In this case a man woke up from the smell of gas and sparked the blast after he flipped the light switch. Here is where the explosion happened around 1 30 this morning. The man inside the house is in the hospital now with injuries to nearly half his body. Ted greenberg is live in Point Pleasant. Ted do police have any idea reporter renee and jim, investigators have been focusing their attention on what was the inside of a house here as opposed to a gas main in the street. I just checked and the man who lived here is in Critical Condition after yet another ocean county home was obliterated by a blast. All of a sudden the whole house shook like an explosion. Reporter brian and doma kitty say the house next door just disintegrated. It was like a bomb going up. Reporter when it blew up and rocked their neighborhood overnight overnight, leaving the resident kurt wagner, badly burned. He got blown out the front door. He was just screaming. He was like help help. Reporter police say the victim woke up and smelled natural gas around 1 30 this morning. When he turned on a bathroom light switch the place burst into flames. A spark can create a serious situation. Turning on the lights using a cell phone. Reporter its the second explosion in less than a week. Investigators say a cracked gas main along the street led to a leak and massive blast in stafford township on tuesday. 15 people were hurt. Obviously we could see within the last week gas is not something to play around with. Reporter today we watched as detectives dug through debris and closely examined part of a heater. Unlike the stafford explosion, they believe the source of the leak here was likely inside the house. The most important thing you can do if you smell natural gas, immediately leave the premises. Go to a safe location. Reporter and he says you should then call your natural gas provider right away. Officials say gas company crewingcrews checked and found no problems with the gas main in this neighborhood and also found no gas leaking in other homes. Im Ted Greenberg, nbc 10 news. At last report the injured gas worker in last weeks explosion remangdined in Critical Condition. He was one of 15 people hurt last tuesday. A crack in a gas main caused the leak leading to the blast. Meanwhile, new jerseys largest utility announced the plan to modernize its gas system throughout the state. Public Service Electric and gas Company Wants to invest 1. 6 billion over the next five years for the program. It would include removing 160 miles of cast iron and unprotected steel gas mains a year. They want to replace it with more Durable Plastic piping. The program would support about 500 jobs. Now, in making the announcement, the companys president and ceo says we are in a time of unprecedented low Interest Rates and natural gas prices. The timing is right to make these investments. We had the ice yesterday. Some of it melted and now we have a first alert weather day for a combination of things. In this case its going to be sleet along with freezing rain that will impact the evening rush across much of the area. Were not talking about a lot of snow but we are talking about ice again. Weve got gusty winds that are bringing in cold air. Its 40 degrees now, 30s north and west. Above freezing. The strong march sun has done a lot of melting during the day today but things are going to be changing. As we go to 7 00 tonight north and west its already going to get below freezing. In other areas, its going to take it until 8 00 or 9 00 but its going down. Then were getting ice, rain and then significant snow. The timing on all of that with the sevenday in a few minutes. A 12inch water main break caused big problems in south philadelphia this morning. The cracked pipe sent water pouring into the street at 15th and christian just outside a barbershop. He ousted current chairman bill green and named Marjorie Neff the new chair. Green says its against the law but he wont stand in the governors way for now but he wants to go to court. It comes after the src approved five new charter schools. On the phone Marjorie Neff told us shes looking forward to working as a team with other src members. I dont think youre going to see a big change because thats been the focus of the src all along. And im just excited to be able to contribute a different way. Governor wolf cited mismanagement and poor decisions as the reason for replacing green. Governor wolfs office argues he does have the right to make that change. Sky force 10 over the scene of a robbery. They got away with 1,000 after stabbing a man inside the we buy gold store. It happened just before 12 00. A witness tells us the store owner tried to fight off that suspect. Police say he got away in a black gmc truck. The store owner was taken to the hospital to be treated for a serious stab wound to his face. Very nice guy. Very nice doesnt bother anybody, so i dont know how this occurred. The victim is now recovering at the hospital. One of mercer countys most wanted is finally behind bars. Officials arrested Raul Castillo friday night for an alleged stabbing back in may. He was put on the most wanted list five months ago. He changed his appearance and they picked him up in trenton. Police are looking for whoever shot up a car with three people inside among them a 3yearold girl. Police dont know what led to last nights gunfire. The car had bullet holes in the trunk and passenger side door. It took more than a decade but police say they finally got their man in a cold case murder. Officers nabbed angel pinto for the shooting death. Cydney long is live in camden where the suspect just made a Court Appearance and the victims family spoke out. What are relatives saying some 13 years after this murder . The champion driver was suspended in february after being accused of abusing his exgirlfriend. It allegedly happened in september while the couple was in delaware. A delay in court today in the trial against a philadelphia woman accused of giving a deadly butt injection. The suspect, Padge Victoria Windslowe is sick. She is charged with thirddegree murder in the death of a british woman who flew to philadelphia for a butt enhancement procedure in 2011. But for the most part its a crap shoot basically where that next wall of ice chunks is going to come from. Its pretty bad. Its big chunks of ice flying off the top of trucks and cars and it flies into the windshield. The cycle of ice on top of snowstorms keeps reloading the roofs of vehicles with ammunition. You dont know if its going to shatter your windshield or youre going to get in an accident. Reporter she said its been a White Knuckle trip with the kids. It is scary because i want to protect them. Delaware governor jack mark markel is combatting Climate Change. He outlined a plan to cut Greenhouse Gas emissions by 30 over the next 15 years. The chief in new cass tell says they all sound like great goals. Hed love to have his officers be more interactive in the community but time and funding arent always there. Same with body cameras. He wants them on every officer, but there are still so many questions that arent answered most involve money. He does say body cameras would be and will be an effective tool. It keeps the officer sharp. It also is data that comes to us in case of a shooting. We actually have everything we can give to the Attorney Generals Office to show that the officer was justified or not justified, depending on the situation. Theres a lot of moisture out here in the southwest. Weve had three storms in a row originate in that area and you can pick up a lot of moisture like that. Now, the morning is dry tomorrow but heres 2 00 in the afternoon and theres some light snow developing here. Im not expecting any real big snow accumulations. There may be a little period a little burst here and thats part of the afternoon rush and parts of bucks county poconos, Burlington County but the biggest area is going to be this ice. This is sleet and these are frozen raindrops that bounce when they hit the ground and it can cause some icy conditions. Farther south and east of philadelphia extreme south jersey, much of delaware, its going to chamber of commercenge over to rain and thats going to help things here. But were all going to change to rain as we go into wednesday. Wednesday night for the most part its rain and then thursday for the most part its snow and likely accumulating snow. The videos posted on facebook sunday show a group of officers confronting the man believed to be the robbery suspect. In the struggle with the suspect, officers take him down and try to cuff him. In the distance you can hear a taser and someone yelling drop the gun. Then gunfire as the suspect is shot dead. Bystanders cant believe what theyre seeing. But the police chief this morning presented screen grabs from the video believed to show the suspects hands on an officers gun with the slide pulled back. A very intense situation and a brutal brutal fight. Reporter dennis horn posted one of the videos. Did he reach for the officers weapon . You didnt see that . My eyes didnt see that. I thought kind of extreme. Maybe one gunshot and one officer shooting. But when you hear one shot theres six or seven men on him.
