Welcome to today on a friday morning. 100 chance of bright jackets here. You know what as many i thought its nice out, its friday were going to drag summer in with us. Did you call al last night . You wear the purple ill wear the blue. We didnt know which was going to wear which but its okay. The weather is our top story. A Lightning Strike sparked a large fire at a gas well in texas. And just this morning high winds are being looked at as the cause of a Train Derailment north of dallas. But the damage and concern is not limited to texas. We want to start with todays dylan dreyer. She is in Oklahoma City. Dylan, good morning to you. Reporter good morning. To get here to bridge creek, oklahoma to assess the incredible damage i flew into dallasft. Worth airport. Shortly after i left dfw, one terminal was shut down because of flooding. Passengers were stuck in planes not allowed in or out of the terminals. I had a terrifying drive from dallas to where i am now with lightning so vivid it was almost blinding. Yesterday was day two of the Severe Weather outbreak and its possible that the worst is still yet to come. Overnight it was texas under the gun. Now, thats some lifting in there. Reporter a line of dangerous storms moved into the dallas area just as i was driving through. Reporting for the Weather Channel. Im kind of just pulled off in a gas station with what looks like the rest of texas right now. It seems like were all just waiting this one out. Reporter near denton a twister generated at least three funnel clouds maintaining around the main tornado. You can see the well defined circulation. Multiple vortex. Look at them revolving around. Reporter there were tornadoes, high wind torrential rain. Driving i was nearly stopped in my tracks by flash floods. But for the most part texas dodged a bullet with no major damage. Meanwhile on thursday oklahoma got a short break from the deadly violent weather of the last couple of days. These storms are not quite packing the punch as they did yesterday. Thats good news. Reporter but the damage already done is heart breaking. I lost everything. I got to start over again. Reporter overnight this video was released shot from inside a shelter during wednesday nights storm. The cleanup is already underway. In some cases it will take months. But many residents say theyre not going anywhere. This is our home. If it hits again, it hits again. Reporter now, the stories of survival that were hearing coming out of this area are incredible. The family that lives in this home here has three small children. When the storms hit wednesday night, they went into their storm shelter only to have the door shut above them and debris on top of it. They were trapped in their storm shelter as water and gas were rushing in. Thankfully a neighbor rescued the family. They are perfectly safe at this time. But we did get a break from the severe storms in this area yesterday. But unfortunately, al it looks like today and especially tomorrow this area could be hard hit once again. Thats for sure dylan. It is going to be a rough 72 hours for that region. Lets show you what were looking at. We have severe storms firing up moving out of texas into parts of arkansas and into parts of northern mississippi. Here we go. So were going to be looking at warmer air coming up from the south. Cooler air behind it. That dry line, that yellow area thats air that funnels in and causes a lift. The storm threat today, basically dallas into san angelo 7 Million People. Overnight tonight, this is what were worried about. Overnight storms between Oklahoma City, wichita falls. 16 meal people at risk. Impossible to see. And then saturday 22 Million People at risk for this. Were talking about strong long track tornadoes. They stay on the ground for a long time. Do a lot of damage. Hail 3 inches or more in diameter. Thats going to be very very difficult. Now, lets also look at the flooding threat. Were talking about anywhere for flood watches. Some areas may pick up to 7 inches of rain. The other big story were watching off the southeastern atlantic coast. This is subTropical Storm ana. 100 miles east northeast of cape canaveral, florida. It is crawling. Lets check in with gabe gutierrez. Hes in myrtle beach right now. Things calm now, but thats going to be changing quickly, gabe. Reporter thats right, al. SubTropical Storm ana was named overnight. The watch is now in effect despite the sunny skies here this morning. The maximum sustained winds are 45 Miles Per Hour and its forecast to dump a lot of rain here and bring dangerous rip currents. From thursday the choppy waters prompted a coast guard rescue off the coast of charleston. Two people were trapped in their boat. The coast guard came in and thankfully no one was hurt. Now heres the biggest problem with this storm system. Its moving north northwest