Reporter Law Enforcement from across the region and several states came to pay tribute to lieutenant steven floyd, delawares first corrections officer killed in the line of duty. He saved a lot of people. I think that needs to be recognized. Reporter sacrifice honore honored. Hundreds gathering in Delaware State University for the public viewing for lieutenant steven floyd. The 47yearold corrections officer was killed during a prison up riding at the james t. Vaughn correctional facility in smyrna, delaware, last week. Good brother thats gone too soon. Reporter floyd was prisoners took him and three other Staff Members hostage nearly 20 hour standoff. Investigators say he died from trauma but have not elaborated on the cause of death. Colleagues say floyd warned others even as he was attacked and saved his fellow officers. Its something fellow Masonic Lodge member tony stuart says would have been Second Nature to the 16 year corrections veteran. All around nice guy. Including a 45,000 roof and window replacement job at his home from a south jersey builder and several seasons in which the eagles provided him with complimentary side line passes. Williams reported them as having no face value. So my decision to accept gifts and failed to report them but much em bar many, shame and adverse publicity to me and unfortunately to the office for which i love. For this, i will always hold deep regret in my heart. Reporter williams was first elected in 2009 as the first africanamerican da in pennsylvania. His ethics controversy attracted no fewer five challengers in many years democratic primary. Long time political observer larry seitzler believes absent further scandal, williams could have won. People vote yes or no on the incumbent, but once that incumbent has one challenger, then he has to hope he has many challengers to split the vote. And thats what Seth Williams had going for him. Williams touted his offices conviction rate on felony cases but that boast came at a cost. Local fraternal order of police rented a billboard to blast the da. The fop believes williams dumped case that is could have been prosecuted. John mcnesby was out of town. I reached him by phone. Officers out there in the divisions making arrests, risking their lives, and protecting the community, and detectives investigating those crimes, and then they go to the da office only to be declined because its not airtight questions. Williams offered this message of contrition to the District Attorneys office and its workers. I offer my deepest and most sincere policies. The owner is actually now offering a thousand dollars reward for information that will get his smoker back. It came from an employee at his restaurant fat jacks barbecue on the boulevard in the northeast. Its been out there for six years. Nobody has touched it. Fox 29s brad sattin went looking for answers in Solebury Township. Reporter the geese were shot yesterday in this pond behind me on woods ends drive here in Solebury Township. Their bodies now frozen in the water. So this video is tough to watch. They became a fabric of the community of our Little Community here. Reporter but tonight a sense of neighborhood safety here is shattered after witnesses say a man believed to have gotten away in darkcolored suv opened fire on five geese during the snowstorm thursday morning. Four of the geese were killed. The bodies of three of them now frozen in in this icy pond. The fourth was taken in for examination. A fifth was shot but was able to fly away. When it was discovered tonight near the edge of the pond barely moving, it was put in a car and rushed to the spca but in very bad shape. Hes bleeding. Hes shot. I think and theyre going to try and work on him. Shes bringing him over to the spca where theyll try and safe him. Reporter spca says all but one were domestic chinese geese a staple in this community along with canada geese. I know some people can be annoyed bite geese but these werent bothering anybody. If anything theres always on my property nesting under my deck. Reporter spca is offering 500 reward for information in the case. Neighbors say with children and pets regularly playing outside, particularly on a snow day, this could have been much worse. They want the culprit caught. For somebody to come on to our street and deliberately target them and shoot them and kill them, its very disturbing. That somebody could think like that. Somebody evil has to think like that. There was a witness who spotted a man with a gun but just didnt get a very good description. If you have any information give police a call. In Solebury Township, brad sattin fox 29 news. Three families are begging new jersey judge to close one North Wildwood beach. They are the relatives of three people who died when Hereford Inlet beach gave way underneath their feet. The families say its a matter of time before someone else dies there. North wildwood and the state says the deaths were due to a natural condition which the government has no obligation to fix. Governor Chris Christie signed every science legislation to stop foreclosures on houses damaged by super storm sandy. Under the law qualifying storm victims could get temporary stay of foreclosure proceedings if they have not yet received funding from rebuilding progra programs. Governor christie says the bill is quote sloppily written but he signed it because it gives relief to sandy victims. The Philadelphia Police department will implement a new policy on tattoos in the wake of a controversy involving an officer. The new rules prohibit Police Officers from having any tattoos that are quote offensive, extremist, indecent, racist or sexist while on duty. Now the changes come after an officer was photographed with tattoos that some said resembled nazi symbols. That officer was later cleared. The new rule also bans extreme body art like tongue splitting and head face and neck tattoos. Officers who already have tattoos will have to cover them up. Its been a week now after she was gunned down in her West Philadelphia home. Police still have no suspects. If you ever drive around west philly chances are you have seen the work of Winnie Harris. Newly planted tree or community garden. Well tonight harris is being remembered for making her community a better place. And her deeds were huge in the fact that shes gone. Its truly a shock to everybody. Reporter