relationship. students at gaston college pulled out scissors, construction paper and markers for a special cause. they want to spread cheer to veterans this valentine's day. >> reporter: thank you for since we have ended our terms in the military, and makes a difference to us. >> reporter: the association is making that difference by personally creating hundreds of valentines cards for vets living throughout local and surrounding communities. they have exceeded over 500 valentines cards, meaning more than 500 veterans are receiving personalized messages. from a thank you to a decorative show of appreciation, it gives students an opportunity to express themselves in a way they may never have before. >> they love it. little things like that mean a lot to somebody, and they need to hear that. because it is going to be a cold night tonight. the next couple afternoons will be pretty cold as well. take a look at the sky cam this morning. one thing we'll have to offset the cold a little bit today is quite a bit of sunshine going through the day. we may not have cloud-free skies in the background there, a couple flattened fair weather clouds. some of those may be around on occasion today. other times it will be clear blue sky. we have a north wind about 9 miles an hour at the airport right now and that will trend up to about 10 to 15, gusts to 20 or 25, so add that with the cold temperatures today and it will be chilly out there. now with a dew point of 6, and as we take a look at temperatures across the region, 29 rocky mount and right around freezing at southern pines and fayetteville. a lot of places in the south not far off that. our wind chills are generally in the low to mid-20s, 16 for a chill in greensboro, and could be in the teens and 20s for a while as temperatures edge up a little bit. in the mountain, places have gusting winds 35 miles an hour and wind chills are below zero. satellite and radar, we had that disturbance move across the region yesterday and gave us areas of wintry precipitation. the further northeast you went, the more we had, about 1 to 3 inches for parts of the outer banks. high pressure this morning building in off to our northwest, coming across iowa that's sliding toward the southeast. ahead of it, it pushed yesterday's frontal boundary to our southeast and an initial surge of arctic air reinforcing across the area and may have more later today and through the night. so we have cold air and stiff winds, dry air for today. we're watching a disturbance that's coming into the northern rockies right now. that will be drifting toward the southeast between now and monday, giving us a chance at precipitation as we kick off monday. dry day today with lots of sunshine, couple of fair weather clouds here and there, and stiff northwesterly winds. overnight tonight we begin with mostly clear skies and late tonight a few high clouds come in ahead of the next system. those may thicken up enough tomorrow to leave us mostly cloudy. we'll remain dry and cool, less wind tomorrow but more clouds to block the sun. same but not as biting with the wind chills. we could see a little snow in the mountains by mid- to late afternoon tomorrow and then we'll have a chance of that drifting in here by monday. today we have a high around 33 degrees, looks like at lunchtime about 28, 29. mostly sunny this afternoon, 32 at 5:00, and back to 26 by 8:00 p.m. tonight we'll have lows in the teens, about 15 in the tribe angle area. we start around 16, wind chills maybe in the single digits. lunchtime 27, 32 at 5:00. for a quick glimpse at monday, we could have mixed precipitation starting as snow, but the trend going through the day should be for a changeover to just rain and light precipitation in general. as we're starting the day, everyone light precipitation in rain could cause slick spots, so stay with us for that. 38 for the high on monday but temperatures go up monday night. by tuesday looking at a high around 57 with morning rain that could be heavy in spots and then a dry finish to the week after that, mid-50s to around 60 as we head through the second half of the week. that you think. a performed a surgical procedure on nate that was meant for another child. when told of the mistake, nate's mom last it. >> at that point i began to cry hysterically. >> it's recklessness. no excuse for cutting on a healthy child, no excuse for mixing babies at the hospital. >> reporter: attorney clint >> the physician goes in to cut the skin under the tongue to free the tongue for a child who's tongue tied. >> i felt like somebody had come in and taken him away from me and took him from the nursery and did what they wanted with him. >> reporter: it's unclear how the mixup occurred but nate's case begs the question, should babies as standard procedure be put in hospital nurseries? if he'd been left with his mother, this never would have happened. >> how can you prevent a doctor or nurse from cutting into your child without permission if you're not there with them? >> reporter: there is a growing tend nationally in hospitals to set up a mini nursery in the mother's room. there would be exceptions but what happened to nate is now sure to feed the transition away from separate nurseries for healthy babies. >> i can't even imagine. in other news, good news is specially handicap featured, was stolen. mike leary woke up wednesday to find his 2001 suzuki esteem gone. the single dad depends on that car to get his son to school and get to his job. and online fund raising page raised more than $5,000 and another company plans to outfit his new car with hand controls for free. he says he is overwhelmed by the response. >> we just had this outpouring from the viewers. >> love