at a whopping 1 mileperhour. That means ana could linger here in this area throughout much of the weekend. Youre right. As we look at the path on the map, saturday its still out in the atlantic. Its not until monday morning early monday morning that it makes its way on shore. So were going to watch this. Because its going to be so slow look at rainfall amounts. We are talking about generally 3 to 5 inches but right here along the North Carolina coast, there could be 7 inches or more. So not only do we have to worry about that but tomorrow were calling this allseason saturday. Weve got recordbreaking heat Severe Weather. Reporter good morning to you. The fbi director says hundreds of people in the u. S. Maybe thousands, are now following jihadist social media. He says the fbi is investigating hundreds of potential homegrown extremists with cases open in every state. The fbi says the texas plot is dramatic proof of the power of isis propaganda through social media. Fbi director james comey says i know there are other Elton Simpsons out there. The isis message, he says is relentless urging followers to stage attacks. Its almost as if there is a devil sitting on the shoulder saying kill kill kill all day long. Congress is worried, too, about social media as a powerful recruiting tool. Reporter comey also disclosed that three hours before sundays attack in garland, texas, the fbi sent police there a bulletin with Elton Simpsons license and car number. But comey said the fbi had no idea that he wanted to attack it or that he left phoenix. And theres no indication that the officer who ended up shooting simpson and the other gunman nadir soofi ever saw that bulletin. Garland police declined to say what they did in response to the information, but insists they had no warning of any planned attack. The fbi says the information about Elton Simpson was not a warning because agents had no idea he left phoenix. Fascinating that it came just three hours before the attack. This was delta air lines. 81 passengers on board. At 39,000 feet alarms went off as they were over the ocean forcing them to make an Emergency Landing in South Carolina. Tense moments aboard delta flight 2028 on thursday. Passengers film as the cabin begins filling with smoke. That was the first time i experienced Something Like that so it was scary. Reporter the flight took off at 3 00 p. M. Bound for la guardia airport. But as the plane flew above the atlantic ocean, passengers began noticing smoke. White smoke came up in the front. And when i turned around. Smoke was black. Reporter delta said one of the boeings engines like this one experienced a mechanical problem. Pilots telling passengers the smoke came from oil that somehow leaked in the engine. The crew quickly rerouted to land in South Carolina. No one was injured and a new plane brought passengers into la guardia late thursday. I just felt that well get through it. I just had this feeling. Reporter delta says the engine problems are still under investigation. It issued a statement saying deltas top priority on every flight is safety and it apologizes for the delay. Thank you so much. The Justice Department expected to announce a new civil rights or rather a new civil rights investigation into the Baltimore Police department. And the citys mayor had requested a federal investigation of Police Procedures after the death of freddie gray touched off rioting there. Six Police Officers have now been charged in that case. Attorney general Loretta Lynch told congress this week that she was considering looking at whether Baltimore Police engaged in a pattern of excessive force. Police in the San Francisco bay area is searches for is sexual predator after a 13yearold girl manages to fight her off. The Surveillance Video was captured inside the girls san jose home. Reporter its a parents worst fear. Watch as a stranger follows this 13yearold girl home from school. He then forces his way into her home and forces himself on her. On april 2nd the same suspect is believed to have followed a 28yearold woman into a public restroom at a nearby Grocery Store forcing himself on her. She was also able to fight the man off. Police say both victims did the right thing by fighting back and hope these images will help them find the suspect soon. Until then members of this community in Northern California are shaken. By the way, Safety Experts say that young girl did exactly what she should have done which is to scream to fight off the predator in this case. Federal health officials, meanwhile, say texasbased Blue Bell Creameries had evidence of listeria bacteria at its oklahoma plant more than two years ago. However, a government investigation found that blue bell continued to ship ice cream from the plant despite inadequate cleaning. So the video has now been deleted from the teams website. So