The night wears on. Live radar shows the mess covering the entire northeast coast. 29 Million People under a blizzard warning right now. Looking life right now across our area from the shore to philadelphia and down to delaware we are all going to see at least a few inches by the time this storm is over. Thousands of Flight Cancellations and major restrictions on roads from massachusetts to south jersey. Good evening im iain page. Im lucy nolan. A list of the closings scrolling at the bottom of your screen. Chief meteorologist Scott Williams has the track of this storm on your radar. Scott, some folks are looking out their window saying what snow . Absolutely lucy. That is because of location, locate, locate. As we look at ultimate doppler right now, you can see the heavier bands are still mainly offshore and also as you move into southern new england much thats where the brunt of this storm will continue to trend and really thats where the brunt of the storm always was in the forecast to be. But as we take look in between were still seeing some flurries and light snow a cross our area as we move toward the philadelphia area. Theres some snow taking place right now to our south and west toward the nations capitol. That snow is limiting the amount of snow that were seeing right now and also some of the heavier bands slow to move inland across our area. So as we take look at ultimate doppler right now lower merion youre seeing some of light snow snow. Moving into philadelphia prop also around willingboro as you move along 130 in sections of south jersey, cinnaminson looking at some of that snow. Heres where that heavy band of snow is moving inland right now. From long branch moving toward Seaside Heights, surf city and ocean county and then moving down toward bring teen Atlantic City seeing some of the wind blowing some of that snowfall around. So were really trying to wait on some of those bands of heavy snow to move a little farther inland but once again based on the trends that im seeing, its going to be a tough go of it as we take a look at the latest computer model you can see that area of low pressure will continue to intensify but once again, take look at the bulls eye or the jackpot f you will. Its to the north and east even of the new york city area into southern sections of new england england. So thats where were talking feet of snow, but the least snow that will occur across pretty much our entire area once you move to the west of the philadelphia area. So as we take a look, right now scattered snow showers across the area. Well still see heavier snow overnight through early tomorrow morning but its location, location location with those bands and that snow starts to fame taper off as we move toward tomorrow. As we watch the clock still see heavier bands move toward the philadelphia area. But the highest snowfall totals will still be to the east of us especially down the shore. So heres my updateed total map. You can see were talking a sharp cut off as far as the have and have nots with this particular system. As you move around philadelphia, ive downgraded it to four to 8inches so that is a change from earlier six to 10 across our area. Then as you move starter to the north and east, toward trenton eight to 12 likely on the lower end of that and then the higher amounts once you move into ocean and Monmouth County and upwards into sections of long island. So when i come back well talk much more about the timing of this system and other factor that is will play out as well as more chances for snow in that seven day forecast but it aint over yet. Thats where fox 29s Chris Oconnell is tonight. Chris you said the snow was just starting to fall a little bit ago. Reporter yeah, one of those bands comeing through and as you see you see right behind me a snowplow salting the streets here in trenton. You see going right past me. If you live in new jersey, you must listen to what im about to say. Because at 11 00 oclock about 29 minutes from now a travel ban goes into effect and will not be allowed on area roads. Police will stop you and tell you to go home. Governor christie ordering that earlier today for any nonsearch personnel state workers that means Public Safety, it means news media people clearing snow f youre not one of those people you must go inside at 11 00 oclock. They will revisit that travel ban tomorrow as conditions warrant. But here in trenton we said some of those banned starting to come. Weve seen the winds pick up also up here in Central New Jersey so its definitely going to be a long night. One more thing before i let you go this is my an mom meter wind speed this is real time weather. 24 degrees, wind chill right now but those winds are kicking up literally minute by minute. So for more conditions, further south of us lets go to my colleague Shawnette Wilson live at penns landing. Shawnette . Reporter chrises chris you mentioned the win. In a matter of minutes the snow flurries have stopped where we are at pennsylvania lapping in center city. But take a look down market street. Theres still plenty of traffic out here. The one thing weve noticed though is that the parked cars are gone. That was an order once the city declared a snow emergency at 6 00 oclock this evening. All parked cars had to be out of snow emergency routes on certain roads or face being ticketed and towed. For the most part over the past half hour weve been seeing businesses out throwing down salt just in anticipation of this weather to come. Were told by city officials that the first plow trucks