Good morning, im martha raddatz, we begin with 2016. Its your voice, your vote and some astonishing numbers in our brandnew abc News Washington post poll, revealing just how tight the race is between the two frontrunners. Take a look in a Hillary Clinton donald trump matchup, clinton is in front. But statistically theyre essentially even. Clinton with 46 . Trump with 43 . And perhaps just as striking, a stunning gender gap for both candidates. Trump winning men by 15 points. Clinton up by 21 points among women. Meanwhile, a key question this morning, with a critical gop debate just three days away, can donald trump keep his frontrunner status or is someone else ready to steal the spotlight . It wont be rick perry who friday became the first to drop out, but it could be dr. Ben carson, another outsider, now surging in the polls, and taking new shots at trump. Dr. Carson will join us shortly. First the latest from abcs jon karl. Reporter reporter republicans will no doubt pay tribute to the gipper when they assemble at the reagans library for this weeks debate. Thou shalt not speak ill of any republican. Donald trump on Carly Fiorina in Rolling Stone magazine. Look at that face, would anyone vote for that . And the backlash. Maybe im getting under his skin a little bit because im climbing in the polls. Reporter bobby jindal languishing at the back of the pack, threw the book at trump. Trump is a nar sissist. And even ben carson a close second to trump got into the act. Questioning trumps commitment to god. And thats a very big part of who i am, humility and fear of the lord. I dont get that impression with him. Reporter trump went nuclear on carson. Calling him boring. And even questioning the renowned the Brain Surgeons medical records. Hes overrated as a doctor. Reporter one republican did try embracing trump this week, ted cruz inviting the donald to the rally against the Iran Nuclear Deal in d. C. But cruz told us the real reason why did you have donald trump in this rally in. Well, its not complicated. Number one, i like donald. Number two, everywhere donald brings he brings 100 cameras with him. Reporter and on friday, he made his latenight debut as a candidate. Its not big, its huge reporter how huge . Once again, it will be donald trump at center stage. For this week, jonathan karl, abc news, washington. Now, the man gaining on donald trump in the polls, dr. Ben carson joins us from South Carolina, good morning, dr. Carson, did you ever expect to be in this position, Bernie Sanders another outsider readily admits hes been stunned by his own climb, what do you make of the numbers. Well, i know, i find that people, once they have an opportunity to hear what i have to say and get an explanation of it, frequently agree and you know, part of the problem is, we live in a sound bite society and people will take one phrase or two praises and then they try to portray the person as that. Who has no other ability to think of any other aspects. Which of course is not true. When i get in present of people and they have a chance to hear something in depth polls in iowa show that you actually like you better, think youre honesty and trustworthy, but donald trump is still beating you, what are they missing . Time. You know, its a marathon its not a sprint. And thats why we have this elongated process, i think it will serve us well in the end. How can you convince a voter who is now supporting donald trump, this brash, outspoken, irreverent man, somebody who seems to say anything and get away with it, how do you the softspoken and reverent candidate, convince those voters, those Trump Supporters that you are a better candidate . Well, not specifically going after Trump Supporters, you know, im going after everybody in america. Because, you know, we live in very perilous times, our country is in grave danger and if we dont begin to change our direction and change our attitude, i think we may not survive into the future and we have to look out for the future of our children and grandchildren. So im not specifically targeting my remarks at any one person but rather at the situation that we find ourselves in. Well, dr. Carson, there were a lot of stories this week about something you said about Donald Trumps faith, let me play what you said. By humility and the fear of the lord, our richest honor in life. And thats a very big part of who i am. Humility and the fear of the lord. I dont get that impression with him. Maybe im wrong. But i dont get that impression. Donald trump said that was an attack. Your reaction . It wasnt meant as an attack and it was certainly spun that way by the media, because they enjoy creating a fight. They love to have a gladiator scene. And, you know, it wasnt my intention. Im certainly not going to allow it to become my intention subsequently. Regardless of how anyone reacts to it. Listen to what trump said about you just yesterday in iowa. I dont think ben has the energy, ben is a nice man but when youre negotiating against china, we need people that are really smart that have tremendous dealmaking skills and that have great, great energy. That doesnt bother you at all . No, it doesnt bother me, because i recognize that i have plenty of energy. You know, operating on people for 10, 12, sometimes greater than 20 hours at a time. Making critical decisions after many hours of intense work. But, dr. Carson unexpected situations come up. You dont have to be loud to be energetic. You actually apologized to mr. Trump about your comments about his faith. Part of being president is to use the bully pulpit to lobby congress, challenge opponents, can you do that . I dont think i would have any trouble