Than an inch, doylestown. 85, pottstown about a half inch. Atlantic city youll notice really hasnt gotten into the action quite yet, only. 02 of an inch. An additional quarter to a half inch of rain again causing minor street flooding where you have the poor drainage then temperatures crashing as an arctic boundary moves in and this could cause an icy mix in the far north and west suburbs. You can see right now were in the 60s but temperatures in the 30s behind it. Weve got Winter Weather advisories. Ill talk about that coming up in the full accuweather forecast. Gina. [inaudible] traveling out right now i do have some good news. That earlier tractortrailer that we had in langhorne on 95 has cleared. Now were just sort of waiting for this delay to really run its course but it looks like for the most part youre moving along, a little slower than you should be but the tractortrailer is gone so things are going to be moving along a lot nicer now for you. Lets also take a live look at the big picture so you can see what is happening. We have some slow speeds out there in particular on 95. That northbound side very heavy from allegheny all the way out through to i would say about the betsy ross bridge so a little backup there and if youre traveling on the vine street expressway that eastbound side will be heavy about 11 Miles Per Hour and look at that, 4 Miles Per Hour on the schuylkill expressway. It is jammed out there especially if youre traveling on this and on this eastbound side around Spring Garden street. You can see we are definitely crowded here but it looks like on that westbound side youre delayed fifty two minutes between the vine out to the blue route so definitely give yourself time there. Westbound at Spring Garden it is fine but the biggest chunk of your westbound delay montgomery out towards that conshohocken curve going to be a slow go. Eastbound the heaviest part of your backup from gulph mills out to the vine street expressway. Time needed out there especially on the schuylkill expressway and on the vine street expressway maybe not so much on that westbound side as youre only tapping the brakes but the entire length out there on that eastbound side going to be very crowded. Brian and monica, back to you. Thank you gina. You can get updates on the forecast and check storm tracker6 live throughout the weekend right there on your phone or tablet. Mr. Trump signed a proclamation in remembrance of mlk day which is on monday. It was yesterday when the president questioned why the u. S. Would accept more immigrants from haiti and then referenced africa using an expletive. Hours later he said this. Today we celebrate dr. King for standing up for the selfevident truths americans hold so dear that no matter what the color of our skin or the place of our birth, we are all created equal by god. Two members of the senate were in that meeting confirmed that the president used that word though he has denied it. Mr. Trumps comments are drawing reaction from democrats, republicans and World Leaders and well hear some of that reaction coming up a the at 5 30. Kentucky will be the first state to require medicaid recipients to have a job to get coverage. The Trump Administration announced individual states can mandate employment for certain medicaid enrollees. Officials expect that change to save the state 300 million but as many as 95,000 residents could lose their benefits. The wait is almost over. The eagles show down against the falcons is nearly here. The cdc says the flu epidemic is now at epidemic levels across the country but disease experts think the outbreak is now stabilizing. Although cases continue to mount the number of states reporting high levels of the flu is the same as last week. So we may have hit the peak. The h3n2 virus which causes more severe symptoms and complications continues to be the dominant strain this year. A School District in idaho closed all of its schools and alabama declared a statewide emergency. Still about three months left to flu season so if youve not yet been vaccinated the cdc says do it now. With the new year many folks renewed their commitment to exercise more but experts actually say dont overdo it at the start. They recommend slowly building your intensity and the time of your workouts. That does lower the chance of strains and other overuse injuries. It also decreases the risk of a more serious condition called rhabdo. Thats when someone really overdoes it and their muscle cells actually begin to break down. The enzymes and proteins buildup so much the body cant process them. They cant filter them enough. Muscle soreness after a workout is okay but if your muscles are weak that could be a sign of trouble or rhabdo. So check with your healthcare provider. Meteorologist cecily tynan here with the all important details. Hi, cecily. Hi, guys. Certainly a very soggy day today. This storm system is not done with us yet. Weve