Back to our Live Convention coverage. All eyes tonight on Bernie Sanders. The most anticipated speech of the night open to loud applause on the convention floor. Thank you. Sanders spoke to the crowd. Some visibly moved while others chanted feel the bern. He spoke about the need to elect Hillary Clinton and defeat donald trump. And he called on the party to unite. I hope you take enormous pride in the historical accomplishments we have achieved. Sanders speech follows the ongoing controversy over the suspected leak of dnc emails that led to the resignation of dnc chair Debbie Wasserman schultz and forced her off the stage earlier tonight. We continue our Team Coverage now here at the Wells Fargo Center with nbc 10s lauren mayk. She has reaction to Bernie Sanders big speech. Tell us what people are saying there in the ground. Reporter well, jim, i saw a lot of emotion out here. And of course there were the tears and there was the chanting but there were even tears out here. This was a big moment for Bernie Sanders and his supporters. I have one of those supporters here with me right now. This is anna payne. Shes from bucks county. Shes a delegate here for Bernie Sanders. Tell me what it was like to watch that, to listen to that tonight. I think its very inspiring because i think bernie really talked about the issues and the issues that the sanders supporters have been fighting so hard for and that we deeply care about. I know there was a lot of heartbreak on the floor today and earlier even today when we met with sanders. That you know, coming to the realization that hes not probably going to be the nominee. Do you think that you could vote for secretary clinton . I think right now im focused on like he announced tonight being able to vote for him in the roll call. You know, thats what we worked so hard for and were very excited about being able to do nappy think since senator sanders is so confident that secretary clinton will meet us on the platform and will try to work to bring some of these issues forefront, we have to keep pressure on them, though. Its not just the president that matters, senate matters, congress matters. It starts from the bottom up. Thats where the change really begins. So we need to start staying active and keep staying involved. I dont see myself not voting for secretary clinton in the fall. I want to be able to keep the dreams of Bernie Sanders and his supporters alive. And the only way to do that is to elect a democratic president. All right, anna, thank you so much. We continue our coverage of the Democratic National convention anywhere philadelphia tonight. Several local lawmakers delivered speeches to those gathered in the crowd, and that included congressman Brendan Boyle and senator bob casey of pennsylvania and philadelphia mayor jim kenney. And nbc 10s George Spencer is live at the Wells Fargo Center with me here. The mayor hay message about immigration that was really interesting and rooted in history. Jim, a message of immigration and Philadelphia City history. All evening the democrats message has really focused on unity, unity within their party, unity across the country, and earlier tonight the city of philadelphia itself, its history and its Current Events took center stage. Yo, pennsylvania. Reporter from center stage at the convention to a worldwide audience, mayor jim kenney told the story of philadelphias immigrants, the story of his own irish family, and he contrasted that story with the antiimmigrant theme that these democrats say infuses the campaign of republican donald trump. Whether our families came to this country in 1776 or 1976 or 2016, this country belongs to all of us. Reporter the mayor also described his recent soda tax victory, telling this crowd it was a hardfought win like the battle theyre all now facing in november. But the fact is that meaningful change never happens all at once. You have to fight for it. Its a welcoming party. Reporter former City Council Member marian tasco says the democrats welcoming message matches well with the home citys own history. So now we should not talk about getting rid of people or deporting people. That makes up america, the United States. I thought mayor kenney did a great job, especially, you know, tracing back to the irish opposing the irish immigrants in 1840. His own background. Its very powerful. Reporter and that message on immigration popped up again and again tonight on the democratic stage among the headliners and among the nonheadliners. The Democratic Party working clearly hard tonight to present themselves as the party of diversity. Jim . George spencer, thank you. A rising star in the Democratic Party, new jersey senator cory booker, earned himself a primetime slot on night 1 of the dnc. The vp finalist touted clintons experience and kept with the theme of the night uniting the party. We are the United States of america our best days are ahead of us and together with Hillary Clinton as our president america, we will rise booker said we dont always have to agree but we must build bridges across our differences to pursue the common good. Can i just say to the bernie or bust people, youre being ridiculous. Bernie sanders supporters reacting strongly to that remark from comedian Sarah Silverman tonight. She joined senator al franken to introduce music legend paul simon, who performed here tonight. We also saw singer demi lovato and philly favorites