the quay it should. Weve gone around the world as a country for generations and asked governments to set up democracy that respects the rule of law, and now other nations are looking at us and asking us whether this president will be held responsible for committing a deadly or inciting a deadly insurrection. In other words, will american democracy work the way that it should . And i believe at the end of the day, well be able to show them that it will. All right. Thank you so much, congressman joaquin castro. Well definitely be watching. Please come back. The americans will have questions for you. My name is rich from california. I have a question about the upcoming inauguration. I was wondering if in light of this riotous member that invaded the capitol, if they continue to disrupt events incluing the inauguration itself and also in light of the covid pandemic with its social restrictions and avoidance of social gathering, if you think it would be a good idea and constitutionally possible for president elect joe biden to hold the inauguration and his inaugural speech in virtual format only. Rich, thank you for that great question, and i love that deep red background, by the way. Youll have to tweet me later and tell me what color that paint is. First, its totally digital and subjective. Personally, yes, i think its a great idea to make as much of the inauguration as virtual as possible. Stay home, people, which brings me to the second part of your question. Is it constitutionally possible. Again, the short answer is yes. The constitution spells out duo things about president ial inaugurations. First, according to article 2, section 1, clause 8, before taking office, the president mutt solemnly swear to execute the office and preserve and protect and defend the constitution of the United States, and then theres the 20th amend which sets the start date and time for a new president s term, january 20th, at noon. Fun facts. Before that amend was ratified in 1933, the inauguration wasnt held until march 4th, which makes for one helluva lame duck. Constitutionally speak, all president elect bide hans to do is take the oath at noon on january 20th. Thats it. Pretty much Everything Else is based on tradition like the supreme justice conducting the oath or the outgoing president leaving d. C. By helicopter bye or a virtual inauguration could totally pass muster. As to what the actual ceremony will look like this wednesday, well, between the pandemic and the potential for a repeat of that violent insurrection ten days ago, the plans are pretty much still in flux. Some things will look the same. President elect biden is planning to take the oath outside at the capitol and give his inaugural address, but the National Mall, the largest space in d. C. Has already been shut down, which means no crowds, big or small. Theres no parade down pennsylvania avenue and no inaugural galas. Al though, there is a primetime special hosted by tom hanks that you can watch right here on ill definitely be tuned in. Thanks so much, rich. Stay tuned. Coming up well have Cedric Richmond. Algorithms and politicians are getting so good at creating fake news, theyre absorbing it into reality. Its as though we have less control over who we are and what we believe. After any major terrorist attack, we talk about radicalization. How are these people so radicalized that they became willing to commit political violence. For the perpetrators of last weeks capitol insurrection, its lies, including the belief that this country is theirs exclusively. Now, that lie is likely planted in their heads very easterly, but it is watered, nurtured, and grown online where it spreads like weeds. Joining me to discuss this more is april glacier, jeff roy now ski of the social dilemma, and jamar tis by, author of the book how to fight racism. April, my friend, i want to start with you. Youve been studying this and following it for your a long time iechlts not like the government said White Supremacy is a problem and the fbi flagged it as a danger, but it did seem to spread online very quickly. Call some of these folks by names . Who are some of the organizations, hashtags, and how did they convene so rapidly. Luckily right now, social media has taken action after january 6th to remove some of the hashtags or make them harder to find or take some of the bigger accounts down. Before january 6th, stop the steal, which was like a large group on facebook had some 350,000 followers. It was only then facebook took it down on november 5th. So we saw these groups amass large platforms for years and years and only recently did we see them take action against trump. These were not hard to find hashtags. Qanon wasnt hard to find. They were on mainstream plat performance. They had hundreds of thousands of followers, but they were also congregating in places where video users chat like discord. Journalists like me would call it out. Sometimes they would take the chat rooms down. Sometimes they wouldnt. More recently were seeing them act more readily. Its going to be harder to find these groups now. Before the past, it was easy. Theyre encouraging distrust of the inaugural process right before our show today. Wow. So let me ask because some of these organizations are global white supremacist organizations. So is it that these global organizations are, you know, ill fill traiting the u. S. . You know infiltrating our process, or are these organizations starting in the u. S. And spreading out . Its not that theyre starting in the u. S. Or spreading out or that theyre coming from other