But lets start with our top story. Hillary clintons president ial campaign is off and running. And less than one day in shes already going about things differently than the way she did in 2008. Hillary clinton is expected to arrive here in iowa this evening, but shes on the road today driving here from new york with a few aides and with the secret service at the wheel. Theyre in a vehicle that clinton has dubbed the Scooby Doo Van. If she learned one lesson in 08 is you cant take this state or anything else in politics for gran announcing her second bid for the white house in a sleek online video, Hillary Clinton declared im hitting the road. Not a coronation. People will come with questions so she needs to be prepared with answers. They are criticizing clinton on a number of issues including using her personal email while serving as secretary of state. That has begun to resonate with some voters. Notice there was nothing on Foreign Policy nothing on making washington work. She wants to be an everyday economic fairness. And well hear a lot about grandmother. If she wants to make it shes going to try to make it about Everyday Americans and average families. The republicans are going to try to make it about one thing. Hillary clinton. Because she comes to this position with a lot of political baggage. Even personal baggage. Whos going to win that battle . I think its tough for her. It really depends on who the republican is. If jeb bush is her opponent theyre going to have a tough time making it about the past. If its marco rubio we had a poll that said candidates think her policy are more about the past than a new direction. You asked does she have a vision for the future. 51 say its a return to policies of the past. Vision needed for the future 44 . What about inspiring young voters . We hear so much about the need to get those young voters out. Barack obama did it twice. Can Hillary Clinton at this stage of her career do the same thing . Think about this. People under the age of 38 have never seen anybody with the name clinton on a general election president ial ballot. So it is all about reintroducing herself to people under the age of 40. Now, what the Clinton Campaign will tell you is the idea of electing a first woman president is what inspires young americans. They say that is the key to unlocking millennials. You mentioned rubio expected to announce on the republican side. His candidacy today. How much impact does he have . He could have big impact. Rubio as a republican nominee is somebody that scares them. By the way his candidacy today, Hillary Clintons announcement today. Put it together its a bad week to be jeb bush. The officer suggests he jot down his thoughts once his adrenaline stops pumping. Slager responds with a laugh. Its bumping. Oh yeah. Reporter slager said scott grabbed his taser but three days later slager was charged with murder. He has not yet entered a plea. Meanwhile this morning, North Charleston is a community trying to heal. Weve had a hard week. Reporter it was a week that followed the shooting of walter scott by Michael Slager and ended with hugs and hand shakes from the mayor. Officials in tulsa, oklahoma are investigating the Fatal Shooting of a man trying to flee an undercover gun deal. On sunday Police Released video of the incident that took place earlier this month. App volunteer deputy said he thought he was pulling out his taser but mistakenly grabbed his gun shooting the suspect who later died. Prosecutors are considering whether to file charges against the reserve deputy. At least ten cars of a Freight Train derailed and overturned during the night in colorado springs. Some of the cars carrying raw ammonia fertilizer. No reports of injury but residents nearby were told to stay indoors. One person is dead after a lamborghini crash at a popular walt disney attraction. They went to the exotic driving course after a driver slammed into the guardrail. Tickets available today. All right. Up next super simple the recipe. First this is today on nbc. We are back at 8 45 kicking off a special weeklong series in the kitchen. Dishes full of flavor and easy to put together. Katie lee is cohost of the kitchen. Good to see you. Good morning. Before we get to your recipe youre going to talk skillet. Everyone has one or two of these. Hi how are you . Not everyone. Hoda is sitting here. Most people have one or two of these. Are they created equal . No. Everyone should have an iron skillet though. Theyre really inexpensive and they can last longer than a life time if you take care of it properly. All shapes and sizes. Everybody talks about you need to season the skillet. How do you do that . Most skillets are sold preseasoned but its good to still continue to season it. So what you do, because cast iron is really porous you need to seal it with some fat. Pour oil in. And then wipe it and put it into the oven for about an hour. Then when it comes time to