boyz ii men as well. Jim, well see you shortly as you look ahead to tomorrows agenda. Okay. Turning now to the weather, it was a wild night with hail, heavy rain, and flooding. Sheena parveen joining us now with what we can expect for the rest of the workweek. Yeah, jacqueline, a lot of this has already left the area. So most of us already clearing out. But if youre along the shore, new jersey, Atlantic City seeing some of that rain still even points sxouth even if youre up into parts of ocean county. Ship bottom seeing some heavier rain. Ocean city seeing some of that heavier rain right now. Cape may county, though, pretty much in the clear. But some heavier rain just north of sea isle city. And if youre in delaware, mostly Sussex County right around milford some heavy rain there as well as well as in maryland. That could be moving into southern parts of kent county here. But its mostly Sussex County in delaware. Seeing that heavier rain. Heres some of the rainfall from today. We have flooding across the philadelphia area for a pretty good amount of time with heavy rain that was very slow to move. So we saw about 3 1 2 inches or more on the ground. Radar estimated. And a lot of roads even reporting flooding around the philadelphia area with mostly 2 1 2 to 3 inches. Through the Lehigh Valley we had the round of storms begin there and rainfall totals anywhere from about two to three inches mostly. And we had a lot of heavy rain earlier in the Lehigh Valley with very gusty winds. The good news is for the rest of tonight we will continue to clear out of the rain. The clouds will continue to break a bit. And for tomorrow well be dry but it will be another hot day. Feeling like 100 degrees or hotter tomorrow. Actual temperatures will be back in the 90s. If you see that 70 at the bottom of your screen it shows we are done with the heat just yet. We also have some thunderstorm chance thats will come back into the forecast as we go into your weekend. So primarily looks like friday and saturday. Well show you that in a second. Take a look at the future. Feels like temperature, we go into your tuesday. Look at the afternoon highs, or at least the feels like for the afternoon highs. Anywhere from about 100 to 105, some of the highest feels like temperatures. Its going to be another hot and humid day tomorrow. We do get a break as we go into wednesday. Not as humid. Temperatures slightly lower. Well still be around 90 degrees for that feels like. So take a look at that break im talking about. Today we hit a record high of 96 degrees. We saw it as hot as 108 in philadelphia. Tomorrow 105, feig as hot as 103. Wednesday 94. I dont think well feel much hotter than that. But then by thursday the humidity comes back a little more to medication feel a few degrees hotter. Still looking at the mid 90s. We are going to stay in the stretch of the 90s for a while. The heat wave continues. Tomorrow, wednesday, thursday, mid 90s. Friday thunderstorms return near 90 degrees. Saturday scattered afternoon storms, 87 and were going to hover right around the upper 80s even as we go into next week. That rain chance you see friday and saturday, primarily some scattered afternoon thunderstorms but either way temperatures are not going to be too much of a cooldown anytime soon. Jacqueline . Thousands of pets found their forever families over the weekend thanks to our clear the shelters event locally. More than 4,000 animals have been adopted since july 2nd. More than 1,000 on saturday alone. The Providence Animal Center and media found homes for more than 100 homeless pets at the Atlantic CountyAnimal Shelter 57 cats and 38 dogs were adopted. There were almost 20,000 Democratic Party emails leaked over the weekend. Actually, people were even more shocked to find out there were 20,000 emails hillary hadnt deleted yet. Ill get backstage tickets and ill introduce you guys to beyonce after the show. Jimmy yeah. So first of all, the show went great. And i introduced beyonce, even though i hadnt met her yet. Introduced her, and i should have had cool points by proxy just off that. Jimmy exactly. Youre close enough. Yeah, and i should have stopped there. Because what i did was after the show, im, like, girls, lets go down the hallway by beyonces dressing room. When she comes out to leave, ill say hi and introduce you guys. So sure enough, we go down there, the girls are all excited. Beyonce comes out of the dressing room and i go, beyonce, you were great tonight. And she goes, so were you, brian [ laughter ] she thought i was brian adams. [ laughter ] so i and, meanwhile, i go, thanks, beyonce [ laughter ] see you later youre the best of the cool, take care. And were at the computer making up some jokes for the rest of the show, and a lady walks in with a Canary Yellow jacket, a bright flaming orange neon shirt and, a neon orange sneakers with jeans. And she goes, rod stewart needs to change in here, is that okay . I go, yeah. So he finishes his number, true story. Finishes his number, he comes off stage, he walks in and he goes, hey boys. Hes got a big glass of wine, i dont know where he got that. [ laughter ] takes off his jacket, takes off his shirt, kicks off his shoes, takes off his pants, buck naked in front of us. [ laughter ] rod stewarts ass is across the room, and im literally, im just lasered in on it. [ laughter ] im just like, im staring at rod stewart. Jimmy no, dont do that.