countries. Its that theyre incredibly popular in the u. S. Yes, some of these groups, of course do, have groups in europe or maybe theyre in the philippines or, you know, because thats where the owners of these groups are based, but theres no question that theyre very, very, very popular in the United States and thats what matters. And what also matters is that these social networks have been eminently aware, incredibly aware of how big they are, how much theyve grown, and have done very, very lit toll stop it until we saw a mob storm the capitol. The social dilemma kind of freaked me out. The thing is its not like it wasnt a bunch of information we didnt know. It was seeing all the information before our eyes. I was texting with our producer who put this block together. It was very scary to see all of that condensed that way. So ill ask you. One of the things in the social dilemma that kind of put this all in perspective, one of the people said if youre using a product and youre not paying for that product, then you are the product. So really we are the product that they keep feeding these ideologies to. How do we address this problem when these are, you know, home grown American Companies that provide safe haven for some of these organizers . Is it even possible to win this game of whackamole when it comes to White Supremacy . What youre getting to is the fundamental part of big problem of it. Theyre incentivized to increase volume, increase content. They just want more stuff to flow through the pipes. Iffer a long time, theyve been very, very handsoff and theyve had no filter and allowed anything to come through. Its their business model. It is their profits. I think big social needs to be held accountable. Well, theyre trying. Theyre a little late for it. I have to admit, im culpable too. On commercial breaks im on my phone and checking. I feel like pewky from new jack city. I want to turn to you because these weird convergence of right fringe folks and evangelicals theyre called, its just kind of crazy because god is not a god of confusion if you believe. Hes not telling you one thing and me another. So its kind of weird to see white evangelicals and theyre going to outcollision black folks across the country. Its not going to happen. What do you say about the hate of these evangelical organizations under the guise of jesus . What i would call it is Christian Nationalism which expands far beyond evangelicalism which includes protestants and even some clicks. What happens is theyll take christian signs and symbols and imbue them with different meanings. At the insurrection we saw jesus is our savior. We had people praying before the riot and the insurrection. What theyre doing is prom mull gating an equity know religious ideology that essentially says the United States and the church are united and the success of the nation is tied to the success of the church, and what we need do is promote this vision of christianity as american, as white, preferably at prot stand and socially and significantly conservative. I should say most continue to approve of trumps Job Performance even as we saw kids in cages, even as we saw pockets of violence pop up across this country. So we have to acknowledge that. April, ill turn it back to you. Why do you think these two factions have overlapped . Well, its hard to this is not my specialty as to why, you know, these groups have overlapped, but what i will say is that they have found a Significant Community online, right . When they go online and they have a grievance, and they type it into a search bar, its really easy for them to find hundreds of thousands of views, and you say, oh, this must be really popular because these people agree with me. They keep watching it. And youtube sends them another video which confirm as what the last video said and it keeps on going and going and going. Then they go on facebook and somebody says something outlandish which actually comports with their shared view and they keep sharing it, and it becomes the truth to them, right . The fact of the matter is theyre able to find community that substantiates their beliefs, and right now a lot of those beliefs are leading to violence, right . A lot of those beliefs are saying, hey, whats happening right now politically is not legitimate, and we need to do something violent to stop that because what we believe is actually legitimate, and all these people agree with us. That is what is so dangerous right now. You know, people have been calling it out for so long. Social Media Companies have noun theres been a very clear path to radicalization on all platforms for so long and have done very, very lit toll stop it. Its only when, you know, theres a big fire. Jeff orlowski, your film gets into this. Were out of time. Really quickly, jeff, are you on social media . I stopped using all social media. I look at it as a toxic landscape. I get my news and information from news sources. I dont want an al go rhythmic feed of what i see and what im supposed to. Well have you come back. I was going to suggest an i. G. Life. I thought jeff is probably not on it. Im trying to get off the crack pipe myself. The social media certainly helps. Thank you april glacier, jeff orloski and jemar tisby. But all this morning people are suffering, and wondering how to address the plethora of problems we all face as a nation. And that brings us to a very unveiled, ambitious agenda. President biden unveiled the details of the plan just this week. Including direct 1,400 payment to individuals, on top of the 600 in december. Increase in