Rogers prior to her passing and i remember initialing we proposed it was a mixed project including 40 percent of the units affordable to low income residents. This was a program that was favored by ms. Rogers and many in the community but in the end the agency wanted them to be condo. We met with ms. Rogers to discuss the change laughter shall i pray now . laughter she agreed to support the project spitting of her own personal desires to see something of significance to be developed in the western edition by black folk as rooerd townsend refers to us and she supported our efforts to support that project. The connection of those two points in history for me is the recognize that i follow the path into business and for that was with regarded with the opportunity to work on this project. To create a one hundred affordable senior units in the western edition dedicated to mary rogers pr im eternally grateful for the opportunity to witness her leadership and her passion and her commitment that she dated in working for this community. I want to read a brief list of the folks who helped to make this project happen and to recognize the numerous individuals and thank them for their work. First faye paulson of yorba exposure. Now that youve clapped could you hold your applause for everyone else after ive finished the list. Mohammed and ms. Jones all the folks at kay hill our Architect Team and all the various consultants. Community Housing Partners and castro, the city of San Francisco, Building Department the Fire Department which worked closely with us on this project and the funding sources. Silicon valley bank led by christen car and Hudson Housing Capital which is ledly blake davis and the agency and the staff and a i did Mayors Office of housing that worked own this project. Again, i want to thank you all for giving me this stunt and finally, theres before introducing the next speaker rebecca i want to say it was my pleasure to work and partner with ac dc. And most of all congratulate the Rogers Family clapping. and thank them for sharing ms. Rogers for all those years amino i want to introduce rebecca from Silicon Valley bank. Rebecca im delighted to be here for the grand 0 opening pr i represent a lot of spflts. I want to give a shout out to faye whos our equity person and serving on the ac dc board. Weve provided over half a bloiltdz for the Affordable Housing in the bay area. We believe that economic inclusion is an important part of the diverse community. We do business by supporting Affordable Housing developers and after participating in the be financing of those fields. It takes a tremendous amount of teamwork and pool of resources to make this happen. I do want to highlight the city of San Franciscos contribution to this deal. It wasnt the biggest dollars it was the first money in. Once that money is committed to a deal it can be lifrjd to private and public sources. I comprehend the city for investing in our community through Affordable Housing and i hope they will continue their work. Reverend fong and michael your respected team at urban core at ac dc thank you for involving us its a beautiful project thank you rebecca. Our goal is to cut the ribbon with the mayor at 12 30. Im carmen im the accessory wanted to be here to honor you. Were talking about one hundred Affordable Housing units it difficult to get to but it takes the efforts of the folks in the religiously community our Developer Community partners and the city. So again, today im thankful to be here to see this wonderful facility to provide housing. The Assessors Office were the first office that sees problem when you see foreclosures. In the past the height of the recession we saw 90 foreclosures and this year were at the 26 but its still too many. I think we have a long ways to go to remain affordable and we have a role to play. I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you and, of course, to the family Helene Rogers her spirit lives on so thank you so much thank you. clapping . I wouldnt let reverend fong introduce the next speaker. As you know london breed is non now on the board of supervisors. Prior to that, i got to know london first and were all proud she joins us ann as a representative of the board i want to say thank you for all our supports and for the Rogers Family clapping thank you. My first meeting at the National Association for the advance of colored people the naacp i was very, very young. There were a lot of members of the community there. Alex was the president at the time. I raised my hand and proposed an idea and was shot down all of a sudden out of no where this petite young yelled we support young people and listens to this child shes our future and she went on and on. I said is that ms. Rogers . I asked that because her name had been in honor household grouping. My grandmother would tell us stories about how ms. Rogers did this and that. Low and behold it was ms. Rogers. When i had an opportunity to be part of the redevelopment allocation i made a phone call and rooerd jones but ms. Rogers said this will be great for the community but you have to do what you think is best for you if you can be an advocate for the community then i support you. I was able to be on this Great Committee where that folks were at the forefront of approving Affordable Housing and we were all at the table to name this facility after ms. Rogers i was proud to be part of the process and working with her over the years. Ms. Rogers was a big presence i equipped her to be around pardon at any time hard for me, i cant imagine the impact on the family who had given her to the community. She made mario come and pick her up for a meeting and forced here kids to be part of the force. Thats why were standing here today because many of the housing t is primarily due to ms. Rogers fighting against the injustice of redevelopment and how we make decisions in this city. This is why im personally so appreciative of the tab natural doing the outreach. The reefrdz were aggressively outreaching to the Africanamerican Community because our numbers are over he 50 percent of the population which includes the seniors. Ms. Rogers wanted to make sure we were reaching out to the population and make sure they were living here like not only in the city. I appreciate the tab natural. We had a previous developer Michael Johnsons has stepped up to the plate. Michael johnson stepped down with the china town and they said absolutely we want to be part of this they develop incredible housing projects so the partnership of those along with the tab natural to make this Affordable Housing possible t is absolutely incredible and i know ms. Rogers is 13450i8 down on us to make sure wire doing the right things. Im honored to be a supervisor at that time, like this is opening up to our population. Its a beautiful building. I havent seen the artwork but mario was actively see involved and we have so many people who are important. I want to mention reverend town sunday who dealt with the fights and so many people made this probable possible. Mr. King led the fight for the naming of the site after ms. Rogers. Its an honor to be here and an honor to really have known ms. Rogers and know when im making decisions at the board of supervisors i want to also know what ms. Rogers do. If i do that i wont be politically correct