Northnortheast wind is tracking the moisture coming in from the west. Windchills will catch your attention. I feel like 33 is the combination of temperatures in the 30s and a bit of wind out there. Watching the radar and accutrack. As that happens, moisture coming in, will the combination be right to brew snow that actually sticks and create a spring snowstorm . Looks like the day falls on sunday, but itll be a wet snow. Accumulation on grassy surfaces is likely anywhere between 1 to 3 inches, but then well also look at the possibility of melting on impact and wet cold rain. Wow, what a week the first day parents are on edge in the Newark School system after high levels in the toxins in the water were found at 30 schools there. Good morning to you, tony with the latest on this story. Reporter good morning, michelle. The School District along with the department of Environmental Protection will begin testing 12 schools a day, including the alexander Street School here. These 12 schools are on the testing. Is under way. All 67 schools in the district, as you said, will have this testing done after the 30 schools tested positive for higher than acceptable levels of lead. This past week, dozens of children were also tested for lead exposure. Those test results are due back in about a week. Governor christie spoke about the water dilemma. Released those findings, the state jumped in to help tests and to begin thinking about how they are going to correct the situation. Theres no safe level of lead. We dont want lead to be in water anywhere, but i dont want people to get on a crisis thinking its on the scale of flint or that level. Its absolutely nowhere near that. Reporter the governor says there is money in the School ConstructionCorporation Budget to solve this problem. We also have state lawmakers asking for money in washington to help remediate some of the water projects like this. Meantime, bottled water is being used in all of the schools that are affected. For now, were live here in newark, toni yates, channel 7 Eyewitness News. And part of the probe by the manhattan u. S. Attorneys they are investigating unsafe and unsanitary conditions. Residents with high levels of lead in their blood are at the center of this investigation. Video shows the moment airplane exploded while crash landing in southern russia. Police released this sketch of the suspect in last weeks slashing. He approached a 53yearold woman in broad daylight and cut her throat. She needed 13 stitches. Police received two knives and a bandanna that had been covering the suspects face. An accidental shooting ended on long island with one friend dead and the other under arrest. One of them just teenagers. So where did the gun come from and how did this happen . Hundreds of people gathered last night. Reporter hours after their sudden loss, several Hundred High School students stood in stark disbelief steps from where crime scene investigators were still searching for clues in the death of their friend wilson gill tores. An entire Quality Control protocol has been established to document them and to test them. All 67 schools in the district will have this testing about done. We also spoke to newarks mayor. Weve been providing water, testing children, educating people around lead. Remaidiation would remediation would take millions to fix lead pipings in schools. Lawmakers in washington are also asking for federal moneys. All of the schools that are affected will continue to be served with bottled water. For now, were live in newark, toni yates, Eyewitness News. Eight sailors are recovering after being hurt off the coast of virginia. Six sailors were air lifted to be treated for nonlife threatening injuries. Officials say they were hurt when the arresting gear, the cables that hook onto an aircraft bring it to a stop when it lands on the carrier broke during a routine landing. The aircraft was able to safely fly back to its base. Three teenage boys in Washington State are accused of sexually assaulting a teen girl and posting the attack on social media. The boys were arrested after a woman says she found her daughter in her backyard shed partially undressed and covered with scratches. Police say the boys and 15 yearold girl were dranking in the shed earlier this week when the victim passed out. Up the girl with an electrical wire and sexually assaulting her, posting the whole thing on snap chat. Parents really need to be aware of the different applications and apps that are out there that can do this kind of thing. Teenagers are really good at hiding text messages, pictures, and videos. This is an example of it. The boys are between the ages of 13 and 17. Police say the cell phone used to post the pictures of the assault belongs to the victims younger sister, who was there during the attack. She told police she had to hide well. The prep School Graduate convicted of Sexual Assault is back in Police Custody after being accused of violating his bail conditions. A judge revoked owen la bries bail after he violated his curfew at least eight times. He was con vicinitied of convicted of assaulting a girl. Curfew was part of the bail the requirement that he register as a sex offender. Affordable housing or affordable parking . If theres any switch on how that develops it could bring higher amounts. For our area, a trace to 3 inches. Well see some people get snow that accumulates. Grassy areas. Slick travel will be the main impact from this. 10 to 12 degrees colder. We go with increasing clouds and 32. Yes, we have freezing temperatures as this comes in. Snows not really stacking up but it could make for tricky travel. Temperatures bounce back real fast in the sevenday forecast. Watching this particular model looking for accumulations, snow falls over these areas so maybe the grassy areas that accumulates. Its been a chickee system to timing of it as well. Were limited by the actual numbers that calls for the showers increasing today. In the city, woo he go for a high of 46. Villing right now, a developing right now, all 62 people were killed on a plane crash. The boeing 737 was operated by Budget Airline fly dubai. Officials in russia say the area was hit with strong wind gusts at