Lets talk about Hurricane Matthew, its bearing down on the caribbean, its drenching rain and high winds have already left their mark on haiti and now its got its sights on cuba and the united states. With strong currents and resident running. Sheena parveen is tracking where Hurricane Matthew is right now. Hurricane matthew is still a category 4 storm. Take a look, its spinning, you can see that eye perfect, of the storm heading over guantanamo bay, heres the last picture from hurricane hunters, picking up wind speeds of 135 miles an hour. There you see it, the eye of the storm, theres guantanamo cuba, so it will be crossing over cuba and then heading over the bahamas, heres whats happening in cuba. Cuba does have the hurricane warnings out, even the bahamas have the hurricane warnings, but one thing were watching very closely is the impact to the united states. Now were looking at florida with hurricane warnings from cape canaveral, to just south of miami. Tropical storm watches and hurricane watches are out. These areas in florida are expected to get some impact from matthew. It could really hold on to that hurricane strength. Reports we are tracking very closely. Well have updates coming out, but your most recent update could put much of the southeast coast in the path as well. The newer data does confirm the threat to florida and its going to come very, very close to the Florida East Coast, close enough for hurricane type conditions, what theyre doing right now, preparing in southeast florida. For matthews approach. Florida has not been hit by a major hurricane in a long, long time. So theres potential for heavy flooding as residents prepare for a direct hit. And the evacuation orders could be coming out at any time. Lets switch over to the max 1 and well show you just what the issue is s the latest with this hurricane. All right, its still a category 4, with 145mileperhour winds, with a just update coming in about an hour, at 5 00. Based on computer models, a right turn help to the carolinas is more likely, that would lessen the impact around here. If that trend continues. 145mileperhour, moving north at 10, its going to take kind of a weird track, its going to move northwest, then its going to move northeast, when it keeps turning, thats when it gets extra tricky, but this is a category 4, major, monster hurricane, coming very close to the coast, a new track will be coming out in less than an hour, and this cold front approaching is going to determine how close this storm gets to our area, the faster that front months in, more of a right turn that takes. Lets take a look at 5 00 this afternoon when the new advisory comes in, and see if they dont turn it a little bit more to the right, keep it farther away from us. That would lessen the winds here, that would lessening the coastal flooding and lessen the rain and maybe even bring some decent weather on sunday. So stay tuned for that. And we have this just in to nbc 10, the ntsb, the National Transportation safety board announced it just found the black box recorder from the wreckage of last weeks deadly new Jersey Transit crash in hoboken. Theres no Information Available from the box yet. But the train was going twice as fast as it was supposed to. The box may confirm that. A woman was killed and 14 other people hurt when the train barrelled into that hoboken train station. Federal investigators are expected to talk about this discovery. There you see one ntsb official at the microphone. Investigators estimate that the train was going 20 to 30 miles an hour and the speed limit is so miles an hour. Hurricane matthew continues to month to the north, its managed to go right between two islands with lots of mountains, and the center has barely been over land. So it hasnt weakened. If it goes over the mountains, it would weaken a whole lot more. Its right near the eastern tip of cuba, this is over 300 miles across. This is not a point. Even when we show the track, remember, theres a possibility on either side of that, and then you add the size of the storm, so keep all that in mind, we have a hurricane watch thats been issued from Palm Beach County north window to the coast, and a storm warning that includes all miami and all of the florida keys. But the very latest, based on the computer models that have come in own the last couple of hours, regardless of fact that its still very strong, a category 5, we have more of evidence of a right turn as it goes out towards the carolinas, which is really important for us. That becomes more likely, not a certainty, but it becomes more likely than earlier. That would give us less of an impact if that trend continues. Moving north at 10, the area of gale force winds, that is a big area, not just a point. This is the track, to the west, and then straight to the north. Going right between these islands, just on the western tip of haiti and about to go over the eastern tip of cuba. Then it goes into the bahamas, and it starts to make a bit of a left turn. It might make more of a left turn than this previous advisory has and goes right toward the florida coast and then start to make that right turn. Its all dependent on that front, the faster it moves in, the quicker it moves out and the better your chances of it missing are better. There we are friday, it goes go to the southeast coast and then moving to the right. So that will really have the threat of rain over the weekend. We still might get some showers with the front. But not necessarily worse than that. Beautiful weather the next few days. Tropical storm watches have been issued for the east coast of florida as well. Lets go now to nassau, bahamas. Reporter theyre in