An alternate juror who heard the case was called back to court today to joi the jury which restarted its deliberations. They want to convince the jurors that schmuhl was so heavily medicated that he was in fact impaired when he staged that attack. Julie carey has our report. Reporter well, the defense team dealt a blow after a judge ruled they could no longer use the involuntary intoxication defense. They turned to schmuhls doctors and his wife to look at the possible impact of the heavy medications he was taking to deal with back pain and other ailments. Today schmuhls lawyers called his wife alicia to testify, hoping to asking her about his medical condition. Shes being tried separately, but once on the stand she asserted her fifth amendment right and declined to answer questions. Defense attorneys say she was the master mind behind the near deadly attack on a mclean lawyer and his wife bent on revenge after victim leo fisher fired her from his law firm. Jurors did hear about andrew schmuhls medical issues from this man, the va doctor who treated schmuhl at a pain clinic. Schmuhl schmuhl e eer schmuhl was ta 12 medications. Said the doctor, he was spending most of his time in bed. He couldnt take part in daily pleasures of life. His quality of life was bad. But prosecutors believe schmuhl was duping doctors, lying about his condition to get powerful drugs and they offered this photo as proof. Andrew schmuhl helping to reroof a house just two weeks before the attack, but other doctors testified schmuhl was in grave condition when he was brought to the emergency room just after his arrest. A doctor says she had to give him an overdose reversal drug to revive him. And by the way, there was no eye contact between the couple today when alicia schmuhl came to the courtroom. On monday, jurors will get to see texts exchanged between the couple in the weeks before the attack. Police say they have identified two men seen in recent videos driving dangerously on atvs. Investigators say they are determined to get those guys off the streets. The drug was fentanyl and the medical examiners report says it was selfadministered. Fentanyl is a painkiller that is far more powerful than morphine. Investigators have been reviewing whether a doctor was prescribing drugs for prince in the weeks before his death. Prince was found dead on april 21st at his estate in minneapolis. Here are four things to know about medications like fentanyl. There are a type of Prescription Drug known as opioids. They are most often used to treat moderate to severe pain. They can produce a state of euphoria and that can be habit forming. At least half of the Drug Overdose deaths in 2014 involved Prescription Drugs. Most of the time opioids were involved.
