A 28yearold man seriously hurt when he was pinned between a pair of cars of Andrew Melendez of Kittery Maine had already taken off but was arrested within minutes. One of them captured on the atm camera and the man on the left accused of three different hold ups if the last three months. He used a gun to rob people at atms after dark, police say. Blair this morning, a deadly double shooting at a high school in arizona is now being investigated as a murder suicide. It happened yesterday at a school outside of phoenix, two 15yearold girls were found dead from gunshot wounds. Police say one of the girls had left a suicide note. The sister of one of the girls was also a teacher at the school. She says she found out the worst from one of her students. One of the students said it was may and her friend. And thats when i called out to attendance and asked could i get my sisters schedule i need to know where she is at right now, first period. Im watching this arctic front, thats why were going to see conditions deteriorating. Weve had a little snow on the cape and islands. Thats moved away. That arctic front could bring a brief passing snow showers. By far the big story will be the plunging temperatures. And the 20s. But not going up any higher through the day. In fact, youll see breezy winds kicking in, 9, 10 00 in the morning. Noontime temperature 1, by 3 00, feeling like negative 7. By 6 00, feeling like negative 13. And windy conditions gusting 30, miles an hour across the board. That continues into tonight with wind chill warnings up. Ill have more coming up. But take a look behind me, you can see theres a Lowell Police officer here as well as a firefighter, slash, emt, they are here to provide Emergency Assistance for anyone who needs it. Right now, there are about 8 to 10 people still sleeping on cots here at the Senior Center. But some good news is that number could be much higher. So far no Power Outages to speak of here in lowell. Thats absolutely good news as were talking about these dangerous temperatures. And city officials are asking everyone to check on your neighbors. Go next door, knock on that door, make sure that your neighbors power is on. Because if not, absolutely let them know about this Senior Center. Where it happened on lawrence street in lowell. 15yearold on a bike argued with the driver just before the crash. Police say that white pickup truck you saw on the surveillance image then crossed the road to hit the teen. The truck was found, but not the driver. That victim is expected to survive. Several hours later, a similar incident, also in lowell. Avenue. 28yearold man hurt when he was pin between a pair of cars. Andrew melendez of Kittery Maine had took off but arrested within minutes. He was. Changed with assault with heather take a look one of the suspects captured on an atm camera and the man on the left is accused of three different hold ups just in the past month. Police say he and another man used a knife and a gun to rob people at atms after dark. You should call lynn police with any information. Blair this morning, fox 25 is working to get more information about a violent home incisionva. Right now we know one person, a suspect, is dead shot by police. Two more people are hurt. But it is not clear how theyre connected to the crime. It all started yesterday morning on devon street in dorchester. When police arrive, they found two people shot. One of them trying to get to a waiting car with the help of another man. Police tell fox 25 it was that man who was not hurt who ended up opening fire on police. Police commissioner bill evans says it all played out over the police radio. Could hear three commands. Drop your gun. Shots fired, weve got a suspect down blair there you hear the radio communications. Boston police tell fox 25 the suspect who was killed had a long police record, including threatening to kill officers. This morning, were working to learn more about the other people shot. Heather a local man facing murder charges in what police are calling a crime of passion. 70yearold john witty from berkley was in court yesterday. Hes accused of shooting John Williams, who is also 70, on two vets. Police found williams dead in his wareham home during a wellbeing check. Prosecutors believe the killing may have been sparked by a love triangle and williams had once been dating a woman living with witty. Blair two deaths in arizona, now being investigated as a murder suicide. Two 15yearold girls found dead from gunshot wound. One of the girls had left behind a suicide note. The sister of one of the girls is also a teach are at that school. She says she found out the worst one of the students said, it was may. And her friend. And thats when i called up to attendance and asked could i get my sisters schedule. I need to know where shes at right now first period. And they put me on hold for 10 minutes. This dip in the jet stream thats occurring right now is going to last right on through the rest of the weekend and let that cold air spill right down into southern new england. The good news, though, is that hasnt really happened. Its not at capacity because were being told by police that there really arent any Power Outages in this city. That is some good news. And investigates what caused this incident, we went to a traffic engineer to ask more experts say, engineers usually do try to put manholes close to the center line of most roads to limit how often cars and trucks drive over them. But even so, normal wear and tear, settling pavement, even snowplows can cause