The matter for now. Were live in south korea with the latest. And later, our sunday sitdown with Julia Louisdreyfus. Whats new on veep, her role. And doing political satire in the days of donald trump. We all make fun of the other guy. Our sunday sitdown. And harry smith a bit later in the show. Lets begin this morning with Vice President pence arrives hours ago in south korea where tensions are high after north korea test fired a Ballistic Missile that exploded just moments after launch. Good morning. Reporter good morning, willie. Just hours after a massive military parade of missiles and out a missile test, firing whats believed to be a medium rung or Ballistic Missile from its east coast. U. S. Officials confirms for nbc news that it failed. That it detected the launch, traced it. And it blew up almost immediately. And this came just after kim jongun had paraded his arsenal through. In his parade he had showed up what appeared to be a new type of intercontinental Ballistic Missile designed to reach the United States. Now that north korea launched something is not a surprise. Theres been speculation that Nuclear Tests were in the works. Whats unclear is the reaction to it particularly from the u. S. President trump has said that north korea is a problem that will be dealt with. But so far on this test, hes been quiet. With only a brief statement acknowledging its failure from james madis. Vice president mike pence is in a tenday tour of the region. Hes in seoul now and meets with south korean officials about u. S. Security concerns. So far, willie, he has barely acknowledged this test. His spokesman said frankly the response is not worth extending the resources so this whob the official White House Position to deny north korea the attention its seeking. Were seeing less brash white house on this. Jane, thank you so much. Ju juan, thank you for being with us. Grng mop. We did see this massive parade through pyongyang with what some experts are saying a volume of missiles they didnt think narc actually had yesterday. But then thats followed but b what should we take away from what we saw in north korea . I think we have a regime displaying its power. A whole range of missiles to include three types icbms, intercotton mental Ballistic Missiles. Even though the failed missile test is an embarrassment, it wasnt the nuclear test that many were anticipatinging. It does demonstrate this is a regime that continues on its march. As well as a nuclear program. So the clock is ticking here. And i think the military operated was an attempt to demonstrate strength internal any and externally. Juan, i want to take a step back for our viewers and ask you how you feel about north korea. Many people over the years has said its a paper tiger propped up only from the generosity of china. You see the tests again and again, you look at what Ambassador Nikki Haley has said that north korea is the number one threat to the United States. How do you think about north korea . I think north korea is the National Security wildcard. It presents the deepest and most dangerous problems. You have a rogue state thats developing Nuclear Components thats been shown to be willing to take both south korea and the world to the brink of war. And that even if it doesnt have the latest capabilities, the maximum capabilities, certainly has conventional capabilities that could do huge damage to seoul. And it is a regime that is so sort of unnerved that can create instability in the region. And so, this is a real problem. And the clock is ticking. The clock is really ticking here on the program. And youve seen the Trump Administration trying to change the calculus a bit. Saying we dont have time for strategy of strategic patience anymore. Thats why youve seen them trying to not only pressure china, but also position forces in a way to change the dynamics. Weve seen ve pence over there in seoul. Weve seen President Trump trying to exert influence on china. Asking them to do something about korea. What options does the United States have here . Well, the United States has several options obviously working with its allies, south korea, japan working with china and russia to try to pressure and restrain the regime. The goal here is to try to slow if not stop the nuclear advancements. And the big ticket here, can we get china which is the lifeline for the north korean regime, economically, diplomatically, even militarily, at the end of the day, can we get china to exert influence . Are they willing . And at the end of the day are they capable of changing the regimes behavior. Thats why youve seen so much focus on china itself as a linchpin in terms of changing what happens on the korean peninsula. Happy easter to you. Happy easter to you. President trump is deang with backlash over another issue here at home. Nbcs Kelly Odonnell live in West Palm Beach on his easter morning with us. Kelly, good morning. Reporter good morning, willie. Just picking up on your conversation, the president does have his deputy National Security visor here hes spoken with military leaders and the Vice President on World Affairs but this does not free the president of heat at home with protests around the country venting frustrations. Peaceful, it was not. In brooklyn, california, saturday clashes between demonstrators both for and against the president. Angry words. Scuffles, emotions boiled over. A string of arrests. While that got out of hand, a more focused message around the country were marching to demand that donald trump