Pretty much standing room only as crowds came together to witness the Solar Eclipse along the ben franklin parkway. Some skipped work. Others celebrated their birthdays. I have never seen a Solar Eclipse before. It was really cool, like, to see it be covered and just like see all the space of it. And then when it was when the moon was like moving again, it was so cool to see it like just it was just really cool. I dont know. I loved it. Inside the fels planetarium, thousands enjoyed a front row seat with nasas live stream. Seems like everyone stopped what they were doing to watch the eclipse today, even the staff at the white house. Vice president mike pence, attorney general sessions and ivanka trump could be seen checking out the suspect kl in the sky. Here at home, we werent in the path of totality. No. But we got a pretty good spectacle. Meteorologi meteorologistkrystal klye explains what crossed the path. Reporter im here at Westchester University and people were here looking at a viewing party and everyone still seemed happy and some disappointed it wasnt completely dark. Look at the ground. What you see on the shadow is very dark shadow and along the edge, say holding out a piece of paper, it is fuzzier along the edge. First thing, thats the sun, the moon and the earth to all line up perfectly and takes quite sometime to happen. On top of that, you need something thats amazing. The moon is 400 times smaller than the sun and 400 times closer than the sun than the earth is and thats why that very small area the path of totality. Thats the part of the shadow thats the umbra. For us, were in the penumbra. Today we saw 75 of the sun obscured by the moon. Still pretty impressive. I have so ai really enjoyed it. The storms are stationary and causing flooding there. We have a couple of issues for tomorrow. First thing, first alert, for the heat and humidity combination, from philadelphia southward, does not include the beaches because its a sea breeze tomorrow. Thats from 2 00 to 6 00 p. M. Temperatures into the mid90s. The feels like temperature when you add that high humidity, 100 to 105. Northern portions of our area, theyre closer to the severe thunderstorms that are likely to hit central and western pennsylvania late tomorrow. Thats why i have the first alert out there from 8 00 p. M. Tuesday to 2 00 a. M. Wednesday. So thats later in the night, of course. And the later you go at night, the more likely to weaken. Budajing winds still possible especially north and west. The high humidity makes it feel like 100 to 105. We have another first alert for different part of the area, these are for pennsylvania counties and this is 8 00 p. M. Tuesday to 2 00 a. M. Wednesday. By the time the line of thunderstorms gets into south jersey and delaware, it may have weakened so much that its not severe. So damaging winds possible. A lot of lightning and some small hail. Right now, temperatures are in the mid80s. We have a little more sunshine, philadelphia now than we did an hour ago. A lot of sun in the Lehigh Valley that we have seen in the day today. And that is helped push the temperatures up. And Lehigh Valley to get to 90 or a little bit above tomorrow and not into the Dangerous Levels. Warnerville 79. White hall 85. Bethlehem 84, as well as easton. Like i said, all the places are going to be close to 90 or maybe a little bit above tomorrow. Feels like temperatures 91 in wilmington. 90 in vineland. 87 in philadelphia. So were certainly nowhere near the Dangerous Levels today. Tomorrow, it is a different story. Look at these feels like temperatures. 2 00, 4 00, getting close to 100. Maybe in between it could hit the triple dpiigits there. Not as high. Thats why i dont have the first alert out for those counties. This is what we do with neighborhood weather. And oh. It was just amazing. You saw that beautiful solar corona behind the sun or behind the moon i should say. Everyone started to point out and couldnt figure out what they were pointing at. It was venus. Everything got much darker, not middle of the night dark but pretty dark and it was absolutely amazing. People earlier were talking about how great it was that they could come together and not talk about things like tragedies or things that divide us. They were here all on the same page, everything brought what brought us together today was the Great American total eclipse. Ish say theyre still together out on the highways. 50,000 people left right after totality finished and talked to highway patrol. They have been out stuck out there for a little while. Lets go over the dates and the last Solar Eclipse, that was in february of 1979. The last coast to coast Solar Eclipse, a Great American eclipse, that was almost 100 years ago. Back in june of 1918. So this is really a once in a lifetime event we experienced here in america today. Now lets pop up the map we have. The map itself might be chaotic seeing it with the yellow lines across the country and guide you through this. First off, the next Solar Eclipse throughout the United States. Thats april 2024. Like keith said. That goes from texas up to maine so you see that line there. Thats april of 2024. And then the next coast to coast Solar Eclipse. That will be august of 2045. And you can see that, somewhat similar path to what we experience or have experienced today and then here it is for you in philly and our surrounding areas.
