Now, meteorologist Kevin Skarupa with your forecast. Kevin the temperatures have dropped below the freezing mark. Certainly not quite as cold and we could be this time of yearment with that and the patchy fog we have out there in places, you could have a couple of slick spots early this morning. And seeing that play out along along with a little patchy fog, you gelt get away from the lakes and theres moisture that could freeze in areas in a couple of spots. Beyond 8 30, 9 00, the temperatures will work their way up into the mid 40s, 50s. Notice back to the west, a weak system making its way toward us and were at that time of year where the systems come from the west or sometimes come up the coast. We are getting to that point now where were going to start to see a couple of the systems. Both this week look like they will be far enough away we dont see any major effects. In the 20s out there this morning and along with that a fairly light wind and a patchy fog burning off in the next couple of hours. Work up from the upper range of 50s. But the sunshine and it looks like a northerly breeze and thats all it takes this tuesday and that means temperatures back from the upper 30s to mid 40s. Air skies out there. If you head out to foxborough, should be a Beautiful Day for a football game. Well have temperatures out there. And 20 to 30 degrees tonight, only to head back 40s to lower range of 50s tomorrow with a good deal of sunshine. From there well start to see that northerly breezy take over and youll notice more clouds off shore. That first of those two systems that are going to be riding up the east coast, eventually far enough off shore we may not see anything, but a couple of flurries from there. A little more on shore breezy, will mean for chance of a mixed high temperatures into the lower half of the 50s. Light wind out of the southwest as that fog gives way to sunshine and partly cloudy, temperatures cool off again, again, maybe a little bit of valley fog. Beyond that we look at your extended forecast, and about a quiet a december week as youll see. Temperatures cooling off starting tuesday with partial sunshine. A couple of weak systems, one tuesday, looks like it stays off shore and may be a passing rain or snow showers depending on the time of day on thursday. Thats it, and i think the next system will ride in on sunday and at least most of the maps have that as rain. You meteorologists must be looking over your shoulder. Like its got to be, winters got to arrive at some point. Kevin did you with a much me in the storm track this morning . I was doing that. Amy gosh, its been mild. Kevin it has and we know eventually its coming to an end. Amy of course, it must. Here is an act of kindness in the season of giving that has the holidays. Kevin it involves a portsmouth Police Officer and an alleged shoplifting. An alleged shoplifter had gotten away and shortly after tracked her down. When he went to interview her, she admitted to the theft and the only reason she took what she took because she couldnt afford it. The ingredients we found out she took were for a birthday cake for her daughter. Store employees called what happened next. The officer returned with the 8 or 9 worth of cake makings and brought them back so the child would have a birthday cake. It doesnt excuse what she did. But the officer, as he stated it, you know, didnt think that the kid should have to suffer for the actions of his mother. That officer is not comfortable with the attention this is getting. Like many Police Officers, hes very modest, he didnt do in fact, it was a witness who herself wishes to remain anonymous who reached out. He just was a nice guy and i dont know, i think that stories like that need to be told. All you hear is bad stories about cops. I think it happens more than we know. We were overwhelmed. Its certainly one of the more kindhearted gestures weve seen, ive personally seen, but weve seen here at the store. I can only speak for the officers i work with here in this department and i suspect im speaking for, you know, most officers out there, that we came into this job, you know, for the right reason, to do the right thing, at the right time. You bought this 37,000 square foot building youre going to turn into a Drug Recovery thats significant because what . Honestly, fred, we needed a space. You know, a Community Recovery center i believe is going to be a big impact in manchester. Pure Recovery Services are proven in other states effective to work and we dont have them here in New Hampshire. Hope for New Hampshire recovery, hope we looked for the space for, is focused on the Peer Recovery Support Services and when you look the a the cost impact of treatment, of a lot of the things weve been doing, a, we dont have access to enough treatment. The treatment we have, were sending people back in and its not proven to work. We basically said ok, we need to do something about it. They had no funding. Right. So as Business Leaders, turned around, i was very frustrated and i turned to a may, i need help. The reason you got