Many of the 600 animals were being kept in what investigators describe as deplorable conditions. A variety of different environments. These victims families, at the time this people were convicted and sentenced, they were told the sentence was life without parole. We have had a history here in the last 20 years of what we call truth in sentencing in North Carolina. It is hard to go back to the victims families and tell them were going to have to resentenced these individuals. Reporter Defense Attorneys have a very different take on this. They say these defendants were so young when they committed these crimes they have the potential to be rehabilitated. They should be given the chance as they grow into adulthood to show what they can do and have some opportunity at release. It is only a human thing. It is just the right thing to do.