far no disciplinary action has been taken. And i think you would imagine at least five people. Who do you discipline for it . Why ere on the side of death . Reporter but medical expert says the legal system sees embryos differently. Even american courts are never going to look at those embryos and say they are two citizens equal to the rest of us. Expected to be a worse than usual allergy season. Allergy season is around the corner and it could be one of the worst in years. Reporter but this time we mean it. No really. Hold on to your tissues, this spring is shaping up to be the worst allergy season in years. And why . Experts say this socalled pollen tsunami is due to mother natures recordsetting winter. With at least 12 states hitting over 100 inches of snow and delaying the start of spring. Now all the molds, grasses, trees, and weeds are releasing spores all at the same time. An onslaught of pollen affecting 40 million americans who suffer with seasonal allergies. So before you start wheezing and sneezing what can you do to clear the air . And dr. Natalie azar joins us to talk about this. Pollen tsunami, sounds like we made it up. But its a terrible allergy season. It is. Couple reasons is one, we had a really late winter. Were having a bunch of different pollens converging on us. Sometimes you think do i have allergies or do i have a cold. How do you tell the difference . Three major things i like to talk about. Colds usually start kind of slow build up and last about seven to ten days. Allergies can last the entire season if you dont treat them. Colds typically in winter. Allergies can be more seasonal. As well as duration as i mentioned. Colds tend to last seven to ten days. First thing exercise indoors might be a good idea. You want to leave the pollens outside. You also want to stay indoors between 5 00 and 10 00 in the morning. Showering before going to bed at night can wash off the pollen. And then gently rinse your eyelids eyelids. Because the pollen gets stuck in the eyelashes. You want to rinse yourself of everything before you go to bed at night. All right. Thank you. Lets go inside with willie. All right. Front porches, dont worry so much about that in new york city but instead of sweeping off the front porch, you want to mop it. Sweeping will just sweep around the pollen. Get a wet mop and clean it off that way. But ive still got my clothes on. I dont want to go too far from the laundry room right . No. As soon as you enter the house, what you want to do is strip it down take the clowes off and throw them in the wash. And you yourself need to go take a shower. You want to wash that pollen out of the hair off your skin. Natalie mentioned the eyelashes. Everything. You want to get a good thorough clean before getting into bed. And speaking of your bed, you want to invest in allergy proof bedding. Because they are ris stance to things like dust mites. Lets talk about air circulation in the house. How do you keep that moving . You want to make sure the air is filtered. You want to invest in an air filter system. Something that has high efficiency filtration. And the floors . You say theres a right way and a wrong way to vacuum in allergy season. Absolutely. Hardwood floors are much better than carpeting in this situation. If you can get rid of the carpet as much as possible. Using a vacuum cleaner that has hepa filtration. Also you want to if possible if youre going to have rugs get the indoor out door rugs. And that place is such the center such the heart beat of our family. And one thing i always wanted to do because i know how much she loves to cook is do a do over in the kitchen. I think this is the best gift she would ever want. A new kitchen. I remember mom always telling me i could do anything. Like no matter what the thing was. If i wanted to play the clarinet oh youd be perfect at that. You always felt like you could do anything. Well im very close to hoda. She always call me when something happen. I call her when something happens. She says guess what i got a job on the dateline. She called me. To this day, when im 50 still with two pompoms believing in anything i can do its such a great feeling to know that someone is with you all the way. And gets to witness your life all of it. You know the good the bad, the ugly. All of it. I think there are very few times when youre on your knees in your life like a real loss or Something Like that. When i was diagnosed with cancer that was one of mine. I still remember what my cancer doctor said. Right before the surgery when she was wheeling me in mom was next to me and she looked at you and said im going to take care of your daughter. And she did. When my mom was 60 she was running a marathon. Whenever i got to a tough spot in life i remembered that marathon. I remembered thinking if she can do that, i can do this. And