She saw colleagues leave for months on end after having a child. So she thought it would be good for anyone. She linked that idea to Maternity Leave and gave heat to a furious debate. That bundle of joy can be a challenge and its why new parents take Maternity Leave but megan turned that idea on its head with her novel called meternity. Its a woman that fakes a pregnancy in order to use paid time off to figure her life out. She is quoted but saying i couldnt help but feel envious when they left early to tend to their children. Saying meternity leave criticized parenthood. Maternity leave is not a vacation and sometimes not even paid. Its only a good idea if the people on meternity leave can only sleep 40 minutes every four hours for the next five years. But it was meant as a fun look at a personal journey and didnt mean to compare it to real life Maternity Leave. I actually think theyre very different. A Maternity Leave is a time youre fully focused on another human being and a meternity leave is a time for you. To take a step back. She took that step a few years ago going on her own meternity leave. I decided to save up a lot of money and quit my job and start to carve out a freelance writing career. She doesnt think get free time off. Pretty much all of my friends are moms and i see every day what they go through and how difficult their Maternity Leaves were. She respects how to moms she knows came back from Maternity Leave stronger than before. Experts say it can be a period of personal growth. Fast forward these important life changing decisions. Do i want to stay in this job. It gives them pause to think about these things and ask themselves is this where i see myself spending the next 15 or 20 years . Hard to think about repairing your relationship in one small thing. Whats something that we can do today to turn the page. One small thing you can do is dont wait to say im sorry. We think the other person should apologize. They think we should apologize. Its not going to happen. Be the one to take the initiative. When you think about forgiveness people think im giving that gift to someone else but in a way its a gift to yourself. It is absolutely a gift to yourself. So bitterness and guilt cause your st cause you have to unhealthy habits. Not only that but when we have positive relationships we actually live longer so its a gift for yourself. So you really need to fully forgive someone to get on that path to healing. Forgiveness is a process. Its not all or nothing. So the more you forgive the more benefits youre going to get. So its not forgive and forget right . We often confuse forgiveness with forgetting. Its not the same thing. Theres a difference between forgiving someone and reconciling with them. You could forgive someone and still think thats not a healthy relationship. I shouldnt go back to that. Absolutely. Forgiving is getting rid of the notion that that shouldnt happen. You can forgive and get rid of that anger but still decide not to get back into that relationship. Back to our one small thing idea. You have a good catch phrase in terms of deciding if you want to forgive something and fill in the blank is better than perfect. We think people should be perfect and theyre not. Whats better than perfect for you . Laugher. Maybe family gatherings so family is better than perfect. If youre going to say sorry, what is the one word that should not be part of the sentence . We dont vote the same. We dont even talk the same language. Im not trying to encompass all latinos. Im trying to tell my story. Over the course of my career ive seen more cohesiveness between latinos. Theres a unity there that wasnt there 25 years ago.
