Slushy side, temperatures marginal meaning around freezing. So not very supportive of wet slushy snow. But well be seeing slippery spots on the roadways. Around the philadelphia area, temperatures right around freezing, some light snow around too. And areas farther north and west through the Lehigh Valley you should be below freezing with the chance of light snow but the biggest accumulation those are in south jersey and delaware. They are not very big but ill show you how much you may be able to expect and also a look at the sevenday forecast because its going to feel like spring very soon. Thats all coming up. Looking forward to that. Thanks. As you plan for the morning keep checking the nbc 10 app for the up to date information. You can follow the radar or watch the latest forecast. The next republican president ial debate is about four hours away but theres debate under way between the parties last nominee for president and the frontrunner hoping to win the nomination. Were talking about mitt romneys Harsh Criticism of donald trump. The 2012 gop nominee for president came out swinging at the man who once supported him. Heres what i know. Donald trump is a phony. A fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from trump university. Hes playing the members of the American Public for suckers. He gets a free ride to the white house, and all we get a lousy hat. Woman knee said any of the other republican candidates would make a better nominee for president. He also said a trump nomination would guarantee a Hillary Clinton victory for the white house. But trump had the last word at a rally in maine today. New jersey governor christie certainly not shy about criticizing the media but today nothing was off limits. So i am here today to answer every one of your questions. And he did. For almost two hours. See how he responded to a flurry of questions including that look there on his face behind donald trump. Also this one is for the birds. One city tired of the making messes like this, so they have come up with a new idea to try to stop it. Plus a man in a wheelchair shot and killed by police, his family is taking action, why they claim this shooting was not justified. I wasnt upset, i wasnt angry, i wasnt despondent. Today new Jersey Governor Chris Christie fought back, the governor defended himself against calls that he should resign from office. And christie insisted he will not stop stumping for donald trump. Today he insisted he is focused on state business, while seven newspapers in new jersey and six more called for the governor to step down claiming he made the state a distant priority to his personal ambition including support for trump. He has been taking heat also over the way he looked as he watched trump speak on super tuesday. I dont know what i was supposed to be doing. I was standing there listening to him. And you know, all these like armchair psychiatrists, like should give it a break. Christie says he was just paying close attention to trump. The governor says he plans to take a few days off with his wife, to celebrate their anniversary. Chris christie has thrown his support behind donald trump mitt romney has gone on the attack. Kelly odonnell joins us live from washington. Thanks for being here once again. Both romney and trump, former allies but now they are not mincing words in their attacks against each other today. Whats the buzz on capitol hill where you are about this back and forth between these two guys . Reporter well, jim, these are complicated relationships because you also have Chris Christie who you were talking about who says he is very close to mitt romney, which is simply disagrees with governor romney on his assessment of the republican field. Certainly far apart when it comes to donald trump. And here on capitol hill were hearing a mix of things, there are members of the Republican Party here who are very worried about the impact of a trump candidacy and perhaps even a presidency, on what their party would be able to do, and would there be a negative effect on other republican races like house seats and senate seats and so forth. And then there are also those who are saying this is dangerous for the Party Establishment to be telling voters how they should think or who they should vote for and that could backfire and that republicans who are in sort of establishment positions should listen to the voters. And so, its a real mix and its the kind of issue that is getting people very emotionally animated about this. You know the old rule under the Republican Party that it was called the 11th commandment of ronald reagan. Do not speak ill of another republican because when you do, its possible democrats could use that against them in a race later on. So there are land mines all over this if republicans dont weigh in, dont counter trump on some of the things that many find offensive, that has a risk, if they push too hard they might push voters right in his direction. Kelly, rosemary here with jim. Let me ask you a question. Sorry. Thats okay. Speaking