limited Operations Mode here, but there are still 3,000 visitors here in the bahamas, theres a few down there enjoying the sun, the sand and the ocean. Freeport is evacuating. A lot of airports are closed. Almost will all be shut down tomorrow. Here in nasa, residents are scrambling to prepare for the storm. In this grocery store, lines are hours long people trying to get sandbags, rain and flooding is the big thing here, a surge of 10 to 15 feet and wind gusts up to 60mileperhour. This is going to be a major one compared to the previous years, we havent had no serious answer to nas tha nassau, baham there one looks like its going to be devastating. Those tourists right there, they have only got about 36 hours to keep enjoying the conditions here before it gets really bad. With its sights set on florida and the carolinas. Glenn hurricane schwartz s has its sights set on the bahamas. Over the bahamas and then in the general direction of florida. The eye is not a perfect circle, so it may not be as strong as 5 00 as it was earlier today and last night. Theres a close up of it. If it was a strong category 4, you would expect it to be perfectly round. Still a very powerful storm, though. Hurricane watch in effect from Palm Beach County up towards cape kcanaveral and a Tropical Storm watch from the ft. Lauderdale area all the way down through miami and the florida keys. Much of the Florida East Coast is going to be significantly impacted by this. Its still a category 4 as of the latest advisory, which is again, extremely strong. But a right turn is more likely now by the time it gets up near the carolinas and that would lessen the impact on the carolinas over the weekend. That was the latest information, moving north at 10 miles an hour. Then expected to move toward the west, towards florida, and then to the right. So its kind of a tricky curve this is going to be taking and this cold front is going to be determined and how fast that turn does come. And my thinking is that its going to be closer to florida than that earlier shot and farther offshore than that earlier track in our portion of the world. The Dentists Office had been trying to get a refund for a package the post office lost nearly three years ago. Hey, chris, its june, anything going on . Reporter you might call her a one woman band. June is the woman who wears several hats at this drexel hill Dentists Office. I schedule all the appointments, answer the phone of course, everything, do the billing, listen to dr. K. When dr. You can see the center go very close to the eastern tip of cuba and we have a hurricane watch in effect from Palm Beach County up toward cape canaveral, and a Tropical Storm watch down to the florida keys. As we get closer, because its still a couple of days away from florida. Last we saw was still a category 4 with 145mileperhour winds. But the latest computer guidance over the last 24 hours is suggesting more of a right turn once it gets near the carolinas. That wouldnt help florida any. But it would cause les of an impact on our weekend if that trend continues. 145mileperhour winds at the last advisory, moving north at 10. So in just a few minutes, these numbers are going to change, and lets see how they change, the winds might come down a touch. And well see if the speed or direction changes any. That was the last forecast track from the Hurricane Center, still keeping it pretty strong, even saturday, 105mileperhour winds near the north and South Carolina borders, but as of now, the last data we have seen, i would put it a little bit farther to the west, more of a direct threat to florida and then curve more sharply to the right. And the Hurricane Center tracks tend to be smoother just to try to average things out. So heres thecomputer model, the american model keeping it close to the Florida East Coast. And the european model has it coming closer to florida. And perhaps another landfall near the South Carolina coast and then that right turn. Saturday we could have some showers, but thats with the front thats coming through, the may have been area rain with matth matthew, would stay well to the south and east of our area, if it makes that sharper right turn. Just a little bit of a turn is going to be critical as to what kind of weekend youre going to have. Right now, its cloudy, its in the 60s, its not real pretty, but its going to get nicer. Wednesday, thursday, friday, looking good, saturday, some showers, with that cold front, not necessarily with matthew. And now we have actually taken rain out of the forecast for sunday. The category 4 storm made landfall in haiti with winds upwards of 140 miles an hour. The hurricane has pounded the southwestern coast of haiti, its a rural corner of the impoverished country. Its expected to make a direct hit in guantanamo, home to the u. S. Military base and also a small cuban city. The u. S. Navy ordered the evacuation of 700 spouses of children of Service Personnel as that storm approached. The nbc 10 First Alert Weather Team is breaking down what these models mean for the caribbean as the u. S. Lets go right to meteorologist Sheena Parveen for these details. The caribbean is still dealing with a very strong hurricane. There it is, Hurricane Matthew, a welldefined eye moving towards guantanamo at the bottom. And this is still a category 4, as of the latested a viery, winds are still sustained about 140 miles an hour. Thats five miles an hour less than the last update. But thats not much difference. Its moving to the north at 9 miles an hour, so a decent speed up to the north would be putting it in the bahamas in the next 24 hours or so. So were going to keep watching it as it goes north.
