Folks on both sides came out with signs today and packed the chambers. They waited for about five hours for this final vote to happen today. It was 134. And as we came out of there, i saw people who are for this smiling, hugging, cheering, and some long faces on the people who are not in favor of r ray the smiles, though, for mayor jim kenny. Lets take a listen to his reaction just moments ago. This is a terrific day, but this is just the beginning of the process. It was certainly a long road to get here, but this is the beginning of the process of changing the narrative of poverty in our city. As cameras catch this stolen suv swem swerving and slamming into a building. Police say the victim woke up and saw the suspect breaking into cars inside his neighborhood. The homeowner went back inside, retrieved the weapon. Reporter after the crash, that homeowner pulls out a gun and fires at the suspect who tries to run away. The homeowner shot him once in the arm. Reporter meantime, shop owners are cleaning up a big mess. Bounced off of this wall and crushed into that tree and pieces of the car flew all the way right in front of my shop. Reporter diane questions why that homeowner would open fire in a busy intersection. Its a little surprising this guy jumped in his car with a gun and chased down the person. The majority of the money will fund universal prek. Jurors in the chaka fattah trial just went home after their first full day deliberating. Lawyers met for much of the afternoon. Were live outside the courthouse. What can you tell us . Reporter what those lawyers were meeting about was not made public. There were two separate long meetings. The jury had lunch from 12 30 to 1 30. Lawyers left the courthouse, and when they returned, they met in chambers. Later in the afternoon, they met in chambers. After that, the jury was brought in and sent home for the day. We dont know what was being discussed. We dont know if there was any communications from the injury to the judge at this point. There were a lot of meetings behind closed doors. Typically what you see when the jury is deliberating is a lot of waiting around. The defendants and the prosecutors waiting for word, waiting for questions. So far, no questions the jury has had have been made public. First thing this morning, lawyers from both sides got all of the exhibits ready. Hundreds of exhibits, they were shown throughout this fiveweek trial. They are all at the jurys disposal. They can thumb through the bank statements, emails, and other documents they were shown. At this point, no word if the jury is close to reaching a verdict or where this process stands. Congressman chaka fattah and four others here are charged with a number of crimes. The jury has to sort through all of these crimes and determine the guilty or innocence for each of these defendants. In todays nbc10 responds, a local family is frustrated after they were told a faulty water line in their fridge could not be mixed. After the family heard from the company, they just werent happy about it. We have their story. When i came down the other morning, i opened it and nothing worked. Barbara brady says a broken refrigerator was the last thing she needed. She says by the time she found out it was out of commission, all of her food was unfit to eat and her daughters medicine was ruined. I was shocked. I hoped the refrigerator, everything was warm. Reporter she immediately called sears. Thats where she purchased the refrigerator nearly four years ago. Brady says a repairman came that day, but he didnt have the parts to fix the fridge. Animal workers raided a philadelphia property filled with dozens of cats. The spca received a tip through its cruelty hot line and serve add washt on two separate homes. Officials estimate 30 to 50 cats were living together in the apartment on the first and third floors. The residents willingly submitted the animals.
