Several students were taken into custody after a picture surfaced showing a gun inside the building. That discovery sent students and teachers into lockdown and dozens of Police Officers racing to a northeast philadelphia high school. You saw some of it unfold live on the air right here on nbc 10 just before 11 00. Nbc 10s lu ann cahn is live at samuel South High School in summerdale. This all started with a picture of a gun, explain how police found the real thing. Right. A student took a picture of the gun and was very concerned about it being flashed into class and then police in the school responded immediately. My child is afraid and everybody elses kid is afraid, too. Police were called to Fels High School at 9 30 a. M. A student saw another student flashing a gun in class, took a picture and told school authorities. A s. W. A. T. Team came in and searched every locker and room looking for the student and the gun. We recovered a gun in a trash can inside the school. We also have one 18yearold male in custody who possessed the gun. The gun was foundc in the weight room. It was not loaded. The student says his friend brought it to school because he was scared. There had been fights. There was another lockdown at Fels High School on monday. My daughter called me that theres a gunman in her school. And they have him in lockdown. Reporter they were all safe, no threats were made but the fear is real. Police say they arent sure how the gun got past metal detectors at the entrance doors. Police have taken five students in for questioning. Im scared for my churns safety. Hes expected to be charged with gun violations, about a half dozen students are still being questioned by northeast detectives. Just hours after telling the nbc 10 investigators she was afraid her exboyfriend might kill her, a glenolden woman is dead. A former cop, her ex, is charged with murder. Stephen rozniakowski killed her monday night and the womans husband shot him. Rozniakowski gunned down his exgirlfriend, valerie morrow at her home in glenolden. He shot and wounded morrows teenage daughter. Morrows husband, also a cop, returned fire, injuring rozniakowski. Hours before that shooting, police served rozniakowski with a court order to stay away from morrow. Thats when she called the nbc 10 investigators. As for the two former penndot managers, the attorney general says they took kickbacks from highway inspectors in exchange for turning a blind eye to fraudulent time sheets and mileage reports. The a. Now a new poll from nbc news has found 57 of americans believe Race Relations in the United States are bad. That is a dramatic slide from the beginning of president obamas first term when 77 said Race Relations were good. Nearly 500 nfl workers have turned over phone and email records in connection with the ray rice case. The investigators are looking into how commissioner roger the rice probe. He says that the cause of death for brad stone will have to be determined by toxicology reports. He says hes expediting the reports but cuts to his body did not cause his death. A judge ruled today steven burnier will stand trial. Investigators say he crashed into several cars on Allentown Pike in maidencreek township last month. Two people were killed, a young veteran and a nurse. Police say burnier fell asleep at the wheel and was speeding at the time. A campaign is under way to raise money for the family of marie gimel. Gimel who grew up in Point Pleasant died when a business jet crashed into her home in gaithersburg, maryland, earlier this month. Her two sons also died in the crash. So the wind is going to still be with us as we go through the day tomorrow. It will be a windy day and a colder day than what we saw today. We will be staying dry. By friday, locally well be dry, still be watching that area of low pressure in the gulf of mexico. Its expected to move across the southeast. A 16yearold girl was hit and killed trying to cross a bensalem street to get on her school bus. Authorities tell nbc 10 the 18yearold driver who hit the girl was also a student. Police say he didnt stop for school bus stoplights. Parents are demanding answers after minete zekas death. Parents say they complained to the school before about that intersection. Doug, what is the School District saying about student safety tonight . Reporter the bensalem School District says they are going to begin a review of bus stops. In the meantime, friends of minete zeka held a vigil to warn of the dangers of students crossing dark streets to get to a school bus. They dont want to talk about 16yearold minete zeka in the past tense. Shes kind of a leader more than a follower. She definitely didnt ever deserve this, ever. Reporter Bensalem Police say an suv driven by an 18yearold man never stopped as minete crossed bensalem boulevard to board a school bus just before sunrise. Disregarded the school bus activation lights and stop sign, and proceeded through the intersection, striking and dragging the child for some distance. Reporter parents say they complained to the School District about Bensalem High School students having to cross bensalem boulevard in the dark. Its very unsafe. I talked to the School District several times. Ive had three kids in the district who have almost gotten hit. Reporter bensalem School District says they only use crossing guards for elementary and middle school students. We are looking at changing bus routes and locations.
