They call for unaccompanied minors to have a preliminary hearing within seven days and will be sent home immediately if they dont have a special status or qualify for asylum. Lawmakers are still considering that administration request for 3. 7 billion to deal with the growing crisis. Right now, Frederick County sheriff Chuck Jenkins is at the usmexico border getting a firsthand look at the issue. Jenkins is joining a handful of sheriffs across the country. And the amount has increased dramatically over the last two years. Kids suffer the violent consequences of the drug business, from the cartels themselves, primarily the zeta and zinoloa cartels and the gangs that spawn from the cartels. It takes money for them to escape. The safest route, hire a human smuggler, to take you by bus up the center of mexico. It will take several days and is also the most expensive way. 4,000 to 7,000 say the children weve spoken to. If you take the road network, which is a safer and surer way, you need money. You need a smuggler whos got the route wired whos able to get bribes to the right people at the road blocks to make sure you can get through. They probably have a network of safe houses that you stay in along the way. [train horn] cheaper and faster is hopping a train, but that means sitting on top of a rail car exposing yourself to tunnels, low hanging branches and extortion from mexican gangs. You have to have a 100 bill on you and give that 100 for every couple of hundred miles of train track youre on, a new gang will demand a payment in order to not throw you off.
