And neighbors are keeping up their push to shut it down. Our chad mills has the latest. This is our home. This is where we live. Dont destroy it. We beg you not to destroy it. It seems like, in lower richland, we get the stuff. About a proposed sewer project for lower Richland County. Youve got to listen to the people, and the people have to be heard. The county council has already advanced a plan to modernize an aging sewer system thats failing in some instances. In this meeting, dhec answered questions and recorded Public Comments before it makes its decision on whether to permit the project or not. Andre williams hopes dhec can shoot it down. Even though the county has said current homeowners can keep their functioning septic tanks, he believes theres still the possibility that failing tanks will cause homeowners to tap into the new sewer line. What they have told us in the previous meetings is that it can cost anywhere between 2,000 to 6,000. On an average income, as you heard here today, you know, some of these families dont make that. Meanwhile, he and others dont think theres a need for a new system either. What well do is review the permit based off of our current state standards that were provided to protect the health and that was chad mills reporting. Dhec will also take into connderation all of the comments it receives between now and march 9th. West columbia now has a new city administrator.