the time the plane was attempting to land. A spokesman at the flight tracking site flightradar 24 says it missed its approach and circled the airport for two hours before trying to land. Thats when it clipped a wing on the ground exploding and catching fire. Here at home, we turn now another round of testing starts today. Investigators will be checking out all district water fountains and faucets for elevated levels of lead. Toni yates joins us live with details. Good morning to you, toni. Reporter good morning to you, michelle. The School District along with the department of Environmental Protection will begin testing 12 schools today including the alexander Street School here. These 12 schools are on the priority one list for this testing. Protocols with Quality Control has been established to get the water, collect the water samples from all of the water sources in the buildings to document and then test them. All 67 schools in the district will have this testing done. This is after 30 schools tested positive for the higher than acceptable levels of lead. This past week, dozens of children were also tested for lead exposure. Their test results are due back in about a week. Governor christie spoke about the water dilemma. He says once the superintendent state jumped right in to help test and began figuring out how to correct the situation. Theres no safe level of led. We dont want led to be in water anywhere. Its no where is where near the level of flint its nowhere near the levels of flint. Reporter they want to reimmediate why it once they fix the problems. Police say his friend nefi when it went off shooting gill tores in the chest. He was such a good guy, too. He wanted to just play baseball and everything. Thats basically what he did. I never knew this could have been him. I never expectd it. The shooting happened at a home just a quarter mile away from the teens high school. Modified lockdown. A rally as protesters clashed with donald Trump Supporters last night as they wrapped up in utah. They blocked the doors in the rally where trump was speaking. Today, an antitrump rally will be happening in columbus circle. President obama is speaking out about the current president ial campaign and could mean for his legacy. The president on the sidelines he is willing to step up when it comes to stopping donald trump. He says he feels dismayed by what he sees on the campaign trail. We have heard vulgar and dismissive rhetoric against minorities, women and those who dont pray like us, look like us. If trump with are elected, the white house would get an interesting makeover. It happened at 17th street and first avenue around 4 30 this morning. Police are telling us a 44 yearold woman was in the street when she was hit by a cab. Rain mixing to wet snow if the system was a little closer to the shoreline or this lower impact of snow just off to the east of the city. It looks like right now we might get the rain to wet snow but the shift is so far to the east, the impact should be low and slick roadways will be the main impact. I think that runners tomorrow morning, you get a decent race. Close call, right . Late tonight for south jersey, we get the cold rain. Maybe some light snow flurries falling. Tonight we start with the clouds and cold temperatures. This low develops there offshore. Possibility of us getting into the deep snow doesnt look likely. It was never a thought that something would happen to him. Reporter joe was one of 11 fdny from rescue 5 that were lost when the twin towers fell. Caitlyn was just 8 years old when her dad was taken away. No question caitlyn and the firehouse remember him. My dad was working the night before. He had worked the night shift. Came home early that tuesday morning. I had school. He picked me up, brought me back to the firehouse because breakfast here with the guys. He made me french toast, took me to school, i hugged him good bye and i didnt realize it was the last day i would see him. Reporter she remembers how tuesdays family remembers her and her family and the comfort they bring. Still 14 1 2 years later, what they are still doing. Reporter she committed to raise a dollar for each 9 11 soul lost. She surpassed her goal, convinced she is not doing this alone. Hes what keeps me motivated. When i want to quit, i think about what he did that day. He went and ran and he didnt stop and give up. Neither will i. Reporter her brother chris now fdny is proud of her. New jersey officials are testing the waters in schools after reports of elevated lead levels. Tony yates is live with the latest. Good morning, tony. Reporter good morning again, ladies. A dozen schools are on that priority one list for testing. That testing being done today. Experts are going into the schools to collect samples of water from the fountains and faucets. 30 schools recently tested above average for levels of lead. This past week, dozens of Early Childhood students were tested at schools for lead exposure levels. These results are due back in about a week. Be conducted through april 11th. All 67 schools in the district will be tested. Governor christie says this is definitely a problem that needs to be and will be corrected. However, he says lead levels are nowhere near crisis levels. In the meantime, all of the 30 schools that are affected by high levels of lead in their water will be using bottled water until the problem is fixed. For now, were live here in newark, toni yates, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Police are searching for the cab driver involved in the deadly hit and run. It happened at 17th street and first avenue around 4 30 this morning. Police say a 44yearold woman was in the street when she was hit by a cab. The driver kept on going, leaving her in the street. A cane was found nearby and may belong to the victim. She was rushed to the hospital where she died. A teenager will be in court this morning in Suffolk County accused of accidentally shooting and killing his friend. If i reyes was show nefi reyes was showing off his gun when it went off. Friends gathered last night near the scene to hold a vigil. The shooting happened at a home just a quarter mile away from the teens high school.