at all doing that. But when you do something thats inappropriate, i think its appropriate to apologize for it. Why do you believe you, a neurosurgeon and youre certainly a talented neurosurgeon are the one who should be president of the most powerful country on earth and the commander in chief . Well, neurosurgeon is not the only thing that i am. Although, i will tell you that it requires quite a lot of knowledge to become a neurosurgeon and youre not going have mavery many dumb peoe become neurosurgeons. I have spent decades in the business world. Dr. Carson, let me ask you this, how would you handle the refugee crisis right now . I would recognize that bringing in people from the middle east right now carries extra danger. And we have to be extra cautious. You know, we need to tighten it up and be very careful, because we cannot put our people at risk because were trying to be politically correct. Thanks very much, dr. Carson, lets turn now to the democrats. That race tightening. Hillary clinton down to 37 , Bernie Sanders, now, at 27 and joe biden at 20 . Even though hes not a candidate. But hes now offering his most personal reflections yet on his emotional struggle over whether to run. Heres abcs cecilia vega. Reporter whether he or wont he . This morning its the question every democrat is asking, even joe biden may not have the answer. The Vice President sure looked like a candidate in the running this week, hugging babies, kissing seniors. But then came his appearance on the late show with stephen colbert. Biden began emotional talking about his son beau who died of brain cancer in may. He had this enormous sense of empathy. I know im sounding like a father it sounds like you love him, sir. Oh, geez, i reporter that grief could be the very thing that keeps him from entering the race. I dont think any man or woman should run for president unless they can look at the folks out there and say, i promise you, you have my whole heart, my whole soul, my energy, i would be lying if i said that i knew i was there. Reporter the woman who is running for president sliding in the polls, now shes trying a different tactic, is this the new spontaneous Hillary Clinton . From dancing on ellen. To this the apology for using that private email address and home server. That was a mistake. Im sorry about that. Reporter it came during an interview with abcs david muir a day after she said she had nothing to apologize for. Im apologized it has raised all of these questions. I do take responsibility for making what was clearly not the best decision. And cecilia and jon karl are here now, welcome to the both of you. Jon, i want to go back to joe biden, i dont think weve ever seen an interview so emotional, so raw, from someone contemplating a run for president. What does that tell you when you look at that interview . Well, what it tell you, nobody knows what joed biden is going to do. A mistake to watch that interview and to think that hes not going to run. Biden and his cloest advisers see a clear path to running. They think he can win, theyre seriously looking at this. He is not made his mind up. Hes anguishing through this decision in a very public way. Cecilia, you have been on the campaign trail with Hillary Clinton. This interview comes the same week where you say Hillary Clinton is trying to be more authentic, we saw that in the interview with david muir. As some democrats are looking for a plan b. Can she compete in authenticity against what we saw with joe biden . Shes certainly trying. The biggest threat to this may be Hillary Clinton herself. Were seeing the shift in Hillary Clinton. You saw her dancing on ellen we heard talking about her mother more. The reality is, though, you go back to that poll that came out recently that said the first words that come to mind for many voters when they hear the words Hillary Clinton, liar, dishonest. She has a real problem. Jon, i want to go back to Vice President biden again, if he makes a decision to run, how does he make that transition to say, okay, im grieving but im ready. I think you have seen flashes of this. You saw him at that labor day parade running down the street, hugging babies, kissing grand mothers. I mean, this is his best chance in his life to be elected president. He can pull this off, you know, i got to tell you, when he was up in new york for 9 11, somebody mentioned beau and he said, its been 103 days since hes died, hes literally counting the days since his son died. Remarkable. Cecilia, if he gets in, what does Hillary Clinton campaign do . They have expecting this. Youre seeing this shift now. Theyre clearly nervous. Biden, if he does run, has a huge road ahead of him. Hillary clinton already has 78 people in iowa alone. If biden gets in tomorrow, it will be a tough race. Let alone october 13th before the democratic debate. Lot of people wondering if he could pull this off if he decides to jump in. Coming up, much more on all of the 2016 drama, plus new warnings over that refugee exodus, could isis operatives sneak into the u. S. . Back now with that refugee exodus, with so many still pouring in, germany saying this morning, its nearing its limit. Plus, that new controversy, could isis infiltrate the refugees entering the west, well take that question on after the latest from abcs terry moran. Reporter the gate to europe is about to close. And the tensions are rising. Hungary has announced it will seal their border this coming tuesday. No more walking down those tracks across the border. Refugees caught in hungary will be arrested and prosecuted. Men, women and children. A very different atmosphere. An amazing scene saturday a soccer match in