Mm. Oh, Oh, Oh! Oh E Oh hmm. Mhm. Hello and welcome to the North Carolina State Capital Tree Lighting ceremony. I'm Secretary Suzy Hamilton, and on behalf of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resource is we appreciate you joining us from home to kick off the holiday season in North Carolina today marks the 42nd annual lighting of the state capital tree and the very first time we're hosting this event. Virtually. We're all finding ways to carry on our beloved holiday traditions while keeping our families and communities safe. This year has challenged us in so many ways, but North Carolinians are creative and resilient. It is my hope that this beautiful Fraser for on the grounds of our state capital will serve as a reminder of our strength and spirit throughout the season. I am grateful to the State Capital Foundation for sponsoring our tree this year and to the North Carolina Christmas Tree Association for donating the handsome wreaths that adorned the outside of the capital. It is now my honor to introduce Governor Roy Cooper and first lady Christin Cooper, who are ready to lead us in the countdown toe light the tree Thanks, Secretary Hamilton. Hi, everybody. I'm Governor Roy Cooper, and I'm first lady Christin Cooper. Like many traditions this year, tonight will be different from ceremonies in years past. But we know the holiday season isn't complete without the annual capital tree lighting. During each ceremony, I typically take a moment to say how thankful I am to the people of North Carolina. While we can't be together with hot chocolate and holiday music this year, I couldn't miss this opportunity to express how much I admire North Carolinians and their resilience. Throughout this pandemic, I've seen neighbors helping neighbors and community stepping up to help the most vulnerable. We're so thankful for the health care workers, the first responders who have made sacrifices to help keep us safe and healthy, the front line workers who keep our state running and the educators who have gone the extra mile for their students online and in the classroom. We also want to thank volunteers and staff members who worked extra hard to get the capital and the executive mansion ready for the holidays. While also following safety precautions, everyone is welcome to drive by and check out the holiday decorations outside the people's house. Just remember to wear your mask. Re imagining our favorite traditions is difficult, but protecting our loved ones now is the best way we can make sure they're able to be with us for next year's holiday Meals and tree lightings. Thanks everybody so much. Okay, now let's light this tree. Ready? Five, 4321 Merry Christmas. Everybody way. All right.