and she was about that. You im happy to share in this occasion. I want to bring up the mayor thank you all so much for sharing with us on this occasion. Well, thank you supervisor its often said i just wanted to share my personal appreciation for everybody thats here we need to keep together closely. This is another a example of what we can do. Just imagine ive got to thank mary Helene Rogers when they pointed out out that young would woman in the crowd thats another way of thanking the Rogers Family. But just think imagine if the asian and the Africanamerican Community got together on more projects what we could accomplish. This was what was behind the selling con valley and the experience of the city together to provide leadership on housing so that one hundred units can be just a start. This is just a start. We know already its rk9 our values 20 of those units targeted for homeless seniors weve got to take care of our seniors. I want the city to show its love for a whole generation of people. So lets keep coming together. We need more banks like Silicon Valley ail our banks to join the nonprofits and to join the communicative base and a Developers Like urban core and others to get more done. Thats whats behind the Infrastructure Investment a replacement for very development. We werent going to cry we were going to fight. So we were here two times and many of you recall that rainy day when we green broke ground. We keep he pounding the ground. We came back and said with rooerd townsend were going to do Something Else were going to build the big picture. We announced the Community Trust fund for 1 and a half billion dollars to use that money to replace the projects so we full those other promises we made. And this is whats behind the mary Helene Rogers site. It fulfills a promise we wouldnt have poverty housing in this city to revision public housing. So lets keep working together all the elements that mr. Johnson identified we need outline r all those we need urban core and everybody to work across different racial ethic divides. Were not going to end this is about mary Helene Rogers legacy. I condominium to you this is just another beginning of more projects to come as we bring more people across. This is a city thats rich in resources. Weve got 80 get those resources to talk to each other and make a commitment to build more housing in the city. Reverend fong id like to have the Rogers Family come up and present to them this pramgs declaring today mary helene senior day in San Francisco clapping. i think mario is going to speak and could you introduce the artists as well. Nancy where you at . Right here. Oh, there you go. This is after the doing the murals. Im mario im one of 9 sons. My mom and dad raised us in the community awhile she fight in the community she didnt fight us she beat us and made the familiar roses that reverend townsend talked about. I want to thank everyone for coming out. In the one of my moms themes. Sure. Michael, thank you for doing this project. I need to set the record straight for people in this community. There was an outreach done in this Community People complaining about black folks not obeying being accepted in this project they were. Some of them didnt qualify and do what they were supposed to do. They didnt follow through with what they were supposed to do. Reverend mccrepe maid that everyone got into this project. Those who got in did what they were supposed to do. Awning driveway would you raise our hand. Mark he got back into the project so i know it works hes my brother envy twin. Outreach works clapping so i wanted to set the record straight. Michael working diligently with this family and chinatown worked diligently with the family day to day. I worked on this project from the day it started to end. So i know they did what they were supposed to do. I wasnt going to let it had anything else. When they told us the rent was going to be too high we went back to the drawing board and came up with other monies to induces some of the units. So they did a good job. Thank you from the family for everybody that worked on this project. My mother it smiling down other than the project and city. We were more than ready to share her because she made sure that we did our homework and chores whatever. And if we didnt you all know what she did to us. With that, im going to turn it over to my baby brother paul he wants to sing a short song to my mother to honor her id like to thank everybody for coming out and honor my mother and the mayor and the rest of the supervisors. My mother is definitely smiling down on us right now. I want to say. I used be afraid that no one was ever going to love me this way. But i feel better now. No one could ever say to me thats a shame because my love is mine. I used to say i love everyday. To make you realize trust in the things i say. Look at me now, when you could clearly see the love i feel for you you dont need words for me. Because its love. I say its love. Its mary rogers love. All right. clapping thank you paul. Thats perfect were going to close right now rooerd mccrepe can you come with me over here. Were going to do the blessings here and kit the ribbon. So may the spirit and legacy of mary hell on rogers bebe appreciated forest through this Senior Housing development may this one hundred hows be a safe place and repeat after reverend making crepe peace. Peace. Could joy. Joy and a respect. Respect. And dignity. And dignity. And i men and a clapping. were going to go out to the front and hopefully, your not too late; right . 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 clapping. yeah. 7 and a half million renovation is part of the clean and safe Neighbors Park Fund which was on the ballot four years ago and look at how that Public Investment has transformed our neighborhood. The playground is unique in that it serves a number of age groups, unlike many of the other properties, it serves small children with the childrens play grounds and clubhouses that has basketball courts, it has an outdoor soccer field and so there were a lot of people that came to the table that had their wish list and we did our best to make sure that we kind of divided up spaces and made sure that we kept the old features of the playground but we were able to enhance all of those features. The playground and the soccer field and the tennis fields and it is such a key part of this neighborhood. We want kids to be here. We want families to be here and we want people to have athletic opportunities. We are given a real responsibility to insure that the publics money is used appropriately and that something really special comes of these projects. We generally have about an opportunity every 50 years to redo these spaces. And it is really, really rewarding to see children and families benefit, you know, from the change of culture, at each one of these properties and as a result of, what you see behind us, more kids are playing on our soccer fields than ever before. We have more girls playing sports than we have ever had before. [ applause ] fp and we are sending a strong message that San Francisco families are welcome and we want you to stay. This park is open. This park is open. [horns honking] announcer the first step to getting into college is finding someone who can help. For the next steps, go to knowhow2. Org.
