Police found somebody shot several times laying in the parking lot of sneakers eatery and pub early this morning. Hes now in stable but serious condition. Police are now looking for this man, 22yearold torrie mosley. They seized Coastal Division and gun connected him today. But he was nowhere to be found. Hes wanted on multiple felony warrants. An active shooter situation in colorado springs, colorado still ongoing now after several tense hours near a planned parenthood building. As leave eight people were injured, four of them reportedly Police Officers shot by a suspect. The shopping area nearby is still locked down. Police there say it remains an active scene and they have not been able to make contact with the shooter. Back here in iowa we are kind of in limbo right now waiting to learn in the proposed Oil Pipeline Project will get the go ahead by the state utilities board. The project could eventually carry crude oil as you see here from north dakota to illinois, but the board has to sign off on it first and they are still in the middle of evidentiary hearings. In the meantime, we wanted to learn for about the communications between the board and the Company Behind the project. Jacob joins us now with for on this local 5 special report. Thanks, stephanie. For and against this pipeline. We filed a freedom of information request with the iowa utilities board. Basically it was an attempt to show for transparency about the communication between board and the dakota access. Theres a growing concern that these evidentiary hearings in boone county are irrelevant. Stock piling pipes near newton. We have no control over their Business Decisions to stockpile pipe in the field in newton, but the board has not made a decision on the application for the permit. We sent out a request asking for any email communications with anyone with an iowa. Gov address. We got 61 emails back. Many talked about tv and print interview requests about the project. As well as the latest that has been published. Not one of these emails was from liberal standardy jacobs, nick wagoner or jerry, the three board members. There are no questions, no acknowledgments of receipts or thank yous from any of them. The email did show a briefing to the utility board for each day of the media inquiries. Sifting through the responses to date, no member of the board has granted an interview for either print or television. The main thing you will find in these is a denial to file an send dents environmental study. We cannot let those short Term Economic interests trump the environment and our long term sustain ability. Dakota access says it has plenty of overnight other governmental agencies conducting the environmental review. Those include the iowa dnr and the us army corporation. If the sierra club had serious opposition to the project they shouldnt have waited on song lot file their request. At the end of the day the board said the Agency Process has been sufficient to address Environmental Issues in the past and so far no one has shown that it will not be sufficient here. The fire started around 8 45 in the kitchen area of the store in west des moines. No one was hurt. Target did reopen today, but the perishable item aisles near the front of the store did suffer some smoke damage. After getting stuffed with turkey he thanksgiving travelers will jam highways and interstates across the country. The majority of americans will travel back home this sunday according to trip adviser. 60 of americans plan to drive to and from their thanksgiving destinations. Drive say theyll rack up more than 200 miles. Only 35 of us will take a plane home. Last night we had some rough weather for travelers. Big system moving off, taking over much of the country right now as you can see with rain showers still bringing moisture in off the gulf of mexico as this big system is just a slow mover. Youll see this is a second and 15. Its a long down and distance situation. Oddly enough, fun fact, iowa didnt convert a third down in this entire game. So youre the long down and dance decision youre going to have to advance the ball. The problem is you have a ton of guys that know you have a lot of space to give, so you have to try and invite pressure and with this screen youre going to see someone try and huddle in here to through and draw eyes in and then pull out the way. The guy that did that Austin Blythe. Hell slip out the back way and Austin Blythe sneaks out the front and from the husker safety and because there is so much of a huddle mentality with that Austin Blythe in the center and the movement of the offensive line. And then we move on to the defense getting things done. Heres you called this an lol pass in the text message. Tommy armstrong not making a grace pass here. This is bad decision i think number one. Right here youll see this is a touchdown. This defensive end here is going to be the one that ends up tipping it and scoring. Theres a lot of things that have to happen specifically on two guys. One is the offensive tackle. And a screen play like this, whats going to happen is this running back is going to swing out to the side and all tommy has to do is give a pop pats over the pass. All he lass to do is get it over the top. The best thing i can do if im the tackle is to keep everybody