Unemployment Benefits to 400 as well as increase in federal minimum wage until 15 an hour. 350 billion in aid for state and local governments for members that was an issue last time, 470 billion towards reopening School Safely and extension to the eviction moratorium. Bidens American Rescue plan also sets aside 50 billion for covid testing, 20 billion for a National Vaccine plan and another 10 billion for pandemic supplies. Mind you, this is all going to land in the senates lap if it passes through the house. And even though the newly Democraticcontrolled Senate will be key to bidens agenda, the senate is also going to be busy juggling time for an impeachment trial and confirming members of bidens cabinet. But the millions of americans in need simply cannot wait on congresss schedule. Joining me now to discuss this and a lot more is cochair of the Biden Harris Transition Team and incoming director of the White House Office of public engagement, Senior Adviser to the president and a morehouse man, congressman Cedric Richmond. Congressman, im so happy to have you on the show. Thank you very much for making time this saturday. I want to drop right to it because so many people across this country are suffering. Let me ask you, with this agenda the senate is going to be controlled by democrats but you do have people who are more centric, and you have folks like senator joe manchin out of west virginia, whos already saying he doesnt support additional individual payments to struggling americans. Can this very ambitious agenda Pass Congress . Yes, it can. Look, this is not about president elect joe biden, this is not about an administration, this is about the American People. So you have 1. 4 Million People file unemployment claims just last week. You have 18 Million People still on unemployment and the economy lost 140,000 jobs last month. Were in a crisis and i think that the elected officials will understand that and i think the people will help the elected officials understand the crisis that theyre in economically and that theyre going to demand action. And were going to provide it. So thats why we find ourselves. Let me ask you because joe biden said he wants to work with republicans, he wants buyin from republicans that he and majority leader now, mitch mcconnell, soon to be minority leader, talk more often than people know. Is he overly optimistic about working with republicans . You know, you were around during the obama years. Hes offered opinions about how republicans were obstructionists to obamas agenda. Is he anticipating anything like that during his administration . I think you can be optimistic but at the same time have the force and wear with all to soldier through it if you get obstruction. Right now were putting the American People first and were going to make that argument to democrats and republicans that we need to act, we need to act now, we need to be bold because families are hurting. And so thats our focus and so were going to make that message to everybody who has a vote in the United States congress. And let me ask you, as coming in as director of our leading office of ope, what role will you have in convincing your former colleagues in pushing this agenda through . Look, ill do whatever the president elect asks me to do. I will help mobilize groups and organizations and constituencies to put pressures on members of congress to make their voices heard, to let members of Congress KnowAmerican Families are hurting. Theyre juggling so many things at the same time and they need government to partner with them, to help them, to lift themselves up. Because this pain, this economic disaster, is above the capacity of many American Families right now and thats the obligation of government to help. I can make that argument to members of congress, i can make it to groups and organizations and different constituencies. And were going to do everything we can to make sure that everyone hears the American People. I want to ask now too because the senate is going to be really busy. Given that, do you anticipate that this president will exercise his executive order power as did his predecessors . And if hes going to use executive orders, what do you think he might use them for . He is going to use executive order, but unlike the past president , hes going to limit his executive orders to things that are constitutional. And so you will see him with an aggressive, first ten or so days using his executive authority. But the other thing i will say, and i have many friends in the United States senate, you see American Families right now juggling three, four, five things every day. And we would just hope that the senate can file a suit like ordinary, hardworking americans every day. Everything that theyre balancing so we can put our National Security people in place and protect the homeland. Put other cabinet secretaries in place so we can start delivering for the American People. And so and pass economic relief. So we have an ambitious agenda. Were not apologizing for it. We just want our elected officials to come along with us. Yes, i hear you. You do have an ambitious agenda and a lot on your plate you will be placing. We just found out there are not enough vaccinations on reserve. The last administration have been pretty missing in action when it comes to addressing this coronavirus. I know that your friend and colleague, majority whip congressman clyburn, suggested waiting 100 days, like get through the first 100 days before pursuing impeachment. Some suggest president elect biden is not excited about having an