will be at midnight the next round will come in probable ale round noon tomorrow of course that could change depending quickly and how much snow we see. Thats the latest from center city. Iain, back to you. Shawnette, thank you. Delaware on the low end of this storm. Heres life look from route 1 near Christiana Mall tonight. Deldot says crews are out in force to stay ahead of note most of the state expected to see between four and 6inches of snow. Your fox 29 winter wet authority hard at work as you well know. Scott williams what you got on tap right now . Right now lucy were analyzing ultimate doppler. Heaviest bands of snow still setting up shop down the shore and also offshore but were watching them try and peak their way a little farther inland and that will be the case overnight tonight with the progression of this storm. Also, note offshore you can see some of that lightning so it will be intensifying and that could mean some of those heavier bands will make their way a little farther inland. But right now as we look at ultimate doppler the heaviest of the snow is in monmouth as well as ocean county. It continues to try and pinwheel a little farther inland but a battle. Were looking at drier air as you move little farther inland and also we still have some snow on going to our south. So once this snowfall dissipates well see a better idea of how that snow will work itself in a little farther inn land. With that said, light snow right now in trenton also around Philadelphia Moving toward chester and wilmington moving into Burlington County. Some of that snowfall has begun. But the heaviest of the snowfall right now were looking at Seaside Heights, surf city, moving down toward Atlantic City city. So these bands offshore this is what were watching for the overnight and Early Morning time frame so as we look at 1am, you can see were looking at that heavier snow still a little farther to the east of philadelphia. Thats really been the trend throughout this entire event. By 4am were still looking at that snowfall moving a little farther inland toward the philadelphia area. But once again there is going to be that sharp cut off that we talked about. Take a look at the expected snowfall totals. One to 4inches. Once you move to the west of philadelphia. Philadelphia prop itself were looking at four to eight and were still looking at the potential for double digits north and east of philadelphia as well as once you move down the shore. So well zoom in a little closer closer. Doylestown, cherry hill, four to 8inches of snowfall for you and then you can see those amounts really start to decrease once you move toward places like west chester, chadds ford and into Lancaster County where youll likely see about an inch. As we move a little farther into south jersey egg harbor Atlantic City, eight to 12inch 12inches. Move a little farther to the west vineland Buena Millville four to eight and around the delaware bay area, one to 4inches of snow out of this event. Winter storm warnings are still posted pretty much for the entire area. Also moving a little farther to the west, we have those advisories and blizzard warnings still in effect for ocean county winds gusting up to 50 miles an hour. Look at future wind gusts were looking at those winds gusting at times up to 30 Miles Per Hour or a little over. So slick roads reduced visibilityies and once again i cant stress this enough, that sharp cut off between the light snow and the heavy snow weve been talking about this all week. As we focus in on the forecast for tonight temperatures in the teens low 20s blowing and drifting snow. That heavier snow continues to arrive during the overnight time frame and you can see tomorrow temperatures only in the low 30s and get this, we have more chances for some snowfall with clipper systems as we move toward friday and likely again sunday into monday. But this is going to be one of those events where were now casting and thats well continue to have updates throughout the overnight the half hour and once again good day begins at 3 00 a. M. The mayor says hes seen accumulation numbers thrown at him from two to 6inches. All the way up to 15inches. Well swing back around here. You may ask how many people are on the boardwalk right now . Zero. From here in front of caesars some snow accumulating weve had salting and a couple of brush trucks go by. I walked through the gaming floor about an hour ago. Maybe 200 250 people on the gaming floor roulette, blackjack, the slots things like that. But not lot of folk here in Atlantic City but the mayor did tell us there are several conventions here in Atlantic City. He would like to keep the gaming halls open tomorrow through the storm if he can. Theyll pay special attention to that here on the boardwalk to make access in and out. Plausible. Also worried about the back bay areas here where theyll get high tied around 1 00 or 2 00 oclock this morning it may rise as much as 7 feet. Theyre asking folks in the back bay areas to move their cars to Higher Ground. If you havent done that yet you should probably do it right now. You can go to the wave parking garage at fairmount and mississippi second floor and above and put your cars there. Just to be safe. The mayor is also concerned if we get a heavy snow accumulation in the water is in early this morning that it may freeze and have trouble getting back out and that would leave some flooding on the roadways. We also took a trip to ventnor tonight and margate and longport. Same thing along the back bay. The waves were choppy.
