The vaccination rate in Oklahoma is below the national average. The Sooner State is almost 10 percentage points lower than the national average. Health officials in Logan County are reporting some of the lowest rates in the state. Jan Fox with the Logan County Health Department said more than 31% of residents have received at least one dose of the shot. The percentage of those fully vaccinated is even lower."That's population over the age of 12 which compared to the rest of the state is a very low vaccination rate,” Fox said.Fox said Logan County’s rate also lags behind neighboring counties."Why that is, I'm not exactly sure, but I do believe that within your social network,” she said. “So if you're living in a community where your friends and family are vaccinated, you're likely to be vaccinated."She said two groups are hesitant."The one group that's just very distrustful of vaccines, and are concerned about the rapid speed in which the, they were approved,” she said. And the group that remains undecided."They don't see vaccination as an urgent need … or maybe their life is just such that it's not convenient to get it,” she said. And with the delta variant affecting the unvaccinated population, Fox said health officials are working nonstop to get the word out that vaccines are safe. “We're putting information out almost daily on social media about the importance of vaccination. We also have some new mobile vans we're taking out,” she said. She said you can make an appointment or simply walk into the Logan County Health Department for your shot.