of the Party Establishment it appears that in mitt romneys speech it was one of the most critical weve heard from anybody in the gop establishment, his words have gotten support from another former republican, president ial nominee john mccain. Can we expect big name republicans to come out to try to stop donald trump to speak out against him . Reporter well, its a real difficult question because some are trying to raise money to be in outside groups that could help blunt the momentum that donald trump is showing, and when you mention john mccain who was the nominee in 2008, he had been saying as most former nominees typically do that they would support whomever the party nominates. Now, john mccain is saying that on the issue of national security, that after republicans about 60 republicans with expertise in Foreign Policy and national security, raise questions about trumps temperament, knowledge, ability to serve as commander in chief, so mccain, too, is saying maybe people need to be careful about this. Will others come forward . I think many are taking a kind of day by day approach. Usually calculating it on how their own constituents might be feeling about this. Do they have a primary coming up, do they have sort of a dog in the fight. And that will determine it. This is really splitting the party. Back to you, rosemary and jim. Kelly, one thing we can agree on, a wild political election season. Thanks so much. You bet. Appreciate it. Kelly odonnell in washington, d. C. Also tonight encouraging news about tourism in new jersey. Thats right. More and more people want to visit the state and not just the shore. Nbc 10s reporter Ted Greenberg explains. In atlantic city, Ted Greenberg, nbc 10 news. Lets head to delaware. If you like to see the birds in wilmington it could soon be against the law. Nbc 10 was in Cold Springs Park you can see the damage caused by bird droppings. The council is expected to vote on an ordinance making it illegal to feed pigeons, ducks and wild animals on public property. Officials blame the ban on a few people whose excessive feeding created a mess in the parks. Technically it was a day off for four department of Homeland Security service dogs. They were the focus of a hearing. White they may have had a break from duty these dogs were working the room from the moment they walked in. Look at him go. Sniffing everything. Keeping a keen eye on everyone in the room. They were the center of attention at a hearing about the contributions they make to americas security. Its all well and good we have the people at ports of entry at airports and the border, that we have the technology but in certain places the dogs more than anything else really add a great element and make us safer. The port of wilmington is one of north americas top ports for imports of fruit. The dogs play an Important Role there and at amtrak stations in the first state. Well, we have snow coming as we go into tonight and tomorrow morning, but really depends where you live as far as the morning commute goes. Either way were tracking snow moving in late tonight. Messy morning commute mostly for new jersey and delaware. Its going to be hard for the snow to accumulate because of the temperatures and also its on the slushy side. Thats the type of snow we expect and with the sun angle a lot of different factors come into play. So well look at that in a second. Otherwise once all of this is gone we can look to next week. Its going to feel like spring and temperatures will be in the 70s at least one day next week. Live look out on the ben franklin bridge, overcast skies but the clouds are moving in and thats all ahead of the next weather system thats going to bring us snow. So temperaturewise well be dropping to around freezing or a couple degrees below, as we go overnight tonight. So heres 3 00 in the morning around 30 degrees, thats when the snow will be falling across part of the area. Thats going to linger into the morning commute. But with temperatures being so marginal, not too low below freezing and maybe even a couple degrees above. Some of the snow will have a hard time accumulating. Especially on the roadways. Locally were dry, a little light snow to develop around maryland down to the south. The bulk of the moisture that is still off to our west. So this is the area that were watching as we go into tonight. And tomorrow morning. So its not a lot of snow, again, but the timing of it not going to be good because a lot of people will be on the roadways tomorrow. Here is future weather, so tonight we watch as the snow moves in, temperatures not dropping too much, but once the snow starts falling it wilt cool things down more. 11 00 p. M. South jersey and delaware there you see the snow on the lighter side. Its going to be that wet snow kind of slushy and temperatures look at this, still a couple degrees above freezing. Thats why its hard to accumulate. By early tomorrow morning maybe some scattered snow showers around by 6 00 a. M. Around the philadelphia area, maybe even north and west