This morning the innocent man is here at jacobi hospital here in serious condition after being struck by the undercover cop during a gun buying sting that ended in gunfire on a quiet mont vernon street. An officer invest gating illegal sales met be the suspect to make a purchase. The officer was told to drive to mont vernon where another person got in the car and put a gun to the officers head and told him to give him his money. The officer then called for backup, and the backup fired his gun threes times, hitting the suspect in the torso. An innocent bystander was also struck in the torso as well. Navy base heard at hes 14 gun shots. I said to my sister, i heart gun shot. I came to the door and heard the next four shots and saw the car coming one way down the street, and then i saw the police car racing up the street, and thats when i saw it rolling with the police and the ambulance, putting them into the ambulance, and the other one up the street, they put him in another ambulance. Reporter police took both or those ambulances excuse me me, pack both the person shot and the innocent bystander here. Again that person is in serious condition. That suspect was able to flee flee the scene. Police are still looking for him. I will check to see if theres been any further arrests and i will have detames in detail in the next half an hour. Renee staal, Eyewitness News. Goning this morning a sheriffs deputy was randomly gunned down filling up his patrol car at a gas station near houston. A man approached the deputy from behind and then shot him repeatedly. Once he fell to the ground, the suspect continued to fire before he took off. Overnight shortly after releasing the surveillance image of the suspects truck, hearrested. The 10year veteran of the Sheriffs Office leaves behind a wife and two children. Erika is headed to florida and is blamed for 20 deaths in dominica it could weak weaken into a depression or dissipate all together. People in florida have been securing their homes and stocking up on essentials. You dont know what will happen if the storm will strengthen or not. And navy base near beakman street say the sounds of as many as 14 gun shots had them running into the their homes, and police said it start in the bronx when an undercover officer was buying illegal guns in a sting that went bad. The second suspect tried to take off when the undercover officer signaled for backup. A man reportedly approached the deputy there behind and then shot him repeatedly, and once the deputy fell to the ground, the suspect continued to fire before eventually taking off. Overnight, shortly before releasing the surveillance camera image of the suspect and his truck, the suspect was arrested. Investigators said the gunman coulded for no apparent reason. I have been in Law Enforcement for 45 years, and i dont recall another incident this cowardly. The veteran sadly leaves behind a wife and two children. We have new details this morning in the tragic shooting deaths of those two journalists that was captured on live television. The only survivor of the attack, Vicki Gardner is now the out of a medicallyinduced coma telling her what happened. She never saw the gunman walk up because of the bright light that was blinding her and the reporter, and the father of the reporter who lost her life in the shooting is using her death as a platform for stricter gun control laws. Her life was full of joy, and she always saw the best in people and she touched so many loved her. Its different this time. You guys have to help me make a difference. At the site of the shooting, the bridgewater plaza, reopened to the public yesterday, and now now a memorial is there for victims. Police are looking for the man who assaulted a fellow subway passenger in a fight over a seat. This is the man police are trying to find. It happened last saturday at the grand con source subway station, and police say when the victim a 24yearold woman got off it the 2 strain, the suspect pushed her from behind, and that caused her to fall, and hen he hit the victim with his cane and even stepped on her. Police are also investigating a subway assault this one in brooklyn, and it happened august 5th on the l. Train, and authorities said two men punched a passenger on the train as he was entering the ramonia avenue station. The suspects took the victims phone and then ran off. Reporter good morning, this morning the innocent man is in serious condition at the hospital after he was shot by the undercover cop and it all happened right here on this quiet street. Lets look at the scene on beakman avenue around 4 00 p. M. After police say an undercover officer investigating illegal sales met with the suspect in the bronx to make the sure pass. The suspect told the officer to drive to mont vernon where another suspect got into the scar put into the car, putting a gun to the undercover officers head. He gave him the money, and the suspect started to flee. The officer called for backup, and the officer fired his gun hitting the suspect three times in the torso after the suspect had pulled out a replica man. A 63yearold man who happened to be behind the suspect when it went down was also struck in the torso from the neighbors gun, and neighbors say this street is extremely quiet, and they were shocked to hear what they said were as many as 14 gun shots. I was in inside of my house. I heard it first, six shots, and thin i said to my sisterin law, i heard gun shots, and then i came to the door and heard the next four shots, and then i saw the car coming on the oneway, and then the police car was racing up the street, and thats when i came out and i saw one on the ground and the policeman putting him into the ambulance, and then another one from up the street, they put him into the other ambulance. Reporter now the ambulances took both the suspect and the innocent man to jacobi hospital. The first suspect who met with the cops, he was able to take off. An innocent bystander is in the hospital this morning after finding himself caught in the middle of gunfire during an Undercover Police operation in Westchester County, and one suspect is now in custody, but another is on the loose, Eyewitness News reporter, renee staal is live in mont vernon with the details. Hi, renee. Reporter good morning, rob, and we are as close to the scene as we can get, and police are wake up to police tape and investigators after an undercover sting after one man, an innocent man, and a suspect was left shot by the officer. I heard boom, boom, boom, six shots. Reporter and now neighbors near beakman street say the sounds of as many as 14 gunshots had them running into their homes. An undercover officer was buying guns in a sting that went bad, and he met with the suspect, but he was told to drive to mont vernon where a second suspected got into the car, putting a gun to the officers head, demanding cash, and the second suspect tried to take off when the undercover officer signaled for backup, and the officer tried to signal the suspect when the man pointed a replica gun at the Police Officer. The Police Officer hit the suspect in the tore so, tore so, directly behind that man was an innocent man hit directly by bullets from the officers gun. It was really scary. Reporter this is the replica gun that police say the second suspect had and aimed at the officer. Theres also the first suspect that the police are still looking for the first suspect. People across the gulf coast are planning to commemorate the tenth anniversary of katrina with the somber remembrances of those lost and uplifting celebrations of so much decade. President clinton is one of the dignitary who will speak today to honor the recovery. President s obama and bush have also visited in the last few days. The day after katrina hit, the levees broke, and it ultimately caused more than 1800 deaths across the region and roughly 151 billion in damage. The worst Civil Engineering disaster in the country. We saw up here because of the response was so insane and everyone had it fresh in their mind, you saw it here. Thats a katrina lesson that the northeast benefited from when i was our turn up here. We could see the breeze picking up as well. Southfacing shores you may be a few degrees cooler, and then waves 23 feet, and a theres a moderate rip current risk for today. Renee staal has the latest on his condition. Good morning, renee. This is the street where the innocent man was shot, and he was caught up in gunfire in an undercover sting gone bad. He is currently in the hospital in serious condition. Police say an undercover cop was attempting to buy illegal guns in a sting when one suspect pulled out a replica gun and put it to the officers head. When the man tried to plea, the officer tried to stop him. He pointed the replica gun at the cop, hitting the suspect, and behind that was an innocent bystander also hit by the bullets, and now both the suspect and the innocent man all went to jacoby hospital, and the man who was initially involved, the suspect, he was able to get away.