munich, players walking out hand in hand with both a german child and a refugee child and 75,000 fans cheered. One syrian family made it to munich saturday. And we know them well. The family and their four children, 10 months old, they made it. We just got to munich and were very happy, he said. We met them in turkey three weeks ago, sleeping in a park preparing for their dangerous journey. Then, their harrowing crossing to greece. The childrens faces evened in fear. Day after day, they headed toward the hope of a new life. But hungary was bad, very bad, they were herded into a camp for a week. They put you in prison, yes he said. Their food ration, one roll of bread per day. Phil thy conditions, cold, dark cells. We walked with them into austria and now they have reached their promised land. There are thousands of families just like muhammads on the move. Countries like europe cant agree among themselves on how or even if to take them in. Talk of quotas. Lottery. People keep coming. Martha . Thanks, terry. That refugee crisis sparked in part by civil war in syria and the terror group isis, the Coalition Effort against isis is now a year old, so the u. S. Winning the war . We took that question to retired general john allen. But i started off asking him what responsibility the u. S. Bears to help those refugees . My prayers with all of them they find security wherever their travels will take them. I also, by virtue of the job i have today, recognize that we have a responsibility, we have shoulder to deal with the root cause causes the crisis in the middle east, whether its the Syrian Civil War or the emergence of this organization that we call isil or d. A. S. H. Its not going to be easy or fast. But are we, today, at a place where you thought we would be . Where we were a year ago today, i wasnt sure how it was going to unfold. It wasnt clear to me that iraq would survive this. In the intervening months, we have seen remarkable progress in many respects. We have seen the emergence of a capable leader and a partner in baghdad, without a political resolution of this conflict, whatever we do military, will not solve this crisis. We have seen a Coalition Come into existence in the intervening months, a coalition that has worked really hard to stem the flow of foreign fighters. Impede the finances of d. A. S. H. And yet, mosul is still controlled by isis. Fluj ya. Youre correct. Were not done. But we have real successes. Tikirit was taken back. In syria, that place can banni, brave defenders supported by the coalition, ultimately held the city. They pushed d. A. S. H. Well off lets talk about kabani, it remains december late, many of those refugees including that 3yearold boy, his brother and mother were from kabani. They cant go back. Create the humanitarian conditions where they can go back, rebuild the city. That process is under way. Syria is never going to be solved militarily. Syria has to have a transfer from assad. There hasnt been a political solution and its getting worse for the people who live there, its getting worse for the refugees. And were working very hard to try to have that political solution. Reporter in the meantime, the white house is announcing that the u. S. Will take in 10,000 syrian refugees, but the chairman of the Homeland Security committee says, isis could embed with those refugees, creating a jihadi pipeline. They call it a National Security threat, do you agree in. I think we should watch it, we should be conscious of the potential that d. A. S. H. Might intend to imbed that population. But i have tremendous confidence in the work that has been and is being done by the director with the fbi and with secretary johnson, secretary of Homeland Security, the attorney general and the department of justice, they have done tremendous work in protecting us domestically. And as i have watched their efforts unfold and as we would see the potential for infill traitors to in these refugee colonies, i have confidence theyll work hard. Is it a potential National Security threat . I think its a threat. We need to understand the totality of it before we can brand it a National Security threat. Clearly something we should be thinking about. Our thanks to general allen, so, lets bring in congressman Michael Mccaul the chairman of the Homeland Security committee. Good morning, chairman mccaul. I want to ask you right away, you have talked about the National Security threat, how do you balance these urgent humanitarian needs with National Security . Well, its tragic, its a humanitarian crisis of Epic Proportions i believe the result of a failed Foreign Policy in syria, inability to remove assad from power and the rise of isis. Well continue to have a refugee crisis globally and i think as general allen talked about, we need to deal with that problem first and foremost to resolve this issue. From a National Security standpoint, i take isis at its word, when they said, in their words, well use and exploit the refugee crisis to infiltrate the west, that concerns me. Lets talk about what we do i know the department of Homeland Security in the past few years has worked with the Intelligence Community to improve vetting, using classified material. But do we have enough people to do that, do we have enough in place and do we even have the intelligence on syrians . We dont. Thats a problem. If i could be assured these people could be vetted properly i would be supportive. The problem is, the fbi testified before my committee, Homeland Security firms, they all say to me that we dont have the systems in place on the ground in syria to properly vet these individuals. We dont know who they are. I visited