Christopher sydlowski was killed when he lost control of his pickup truck early yesterday morning. Residents who live near the scene of the crash tell action news that this isnt the first time a car has crashed in the area. A person was killed today by an amtrak train in delaware county. Chopper 6hd was over the scene at about 7 30 this morning in prospect park. Train service was shut down for about 90 minutes while police investigated. No word yet on the persons identity or why he or she was on the tracks in the first place. A tense situation in north philadelphia when a gunman held police at bay. It unfolded about 6 00 a. M. When police served a warrant at a home here in the 1500 block of west lehigh a the suspect refused to come out, in fact barricaded himself inside. Several other people were in the home as well t swat times responded and at one point fired several shots. No one was hurt and the suspect was taken into custody after about a half hour. Explosive wildfires burning in Northern California threatening the lives of thousands of residents and their homes and theres no end in sight. A barricaded man holds Philadelphia Police at bay for several hours in Port Richmond and a local company he is now promising beautiful music during the papal events next week. Katherine scott shows us how. And now to a very dangerous and desperate situation out west in california. Two wildfires are burning in the northern part of the state tonight. Forcing the evacuation of more than 23,000 people. Hundreds of structures have already been destroyed. One person is dead and thousands of firefighters obviously working around the clock. The fire in the Northern California foot hills has burned 71,000 acres so far and its only 35 percent contained. And just 20 miles north of the famed napa valley the lake fire which started saturday has already consumed 61,000 acres and it shows no signs of letting up. More now from abcs lauren lister. Reporter an eerie silence in middletown, california today. The aftermath from this scene saturday night. The valley fire turning homes, cars, entire lives into ash and scorched grounds. Holy cow, that is fast. Reporter retired firefighter don lopez volunteered to go back on the front lines this fire season. He told abcs matt gutmann that he was working on saturday when he heard that his hometown was burning. After an exhausting 24 hours shift, he went back to see what remains. Devastated. Driving down the street all my neighbors are gone. Reporter but he was stuned to find his home still there. My daughter on the other hand lost everything. Reporter nearby firefighters are still desperately trying to battle back the flames. Some of them so tired they collapsed in this drive way. Potential for just explosively growing fires is really all coming true. Reporter the valley fire forced 20,000 evacuations and officials are still tallying the damage. For south, the butte fire near sacramento today is your passing 70,000 acres burned with 135 homes destroyed and thousands more at risk. When combined with years of drought, it means that the conditions are worse. Theyre drier and therefore these fires are acting more aggressively more unpredictablely. Johnson shank center city accused of gunning down 31yearold trooper Joseph Cameron ponder after fleeing a traffic stop last night. Ponder had been on the force less than a year. Back here at home, a five hour standoff between Philadelphia Police and a Port Richmond resident ended peacefully this afternoon. Chopper six was over the scene along the 3000 block of agate street. Authorities blocked off the street around 10 00 a. M. Swat members surrounded the area after reports of a person under the influence of narcotics barricaded himself in a residence and refused to come out. After several hours the man was brought out and taken to Episcopal Hospital for evaluation. No one was hurt. Authorities in west goshen township wander the public to look at the two men in these surveillance pictures. They say the suspects walked into the micro tell inn along willow brook lane in west chester early this morning armed with guns. The pair stole money from the motel then took off. No one was injured but detectives want to get these armed suspects behind bars before they strike again.
