Are the two Boston Police officers shot during a deadly confrontation that started as a violent domestic dispute between roommates. Both officers are stable but in critical condition, and both are expected to survive. This is the man investigators say started firing as soon as officers arrived at his partial. Police shot and killed him during the dangerous gun fight. The whole incident may have happened over a fight about the temperature inside the apartment. This was all breaking last night. There was a strong showing there for the brothers in blue. The Police Station behind me is home base for officers who work on the streets of east wounded last night. The precinct has become a rallying point, lots of visitors and a large gathering earlier tonight. So a long road. Reporter running on empty, but still very strong. The Police Commander in east boston, when it comes to his officers he sounds less like a boss and more like a worried so many people stepped up. The cop was wounded last night by a Bounty Hunter firing a tactical shotgun and wearing a bulletproof vest. The amount of agains and the amount of police that showed up. Reporter backup officers shot and killed kirk. The fire fight intense. Last night we had the two officers that were hurt and shot and today the two officers that were shot, were concerned about the officer that helped them. We pray for rishi and matt and their families. And the best thing we learn today is that both officers are expected to survive these guys lost a lot of blood but theyre now talking and conscious. These are the officers gunned down during a horrific exchange of gunfire in east boston Late Wednesday night. Matthew morris has been on the force for 12 years. Richardson tolo27. At mass general hospital, william evan and boston mayor marty walsh visited the two injured officers and their families. In 2006 officer Matthew Morris was recognized for his bravery in a confrontation with a masked medal of honor, the highest honor the state can give to a police officer. But wednesday night officer morris was shot and moments from death when a bullet hit a major another officer, while shots were being fired, saved officer morris. And one of the things, he clearly said to me, i want to thank this particular officer. He saved my life. So he knows how close he was to death. His father knew how close he was to death. But he clearly, the officer who saved his life. And that was bob ward reporting. Not only are we learning more about the officer shot, we are learning more about the troubling past of shot them. Reporter carlos rangels apartment is just yards away from where Kirk Figueroa opened fire on two Boston Police officers after a fight with his roommate and then was shot dead anytime Somebody Just pulls a gun during some kinds of argument, that breeds all sorts of chaos. Reporter chaos seemingly carried over from at least two other states. Police say he had an expired florida license to carry at the time of the shooting. The 33yearold was charged with reckless driving in cobb county georgia in 2006 and according to an indictment obtained by fox 25, figueroa pled guilty in georgia in 2010 to damaging his own car by means of fire and unlawfully representing himself to be a private detective from i didnt naturally know him very well. Residents say figueroa kept to himself and many knew he was responsible for the city of boston and a member of the army reserve. But on facebook, he was known by the alias coco shagnbel and we found videos of koran translations and multiple articles about policeinvolved shootings. He always looked like he was walking with a mission. Now, fox 25 has learned that figueroa also had claims of Domestic Violence against him by his wife, which led to their divorce. Hes expected in Court Tomorrow on multiple charges. A couple accused of killing an elderly man in orange will appear in a massachusetts courtroom tomorrow morning. Police found Brittany Smith and josh away hart in a rental truck outside a walmart in virginia on saturday. They were brought back to massachusetts last night. The pair are from athol, accused of breaking into a home in orange last week and killing 95yearold thomas hardy. How the mbta is trying to make sure trains stay on the tracks. Weve got news commuters wont want to hear. The green line had the most derail ments last year in the entire country. Three derailments in particular caught the eye of as fox 25 Chris Flanagan reports this all came out in a brandnew audit. Reporter three derailments on the green line led to a state audit of the Department Public utilities. It found the mbta was not properly maintaining its tracks or the center trucks, the wheels. It scares the mess out of you. You dont know if youre gonna make it to work or make it home. Reporter the mbta admits track conditions were a contributing factor in last summers derailment, to make them safer, the agency did a complete grinding of all 23 miles of the green line rail this past summer. Mbta tells fox 25 news, it takes the rare instances of derail ments very seriously and will keep working to address root causes and continue the implementation of corrective measures for both the short term and the long term. Its the oldest rail line in the country. You know, what are you gonna do . Gonna take money and time to do so. Reporter the audit reports also show 51 trains violating its feed at five diffent green line speeding violation april 2014, well over a year before. Firefighters snaked into the pipe from a midway hole they dug to try to push her out, walking backwards. Winston wouldnt leave her. He wouldnt leave him. He was there for comfort. He did come out at one point but we basically let him go back in there to comfort the other dog. Couple hours later, they were happy to be out safe. Theyre happy to be home tonight. Neither one of the dogs got hurt during the rescue process. Firefighters say the most difficult part of that rescue was stabilizing the drain so it doesnt collapse. What an effort. Theyll both be fighting for that big bed tonight. And the hole they had to dig just to get down there. Kind of fascinating when you look at the modern way to look computers and everything else. In mikes case, luckily his surgeon removed the mast with rounds of chemo topped off with radiation hes now cautiously optimistic about the future. I dont have a definite until five years expires, and then ill know that its not coming back. Reporter his advice for other men.