one of these camps in jordan. The minister of security said he didnt know who these people are. When you have the fbi discuss security, we dont have the intelligence on the ground to vet these persons properly, that to me, first and foremost, my job is to protect the american people. Were a compassionate nation. We have to deal with crisis. This could be a very reckless and dangerous policy. And chairman mccaul, if you would quickly, we of course have the pope coming soon, theres always concern about lone wolf attacks . Someone was arrested this week in florida, a suspect, a sympathizer with isis. Do you feel secure with the pope coming into the u. S. In. Im concerned. I was briefed by the secret service in a classified setting. The pope is a very im catholic, be the way, he likes to get out with the people. With that comes a large security risk, were monitoring very closely threats against the pope as he comes into the united states. We have disrupted one particular case. In particular, but as that date approaches, i think were all very will be very diligent to protect him as he comes into the united states. Thank you so much for joining us this morning, mr. Theres joe biden at a 9 11 Anniversary Event this week, biden publicly agonizing over whether to run for president and supporters are gearing up in case he says yes. Were joined now by a biden friend, good morning, dick, i want to ask you right away, the New York Times says Vice President biden looks like a man running for president and he was out there with firefights and the crowds this week, but he does not sound like it. Do you think hell run . Well, i think its difficult to tell, martha. I do know this, i know this country needs joe biden. I know i have gotten dozen of calls since his appearance on colbert the other night. If i communicate with him, let him know its not just about winning the nomination for our party its about moving this country in a positive direction. That Hillary Clinton cant do, that none of the republicans can do. This is a time, and i think my belief is, he will run, because he understands that he can put his personal grief aside and try to deal with the problems confronting every man and woman in this country and your report just a moment ago, about refugees, lets think about this, joe biden, over a decade ago, proposed dividing iraq into sunnis, shiites and ku kurds providences. If they followed his sad vice there would be no isis. Today. Why would it be different today, how does he do it this late in the game . There are literally hundreds of folks in South Carolina, the third primary this week, just this week, over a dozen former legislators, the mayor of charleston, have urged him to get in the race and spot him. We could put together an army of biden supporters here in a short amount of time. Theres no excitement about the clinton campaign. There is huge excitement about joe piedens campaign. So, do you see the support that biden is already getting him, more about him or more about Hillary Clintons vum neshlts . About him. But i must say, i have gotten calls from folks here in South Carolina who have publicly said for Hillary Clinton, they have grave doubts about her ability to win in november of 2016. If joe biden gets in the race, theyre coming to his side. Thank you very much for joining us. Lets bring in the roundtable. Kristen soltis anderson. Maria cardona, robert costa and steve inskeep. I want to start with you, steve, and go around the round table quickly, do you think hes going to get in. Hell have to come one a ration nail. Lets think this through, im mourning my son is a powerful message but not something you would use to run for president. Im worried about Hillary Clintons chances, not a positive rationale for presidency. Its tricky. Its problematic. Al gore tried to run on that and ran away from it in 2000. If joe biden is going to be successful all of the way through, what is his narrative . Does he have a narrative in. He does have a narrative. If im on the trial in South Carolina, theres a deep well of empathy for the Vice President. Does that automatically translate into a Political Base . Biden people know they dont necessarily do it. Do you think he gets in in. I dont think he gets in. Maria . I dont think he gets in at the end of the day. I agree. Theres right now no clear path for him. And because it was his beloved sons last dying wish, i dont think is enough. I agree with bob, you dont really see an outcry for joe bide on the run, hes absolutely beloved by the party and frankly, i think both parties, hes got a loft respect, but guess what, right now, he has the halo effect, he hasnt jumped in. What happens when he jumps in or if jumps in . A whole different ball game. Kristen . These polls arent Hillary Clinton. These are people really liking Bernie Sanders. The Democratic Party at this moment arent distrusting of Hillary Clintons like general voters. But one of the things that you see in the race it is so unpredictable, who would have thought donald trump would be where he is, do you think, if he gets in the race theres a chance in. There is of course a chance. I have havent seen democrats turn on the emails. If they have an idea logical right, theyre turning to sanders. Kristen is right. What about that email issue . You dont think thats going to remain an issue the democratic primary voters they still think shes a historic favorite candidate. Shes able to say this is just republicans generating another controversy. The problem for Hillary Clinton shes attempting to answer this several times. Each time it seems more substantive than less. Her recent apology saying on this network that