from here forward. So i have to be really aggressive. When i go to cut block him i have to be really aggressive. He backs up and tries to cut moving backwards which doesnt slow him mistake number two, if it you well get to see this again and it will come back around. There is a big set edge around this corner. This play is set up to succeed. But tommy didnt give enough air because he didnt have enough space to do so, so mistake number one, mistake number two, therefore you have an iowa touchdown. And then we get into the big guys up front. Walk us through this jordan canzeri touchdown play in the third quarter. Whats my favorite parade . Elephants on parade. Youre going to see all six of these guys trying to mush their way all walking in the same direction. The fullback is going to hit the most dangerous man on the outside. So one other thing to note is lets count like we always do. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11. Those those guys are within 9 yards of the lynn line of scrimmage. They know theyre going to run, so about this is that nate gary had already been ejected so this is the safety that filled in for him. When you watch this play hes a little bit too aggressive. Hes coming in too high. Hes back behind the line of scrimmage which allows canzeri to scoot free. So the parade moves all the way through, they do a terrific job that you could put on a highlight film for the nfl. That is beautiful. You get white pants next to white pants next to white pants, and theyre just going to be flying all the way through. Terrific job by the offensive line, but also a little too aggressive by that substitute safety. When we come back well talk nebraska a little bit. That nathan all right. Welcome back. Well, today, twitter blew up for one play in particular. That was the big pickup here. And the reason being a lot of people thought he was covered up on this little leak out pass that he had. Lets talk about why you dont think he was. To be fair, it is very close. But i think its the proper call. So what the for those that are in the viewing audience that arent 100 sure what covered up means only the last man on the line of scrimmage can be progressing downfield to catch a pass. So and theyre the last man they can be eligible. In this set this is the guy that theyre intending to be the last man on line of scrimmage. Meaning this man and this man are both off. What he had an issue with is he thought that this man was on the line of scrimmage making him ineligible who actually ended up catching the pass. The reason why its okay is because all these linemen have to do is their helmet, which is whats making the mark has to cross the belt line or the waist of the center. All these linemen are doing so. So these guys are all fine. So his helmet, this weaver, his helmet is stacked over the 35yard line. The ball is in the 33. 5. Technically you have 1 yard off. Its a call that most officials dont like to make. They do not like to throw a flag on this play anyway. So this is a close but proper call to leave this as a nonpenalty meaning both of these players are eligible. And then we see this go in motion here and armstrong, junior, has the option here and you watch him kind of leak out and obviously iowa thought he was covered up defensively, because no one really picked him up. He gets the big play. Now lets move on to that nathan gary hit. This was a scary hit. Clearly a targeting penenty. It seems really rough that you have to call this. It wasnt like he was going up in the air and he got hit in the face. But he was going down to the ground and he got a helmet in the side of the head. The outcome has to out weigh the intent. Because if youre to allow plays like this to continue, even if its unintentional, then youre saying that its okay if you accidentally knock helmet to helmet and but these guys brains in danger. Its a hard penalty to call and its a hard penalty to justify, but its also you have to somehow change the culture and this is what the penalty is here for. Right. You have to change the culture of allowing this type of hit. Heats going on the ground. Hes not really going to potentially make the catch, but hes not gary is not going to swat the ball. Hes going to hit him so he doesnt catch the pass. Where the philosophy changes he has to go and try to knock the ball out. As hes laying on the ground grasping his head the science has proven this is a big problem for people to actually endure that pain. Though it may not seem like a really super obvious hes trying to kill the guy penalty, it has to be called because it has to be consistent and got to get rid of plays like that in football. Weve been talking iowa football, but a reminder that iowa state plvirginia. It will be the final game for paul rhoads as the cyclones head coach. Well have full break down tomorrow at 5 30. The hardest part of paul rhoads being fired is the good person and the pride he took in the iowa state program. But sometimes thats just not enough. If you had one word to explain paul rhoads, it should be passionate. Its that very passion that landed him the head coaching job at iowa state seven seasons ago. I remember meeting paul and him saying i watched that video, and i want to work for you. And he said it in that voice, that we all know and