And the voters of new york have spoken, and were breaking down the results this morning for you. Clinton beat Bernie Sanders in her adopted home state, winning nearly 58 of the vote. Hillary clinton definitely defended her home turf well with a very decisive win. Meanwhile, for Bernie Sanders hes still in the running, but barely. New yorkers came through for Hillary Clinton in a big way, taking her one step closer to getting her partys nomination. New yorkers, youve always and ive always tried to have yours. Today, together we did it again and i am deeply, deeply grateful. Reporter Bernie Sanders was hoping for an upset win in the primary which could have changed the trajectory of the race. Sanders campaigned hard in new york, drawing crowds in the thousands, but in the end he suffered a doubledigit loss. Today we took secretary clinton on in her own state of new york and we lost. Reporter clinton supporters have now stepped up their calls for sanders to get out of the race. To stay in, they sairks would be destructive. Were going to go back to lori in the meantime, in other news for you, new york citys comptroller is launching an investigation into the board of elections and their voters ran into problems at the polls. In brooklyn tens of thousands of new yorkers were purged from voter rolls and its not clear why. Some had been declared inactive, but werent given the vote. Board of elections says that others had been previously told they would not be able to vote in the primary. One side, in fact, staffer seemed unaware the republicans could vote in the primary. Time. Police say 46yearold Robert Costanzo actually admitted pulling off several burglaries here on Staten Island between 2007 and 2008. This was after he was arrested for a burglary in connecticut where a woman was held at knifepoint before 75,000 worth of jewelry was taken from her safe. Now, costanzo is a level 3 sex offender, he was accused of a 1989 rape here on Staten Island, also a 1996 Sexual Battery in florida. Now, during this ninja burglary spree here on Staten Island, 19 homes have been hit. A few homeowners had even come face to face with a six foot tall man dressed head to toe in black. He was once stabbed by a victim, but he got away. One homeowner says she was threatened with none shots. The crimes were never officially solved, but after into custody for that 2014 connecticut burglary, together evidence. Eventually they say it tied him to the Staten Island. Now, d. A. Michael mcmahon will hold a press conference at 1 00 to announce the arrest. Costanzo will also be arraigned here. Both sides are now appealing a judges decision after the sentencing of former nypd officer peter liang in the shooting death of akai gurley. Yesterday he was sentenced to five years of probation and Community Service after a judge reduced his manslaughter conviction, instead convicts him of criminally negligent homicide. Liang shot and killed akai gurley when he fired a shot in the stairwell of the pink houses in brooklyn. [ inaudible ] i apologize. Liang plans to appeal his conviction. The brooklyn d. A. We have clear skies, we got a beautiful day. Theres High Pressure sinking down out of canada right across us. Off to our west is warmer air. That is poised to come our way for tomorrow. Today its going to be 3 at 9 00, and then by afternoon were looking at 65 to about 67 every seven minutes. I know youve never done that, right . Reporter did you just say 3 degrees at 9 00 . But the inbound side of the that helix, you get to the top of the helix, youll find only the left lane open. This is because of construction. Again, this should be cleared away by at least 5 00 a. M. And thats normally when they start clearing away that construction at our hudson river crossings. Western spur of the turnpike has closures both directions, and that is causing everybody to be kicked on over to the eastern spur as well. But its not causing any major delays. Grand jury subpoenas have been issued. Several of the Democratic Candidates have been questioned by the fbi and investigators from the manhattan District Attorneys office. Well, police shot and wounded a man after they say he pull out a gun in front of officers in downtown brooklyn. This happened at the farragut houses and police say when officers stopped a man for a woman, that mans friend pulled a gun from his waistband. Three officers opened fire, shooting him in the hand. Both men were arrested. 4 43. Two men charged in a notorious well, theyre set to appear in court today. The brawl was caught on camera Easter Sunday at the newport mall in jersey city. 22yearold kaseem charles, aka, easter bunny and 44year old quan Jimenez Guerrero are both charged with assault and disorderly conduct. Guerrero is accused of attacking the bunny after his child fell off his lap. Now to the deadly floods in texas and the death toll in houston has now risen to seven. Also seeing video of rescues from the rising waters. A group of people, young people had ventured into the water with a kayak and they ended up in trouble. Good samaritans ended up pulling them out. The flooding was caused by storms that dumped nearly a foot and a half of water in just 24 hours. Good god, look at that. Thats amazing. Learned lesson. Absolutely. 