lease his tax returns. Reporter organized protests promoted as tax marches brought people together. Somebodys got to start to hold this man accountable. And celebrity sightings. Actress Debra Messing in new york. We want to see his tax returns . Why . Because we want to see what they show. Reporter reporter democratic politicians took on the president. It was resistance that did that. When we fight, we can win. Reporter in President Trumps florida backyard, West Palm Beach. Every other president has shown their tax returns i think theres something that they wants to hide. Reporter in washington, d. C. , marchers went past monuments. As candidate trump he refused and claim head would open his books when irs completes its audits. Does answer the audit is finished, it will be released. Reporter the president maintains he shar s will he paye of ta say dont hold your breath waiting to see his w2s. Hes not going to release his tax returns. We litigated this all through the election. People didnt care. They voted for him. Reporter and just a note, willie. The president we know is an avid user of twitter but he seems to have had a president ial pause. He tweeted friday early in the day and not at all on saturday. Of course it is Easter Sunday. There is no official schedule for the president , but there is an expectation that he will likely change Church Services with his family. They do belong to a church here in palm beach where he and melania were married and barron was baptized. Willie. Weve become accustomed to those saturday morning tweets. Nothing on this easter weekend. Kelly, thank you. Chuck todd is moderate of meet the press. Chuck, good morning. Good morning, willie. Lets pick up the question of tax has kungs over donald trump since he got into the campaign two years ago. Almost laughed at the suggestion, we dont have to put outer our tax returns. Weve said it every president since Richard Nixon has put out his tax returns. Is there any new pressure that he might actually provide information what hes doing in his Business Life . Look. If we ever see his tax returns and i do think we will at some point, it is going to be because some Government Entity forced them into the public square. Right. Is it a subpoena from one of the russian investigations on capitol hill . Thats possible. Or is it a movement among, you know, there have been some state legislatures that have proposed the idea of tying a release of the tax returns to the ability to get on the ballot to run. So, maybe it doesnt happen until 2020. And he files for reelection in various states. Maybe one of those states that have a Democratic Legislature forces it that but i think were going to see it. I dont think he will ever voluntarily do it. I think if it happens it will be some Government Entity that forces it. A reminder the irs said he could put them out despite the fact that he says hes under audit. President trump said barack obama was the least transparent president of all time. He talked about draining the swamp. Changing the way things are done in washington, d. C. But on friday, it was announced that the white house would not make public its visitor logs. Can you explain why that is important, chuck and why they are made public historically . Well look, its only recently, willie, has president obama was the first one to reless those visitor logs. But they had a lot of exceptions there there were ways, there were plenty of logs that didnt get released that they had different waivers that people would get oh, no, this cant be public, this cant be public. It was sometimes ever been done before. The argument that the white house made before, saying this wasnt fully transparents. Yeah, its better than before and future president s wont be away with getting away with it. At the end of the day, if they didnt face the pressure to face tax returns why do you think theyre going to freely the pressure to do this. Chuck, happy easter to you, my friend. We will be watching meet the press where chuck is joined by jack reid, john kelly and senator john mccain. Tens of thousands of christians have flocked to the vatican to celebrate easter mass. This is during dessert. I said, weve Just Launched 59 missiles heading to headed to syria . Yes, heading toward syria. He got so caught up talking about the beautiful dessert, the chocolate cake but we know what he meant, he meant syria. But in the middle of an air strike, obviously a very serious thing to talk about, to pause and plug the dessert menu at your club. Its extraordinary. Im curious to taste the chocolate cake. Well, it was big. Apparently there was a vanilla glaze. You had to see the chinese president with this cake, amazing. The first logos to the way one brother and sister felt this week about punishment handed down by their mother. Anpparent the two. Im going to make you all hold hands you can hear mom telling them they need to hold hands when they slow dance. I will say, you have kids they look like 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, between the two of them, that range, you do sort of have to get creative with new ways. I think thats a harmless punishment. Nobody wants to do it again. And they were completely miss rabl miserable . Is that right. The next high goes to 7yearold jonessa ride of utah. Her school was holding a crazy hair day. Jonessa suffers from al peachia. A condition her mom noticed in january. Before long, she had lost all of her beautiful brown hair. What do you do on crazy hair day . Well, mom had a plan.
