Im about two weeks overdue. He said no, this is not a good time to push it. In fact this is the worst time to push it. You know how sometimes they say you can go 3,000 or 40,000 miles, its okay. This time of year when it is this cold, you should not push it with your oil changes. Something else he suggested, check on that battery. Take a look at mine. Can you see that corrosion right here . That is not good at any time on your battery but especially not good this time of year. He subjected a few other things to check on your car this time of year in this weather, especially if youre going to be driving in it. Couple of those are the wiper blades. Make sure those are new. You should change those every six months. You should also make sure the coolant levels and the washer fluid in your vehicle are up high enough and that the temperature on those is tolerant enough so that it will not freeze in these bitter cold temperatures. Heres some other advice he had for us. You also want to have, you know, fully the walker fluid filled up to the maximum because with all the salt on the roads, you need to be able to clean the windows and everything. Looks like theres little to no progress on the labor dispute on the coming up on 6 25. Here are some things you may have missed. Under this administration we are inconsistent and indecisive. We have lost the trust and confidence of our friends. Reporter despite his legacy, a new cbs news poll shows bush leading Mike Huckabee by three points for the republican nomination followed by Florida Center marco rubio and Texas Governor rick perry. He clearly has a famous name in politics but it also means he has a job to do in defining his own name. Reporter the cbs news poll also shows little enthusiasm for new Jersey Governor Chris Christie and overwhelming support among democrats for hillary clinton. 81 say they will likely consider her as their partys nominee. But overall, the poll finds fewer americans paying attention to the president ial campaign compared to the same points in the 2008 campaign, a sign both sides will have to work hard to turn heads. Susan mcginnis, cbs news, washington. Yesterday jeb bush aides also released a list of informal policy advisors, Foreign Policy advisors, many of whom who served under both his father and his brother. Good morning and welcome back to wusa9. It 16 29 and youre waking up to temperatures in the teens across our entire region. But wait. Theres more. Or less. Or less, yes. The frigid temperatures have led to closures and delays. Theyre running at the bottom of your screen. When you leave, you can take them on the wusa9 mobile app. Allyson, howard, larry, were all here to help you get out the door this morning. The best advice is to layer up. Lets start with those frigid temperatures and what we have to expect. Well, were expecting even some Single Digits now. Windchills plus 5 to minus 10 today. Dangerously cold. You think its bad today. Tonight will be the worst. Dangerously cold this morning, tonight, tomorrow morning. We dont lose that wind until tomorrow afternoon. So lets take a look outside. Its going to be really sunny and beautiful to start the day but the temperatures just are not reflecting that. 15 degrees. Thats very similar to where we were yesterday, but now the wind is here and that wind is not going to be nice to us. It feels all of 1 degree. And the wind is going to be gusting even more so for this afternoon. Feels across the area below zero for a lot of spots. Not going to feel much above zero for the rest of the day. Winds will continue to pick up out of the northwest bringing in the cold air and also bringing in a couple of flurries and clouds but the temperatures are the big story. The flurrieses are not going to be a big deal at all. Near the zero range all day. Tomorrow is the worst. Well get to that coming up with howard. Larry, thats going on with traffic . You dont know you need a battery until you turn the key and it doesnt work. Nikki burdine has more on how to winter rise your vehicles and prevent some of these problems. Reporter good morning. I always find the best advice comes when you ask a car mechanic what do you do on your personal car, tell me. So i asked them yesterday. I went to the aaa Car Care Center . Gaithersburg. They said first and foremost you have to look at the tires on your vehicle. Even though its not snowing or raining, its still very slick and there is still snow out there and there are still a lot of spots of black ice. Look at your tire. Make sure theyre not bald. You need to make sure you have snow tires on your vehicle. He said he puts them on all four of his tires but if you do not want to have them on all four, you just want to spring for two, put them on the back two tires. Skip the front two, just the back two. Some other things he subjected. Check the battery. That is the most important thing. He also said you need to check the coolant level and make sure that it can with strand freezing overnight in owe withstand freezing overnight in these frigid temperatures. Overall in general, the car Care Specialist at aaa says he just takes extra good care of his car this time of year. Some other things you can do to keep everything running is, you know, you want to make sure youve had a tuneup done, you know, spark plugs and everything. You also want to make sure the alternator is putting out enough charge that the battery also doesnt die. Thats another way to kill the battery. Reporter so now is really just a good time to go in and get an overall checkup on your car and see how things are working. So if youre like me, host people this time of year may neglect the outside of your car. See how dirgty my car dirty my car s. Please forgive me.