damage to those covers, causing them to become loose. Its not something thats new. Immediately drove here because they didnt have any heat. About a dozen people took advantage. Right here behind me, you can see in the front, theres a Police Officer and a well. Theyre here to provide any Emergency Assistance. So far, thankfully, though, they havent had to do any of that. And some more good news as they were telling me that Power Outages, of course, can be a big concern especially when youre talking about these dangerously cold temperatures. So far no power issues. And because of that, this Warming Center not nearly as full as it could be. Capacity. So a lot of room still left over. And city officials are saying, be a good neighbor, knock on the door next to you, check in on your neighbor, see if they have power, because, again, we are talking about lifethreatening conditions. Her friend texted her that information and taking a look at your screen, if you know of someone, take down this information, pass it along, because it truly could help save a life. And police will also give you a ride here if you need transportation. And, again, this isnt the only option if youre in another town, another city, call and see if theres a Warming Center available where you live. This is an incredible y infrequent event we decided to send the highway crews out to any kind. Blair this morning, police want to find the driver accused of hitting a teenager with his truck on purpose. Fox 25 cameras on scene in lowell yesterday when it happened in lawrence street. The 15yearold on the bike, argued with the driver just the pick up driver in the surveillance image you just show crossed the road to hit the teen. The truck was found but not the driver. That victim is expected to survive. Several hours later, though, a similar incident, also on lowell. This one cadell avenue. A 28yearold man seriously hurt when he was pinned between a pair of cars of Andrew Melendez of Kittery Maine had already taken off but was arrested within minutes. Hes now being charged with armed assault with intent to kill. Heather lynn police hoping surveillance pictures will help them catch a pair of men for armed robberies. An atm camera. The man on the left is accused of three different hold ups within the past month. The man on the left and another man were using knives and guns to rob people at atms after dark. Shots fired weve got a suspect down officer hit blair you hear those radio transmissions, Boston Police tell fox 25 the suspect who was killed had a long police record, including threatening to kill officers. Heather 8 08 and a local man is facing charges in what police are calling a crime of passion. 70yearold john witty from berkley was in court yesterday, accused of shooting another tuesday. Police found williams dead in wellbeing check. Prosecutors say the incident may have been sparked by a love triangle and that williams had once dated a woman who was living with twitty. Blair this morning, a deadly double shooting at a high school in arizona is now being investigated as a murder suicide. It happened yesterday at a school outside of phoenix. Two 15yearold girls were found dead from gunshot wound. Police say one of the girls left a suicide note and the pair may have been in a relationship. That shooting put the school on lock down for hours while Police Investigated. That tragedy came on the same day that the woman tied to the deadliest High School Shooting in history. Gave her first interview. It has been 17 years since Dillon Klebold and eric harris opened fire here at columbine high school. They killed 13 people and hurt 2 dozen more before taking their own lives. Now for the first time ever, dillons mother, sue klebold is talking about her son in an interview with diane sawyer last night, she of says she lives and i kept thinking constantly thought, how i would feel if it were the other way around and one of their children had shot mine. About a dozen or so people were staying inside this room right here behind me. You can see a lot of folks had started to get up. Not only did they have cots here, they also have breakfast. So a lot of people, of course, having that hot coffee, and having the serial and some donuts. So just a really great resource for everyone. Now, the good news is, again, about a dozen people were staying here. But it was certainly not at capacity. And the good news is that there really arent any Power Outages to speak of this morning. Thats what were being told. Now, again, it holds about 250 people. So i was asking them what happens if theres 250 people applies that show up. Were being told that a second Warming Center would likely open. And, again, were talking about temperatures over the next two days. So these places really can save lives. Police also doing their part here in lowell. Theyre offering anyone who need a ride to one of these Warming Centers, give them a call and theyll head on over. We do want to post that information because the family that i was speaking about said they had no idea this place was open until a friend texted her. So thats the information right there on your screen. Again, this is inside the Lowell Senior Center. Which is on 276 broadway street. And this open 24 hours. It doesnt close. Its going to open and remain open through monday morning. And of course, this is not the only Warming Center thats available. Caitlin clavette was driving on 93 south friday morning when it happened. She was an art teacher at glover elementary in milton. The accident triggered hundreds