4 44. So were going to be closer to 70s back on tap for tomorrow. Some showers show up friday afternoon. So today and tomorrow, check out the air quality. Uv index of 7 today and tomorrow which is high, about an hour or maybe two gets you a sunburn, about an hour on fair skin with no sunscreen or sunblock. Katrina williams says that she was stopped inside her car in queens when she says the device simply exploded. It flew out of her pocket and onto the dashboard. Police arrested robert la bellea for assault. They say he cut off a car in the mall parking lot and then sprayed the driver and his two children who were in the car with him. In the race for president , Republican Donald Trump snatched up 89 of the 95 delegates up for grabs in the New York Primary, getting him a little closer to the gop nomination. While democrat Hillary Clinton also came away with a crucial victory that she hopes will stop rival Bernie Sanders once and for all. Clinton won nearly 58 of the vote to sanders 42 . Reporter new york voters gave donald trump the big win he was looking for in his home state. Trump took nearly all the delegates up for grabs, making him the only republican with a chance of clinching the nomination before the convention. Governor john kasich came in a distant second in last nights primary, but he seems confident trump will not be nominated before the convention. They know theyre not going to get enough votes to win it on the first ballot, and so were going to be deadlocked. Reporter meanwhile, trumps closest rival, senator ted cruz says trumps win was just a politician winning his home state. Last night with his sights set on the next primary where hes hoping to unite republican voters. We must unite the Republican Party because doing so is the First Step Towards uniting all americans. Hillary clinton told a very excited crowd last night that the race for the democratic nomination is in the home stretch and victory is now in sight. Clinton had a very decisive win last night. Clinton wanted to win big because new york is home her adopted home and a loss would have been very embarrassing and meanwhile, Bernie Sanders, a brooklyn, new york native had very high hopes that he would be able to deliver an upset to clinton. Sanders, as you guys know, drew very large crowds to his rallies, and he was even able to close the point gap in the polls, but in the end he suffered a doubledigit defeat to clinton. The race for the democratic nomination is in the home stretch and victory is in sight. We lost tonight. Week. We think were going to do well, an we have a path toward victory which we are going to fight to maintain. Control of the new York State Senate on the line with a special election on long island. It was to fill the seat of prisonbound dean skelos, the former Republican Senate majority leader. Now, democrat Todd Kaminski declare victory, but republican Chris Mcgrath has not conceded yet. He says its still simply too close to call. A kaminski win would give democrats a oneseat majority in the senate and a chance to take total control over state government. And democratic leader from Lower Manhattan allisa cancel has been elected with 41 of the vote. She will replace former speaker Sheldon Silver after his corruption conviction last year. New york citys comptroller is opening an investigation into the board of elections. This comes after thousands of new yorkers experienced problems at the polls. At one polling station in brooklyn voters say that workers were uninformed and untrained. A voter captured this cell phone video of a worker who apparently didnt even know both democrats and republicans were allowed to vote yesterday. Without voting and many who could vote were frustrated. This is important for everybody. We need to we have our rights, and whether youre republican, democratic or whatever, you should be able to vote accordingly. One of the biggest problems of the day, 126,000 people were actually purged from the rolls in brooklyn. Its not clear exactly why. Geological survey is confirming yet another earthquake has hit the coast of ecuador in the very same region that is recovering from last weeks devastating quake. There are reports this morning 6. 1magnitude quake could cause tsunamis along the pacific there are now more than 500 people dead, more than 4,000 hurt after last weeks quake. Crews are continuing to search through the rubble for survivors and victims and working through a long list of people who are unaccounted for. Those poor, poor people down there. Newtown, connecticut teacher arrested for bringing a gun to the towns middle school is due in court today. Jason adams is expected to appear in danbury superior court. Police say that he had a valid pistol permit but connecticut state law prohibits possession of firearms on school grounds. Adams has been placed on administrative leave. Hillary clinton definitely protected her home turf well last night with a very decisive win. Meanwhile Bernie Sanders is still in the race, but barely. Reporter new yorkers came through for Hillary Clinton in a big way, taking her one step closer to getting her partys new yorkers, youve always youve always had my back. [ cheers ] and ive always tried to have yours. Today together we did it again and i am deeply, deeply grateful. Reporter Bernie Sanders was hoping for an upset win in the primary which could have changed the trajectory of the race. Sanders campaigned hard in new york, drawing crowds in the thousands. But in the end he suffered a doubledigit loss. Today we took secretary clinton on in her own state of new york, and we lost. Reporter clinton supporters have now stepped up their calls for sanders to get out of the race. To stay in, they say, would be destructive. And Bernie Sanders flew back to vermont late last night, and he plans to have discussions with his staff at some point today. Reporter ken, good morning. Donald trump celebrated here at trump tower for about two hours last night, and now for him it is on to indiana. He swept every county in the state with the exception of his own here in manhattan. That went to john kasich who won by about 900 votes. But even still, trump needed to win his home state and win big, and that he did, sweeping all of new york nearly all, rather, of new yorks delegates. Now looking ahead to next weeks primaries. At his Victory Party last night here at trump tower, trump called on his opponents to bow out of the race, saying its now nearly mathematically impossible for them to win. The victory has put him that much closer to clinching the the convention, and next weeks