she was sorry that she had used a private email server. Putting out a number of points, you can pick apart each of those statements. The key one, i turned over all of my workrelated emails. You have to take her word for that. Because theres no way to back up which emails she sent. And theres vor careful language that they werent marked classified. But lets talk about a plan b, whatever you say about joe biden and most of you dont think he has much of a chance given your remarks, what about a plan b for democrats . What if this email thing gets out of control . In the event a plan b is necessary, then having joe biden to jump in to fill the role that a fading Hillary Clinton, at the moment, democrats like Bernie Sanders. Were in this unusual position, electability doesnt matter to voters anymore. Bernie sanders and donald trump having a chance, a real chance of winning their partys nomination, a few months ago, maybe they pushed those emotional buttons and voters really like them. They would never have a chance in a general election. The new abc News Washington post poll, showing a close matchup with the electable Hillary Clinton and donald trump. Bernie sanders and Hillary Clinton, they want her to be more spontaneous. They want her to be more authentic and in response to that story David Axelrod longtime barack obamaed a vieszer tweeted this todays the New York Times story on hrc read more like the onion, her detailed plan to show more often thesety, just do it. Her staff wasnt happy with it. In all honesty, i dont think they knew it was going to go in that direction. But i think to the point of her authenticity the interview she did with david showed an authentic Hillary Clinton, she talked about her mom and her granddaughter. Somethings thats very different from the way she ran in 2008. Going back to another issue we have been talking about here, for democratic voters, they have incredible enthusiasm for her, still. And i think they continue to do that. When shes on the trial, she doesnt get questions about her emails. Her rivals were talking about a plan b. When are her rivals going to go negative you dont see senator sanders, you dont see goff omalley, theyre not going negative on secretary clinton because they know her strengths. Lets move on to the gop. Ben carson if you saw the interview with ben carson a short time ago, he doesnt want to attack donald trump, you can look at this sound bite about his faith and make your own judgments. Lowkey, softspoken guy, will this continue to work for him i wonder if his demeanor is part of his strength, because that lack of energy, he said im not a lowenergy person, that lack of energy, i think there are people, people of faith read that as im not worried about these small things, im not worried about this campaign, bigger things on my mind. Evangelical voters, that demeanor works. Hes a likable person as you pointed out in that interview. Okay, lets turn to donald trump and he reached yet another new high in National Polls this week, last few polls have shown trump climbing higher and higher and higher. What stops donald trump . Is there a ceiling . We dont know yet i think thats what has been so interesting about this campaign. The common sense that we have seen in other campaigns has not been the case this time around. I think for the rest of the gop candidates in this upcoming debate and i think further on is how you differentiate yourself from donald trump without playing on Donald Trumps field, because you cant outdonald trump donald trump. And one of the things that i noticed in the jimmy fallon interview, we played a short, little clip, a funny clip, but i want to show Something Else from that fallon interview. Trump seemed to be backing off a little bit. Lets listen to that. Im an efficient guy, i built a Great Company and not to be bragging about company, this is the kind of a mindset we need now in this country. We have to become rich again and were going to become great again. Was that a humble donald trump that i saw there . Who is this guy, as the Washington Post said. Donald trump 2. 0. I have covered him since january and february. I have seen upclose as a reporter the evolution of a candidate. Someone whos bombastic but sees the nomination in sight, without much consultation from advisers is becoming more disciplined. Robert is right. You can see signs such a nice crowd here thank you very much. Hes made a number of interesting subtle statements. I will support my partys nominee. Thats becoming a more conventional candidate. Hes thinking about maybe he has a shot to win this thing. Heres the factor that we dont know, hes very thinskinned. While he might be saying to himself and his advisers, look, you need to go a little bit easy here, because, yes, you are ahead now but youre having an issue with these chauvinistic comments. I dont know what hes saying now is going to hold, if in the debate for example you have jeb bush or scott walker or anybody else i want to talk about the other candidates. Lets start with Carly Fiorina. The comments he made about her face. What does Carly Fiorina do . Some of the other candidates. I think carly has been doing a lot of the right things in the last month. She came out and didnt sound like a politician in that happy hour debate. I think she should maintain the course shes on and continue to demonstrate not just she has the fire in the belly that a lot of voters dont see in many other candidates. She has very smart answers on things like Foreign Policy that caused people to take a second look at her. I think i she should maintained that kind of strategy. When shes up on stage with donald trump. I think the