Was it hard to get amanda knox to sit down and talk to you . It was a little hard. We let it be known to her if and when she wanted to talk she could talk to us. We first approached her and rafaelle when they were acquitted but two years later amanda said she was ready to tell her side of the story. And what did you hear, brian, when she finally sat down and talked about what had happened. What did you learn that we havent heard about this case . This is one of those people think they know everything about it. That was one of the things interesting for us going in. What we found is she has this kind of birdseye perspective on these years looking back someone that was caught up with the story. Everyone in the case has been thinking about it so much that theyre able to step back and tie it to a larger ideas and larger philosophies. You spoke to amanda and to raffaele who was her boyfriend. They were pretty open with you. We have another clip, i want to play it right now. My heart is beating so fast. You know, like, oh, theres romance now and i kissed guys who were just automatically like, hey, baby, like he was super nice and i was completely charmed and, yeah. Did you find them to be pretty open . That is a side of them i think we havent seen. They were all very open with us. I think they all felt like there had been these different versions of them painted and portrayed in the way the media was covering the story and they wanted the opportunity to talk been themselves in their own some of this other video which is before all of this happened, you see this young man who is so vivacious and so full of life and so different from the public image we associate with her. What does she say about how this experience changed her, brian, and is that something you notice in terms of her demeanor. We keyed into this idea of accidental select. These people have been caught up in the story. Its not only amanda and raffaele, but its the everyone in the world kind of has an idea of who they are. They walk around on the street and people recognize them and think that they know them already. One of the moments in the movie i think is interesting is amanda says people recognize me in line at the Grocery Store and they say i know you. And she says you dont know me. And for us that idea that after eight years of headlines all over the world, it was really, really fascinating. I have to say its not without controversy because although you talked to many players in the case, you werent Meredith Kercher is the person who lost her life here. Shes the center of the case. Did you try to talk to them . And how do you feel about the film without that perspective . We did reach out to the kercher family twice directly in 2015 and 2016. Wed still very much like to talk to them if theyd like to talk to us. They made it clear that every time they have to talk about this its reexamining this wound. We wanted to make sure people in the film remembered this was a tragedy at its core that became this piece of entertainment and caught the world up for the better part of a decade. We also reached out to the kercher family who declined to comment. Its an interesting film, takes a look at the medias role in all of this as well. You know, the last line in the play is one of the most famous curtain lines in the american theater, and every night now i can hear them like totally shocked because of what im about to do. Better than that, surprising them. The dialogue, the profanity aside, is rapid fire. I mean it is fast paced. I think somebody said it takes a lot of vocal stamina. These are pork ribs. Weve got them right there. Talk to me about the other ingredients. Then we put a little le to give flavor but not having to smoke it for hours and hours on end. Liquid smoke . Its a natural condiment. They use the flavorings from the chips. Coincidentally it was carsons nickname in high school. We have some vinegar and coconut sugar, which is a substitute for brown suga were going to mix all these in a second. Lets get to the process. First youre going to make the rub. So this is our so give them a little sweetness to go with the smokiness. We have chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper. The great thing about this rub, you can put it on chicken and barbecue it or a steak. So were going to use a couple of tablespoons w andcan save the rest in this jar. How far indvance to cooking do you put the rub on . You can do it right before it, do it a few days and wrap it up and get it in you fridge so eyeady to go into the but the rub you can keep in your pantryorix re nmo using a grill today, were not using a smoker, but were going to cook these two different ways. Yes. Were going to do them in the oven. I love that because we do love to do that during the summer where we can put them on the barbecue but we also like to enjoy them in the winter so we put them low and slow in the oven. They get really nice and tender and we finish them under the broiler to get them kind of crisp on top. Im can use tin foil. You make a tighty sealed pouch. Then flip it over and this locks in all of the steam which helps get them really,lly tender. 275 how long . Three or four hours until theyre really coming apart with a fork. You go that way, ill go this way. After 20r 30 minutes you start to smell tse in the house, which is th best part ofaking ribs. Guys, how is it tasting down there . Great. Spicy. A little bit of cayenne. So Barbecue Sauce is really easy to make. The storeboug versions have caramel coloringnd a lot of sugar so we saved some of our rub and we have tomato puree and a few more spices. Were going to add that together and mix it up and brush the ribs to finish it. Theyre going to have some fat in them so we can drain that out. This isnegar, a little bit o at coconut sugar, a teeny bit know what, if theyre too spicy too, you can lead a little cayenne or chili powder out. I have young ds, so i like to ma them a little bit less spicy. My husband likes spice. Perfect. So that gets all mixed up and you bru i on again .