of inspections on other Manhole Covers along i93. And state police will investigate exactly what caused and spoke with a traffic engineer to find out more about how Something Like this could happen. Experts say engineers usually try to put Manhole Covers close to the center line of most roads to limit how often cars and trucks drive over them. But even having said that, normal wear and tear, settling pavement, even snowplows, those all can cause damage to the covers, causing them to become loose. Its not something thats new. And i think its going whats going to happen is you continue to see our infrastructure get older and older, youre going to start to see more of these types of things start to happen. Heather and sadly yesterdays accident is disturbly similar to this one that happened on 128 in westwood where a driver was injured by a heavy sewer grate back in 2007. And that was just one of five accidents in five days back in 2007 that involved grates and Manhole Covers. Blair this morning, a young boy is expected to be okay after this is the scene on blue hill avenue in mattapan around 8 yesterday morning. Boston police say the 11yearold was hit by a car there. The car did stop. The boy was taken to the Childrens Hospital and is expected to survive. No word if the driver will face heather this morning, police want to know who is responsible for dumping a dog who was found barely alive on the side of the road. Middleboro animal control officers say the dog was found on long point road near the lake town line. Officials say that dog was dropped there on purpose and 40 pounds under weight. Sadly it didnt survive the night. The dog was estimated to be between 7 and 9 years old. If you know anything, Middleboro Police are asking people to contact them. We are also learning this morning, more about the two people arrested after police found a dog abandoned inside a rental unit New Hampshire. The puppy was found in londonderry in bad shape. In neglect, face the judge. They were released on bond. Neighbors are shocked to hear the allegations of animal cruelty. The thing that was going on next door is really apauling to me. I was horrified. Absolutely horrified. I cant imagine somebody would let a dog go that long. Blair they say he has a long road to recovery but under 24 hour care. Yesterday prosecutors tell scott told police he had my quill or dayquil, about he wasnt feeling well. Police say he was nearly four times the legal limit for a School Bus Driver. He missed a stop and police say he tried backing up and thats when he crashed into a utility pole, causing wires to come down on top of that bus. Heres his mug shot. And some more good news, they were telling me, is right now here in lowell, no issues with power. And that of course is a huge concern. Certainly do not want to be waking up inside a house without heat. Again, because of that, the Warming Center, not as full as it could be. It would house around 250 people. And what city officials are doing is this. Theyre opening these Warming Centers. But theyre also asking everyone to check on your neighbors. Go outside, knock on that door, just to make sure that they have heat. And if they dont, definitely let them know that this is an option right here. Because, again, we are talking about these incredibly cold temperatures, options like this one certainly could help save a life. Now, earlier i spoke with a woman. She stayed overnight with her family of 7. And thats including children. She told me that a friend had texted her last night. She had no idea this place existed. And really is just so thankful shes out of the cold. There was 7 of us staying in the car. Swished. There was no laying down flat. Just sitting up. Freezing, yeah. Caitlin clavette was killed yesterday on her way to work when a 200 pound manhole cover became airborne and went through her windshield. It happened along 93 south before the oneil tunnel. Clavette was a beloved art teacher at glover Elementary School some milton. Friends tell fox 25 clavette was passionate about both art and exercise and that combination made her a vibrant person to be around. Had a very ready smile and very encouraging to others. She will be very very deeply missed. Heather today transportation officials will be checking other Manhole Covers on the road for safety. Thats work that actually the crash. Four crews spent the day inspecting every manhole and storm drain along 93. They spanned out between somerville and the south bay mall. Governor Charlie Baker telling fox 25 hes not going to take any chances. Understanding this is an incredibly infrequent event. We decided to send the highway crews out to inspect every single opening of any kind. Heather and actually, this is not the first time that a manhole or grate cover has in massachusetts. Blair this morning, police want to find a driver accused of hitting a bicyclist on purpose. Witnesses tell police, the the 15yearold who was on the bike, argued with the driver just before the crash. Police say that white pickup truck you see in the surveillance image then crossed the road to hit the teen. The truck was found, but not the that victim is expected to survive. Several hours later, a similar incident, also in lowell. This one happened on cadell avenue. A 28yearold man was seriously hurt when he was pinned between a pair of cars. Andrew melendez of Kittery Maine had already taken off but arrested within minutes. Hes now being charged with armed assault with intent to kill. This morning, fox 25 is working to get more information about a violent Home Invasion, right now we know one person, a suspect, is dead shot by police. Two more people are hurt but its not clear how theyre connected to the crime. All started here on devon street in dorchester. When Police Arrived, they found two people shot. One of them trying to get to a waiting car with the help of another man. Police tell fox 25 it was that man who was not hurt who ended up opening fire on police the Police Commissioner bill evans said, it all played out over the police radio. Could hear three commands, drop your gun. Hit blair there you hear the police communications. Police tell fox 25 the suspect who was killed had a long police kill officers. This morning, were working to learn more about the other people shot. Heather a local man facing murder charges in what police are calling a crime of passion. 