impeachment trial as he takes office. Can you tell us where you buys stand on where the democrats in the house or senate in congress are pursuing the second impeachment trial . Look, the president elect is laser focused on helping families recover, making sure that we get 100 million vaccinations out in the first 100 days. Make sure there are 100 Million People willing to put those vaccinations in their arms. Making sure we establish more places that we can give out vaccinations to make sure we have mobile clinics so we dont leave any communities behind. Thats what the president elect is focused on, making sure we recover from the Health Crisis we have and economic crisis. And so his position is we have to do a bunch of things at once, and hes going to do his part by leading and understanding the pain that the American People are in. And asking congress and the senate to help with those disasters. So thats his focus and as a former member of congress, because yesterday was my last day, i think congress and i know the talented people there, many of which are my friends, they can do multiple things at once and no one cares about the American People like the democrats that i know in the house and the senate. All right, thank you so much congressman. I know the people of the big easy will miss having you in congress, but you wont be far. Youll be right in the executive branch helping to get this agenda passed. You have a permanent invitation on this show, sir. Thank you so much for joining me. Im bringing in some of your old colleagues now. Joining me now, a panel of representatives, congressman judy chu, chairman of the Asian American pacific caucus, chairman Sharice Davis of kansas, who is a member of the native american caucus. Congressman raul rius, chair chair of the has spannic caucus and congresswoman shar blady. Folks look at your screen, those folks represent the rising majority in america. This is what america looks like. So happy to have all of you guys with me. Congresswoman beatty, i want to start with you. You heard your former colleague, congressman richmond, talk about his agenda. He talked about members of congress who could help push legislation or help stop it. Do you think this agenda that biden put forth has a good chance of passing, what way will you offlay to make sure it does . I absolutely think we do have the ability to pass his agenda. Much has been coming from what weve been advocating for a long time. As congressman, now Senior AdviserCedric Richmond said, democrats care about the American People. Aas the chairman of the democratic black caucus, we will be very active. We will be coming into the 117th congress with 60 members strong. So when we talk about our platform, we also have a strong relationship with my colleagues here today, the tricaucus. We will be supportive of the 2,000 increase for citizens. That came out of the democratic caucus, came out of the Congressional Black Caucus advocating for it. When you talk about housing and s. N. A. P. And you talk about moratoriums on mortgages and you talk about not having people evicted, we also know there are disparities. Covid19 has to be a top priority. Black folks make up 13 of national population, yet when you look at the death rates, were much higher numbers there. I can go down on this the same for economic development, minority businesses, 41 of black businesses are in trouble because of the economic and certainly we all know what the injustices are. We witnessed some of that in the last week with the attack on our democracy. So we will stand with president elect, soon to be President Biden and Vice President elect Kamala Harris, who is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and has been very active with us. Congresswoman davis, i want to turn to you. As i was preparing for this interview, i did talk to some folks on the hill about you specifically. Some of the feedback i got, its not just your presence on capitol hill, its how you challenge conviction. Its how you think. Its how you reshape how we view native american policy in this country. So im very happy to have you make your debut on this show. And i want to ask you how this agenda will help form agenda on specifically indian native communities. We have a global plague, people suffering, getting kicked out of their homes. The native American Community is certainly being disproportionately impacted by this. How do you see this addressing some of those challenges . Im glad to be here. Im particularly glad to be here with my colleagues today who have i just want to make sure that Everybody Knows that the tricaucus currently tricaucus plus two, although deb holland is our nominee for the department of interior, were all very proud of her. But colleagues that i get to join here today have really helped make sure that at no point natives been left out of the conversation. And as often used to being the only native american person in the room, it warms my heart to know not only my democratic colleagues in the house but also president elect biden and Vice President elect Kamala Harris have really put at the forefront this idea of making sure were at the table having the conversations that are going to raise awareness about the invisibility of native populations but also the the horribly underfunded Indian Health service. The ability to get vaccinations to the places they need to go. Part of the strength of whats happening here today, not in just these conversations, conversations that are going to go forward is we recognize we are all connected in this. And we have got to support