Winnie Harris would have been at this west philly Community Meeting front and center probably putting in her two cents to make her community a little brighter. But instead her friends were mourning her sudden and tragic loss. We cant understand why anybody would want to do such a thing to this lady. I mean she was really loved by all. Report roar harris was found dead in her second floor bedroom friday night. The 65yearold beloved Community Active visit was shot several times. But police still have no suspe suspects and those who knew her are still at a loss. Everyone knew her and everyone loved her. And its been quite a shock. Reporter harris was the acting executive director for you see green a nonprofit which helps plant trees and gardens all over west philly. And with every plant, she also put down roots of a stronger community. Shes like a force of nature. So she had motivation, particularly about gardening and greening and like she got it done. Her impact can be felt . Throughout West Philadelphia. She greened West Philadelphia. A funeral for Winnie Harris is being held on monday. Police are offering a 20,000 reward for information leading to a killer and the group is also starting a gofundme page to raise more money to go towards that reward. Tonight police are speaking out about a harrowing rescue that saved the lives of two women in southWest Philadelphia. The timing here was everything. Reporter phillys finest show their heroism every day, but they went above and beyond early this morning saving two women in their mid 60s from a Home Invasion in progress in southWest Philadelphia. Officers acted tremendously Community Act the tremendously. It started with three armed men barging into a home on the 2100 block of south 66th street around 2 00 in the morning startling a woman cooking a meal for her son who had just been working all night. One grabs her by the neck, puts a knife to her neck, starts threatening her. Asking where the money s takes her upstairs. Reporter the other victim woken up by the bad guys and threatened. Police say the neighbors heard screams from the house and called 911. Cops quickly surrounded the home outside while officers made their way into the back. Officers outside actually see the bad guys through a window and communicate with their colleagues on the inside. From there, they made the resc rescue. As they get to the Second Floor Center bedroom, the one female resides there shes tied up with speaker wire. They bring her downstairs and shes able to communicate that theres a second person upstai upstairs. Reporter second woman wrapped with speaker wire is also saved. Now the officers have to find the three men in hiding struggle ensues. In the back room when the males were underneath the bed the officer doctors struggle witness individuals. They were overpowering them and get the gun and 95 off them and get them into custody. Reporter the third suspect surrendered in another room the thieves are caught with cash and jewelry and face charges. And police say they are also looking at these suspects as possibly being connected to other robberies in the area. At southwest detectives, dave kinchen, fox 29 news. Jewish temple in northeast philadelphia saying thank you tonight to the community after vandals struck twice in a week. The temple in tacony showing off the new windows donated by Community Members after several of the windows at the temple were busted out. You see someone threw rocks at them in two separate incidents in recent weeks. The temples president said he was walking by the windows when a rock the size of a baseball was thrown into the sanctuary. He is touched by his community. Just overwhelmed as you can tell. Ongoing struggle in society to get people to recognize the importance of helping to feed the hungry. A lot of people recognize that its an issue but you still have to get creative and the food bank of south jersey come up with events like today to get people to donate but still have fun. Today is our construction competition. We have four teams who are building these giant creative structures all out of canned foods. And we estimate that 13,700 cans will be donated to the food bank of south jersey at the end of the competition. Reporter 13,000 cans of food is a huge donation to the food bank and although the ultimate goal of the can construction competition to help feed the hungry be clear the participants are serious about winning. What are you making . You always got concern when you ask what are you making and everybody goes its a giant chocolate bar. Reporter giant chocolate bar. Yeah. Reporter all right. How many cans is this going to take . A couple thousand. Its based off that. Were going to have the two dogs spaghetti and all of that. This is just the back drop for it. Reporter industrial products, candy bars and full movie scenes show the creativity of the teams competing and the fact that the food bank has created an event that companies epp joy while still donating enough food for thousands of meals that highlights their goal of making helping people fun. It gives them an opportunity to actually Work Together as a team and then they come here and they actually see the impact that theyre contribution makes report roar seeing the cans stacked and structured gives a visual of how many food is being donated and if that doesnt inspire you hearing how many families will eat because of the events like this that definitely should. One dollar provides five meals. So 13,000 cans is going to go a long way to helping people in need. Reporter four teams over 10,000 cans that will end up feeding 40,000 meals. But a lawsuit bearing his name could soon impact about 20 million Government Employees nationwide. This is not a choice. This is mandated. I have to do this and i dont agree with it. Report right to work laws make it he will legal for unions to force feed on workers. Janice is force to pay a fair share fee to a union. Theyre forced literally forced to pay these dues. Reporter fair share fee when employees who choose not to join a union are still required to pay a fee. Those payments a mass to millions of dollars. If you dont want that be part of a union, if you dont want to support their speech or their collective bargaining, no one should force you to be part of it. Some fee to cover those representation al costs is eminently reasonable and rationale.
