Good evening. And we begin this thursday night with the allout manhunt for the gunmen who opened fire on Police Officers overnight in ferguson missouri. Two officers suddenly ambushed in the middle of what was a peaceful protest. It came just hours after the Ferguson Police chief announced he is resigning. Demonstrators had gathered. Heres what they heard. [ gunshots ] gunshots and screens, protesters and police running for cover. Images of one of the officers down. Police barricading themselves behind cars. Seeking cover behind a brick wall. Tonight, a manhunt still under way as weve watched the s. W. A. T. Teams sweep through neighborhoods all day. President obama tonight saying violence against police is unacceptable after Authorities Say the officers were shot just because they were Police Officers. Abcs alex perez is in ferguson tonight. Reporter tonight, in ferguson a manhunt. A s. W. A. T. Team descends on this home tearing apart the roof looking for the suspect who shot two Police Officers. Investigators taking away this car and questioning three people. This, after chaos overnight. The night began with the resignation with Ferguson Police chief tom jackson. By 8 00 demonstrators gathering outside the Ferguson Police station, and inning not just a new chief, but a whole new police department. And at midnight, just after the protests were winding down, gun fire. [ gunshots ] oh, my god. He got hit got an officer. Down. Officer down. Shots fired at their station. Reporter officers scrambling for cover and rushing to help two officers who were shot. One in the face, the other in the shoulder. Their he mets nearby covered in blood. Police calling it an ambush. These Police Officers were standing there and they were shot. Just because they were Police Officers. It was panic. You could see that the police didnt know what was going on. We didnt know what was going on. Everyone was confused last night. It was just shots going everywhere you know you can hear the little thats all we was hearing. And alex is with us now from ferguson. And how are the officers doing tonight . Reporter well, david, their injuries were not life threatening. Both officers have been released from the hospital and they are at home recoverkov ercovering tonight. Theres a 13,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in this case. Authorities bracing for possibly another night of protests. David . Alex perez tonight. Thank you. Now, to new information coming in this evening in the secret service scandal. Two top agents under investigation and one of them, an elite member of the president s security detail. The secondranking agent for the president. And tonight, allegations that they were driving drunk and drove through police tape at the white house where an investigation had already been under way. Abcs Pierre Thomas retracing their route tonight. Reporter the two secret Service Agents were heading back to the white house after reportedly drinking at a Retirement Party for a colleague. Sources say one agent, a senior supervisor and the other, mark connelly, is the 2nd ranking agent on the president ial detail. Connelly has been a constant presence at the president s side in recent years. The agents were believed to have been coming from a washington night spot, when at about 11 30 p. M. They drove their unmarked car through a crime scene tape hitting a barrier, just inside the southeast entrance to the white house. The crime tape was there, because an hour earlier, someone had tossed a suspicious package onto the grounds and the agents were investigating. And it was obvious that, to the guards that were there, that they may have been a bit impaired. Reporter it all happened right here at this gate. The uniformed officers allegedly wanted to give the agents a sobriety test and post bring make an arrest. Bull a super pvisor allegedly told them let the agents go home. It was perhaps the very moment that changed the course of events for those two brothers. This man, seen running for his life darting across the gas station parking lot. Police say hed be car jacked by the tsarnaev brothers jumping out of the car and seeking help inside this store right here begging the clerk to call 911. Abcs tom llamas in the federal courtroom where the witness testified it was the most frightening decision hed ever made. Reporter this new Surveillance Video shows the beginning of the end for the tsarnaev brothers. Prosecutors say thats Dzhokhar Tsarnaev exiting a mercedes suv they had just car jacked. He enters a convenience store, cruising the aisles. But as he stocks up on junk food outside, a figure sprints from the mercedes its dun meng, the cars owner running for his life, then Tamerlan Tsarnaev jumps from the car, racing to alert his brother. Meng terried, runs into a gas station. In a panic, looking to see if hes being followed he drops to knees, clasping his hands, begging the clerk to call 911 and then he hides. When the clerk hands him the phone, meng tells 911 the marathon bombers just carjacked him. They did the explosion, the marathon explosion. Reporter today in court, meng described how he was car jacked at gun point. Howl Dzhokhar Tsarnaev used his atm card to take out cash and how his decision to escape was the toughest decision of his life. Meng testified that as they were driving, Tamerlan Tsarnaev told him do you know the Boston Marathon explosion, do you know who did it . I did it. And i just killed a policeman in came bridge. When the brothers realized meng escaped, he fled in his car. They didnt know that car was equipped with a tracking system and soon the police would be on their trail. David . Tom llamas, thank you. And now, to florida, where this evening, the search for that black hawk helicopter has been suspended. Divers have located the wreckage in pieces on the sea floor. They believe the aircraft hit the water at high speed with seven marines and four soldiers on board. Pieces of the aircraft washing up on shore. The recovery effort hall personed by dense fog. A second black hawk had returned right before. Tonight, brand new fallout at the university of oklahoma. Fraternity members singing that racist chant. Two students expelled. And now, an investigation under way into whether that chant was used at two other schools. Meanwhile, a powerful image from the university of Oklahoma Football Team tonight. A field they were supposed to be practicing on today.