each other in making sure marginalized communities and traditional underserved communities are included and theyre thought about and we approach this with an equitable lens. Yes, something that congresswoman deb holland, as you mentioned, shes bidens nominee to lead the department of interior, something folks on capitol hill said she says, it doesnt matter where you flew here from, you flew over native land. No matter where you came from. So seeing her lead the department of interior will certainly set i think a new course on how the administration engages what the native American Community, as i said, is disproportionately impacted by a lot of challenges in the country. Congresswoman chu, i want to turn to you. Congratulations on being elected on capitol hill. I know theres been a lot of discord in the community about lack of representation in this administration. Theres no person of asianamerican descent who is leading a federal agency. So how can the administration make good on that . Is it from a policy perspective, from a staff diversity perspective in terms of senior staff . What do you say to this administration, particularly if your former colleague is still watching the show. We were very disappointed there was not an api appointed to the cabinet secretary when we had a cabinet secretary in both republican and democratic administrations for the last 20 years. However, i do have to say i was very, very grateful and heartened because weve got support from the tricaucus plus two. And together we issued a letter saying that this needs to be done, and that kind of support makes a huge difference. Nonetheless, we are continuing with our efforts to make this administration more relative of all people, including aapis, Asian Americans, because we deserve to have a seat at the table where these decisions are being made. So we will continue our efforts. In the meanwhile, were so heartened though that the biden American Rescue plan will, in fact, address communities of color. We have been waiting for this for a long time. He has a billion dollars for Community Outreach for the vaccine, and for our communities, the api community, which is linguistically and culturally sometimes isolated, it is so important to have that outreach if were going to make sure that all of america is vaccinated. Yes, and weve got to start disaggregating data when it comes to the asianAmerican Community as well. The fastest performing demographic in the country and represents more than 20 Million People in this country. So very happy to have you weigh in there. Congressman ruiz, youre a regular on the show at this point. Thank you very much for being here again with the asianamerican caucus. But something that has fallen off the radar is nearly the 600 million orphan the Trump Administration played a heavy hand in. There are still children because of the separation policy that are still out there. Have you had any conversations with the Biden Administration about how that will be addressed and other things you would like to see the administration address as relates to the Hispanic Community . We just saw the officer of Inspector General release a report clearly demonstrating that the separation of children with a new policy under the zero tolerance policy under President Trump, and they intentionally used that trauma to children in order to cause punishment, harm as a way to deter other migrants from coming in. I believe thats a crime against u manatee and i will continue those conversations to see how we can charge all of them because all of their hands are guilty for that, including those who recently stepped away from the administration during after the january 6th attack, but they stayed with the administration when they were calling lifelong mental torture for these children for the rest of their lives. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus really led the way to make sure we push for more humane treatment of Asylum Seekers than we had a fair and just earned pathway to citizen for immigrants and that we consider the hardships that this pandemic has had on pandemic communities throughout. Let me be clear, all of us, everybody on this screen has shared experiences of racial injustices, shared experiences of discrimination, shared discriminations of obstacles to health care that produced the conditions that we see where our communities are dyeing at an alarming higher rate. Were transmitting the virus at an alarming higher rate, especially to our family members. All of the provisions were fighting for are shared determination for social justice so all of our communities because its not about black, white, asian, native american, all of our communities need a shot to stay safety, healthy and survive this pandemic together. So were in a collaborative building mode to make sure the biden rescue plan is implemented in an equitable fashion because all of us share the experience of this devastating pandemic and all of us will share the experience of pursuing social justice as we build back better. Well, i certainly hope we can make this a regular panel. Like i said, you all control a significant portion of lawmakers on capitol hill and you certainly are a microcosm of what the country looks like. So its been a delight having the chairs of the tricaucus plus two here, and you all have a permanent invitation to come back any time. Thank you very much, congresswoman judy chu, jongwoman sharice davids, congressman beatty and congressman ruiz. Dont go anywhere because coming up, breaking news on the investigation into Law Enforcement and