They managed to pull two people out of the home but, unfortunately, we just learned within the last half an hour or so that both have died. The fire happening here at 474 burncoat street in the Greendale Dale neighborhood north of downtown. Firefighters got the call a little before 8 00 this evening. A deputy fire chief tells me it didnt look that bad from the outside but as soon as they get in he says the house was just filled with smoke and the fire was growing. Were told the victims are an elderly man and woman. Both were found unresponsive on the first floor of the two story home. The firefighters carried them out and began c. P. R. Resuscitation efforts to the hospital. Doctors there at the hospital pronounced both where they were found there wasnt a lot of fire damage. Smoke is as deadly as the fire itself. The actual cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner but unfortunately, they were unable to make an escape before it was too late. Back to a live picture now. Firefighters suspect the fire start in the basement it travelled through the walls of the home up into the second floor. They believe the Structural Integrity of the home may now be compromised and were told that the building inspector has been called in to get a closer look at the home. Also in methuen a family there is crediting their mailman with helping to save christmas at their house. Police telling fox 25 that that mailman stepped in when he noticed two men trying to break into a house and steal packages.
