As you can imagine preparations for tomorrow nights event are already underway. The Iowa Events Center started set up for the jeffersonjackson dinner yesterday and hopes to have everything ready by tonight. The event is one of the largest dinners the center puts on. It will serve 2,000 meals in just 45 minutes. The event center brought in extra servers and staff to help make sure the event goes off without a hitch. And although the event center has its own security, it will be working with the secret service as well to make were following the lead given to us by the secret service, theyll handle their police needs and well supplement with tshirt security. The Iowa Democratic party says the event is almost sold out and a waiting list has been started. It expects more than 6,000 people to attend. The Iowa Supreme Court is throwing out a guilty plea reached by prosecutors and a defendant in a fatal stabbing in des moines in 2012. 31yearold Joseph Ceretti admitted stabbing eric naylor and plead guilty to attempted murder and voluntary manslaughter. Ceretti was sentenced to 45 years in prison. However the Supreme Court ruled today that ceretti cannot plead guilty to attempting to kill someone and actually killing someone for the same act. The stabbing happened back in november in 2012. Authorities found naylors body near east 17th and walnut. The Supreme Court threw out cerettis plea today. He will now have to reach a new plea deal. Or go on trial for naylors death. Charges have now been filed against three men who allegedly killed three protected Trumpeter Swans last week. It happened last saturday near fort madison. 70year old Richard Holbert and 59year old vinson davis of keokuk have each pleaded guilty to killing the birds and disposing of their bodies. Theyll each be charged a 15 hundred dollar fine. A third hunter. 84year old James Conaway is pleading not same charges. The dnr was alerted to the shooting by other hunters. They found the birds hidden in a duck blind used by the three men. The kum and go headquarters coming to Downtown Des Moines is about to give you a lot of space to roam. Renderings show the building will take up about a third of the entire property. The rest will be used as public space, intended to be an extension of the pappjohn Sculpture Park across the street. Kum and go had a celebratory groundbreaking ceremony on the property earlier this week. Official construction begins in early november, with around 800 employees moving into the office in early 2018.