clean it thats important because you dont want to use soap. This is kind of an untraditional cleaning meth. Because that reverses everything youve done. Yes. What you want to do is give it a quick wipe as soon as youre done using it while its still warm. If somethings stuck, take some salt and put it on there and use a soft sponge and scrub it off. Then give it a quick rinse. Moisture is the enemy here. You want to be sure its bone dry when you put it away. Give it another rub of oil, put it back in the oven for a couple of minutes and that will continue to season it and it will eventually become nonstick which a great. You are making something that screams summer. This is a blueberry peach skillet cobbler. Exactly. I feel like after this endless winter i am praying for an endless summer. This takes me there. Using an iron skillet, if you want to dump in the peaches. All of them . Theyre not in season. Do you use frozen . You can use frozen peaches. Just thaw them. You can use any fruit you like. Mix in some lemon juice there for me. Got it. And im going to make the batter. Ive got some flour here and some sugar. This is super simple. You probably have all the ingredients in your pantry. Baking powder and a little bit of salt. You just mix that up. And then you want to add the milk. Sure. Youve got an egg there . No this is melted butter. Put that in there. And this gets mixed up. And youll see its like a thicker batter. And just mix, mix mix. You want to get it kind of smooth but not overmixed. Just a little bit clumpy. Then you dollop it right on top just like that. Why do you have water boiling over there . The water boiling, this is a trick my grandma taught me. So you take sugar and corn starch and you just mix that up and this goes on top of the batter and then you pour boiling water over it. Why is that . The boiling water hits this corn starch and it starts to cook in the oven with the corn starch and makes a thick syrup. Bring that over here. I put about half a cup. And this is going to see how it goes into the corn starch. This is going to be our syrup. One of the good things about skillets it goes right into the oven. Its oven to table presentation. The skillet stays hot. You cook it for how long . About 55 minutes to an hour. See how its got that nice crunch to it . Hodas got some over there. Give it a try. I will. You want some ice cream . Nonetheless incredible. 49 years ago this woman Zella Jackson price was told at a st. Louis hospital that her premature daughter had died. Thats what she was told. However Melanie Diane gilmore she learned actually was separated from her mother. She did not die. She was separated for reasons that are still unclear at this point. But on thursday, melanie had a chance to meet the brother she never knew she had and then she met her mom. Oh my god oh my god [ screaming ] so she spent her entire life thinking that her parents had given her away. Her mother spent her life that her daughter had died. Melanie lived in oregon. Her mom lied in st. Louis. The family now plans to hire an investigator to get on this case. Attorneys investigating this. The hospital actually closed in 1979. So its unclear what happened there. But apparently nel knees children started to go on facebook to search for their background. The who am i question that is asked many times. Particularly when kids are adopted. This is something i put into that on the image. Its just dressing up a bird case. If you dont have one of these lying around the house, get it at the flea market or somewhere. You get the dramatic effect out of it. Then you wedge the moss around the base of the plat. Nt. Drop a cup full of water once a week. Very nice. This architectural herb garden here. Im obsessed with this. I asked al to put this together at my house. Whats great about cinder blocks, they absorb moisture and nutrients. And so the plant will draw from that and provided you keep reliable moisture in it, this is a great herb garden. Heres how we do this. You add basically you can put this modular format if you like. Then you add the blocks and lay them over top of each other. Wherever you get a void, you dig in there and plant out our plant. How do you keep the water from flowing out . Weve done a little bit of spray at the bottom here. You can see that. But its actually not necessary. Because all plants most plants dont like wet seed. Reliable filter is what you look for. The older brother was thankful because jacob was saving their home in real life. We were so moved and touched and we hired both of them. Entire family was hired. I learned so much from him. When youre on set and see a kid playing make believe its so easy to get so serious. All these oscar nominated actors working with his guy i love forever. We tell really quick the first day of shooting he starts crying. He said, mom, im just a kid and i want to have fun. I dont want to do this movie any more. I want to go home.