their involvement on this capitol hill riot. We made usaa insurance for members like martin. At least 13 offduty Law Enforcement officials are now suspected in taking part in the riot, a number that can still grow in the days and weeks to come. The post also found according to sir social media accounts, at least 109 officers attended the rally that led to the riot with some joining the mob that actually stormed the capitol. Under a dozen Police Officers are also under investigation for potentially assisting the mob. Cbs news is working to confirm this information, so joining me now is nbc news Senior Investigative reporter anna scheckter. Anna, tell me, what do we know . Well, 13 is a big number for those who actually stepped onto the capitol and broke the law. Its really ironic actually donald trump positioned himself as a defender in blue going back to his campaign. And so to have this riot result in the injury of officers and even the death of a capitol Police Officer is truly tragic. You see there on screen, thats a screen shot of someone wearing Tactical Gear. Its been interesting, since january 6th, me and my colleagues and members of the Intelligence Community and analysts who track extremism have been working tirelessly to try to identify people. You had hundreds of livestreams and photos to go through. There you see on screen, thats someone wearing Tactical Gear with the plastic restraint. These are things normal people dont usually have on them on hand. Immediately there was a lot of suspicion, wait a minute, it looks like these people have Tactical Experience from the military or Law Enforcement. Clearly that is being proven to be true. You also see dismayed Police Chiefs in various states across the country acknowledging unfortunately they found members of their forces were in an offduty capacity actually involved in this. There is sizable support for donald trump in the Law Enforcement community, but Something Like that on screen, that really crosses a line and is extremely troubling and the process to continue to i. D. People is ongoing. We also have to be careful, there have been some misidentifications of people on twitter and they go viral and its very distressing to people who are misidentified as being part of this. Yeah, anna, were going to be talking about that later in the hour. My colleague dr. Jason johnson and i. You will remember, dayne, the attempted kidnapping of the michigan governor, governor gretchen whitmer, when we saw Law Enforcement talk about these attempted kidnappers as theyre old friends. We know these guys. We will have to wait and see what happens. If only anybody got that benefit of the doubt. I certainly thing this incident put disparities of our system front and center. Thank you, anna, for putting perspective here. We will certainly have you back as you continue to investigate this and let us know what other things you uncover. Thank you very much. Com quite frankly, its shocking to see members of the congress when the capitol is under siege by a deadly mob of thugs refuse to wear masks while theyre in secure locations. Im so proud of my congresswoman right here in the state of delaware, trying to hand out masks why people are lying on the floor huddled up and her republican colleagues refusing to put them on, what the hell is the matter with them . Its time to grow up. In the ten days since the superspreader incident, at live five lawmakers tested positive for covid. Democrats in congress are fed up with maskless gop colleagues recklessly exposing them to a deadly virus. So now House Speaker pelosi is coming from that paper. She dropped the hammer earlier this week by imposing new fines for rule breakers. 500 for the first strike, 2,500 for the second, for everyone caught bare faced on the Chamber Floor and shes snatching it straight from their house salaries. Joining me now, Connie Coleman watson from new jersey, who tested positive for the coronavirus after shaking shelter with these maskless republicans with the riot and dr. Madillia from the boston medical hospital and msnbc contributor. Congresswoman, let me start with you. How are you feeling . Thank you for having me. Actually, i feel well. I just have the symptoms of a cold. It hasnt changed at all, no fever. Im very, very fortunate. You look like youre feeling well and im very happy to hear that. I want to ask you about your colleague, who Vice President biden just referenced, lisa blount attempting to hand out masks to some republican colleagues. Much they were quite dismissive laughing at her, waving her off as she was trying to hand them these masks. Were awe witness to that . Were you close by when you saw her handing out the masks . Do you have any idea why they refused . So i could see her and then a little bit after she had tried to distribute them, she and i were talking and she said, i was just trying to hand them the masks, ask them if they wanted a new mask or if they wanted a mask, and she said, you know, they were refusing them. I cant imagine there having been approached by anybody nicer and kinder and more loving that lisa blunt rochester. But i didnt actually see them sort of sneering at her or anything like that, but i could see them down the way from me down the room trying to go from member to member that didnt have or person to person, that didnt have a mask on. It just makes no sense to me that they would be so callous and disrespectful. But it isnt lost on me that theyre also, you know, the Republican Caucus is principally responsible, i believe, with why we were there in the first dog gone