involved, you have employees who have become addicted . State what about the task force, what should this legislature be doing to confront what youre center . A whole bunch of things they should be doing. One of them is taking action. Im not sure studying the problem that we know is here is the direct course, unfortunately, a bunch of goals that have been set and hopefully theyll get some action out of this legislative session. To be quite honest, they need to focus in on something thats states that had this problem, Recovery Support services has proven to be the Cost Effective way of addressing the problem and right now, i believe they should focus on it and i believe they should focus on taking the funds that they do allocate and putting it to people that actually deliver services. The last thing that we need at this point in time is funds going to another level of government agency, another study committee. Theres talks of facilitating organizations. We dont need more costs. We need recovery coaches working with people on daytoday places. And others need to step up to the plate with you. Correct, were reaching out to businesses and others are reaching out to us. If youre headed out the next hour or so, bear in mind some of the normal fog prone areas and areas seeing the fog overnight as well as some elevated surfaces of the bridges, the overpasses and those places early this morning. Through the day today and continue to see almost nothing, but sunshine into the afternoon and a nice breeze out of the southwest, setting up what should be another day where temperatures will be very close to the numbers that we had out there yesterday. Which is anywhere from the upper half of the 40s up north to lower half of the 50s in southern areas. You can see on the satellite picture, patch why patchy fog, and the strong area of High Pressure thats all the way up and down the east coast, a few of the high clouds by later on this evening, but still, temperatures later tonight will fall to the levels that we have out there. Gradual improvement as temperatures eventually jump above the freezing mark, but again, if youre headed out in just the next hour or so, a couple of slick spots out there. You will notice out to our west, modified air mass and ahead of the next system we start to get in on milder temperatures not only today, but likely for tomorrow about of a little bit more of a northerly breezy kicks in. The flow makes difference for temperatures. Highs in the upper 30s to lower 40s and thats our new reality for the second half of the work week. Upper 30s to mid 40s, with it a fairly quiet weather pattern and one system well keep track afternoon, maybe just close enough to give us a stray snow shower in the morning or rain shower in the afternoon, depending on the time of day that it tries to move in. Today, early fog to sunshine, again, a couple of slick spots early. 46 to 56 for your daytime highs. Mild tomorrow and then cooling off from there. Coming up in New Hampshire business, two New HampshireBusiness Leaders are taking the bull by the horns and taking on welcome to New Hampshires business. Im fred kocher. Taking on the heroin opiate epidemic. These numbers are staggering. Three fourths of people addicted are employed. And over 300 died last year and more this year, estimate 350. New hampshire ranks second to last behind texas for treatment. And andy cruz is with me, the ceo of auto fair manchester. Thanks for having me. And dick agnost, developer in New Hampshire, welcome. Nice to see you. You have bought and this is in the news and shouldnt be a secret, you bought this 37,000 square foot building in into a Drug Recovery center. Thats significant because what . Honestly, fred, we needed a space, you know, a Community Recovery center is something that i believe is going to be a big impact on whats going on right now in manchester, pure Recovery Support services or something proven effective in other states to work, and we dont have them here in New Hampshire. Hope for New Hampshire recovery, who we look for the space for is focused on Peer Recovery Support Services and when you look at the cost impact of treatment, of a lot of the things that weve been doing. A, we dont have enough access to treatment. The treatment we have, we are a sending people back in and recovery is not proven to work. We basically said we need to do something about it. They didnt have a center to go into, they had no funding. As Business Leaders, the turn around and i was frustrated and turned to a good friend of mine some help. Dick shall the reason you got involved in this, you have employees who have become addicted . Correct, we have family members and employees and paying for treatment and been through the process in New Hampshire, its a very, very difficult process to negotiate. Its very disjointed in order to get the assistance that people that are addicted needed and this center, we purchased, being the real estate guy, its located at ground zero. One block east of the station. And it has all walkable services and our goal is to relocate