of that, temperatures still around freezing and by 9 00 in the morning we could see a better band forming in new jersey and delaware as this whole thing tries to move offshore. This is the time we would maybe have the best chance of accumulation because some of that could be on the more moderate side and if its heavy enough it will start to stick, too light its going to melt because temperatures will be staying above freezing in the morning. By noon tomorrow a lot of this moves out. As you can see its not a big storm and were going to have a little bit of trouble getting a lot of that to be accumulating. But if anything maybe a delay for the schools in the morning. As far as the roads are concerned with the snow moving in, with the marginal temperatures like i mentioned lighter snow, it would be ease yesh to melt. If it gets heavier it will have a chance of sticking either way since it is slushy snow its going to be slippery so be careful driving for the morning commute, School Delays in new jersey and delaware possible. As far as the School Closings because of this i highly cloud it. But well have all of the details on nbc 10 right here with any delays for your School Tomorrow morning and also on the nbc 10 app and online. What to watch for though, areas of heavier wet snow because that would be lowering visibility. As far as totals are concerned really not much less than an inch north and west, up to an inch around philadelphia. And with the heavier areas maybe 1 to 2 inches. We will see that snow falling in the morning, while the cars are on the roadways, so take your time be careful. For tonight, light snow, late tonight some slick spots too. Since it is going to be the wet snow. 31 philadelphia, 25 for the low north and west. Tomorrow snow in the morning, mainly new jersey and delaware. But gradual clearing through the afternoon, high temperatures right around 40 degrees. Then we go into themond. Mid40s, cloudy on saturday. There is a chance we could see a couple showers early sunday. Not a big deal but temperatures in the mid40s on sunday. Well be watching that, going into next week look at the warmup. 68 by tuesday, and sunny, 72 on wednesday. Its going to feel like spring. Thanks, sheena. You will definitely want to keep an eye on the nbc 10 first alert radar the next few hour, snow is moving in tonight and it could cause problems as you head off to work and school in the morning. Lets get an update from sheena parveen. This is moving in from the south, right . Yeah. Delaware and new jersey are going to be the ones to start to see the snow late tonight. Then other parts but this is not a big storm. Kind of unorganized too. This is the area were watching. Its getting closer but the bulk of it still off to our west here, so thats what were going to be watching late tonight and into the morning commute tomorrow. Right now, though, we are dry. Trying to form some snow down to the south. But really its not until later tonight when we expect that to move in. Maybe around 10, 11 00 and then well see it around for the morning commute. Temperaturewise this is going to be parpt t of the reason the sn will be harder to accumulate. About the mid to upper 30s but by the time the snow moves in well still be around freezing, some areas could be a couple degrees above freezing, maybe a little below freezing but its not going to be easy for the snow to stick unless its on the heavier side. So heres a look at future weather tonight, temperatures stay in the 30s, not looking at teens. By 11 00 there you see the snow south jersey and delaware and really its all going to be snow even with temperatures a couple degrees above freezing its going to make it harder to stick to any pavement. So most of the snow falling should be melting. Then well see it moving in overnight, kind of breaking up, then by 6 00 tomorrow morning there you still see snow around the philadelphia area, south jersey and delaware. But its not going to be very heavy. And we dont expect much in the way of accumulation. The problem will be the timing of this lowering visibility, causing slippery spots on the roads, so coming up ill show you more about the morning commute and some 70degree temperatures in the forecast, too, straight ahead. All right. Well see you soon. A family wants answers, they watched police in wilmington shoot and kill their loved one in this cell phone video here. In decision 2016, today mitt romney has given a huge boost to the main stream republican effort to try to stop donald trump from winning the gop nomination. When the republicans debate tonight in detroit, ben carson will be gone. The republican field is shrinking, with big guns trained on the frontrunner. Senator toomeys office responded to the protest saying he, quote, appreciates feedback from his constituents and hearing their concerns, it is for this reason he travels across the state and hosts f forums. Well, clouds increased this afternoon and its ahead of snow. So we are tracking snow going into tonight and that will be lasting for the morning