available. >> we'll move to tacoma park where a man is accused of a death of his pregnant girlfriend and accused of murder. his bond was denied and the charges upgraded. the court records show that he stabbed maria veronica mbunga because he did not want to care for child. the montgomery school bus driver was stabbed 7 times. the defendant is due back in court later this month. the man that killed grace manns pleading not guilty by reason of in sanity. the trial of steven briel began today and peggy fox is covering the trial. hi, peggy. >> it is a bizarre case. the defense says that steven vander briel is a schizophrenic that thought there was a goeble organization divided by male and female and he thought he the defense attorney said the night before he killed grace mann, he called his mother and was rambling and confused and his mother told him to calm down and say some hail marys. he was catholic and knew how to say them and he looked it up and texted his mom since, hail mary, full of grace. the defense says his mom was trying to tell him that grace, his roommate was going to kill him and that's why he did it. the prosecutor says that is ludicrous, he hired apsychiatrist he was insane. >> in black suit and glasses sits motionless. charged with first-degree murder and strangulation and abduction in the murder of grace mann. they did not have a relationship. they did shar on april 17th last year mann left campus for a brief stop at her moment at 2:00 p.m. and at 3 her roommates were surprised to find she was there. bci el was covered in sweat and said something happened. i slapped her and she bit me and i strangled her. the roommates found her with a bag over her head and her face was blue and they could not save her. that day grace mann had been observing a day of silence to bring attention to the bullying of gay men and lesbians. she was openly gay and very involved in campus light and the senate and fem maist united and was on a task force. her father is tom mann, a juvenile judge in fairfax county. both of her parents are here in the courtroom, her mother did testify. she held it together through the parents sobbed in court and extremely sad. we have heard from holly that found grace's body and she says i pulled a comforter off of her and a plastic bag off of her head and bright blue and more plastic bags stuffed in her mouth and they played the 911 call she made and she was hysterical and testified that her other roommate was doing cpr but doing too late, grace was gone. the trial continues tomorrow. reporting live in fredericksburg,