70yearold john lee of berkley is was in court yesterday accused of killing another 70yearold John Williams on wednesday. He was found in his wareham home during a wellbeing checked. The incident may have been sparked by a love triangle. Blair this morning, a deadly double shooting in a high school in arizona is now being suicide. It happened yesterday at a school outside of phoenix. Two 15yearold girls were found dead from gunshot wounds. Police say one of the girls had left a suicide note. The sister of one of the girls school. She says she found out the worst one of the students said it was may. And her friend. And thats when i called out to attendance and asked, could i get my sisters schedule. I need to know where shes at right now, first period. And they put me on hold for 10 minutes. Thats when i knew something was wrong. Blair police say the girls may have been in a relationship and that shooting for the school locked down for hours while Police Investigated. That tragedy came on the same day to the woman tied to the deadliest School Shooting in history. Gave her first interview. It has been almost 17 years since Dillon Klebold and eric harris opened fire at columbine high school. The two teenagers killed 13 and injured two dozen more before taking their own lives. Now, Susan Klebold is talking about her son. She says she lives with guilt every day. I kept thinking, constantly thought, how i would feel if it one of their children had shot mine. I would feel exactly the way they did. I know i would. Blair she also said she brushed off of the possible warning signs as typical teenage behavior. Now shes hoping a new book shes releasing this week will help parents recognize what those signs are. All of the money generated from the book, will go towards people who suffer from mental illness. For the green line, if youre going to take the green line, you need to know that Train Service between park and haymarket stations will be both directions. The mbta is working to replace the rail on the westbound track. And this is also so that crews ask wrap up work on the Government Center platform and track. We are told that work is still on schedule and should reopen next month. In the meantime the Commuter Rail is hoping to keep things on time this morning despite the frigid temperatures. With the cold, trains are at risk for more mechanical problems. So in an effort to prevent that, trains were kept idling overnight. Jason welcome back. It is cold. Right now were in the teens and 20s, so were cold but take a were going to feel as the winds increase through the morning and into the affect. Were going to feel like 0 either side of that through 10, 11 00 this morning. Through 3 00 today, feeling like negative territory anywhere from boston, north and westward. And then we go into saturday, 9 00 tonight. Negative 20 to 30. Boston westward, even getting into those negatives for the cape and islands. Checking in with the family of seven that weve been hearing from earlier this morning and they were telling me that seven overnight. And it was so cold, they actually told me that ice was forming on the inside of their car. So truly this Warming Center right here behind me is such a life saving resource. Some good news, though. That a lot of people not having to deal with Power Outages today. And because of that, about a a dozen or so people here at the Warming Center. Certainly not up to capacity. About 250 people can fit here. Truly a wonderful resource for anyone who does need it. We asked if it had been filled up, what would they have done. Were being told the city would likely open up a second center. But, again, with these dangerously cold temperatures for the next two days, again, places like this just so important. And police here in lowell, they are saying that theyre actually needs a ride here to the warming shelter. I do want to get right to that information because that family of seven, the mother was telling me, that she had no idea this place was open until someone texted her that information. So if you know of someone who needs a resource like this, take down this information. Right there on your screen. Again, this Warming Center is inside the Lowell Senior Center, which is at 276 broadway street. Open 24 hours. It doesnt matter what time of the day, head on in. And its going to stay open until monday morning. And, again, this is not the only center thats available. Definitely check with your local Police Department. Call your city or town to see if theres an availability there as well. And, again, one last thing. City officials really urging everyone, go next door, knock on that door, check to see if your neighbor is safe. And check to see that their heat is on.