contrast will work out well for her. Observed trump and other candidates, three other candidates not named trump, at an event at iowa, trump arriveses, huge crowd, speech less than a minute. Marco rubio is in the crowd and is forced to answer questions about ethanol subsidies in iowa and the voters didnt like his answers. And realize at this moment, donald trump has succeeded to e being held to a different standard in a way trump is doing both. Hes saying the country is in terrible shape but look forward. Its a backwardlooking sort of optimism. Make America Great again. Whereas marco rubio has a more forwardlooks message. Theyre both optimistic but trump is rooted in a very different place. Just very quickly, 20 seconds here whats interesting, theyre going to be at the reagan library, who was more optimistic than ronald reagan. If the other candidates can make the contrast with Donald Trumps hate speech and you know, sort of this country is going to hell and what are we going to do about it . They could make a big contrast. Next, the nfl under fire over players safety, the leagues new medical adviser responds. Theres will smith in the upcoming movie concussion. Based on the true story of a doctor who studied footballrelated brain trauma. Lots of questions about how the nfl will be portrayed in that movie. And with the season now starting, the league is under fire to do more for players safety, so could that result in some big changes in the game . I spoke to the leagues new top medical adviser. Its the Fourth Quarter of the 2015 super bowl. On footballs biggest stage. Wide receiver Julian Edelman takes a monstrous hit to the head. Chancellor hit him hard. Reporter edelman manages to stumble forward. Hes cleared to play. He looked to me like a player who should be on the field . The answer to me is no. Reporter its nothing new, just this year the league agreeing to pay up 5 million each to retired players, without admitting any wrongdoing, after thousands sued allegedly the nfl played down health risks. For the league a potential billiondollar payout. They could come here to be value waited. Reporter and now the league has named cardiologist dr. Elizabeth nable, her job requires balancing americas love of the game with the safety of the players. Im thinking one thing about football after watching it for years, what they try to do in the training room is try to get them back out there. Yes. We have a standardized checklist. Reporter that checklist outline concussion symptoms and ask players to perform simple cognitive tests. But the doctor says even more research is needed. They can play a leadership role in understanding the scientific basis for acute and chronic brain injury. Is there a protein that indicates injury . How are helmets constructed . Can you use materials that will absorb the shock of contact a bit better . Reporter changing the face of the game means rule changes. Regarding equipment. Reporter my son played high school football, college football, and there were times when i thought, why did i let him do this in. Those are struggles that we go through as parents. We want our children to have rich life experiences. Engage in experiences that have deep values and team sports can play that role. And this is where the nfl can play a leadership role and they have a watershed effect on youth sports. Ten years from now, do you think football will be the same as it is today . The same game . Yeah, in ten years the game will be safer, the game is safer now than its ever been and the league will continue to make steady progress. Espns spent years investigating concussions take on nfl players. He joins us now. Mark, i heard the last comment there, im wondering what your reaction is, the game is safer than its ever been before. Its been watching the league evolve. From marketing the violence for years to marketing itself around safety. The argument is a loose one to make. You talked to players around the league and you talk to people intimately involved in the football, that argument is a hard pill to swallow for some players. We did a story on chris borland, who retired prematurely worried about brain damage, he said, look, the idea, the sport is what it is, i whatnt to play good football, good football is dangerous football. What about that balance . America loves football. You heard me say my son was a football player. What do you think has to be done to be balance those two things . Well, i think theres two different questions. The question at the nfl level i moon, i love the sport as well and i think the sport is what it is. So, players, now, for decades the leagues injustice was to deny this issue as we laid out in our book, this idea that football is connected to brain damage the league said no for years. But players, now, understand that and have to make their decisions about it at the nfl level. At the youth level thats a different question and i think this is part of what americas grappling with it. Bloomberg had a recent study showing parents dont want their kids playing football. We grapple with risk and reward. How much safer can you make a sport where inherently the idea is knocking heads into each other . Her comments, she said they go through this list of concussi concussions, you have to passed this test before they go back out. We dont know much about the brain. No question the science is very much in its infancy. One issue they grapple with, players want to stay on the field and so, theres a tendency players will tell you, to try to figure out ways to beat those tests. Mark, im going to have to thank you finally this morning, we honor our fellow americans who serve and sacrifice.