place, because had it not been the challenges to the electoral vote coming in from states that had legitimately counted, recounted, again counted and verified the outcome of this election, had it not been for the president of the United States inciting this and his minions encouraging along with that, we would not have had to huddle up like that. That was a disgusting situation. Yes, it was baffling and very disturbing to see antimask, antiscience, antidemocracy, antimasks. So i concur, congresswoman. So doctor bhadelia, let me turn to you on this. You see people on the house floor are getting fixed and now we find out there was no reserve of extra vaccine, weve run short. Can you tell us what the hell happened there . Yes, and congresswoman, im really glad to hear youre feeling more or less well and my wish is for a speedy recovery. Tiffany, i think this is a string of events that weve seen from when we started a distribution of vaccines. We heard this week the Trump Administration administration is releasing extra reserve doses and part of why they were doing that is because the cdc was recommending everyone over 65 with comore itis should be distributed. And thats a good idea. Sometimes the stringent guideline is calling confusion or hearing stories doses are wasted. So the idea both the criteria would open up and there might be more doses in reserves made sense. Hearing now this mismatch from secretary azar, outgoing secretary azar, that there is in fact not a reserve will, again, cause confusion. What im looking for is a much, much closer tied federal response for vaccination distribution along with state response. And president elect biden yesterday presented that plan, which is going to help with not just putting that effort in for manufacturing but also building the resources that will help states distribute and making sure that we do that in an inexable manner. Let me ask you because one of the Congress Members that contracted the virus by the violent raid was congressman espaid from new york. The interesting thing is he got the vaccination, both doses, and still contracted the virus. He was scheduled to join us, wasnt feeling well understandably because hes battling covid19. How scientifically did that happen . I know it prepares your system to help attack the virus but can you explain how hes under the weather after getting both vaccines . Yes, tiffany, and theres a lot of current confusion around this as well. What generally happens is if youre exposed to this virus, the cells in your airwaves are infected by the virus and then the virus uses your own body to replicate itself and causes disease and breaks havoc. What the vaccine does, exactly as he said, someone like me who has gotten two doses of vaccine has been given enough time to build an immune response, you now have an army much more ready to respond. So the virus now i get exposed to the virus now, the chances that i may get asymptomatic disease would be much, much lower. But real in trials you have seen some people who might get some mild symptoms but mostly, majority, 95 efficacy, people do not get symptoms. However, they may still get enough of the infection so the virus replicates in their airwave and it might be positive on tests. Thank you very much, dr. Bhadelia and congresswoman bonnie coleman, im so happy you could join us and happy to see you surviving being subjected to the coronavirus by your republican colleagues. Look forward to seeing you getting well and putting this behind you. Coming up more on the role with the police and what they played at the insurrection at the capitol. Ction at the capitol its been if its shown members of congress were accomplices to this insurrection, if they aided and abetted the crime, then there have to be actions taken beyond the congress in terms of prosecution for them. Capitol police say they are investigating the possibility some members of Congress Gave what democrats have alleged were reconnaissance tours. Either by letting rioters run free or by either taking part themselves. But heres the headline, folks, this has always been an inside job, from the Edmund Pettus bridge where police beat bloody the citizens they were charged to protect to Standing Rock reservation, where Law Enforcement attacked native americans fighting to protect sacred grounds and clean water, and for the many black lives matter protests we saw this summer. Joining me to talk about this is Morgan State University politics and journalism professor dr. Jason johnson, whos been peeking his head in here during the commercial breaks. Happy to have you on this panel. Look, neither you nor i, in our group chat, weve never been expressing sentiments of surprise. What, you dont say, the police are in on it . The police moved barricades and letting them in . Were like yeah, have you not been listening to us the past couple of years . This happens. What are your thoughts . You know, i want to tell some of these members of congress and some of these political analysts shot, sometimes be your own people. Why do you think the police why are you shocked that the police are involved in this kind of behavior . Weve not just seen it, but this is not new. We can go all the way back, i give him a lot of credit, former senator john mccain who passed away, in 2008 john mccain was pushing for legislation to keep people from joining the military and Police Departments who were caught with White Nationalists and whies supremacist symbolism and tattoos on their body. Hes like it shouldnt just be black street gangs. We need to look for White Nationalists