the Recovery Center on the first floor, in addition, the Recovery Services and addiction and the rest of the building. Right, this will be a state wide Recovery Center in addition to manchester . It will be. Manchester. Is the key. Its the key. I understand youll serve 6,000 people. If the people on the roster that show up are being serviced by the organizations were in touch with right now. And the city has awarded you a Community ActionDevelopment Grant for outfitting this building . For outfit. Outfit only and beyond that, the costs are what. There has been no government or public funds. You know, what public funds weve had in the state have gone to treatment only, or to the medical community only. Theres been no support for Peer Recovery Support Services. What about the legislature . We have a task force on this right now. What should this legislature be doing to confront what youre center . What should they be doing, dick . A whole bunch of things they should be doing, one of them is taking action. Im not sure studying the problem we all know is here is the direct course, theyve had a whole bunch of goals set and hopefully get some action out of this legislative session. Same question. Ill be quite honest, they need to focus in on something a lot of people that had this further on, report Recovery Services proven to be the most Cost Effective way of addressing the problem. Right now, i believe, they should focus on it and i believe they should focus on taking the funds they allocate and put it to people who deliver services. The last thing we need is another Governmental Agency and study committee. Theres talks of facilitating organization,. We dont need any more administration costs, what we need is recovery coaches, working with people on a daytoday places in order to deliver services. Real quick, the other businesses need to step up to the plate with you. Correct, were reaching out to other businesses and other businesses are reaching out to us. Business people in portsmouth model. Agnost, president of, developer, thank you, dick. Nature car dealer in New Hampshire, right. Yes. Good luck with this initiative youve taken on. Thank you, fred. If you want to see this again, click on news and click on economy. And now Kevin Skarupa with your news 9 forecast. Kevin with temperatures below the freezing mark weve been seeing slick highways this morning, just scattered about. If youre not seeing the patchy fog, the sunshine and temperatures will jump to the levels we had yesterday. In the mid and upper 40s in the North Country and the foot hills. It comes today with a light breeze out of the southwest. Some high clouds back out to our west, well try to bump into the strong area of High Pressure we have for the time being and eventually a couple of those make their way in with partly cloudy skies tonight. And no moisture associated with these, were going to look at one will be wandering off shore later on tuesday and maybe just close enough for us to get a passing shower out of it. The other one would be thursday and i think that one stands at least the better chance of a snow shower early or a rain shower later in the day. Beyond that, thats about it with a big area of High Pressure in control of our weather. Temperatures from the lower range of the 30s closer to the shoreline, mid and upper 20s to the west. What is a chilly start to the day and again, with a little bit of patchy fog adding a little bit of moisture to bridge, passes and elevated surfaces. The on ramps and the off ramps, the temperatures through the afternoon, getting up within a few degrees of 50 and a mild day with a southwesterly breeze. Northern half of the 50s in the southern areas. This should be as mild as it will be this week. We will start to cool off a touch tomorrow and with that, eventually were going to be the averages by the time we get closer to tuesday and wednesday. Here it is, mostly sunny skies, partly cloudy conditions tonight. Again, a little bit of patchy fog tomorrow morning and tomorrow, were looking at temperatures to get back into the 40s, lower range of the 50s and it will be with a good deal of sunshine. From there, northerly breeze starts to kick in. As that system is well enough off shore and enough to bring in the breeze. Thats bringing temperatures cooler, and tuesday and wednesday and even into thursday. Were talking highs from the 30s to lower half of the 40s. The next system in that train of systems located off shore will be on thursday and maybe just close enough that we have the possibility of a snow shower on thursday morning or rain shower in the afternoon, depending on the time in which its arrived. So, for today, a Beautiful Day to be outdoors, temperatures from the 40s up north to lower half of the 50s. From there, another mild day tomorrow. With sunshine, and then we start tuesday, wednesday, another storm system passes thursday and once it goes by, temperatures again likely warming up ahead of the next system around either sunday or monday of next week with the warmer temperatures coming along with it.