commute. Tomorrow morning part of the area will see a messy morning commute with the snow falling, low visibility kind of y, some slick spots expected so be careful driving. Ill show you which areas in a minutement otherwise once this is over and we get past this week, were looking ahead to 70degree temperatures next week of it its going to feel a lot like spring as we go into next week. Not so much this week. Right now were in the 30s but still above freezing. Mid to upper 30s for south jersey and delaware and the temperatures will be part of the reason why the snow tonight and tomorrow morning will be hard to accumulate. Right now on radar, light snow down to the south and west approaching washington, but we are still dry. And the bulk of the moisture wont get here after 10 00 tonight lasting into early tomorrow morning. So if you look back off to the west, the area that i circled here. Thats the area that were watching for the overnight hours. Now, this is not a big storm, we will be seeing snow falling but like i mentioned a little hard to accumulate. Your future weather, overnight tonight we stay mostly dry, if you are north and west of philadelphia but by length clock p. M. You see the snow moving in. If you look at the temperatures, were pretty much around freezing. So when we have temperatures like that combined with wet snow its hard for to the stick to the roadways. Then we go overnight tonight, the snow kind of scattered and then by early tomorrow morning 6 00 a. M. , we still expect snow to be falling across part of the area. But you see its not a very organized system and certainly isnt very heavy as it moves through. Then once it tries to move out well get the back edge that could be a little more organized so for south jersey and delaware for the morning commute this is i think our main concern. But the temperatures when the snow is falling still above freezing in some spots. So again, that snow is going to be harder to accumulate. By noon starts to move out and through the afternoon, were clearing. And well see nicer conditions developing. That will be going into the weekend. For the snow fall as we go into tomorrow, as far as the roads are concerned with the temperatures being kind of marginal, the lighter snow a better chance of melting. If the it gets heavier it could stick but either way its going to be slushy type of snow. So we do expect slippery spots around. Be careful tomorrow morning because it will be during the morning commute for part of the area. And School Delays will be a possibility. Mostly in new jersey and delaware, doesnt look like a cancellation but of course any delays we would have on nbc 10, also the nbc 10 app and on nbc10. Com. What you need to watch in the morning, areas of heavier wet snow will be here watching that too because it will be lowering the visibility. Now i mentioned its not a very big storm so less than an inch through areas like the Lehigh Valley and in the poconos, maybe up to an inch around philadelphia and then 1 to 2 inches for new jersey and delaware. With the sun angle and everything starting to change now, and those marginal temperatures again that snow is going to be falling but its going to be hard to really pile up to amount to much. Light snow moving in, slick spots late tonight, 3 within for the low in philadelphia, 25 areas north and west. Then tomorrow well see snow in the morning, mostly new jersey and delaware. Well, we heard what fans think about the eagles resigning sam bradford. What bradford had to say about the teams playoff hopes for next year. Thats coming up next. Well, its official. Today sam bradford signed on as the eagles quarterback for two years and hes talking about his decision to stay in philly. Amy is joining us from comcast sportsnet. Amy, he got what he wanted really. He did. He made no bones about the fact that he wanted to stay here in philadelphia, he even went so far as to say that free agent market wasnt even a factor leading up to him staying here with the eagles. Here is a picture that the eagles tweeted out of bradford signing his twoyear deal today after signing that contract he didaddress the media and was asked whether he believe this is team can be a playoff team under his leadership. Yeah. You know, like i said, i think weve got a great group of guys in that locker room. I think weve got a great team. Obviously the last year was disappointing for everyone and the organization especially for the guys in that locker room who put so much time into it. I think we all believe in ourselves, we believe in the guys that we have here right now. And we know its on us to go out and perform at a level that was higher than what we did last year. But i think if we do that, we showed signs of it last year at times. I think weve got to be more consistent. Certainly that is the name of the game in making the playoffs. Coming up he talks about his new head coach Doug Pederson and would he have preferred a longer contract. Well have that and more coming up at 6 00. Thanks so much for that, amy.
