Among them Horsham Air Guard station, right here in our area. More than 150 public and private wells are contaminated with chemicals link to cancer in three neighborhood around the former willow grove base. It was primary from Fire Fighting foam so basically stuff you see on tv sprayed all over, the white foam that puts out fires. They have known about the contaminated water for two years and working on the problem by putting folks on the public water system. Many are concerned for their health. We have for myself over last 23 years and i dont know if those levels are going to eventually give me some kind of disease. So this is what im worried about. Epa just enacted strict standards in more wells in the horsham, warrington and warminster area failed those sample. Military says the public water is safe. Congressman boyle joins us now. Good to see you. So, they say it is safe. I would be worried. Give me towns again. Horsham, warminster and a lot of the surrounding, the surrounding areas. Would you drink the water there. I will tell you this the wells to have been taken off line would i not drink the water from. So this is exactly why we need a congressional hearing into this. First of all in terms of the this pronouncement that everything is safe, and there is nothing to worry about, we have no idea what the long range ramifications are of these chemicals. Other than the fact that they are pollutants. We do know that they have linked to some very serious things, very serious cancers, and the long term ramifications are still unclear. Just part of why the navy is stud thinking now. But i became deeply concerned when a, the fact that this problem even existed and there are over 600 military bases throughout this country that use the same Fire Fighting foam. What happens is, Fire Fighters will squirt that foam and then chem chemicals get in the groundwater. They seep in the groundwater. And we end up drinking it. You are turning on the tap and it turns out your seemingly safe water is not quite as safe. What is significant for these new guidelines, epa guidelines, just to let people necessity there might be more wells out there contaminated. We have been doing this on bipartisan basis, a couple of neighboring republican congressman who represent the area and i wrote a letter to the epa saying wait a minute you have one standard in new york, but here in pennsylvania you were saying water was fine when it was five times as high low of a standard and then epa revised it so it would be equalized. The point is contaminated then. One way to step a step back and look at this. Im on the Congressional Committee that had flint hearings. We have now learned that the navy knew about this since 2011. So when the piece say, the local officials knew about this for two years, that is correct but navy knew about this for five years. What else has the navy known that they have in the been telling us. They are not required to say anything to the local community about the contaminated water. Nor are they required to even clean it up. Right now they have been doing this on a voluntary basis. That is wrong. Only thing they have to do is tell us it is contaminated. There is actually in requirement that they even informed the community that the water is contaminated. This is a flint thing. I want to be careful in saying that. Im nervous that it could become a flint thing. It is not like flint in the sense of the scope. I met a number of those individuals, prototypes and where you can point to kids that have have now died because of the water. We dont have that. It is they like flint in the sense that it smacks of wait a minute it turns out people in government knew about this well before we originally, well before we were led to believe and that is why i believe congressional hearings with the power of subpoena is so important. Is there Something Else out there, is there anybody in these communities still drinking dirty water. I do not believe so, but at the same time, lets investigate lets find out. Lets make 110 percent sure. We have over 100 wells both private and public that have been taken off line. We know they are contaminated. I went there with the intention i was than the going to be a victim this would be a experience i should take in and yoga practice was there to look at self preservation and secondly to try to come back. I thought i lost my way. I was than the happy with a lot of things in my life. This was way i thought would be a hard way to go about reconnecting with who i am.