then after it was over mom, of course cooked for all of us. We were tired. So she cooked again. All right, mom. Youve been with me for a week. And the reason youve been staying with me in new york for an entire week and missing your apartment is because theres a surprise inside. What surprise . Oh, my gosh. Are you ready . I am. Come on. This is something a grownup will help with. You melt it in your oven and you just need some lollipop sticks. You can use wooden skewers you can find at the supermarket. The recipe still has grease on it from how many generations i dont know. Were going to cook that in a second the way she made it. Siri your mom is from iowa. And you grew up with what . That casserole. Carson didnt know what a casserole was. She made tuna casserole for me once a week. I loved it. Her version was awesome but it had the potato chips and the canned cream of Mushroom Soup. No cans except for the tuna in my version. This is basically hot oil and finely chopped onions and mushrooms. Why do you need to ruin your moms classic recipe . Im not ruining it. Im just doing an interpretation on it. Youre heightening it. Exactly. So im going to saute this for about five minutes until it gets caramelized. And then were going to add some flower because this is going to be the thickening agent. Ingredients that are easy to find in the 50s, the casserole became popular. This is nice to elevate it. Next to make the Mushroom Soup ill add whole milk and Chicken Stock and white cheddar cheese. Delicious. Because you cant have a casserole without cheese. So youre going to whisk that together for five to eight minutes until it gets thick. Then over here is the finished thickened version. I cooked my pasta prior to the segment al dente because its going to cook in the oven. So im going to add the pasta. You can do shells. Can you make wit chicken if you wanted . We made this the other day for a barbecue and it was a huge hit. You can do chicken or salmon. Now im adding the peas and the did and its just canned tuna right . Weve only got a minute left. Ive got to do my chicken. Crispy onions. With the chicken you want to soak soak this is buttermilk overnight. Im going to dredge it like my mom did in egg and flour. Season the flour if you can. His mom takes a bite of the flour to test the season. You get the seasoning in the flour. Its a Good Opportunity if you season the flour. Then were usinge ingcrisco oil. This aroma, this is synonymous with my childhood. Straight up South Carolina chicken. Unapologetic. You cook it about ten minutes on one side. It will start to crisp up. Flip it do another ten minutes. Or you can just pierce it and if the juices run clear youre good. So good. Skin is amazing. The Old Fashioned way and then a twist on iowa. This comes from the caribbean where my mom is from. I always remember this dish because when you hit the door its like it fills the house. My mom was a wonderful, loving person. For most of my childhood she weighed almost nothing. And looking back on it i realized why was because she never sat down to actually eat. She was always getting up and getting food and this and getting seconds for people. She was never sitting eating. The meat was good but the dumpling thats the best part. The dumpling absorbs the juice and meat. So very good. We would try to sneak in and get extra dumplings. And theres one added ingredient we like to put in as well. Oh yes. Bottle of wine. Red. Hearty. Something you would use in handtohand combat. This is a stick to your ribs meal. But theres vegetables in there. There are vegetables. Its healthy. Kind of. Mm. Just like momma used to make. Ox tail basically now its just the tail of a cow basically. What youre going to do is get ox tail at your local butcher. Its very simple to get. Just drizzle this with olive oil, some salt some pepper. Youre going to throw it into the oven for about 20 minutes just until it browns at about 450. So it looks like this. In me meantime while its browning you want to take carrots, leaks, celery chop it up roughly and put it all in. Saute until it starts to soften up. Then tomato paste, some sage rosemary some thyme. And then you want to add some beef broth after the wine. Then youre going to put the ox tail in here cover it up put it in the oven. 325 for about four hours. While thats happening, you make basically a biscuit. Its a biscuit dumpling mix. Its flour, baking soda some milk and butter. We put some barsparsley in to give it a health sort of thing. And youre going to drop it right in for about 18 to 20 minutes. You drop it in. You cover it up it will cook. And then you end up with this. Its delicious. Thats amazing. So savory. Phenomenal. When my mom was 60 she was running a marathon. Whenever i got to a tough spot in life i remembered that marathon thinking if she can do that, i can do this.