it was like you had me at hello. Iowa was emotionally damaged at the time watching gene chizic. During the first full seasons he looked for schools to coach but stayed true to iowa straight. Because im unbelievablely loyal and wanted to accomplish here at iowa state what had never been done before. I gave you some highlights that we did. Rhoads is 837 before going to the liberty bowl and lose to go tulsa in 2012. It wasnt this loss to kate that caused rhoads firing. No one game costs a coach their job. We made the decision to make the change because we simply didnt win enough games. But for rhoads, wins and losses wasnt always the focus. It was developing boys into men. And there were plenty of men in that locker room who were sad to see their coach go. Hes a great guy to be around. I wouldnt change any of my three years ive been with him. Hes been awesome. I would say he probably has 95 is the reason why i came here. I came to iowa state because i wanted to play for coach rhoads and because i see how passionate he is for iowa state and how much he cares about his players and everyone else. So hes just a genuine guy. This being my fifth year, i spend for time with my coaches and my teammates than i do with my family, so ultimately, you know, this becomes your family, and its its hard. Its hard to see that and end. Jeff, you said he was a big reason why you were there. I got recruited by gene chiziks staff and from a personality standing point those guys couldnt have been a good fit from the midwest. They werent honest and down to earth and he was. We met with him during the cree driveby shooting process. Its all about telling a kid that he wants to here he didnt lie. Didnt try and blow smoke anywhere i didnt need it. All he did was tell me exactly the truth and thats what everybody loved about coach rhoads. Its why hes such a well respected guy in ames. Who would you like to see succeed him. A guy with the same integrity. With the same sensibility of not saying what he thinks someone needs to hear, but saying the truth and saying whats right and doing whats right and developing kids and thats exactly what rhoads did and just the product on the field didnt quite match that same personnel intensity on making sure that everybody was the best human they could be. Now, take that same thing, that same character those same characteristics and turn a wishing football coach on top of that and you have exactly what iowa state needs. Now, do you agree with the decision to let him go at this time . Its a tough decision to me for me to say yea or nay to. Like he said hes a great guy. Hes won a lot of times at iowa state and especially in those first five years, but then its kind of unraveled, so i understand it, i dont like it. Meet the people had you been the game. When we welcome back. The iowa, nebraska, Football Game ended this evening with a wig win for iowa, but its called the hyvee heroes game for a good reason. Each year citizen heroes are honored at halftime. This years iowas heroes or a state trooper and a local nurse. Local 5 shares their story. The engine is revving extremely high and then all of a sudden it takes off. This is not good. Something is going on inside the truck. Seven months ago, iowa state trooper spotted a truck with oklahoma plates stopping and requesting in the middle of 70mile per hour interstate traffic. Right where these pylons are is then pat rork was having a seizure in the middle of interstate 35. His son grabbed the wheel and took his dads foot off the gas placing his on the brake. He ran over, start cpr right then and there. A lot of things played out the correct way. Two cars behind him was nurse jane mccurdy. I had worked a few days so it was my day to relax. That went out the window and instinks kicked in. I thought someone here needs help and this is what we do. As a nurse this scene was knew so as he fought for life on the pavement, she took him under her wing and would not Randall Jette him go. I took him to the hospital and stayed with him. After getting him a hotel and food and days of waiting, they went home to oklahoma. Now months later in true heroic fashion, neither will say they are what everyone is hailing them as. Its such a its such a big word, and i dont look at myself as a hero. I just was at the riot police at the right time doing my job. Eli is the true hero. It could have been a very tragic accident. They say the highlight of that april day isnt saving their lives or becoming, quote, un, quote, heroes. The best part was becoming their friends and in turn part of their family. You cant run the ball against them at all, and they are sometimes susceptible against the pass, but other times theyre locked down, especially when you go to the kind of desmond king side. So what Michigan State likes to the is run the ball and they like to throw the ball deep. Those two things that iowa defends so iowa has a very good shot against Michigan State because theyre essentially playing themselves. Its going to be a physical, classic big 10 style game if youre into that sort of thing in indianapolis for the championship. We know big 12 fans arent and i think Michigan State is a pretty for that youll have to welcome back, everybody. And im not impressed with the holiday weather that weve had. Not yet .