too. Stormfront, these neonazi groups that encourage people to join arm forces to get the skills to one day fight their White Nationalist race civil war. This isnt new. The question is going to be, is our federal government or our state governments willing to prosecute these people for violating their own to protect the public the same way they want to prosecute black people for keeping themselves safe and not be shot for being black and unarmed in your house. Something that happened this week, attorney general cliff shanz, first black woman to be ag in new york, shes naming names for Police Officers she feels use Excessive Force at some of the black lives matter protests in new york and she even names mayor de blasio in this. Do you think we will see more justice like that take place across the country . Unfortunately, tiffany, no. There are not that many tisch james. Thats why we talk about her so much. Absolutely. We wish there were more attorneys like that, we wish there were more district attorneys. And weve seen oftentimes when africanamericans, district attorneys try to engage in these kind of reforms, theres often amount of pushback from unions, politicians, sometimes cowardly individuals who think they can benefit from allowing that kind of violence to continue. I think this is i dont like using the term reckoning over and over again because it is something weve been talking about, but you cant keep this incoming government safe if you cant trust the men and women who are supposed to be protecting me. Everybody out there is not going to be eugene goodman. Every cop out there is not someone who believes in democracy. Some are just committed to the White Nationalist insurrection as trump himself. And lets be honest about that finally, instead of being received as shifty when weve been declaring this for a long time. You and i talked about this when i was writing my book, and the fact in the years leading up to the 2016 election, 2,300 elected prosecutors nationwide were not black. I mean most of the people who were making decisions about how were going to be prosecuted were white men. They were making decisions whether to press charges, not press charges. We see what happens when the media started covering this whole situation with more nuance, we saw an influx. Marilyn mosby in baltimore around the freddie gray case, kim foxx in illinois. I hear you. I just wonder now that its just not Law Enforcement officers, its lawmakers. You have lawmakers on capitol hill bypassing, Walking Around metal detectors. They welcomed a qanon supporter believer into their membership ranks. Where do we go from here . Im literally terrified about where we go from here. Where we go to is what our mutual friend ellie missile said last week on the show. Weve got the laws and protections in place thats can prevent these sorts of strategies from happening. We just have to see the law applied to white people as it always is to black folks. If youre a Police Officer caught engaging in seditious activities, you should get fired from your job. The police shouldnt protect you. If youre causing encouragement of a riot, you should be expelled. This is not far right or left. This is not silencing spree speech or keeping anybody from having ideology. You can be a black hating racist person all you want but the moment you break the law is where youre helding accountable. And these tours that were supposedly walking through the beforehand and Ayanna Pressley had panic buttons ripped out, this is what they need to be investigated for. Were out of time. What are you doing after the show . Can you go live with me to instagram after the show . Apparently im going live. I have no choice. You got nothing to do. Were going to go live. Just historically the first africanamerican woman in this high level of government. In say it louder i wrote about newsrooms and lack of it what stories are told and how theyre told. Luckily, this starting to guess on. This week Nbc Universal launched be nbc u academy to bring diversion to colleges with specific asian and indigenous populations. Joining us for the journalist of color, host and creator of the podcast our body politics feri, you set twitter on fire this week, girl you talked about your time at 530. You named nate silver as someone who was summarily dismissive, every angle that you took that had anything to do with race. Tell us about your experience, if you can, very briefly. Yes, absolutely, tiffany. Great to see you. So i covered voter demographics for 538 during the last election and i called nate silver out on twitter for essentially suppressing supporting racial resentment as voter motivator and also generally White Nationalism. If you look at his twitter thread, it ends, i kept adding to it with a White Reporter who said his stories on race were suppressed too. So this is not about my race, its about the race of americans of color as we interact with politics. This is also not about nate silver. I actually went internally two different times, im not just here to put people on blast. I kind of gave people a chance. I talked to him privately, i talked to the company twice. We have to do better. People are dyeing. Thats why this matters. My neighbor in the Crown Heights died because we did not fulfill our duty as reporters to report on the racial representation of our people. Its been years since you tweeted that out, years, decades. You tweeted that out and you said if people in color had more editorial power and more editorial decision making, we wouldnt be here. I think thats so true in every case.