primaries in connecticut, rhode island, pennsylvania, maryland and delaware, states that need jobs and economic help, areas where trump says he is strong and it will only solidify his lead. Were really, really rocking. We expect were going to have an amazing number of weeks because these are places and theyre in trouble. Theyre in big trouble. When you look at pennsylvania, when you look at indiana, when you look at maryland and rhode island and so many places, we have problems everywhere you look. We are going to solve those problems. Another issue untrained precinct workers. The biggest problem was the more than 125,000 voters who were not able to cast their ballot in brooklyn. And its still not clear why. Despite all that, the director of the board of elections says the idea there are mass problems across the city is simply a misconception. Well, new this morning, mayor bill de blasios Campaign Fundraising is now the focus of a federal investigation. Grand jury subpoenas have been issued but the New York Times reports that the mayors Reelection Committee and the citys Law Department refuse to say whether they have received subpoenas. The investigation is centered on the mayors efforts to raise money for Democratic Candidates in half a dozen state senate races in 2014. Several of those candidates 5 35. Both sides are now appealing a sentencing of former nypd officer peter liang in the shoolgt death of akai gurley. Yesterday liang was sentenced to Community Service and five years probation, that coming after a judge reduced his manslaughter conviction, instead convicting him of criminally negligent homicide. Liang shot and killed akai gurley when he fired a shot inside a stairwell at the pink houses in brooklyn. I always treated People Fairly and with respect. I it was a shock. [ inaudible ] i apologize well, liang plans to appeal the brooklyn d. A. Also plans to appeal the ruling after the judge reduced the jury. Well, we will learn more today about the man dubbedded the ninja burglar after a island. His crimes date back divides, including decades, including rape and home invasion. And police say 46yearold Robert Costanzo actually admitted to pulling off several burglaries here on Staten Island between the years 2007 and 2008, and they say he admitted this after he was arresteded in connecticut for a burglary where a woman was held at knifepoint before 75,000 worth of jewelry was taken from her safe. And as you said, Robert Costanzo has a long criminal past. Hes a level 3 sexual offender, charged with a rape here on Staten Island back in 1989 and also a Sexual Battery in 1996 in florida. Now, during the ninja burglary spree here on Staten Island, 19 homes have been hit. A few homeowners had even come face to face with a six foot tall man dressed head to toe in black. He was once stabbed by a victim, but he got away from homeowner said that he was threatened with numchucks. The crimes were never officially solved, but after costanzo was taken into custody for the 2014 connecticut burglary, authorities began piecing together evidence. Eventually they say tying him to the Staten Island spree. Now, d. A. Michael mcmahon today will hold a press conference at 1 00 this afternoon, announcing the arrest. So when you have the jet stream sitting on top of this, it just keeps building rain over and over and over and its blocked because we have this High Pressure ridge giving us fair system to our west. So i get asked often, why is it raining so much in texas . And that is the reason why. It happens that way this time of the year there. Today. Were looking at 67 degrees. Police arrested robert la bellea for assault. They say that he cut off a car in the mall parking lot, then spray the driver and his two children. Bystanders jumped in to try to subdue la bellea. But investigators say he fought his way free and later found at his home in sea cliff. Its 5 51. Two men charged in a no toorious easter bunny brawl in new jersey, remember this . Theyre set to appear in court today in new jersey. Check this out. The brawl was kraut on camera Easter Sunday at the mall in new jersey. Wewe are looking at 42 around new city, 51 around newark. These numbers about 5, 6 degrees warmer than normal, and just a light northwest wind here this morning with dry humidities. Taking the ferry over, great island, jersey city, back and forth from brooklyn, really nice. Water temperature warming up a little bit, 51 degrees. Even a nice ride from bridgeport here over toward port jeff. Well, next seven hours lots of sunshine. We get to near 60 by lunchtime. Were looking at just a little bit of wind out of the northwest, very low humidities and the wind at 6 to 12 miles an hour. Well be at 67 today. Still warmer than normal. And were into the 70s tomorrow. Weather then heather every seven minutes. What do you have going on out there . Reporter well talk about our subway status and all of our subway systems are running on or close to schedule at this point. New jersey transit, long island railroad, metro north, they are doing just fine. And then as you go to the Brooklyn Bridge inbound, that earlier construction has been cleared away. So traffic is moving okay once again. And then going onto the van wyck north at the kew gardens interchange, we had an accident there. That accident has also been cleared away. Connecticut turnpike south exit 34 to 31, that construction cleared away. This residual delay should really start disappearing very shortly. And then as you go onto 27 in North Brunswick, northbound at that downed pole. So all lanes are closed down on the northbound side as a result. The colors will remain the same, white with blue lettering for Police Scenes and yellow with black lettering for crime scenes. But the new tape will now include the departments Crime Stoppers 1800 phone number. The Department Plans to use up its inventory of the old tape before switching over to the new design.