got some heavy rain. Its moving out of Northern Virginia and maryland and that will be moving in tonight. But with the rain is coming a surge of very warm air. Weve had record highs. Trenton a record high of 65, allentown the same, reading 64, thats a record. Poconos a lot of records going on at the ski resorts a record high of 58 degrees. Philadelphia made it up into the mid 60s but our record is 72 so not quite a record here but right now you can see with this strong wind out of the southsoutheast its very warm inland. Philadelphia 61, allentown, reading, trenton, 64 degrees. Millville 56. Notice, though, that ocean temperature 34. Cape may with that wind off the ocean, quite a bit cooler, 45 degrees but still pretty warm for january standards. So, the next 12 hours we continue to get that rain. Some of it will be heavy and once the arctic front blows through, temperatures dropping very quickly but until then, well be pretty mild generally in the 60s and 50s right past midnight. Future tracker showing if youre heading out, its friday night heading out to dinner maybe the movies, pack the rain gear, umbrella, at 8 oclock we have heavy rain especially south of philadelphia. As we head through the overnight hours weve got another batch of very heavy rain. Around 2 oclock in the morning dont be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder. Its Strong Enough with an arctic boundary blowing in that we could actually get some thunder and lightning and notice up across the poconos at 2 oclock in the morning some of that icy mix, that could sneak into the northern lehigh valley, berks county around 4 30 in the morning and thats really the last of the rain for philadelphia. The arctic front blows through. We get the return of some sunshine but temperatures dropping very quickly. So, we have a Winter Weather advisory posted. It starts at 1 oclock in the morning. Honestly i think the icing will hold off probably until about 2, 3 oclock but the advisory in effect for lancaster, berks county, the lehigh valley, Northampton County and the poconos. Not expecting a lot of icing but even a little bit of icing could cause some major problems. Then if youre heading to the linc tomorrow afternoon for the eagles game, it will be dry but its going to be cold. First quarter the temperature is 33. By the fourth, 27 degrees. Throw away those numbers. Look at this number. Wind chill in the teens with winds up to about 30 Miles Per Hour. Definitely on the cold side. So, the five day at 5 00 showing tomorrow temperatures dropping. We dry out. Were in the 30s. Sunday only 27. Monday for the Martin Luther king holiday increasing clouds, 32. Tuesday and wednesday the potential for some snow and then temperatures drop even more after that. Well talk about that in the sevenday forecast. Find the winter coat guys. All right, it has had to come back. Thank you cecily. Much more still ahead in our next half hour of action news. Stick around, well be back. ,000 in america last year. President trumps comments about immigrants from certain countries garner backlash. Were live from washington with the latest on the fallout. There is widespread and worldwide condemnation today of those comments by President Trump after he reportedly used vulgar language to describe african countries while discussing immigration. Well, the president tried to back pedal on those comments today. One prominent lawmaker who was at the meeting says the president words were vial and filled with hate. Kenneth moton joins us live with fallout from those comments. Reporter brian President Trump is en route to maralago. He had one public event today but he refused to address those alleged comments on immigration. President trump honoring the man who called for racial justice. We are all created equal by god. Reporter the president signed a mlk day proclamation. Mr. President are you a racist. Reporter but ignored questions about reports of his use of an offensive term. He was angry when he was told a possible deal on immigration would include protection from immigrants from african countries and haiti reportedly saying why are we having all these people from expletive countries come here. Trump did tweet friday morning his language was tough but this was not the language used. Another quote never said anything derogatory about haitians other than haiti is obviously a very poor and troubled country. Never said take them out. Made up by dems. It is not true. He said these hate filled things and he said them repeatedly. It was a heartbreaking moment. Reporter republicans tom cotton and david purdue also in the room said in statement we do not recall the president saying these comments specifically. Other lawmakers condemning the alleged remarks many have called racist. Always a Great Customer and a great a life. Sources say trump suggested the u. S. Should bring in more immigrants from places like norway. House Speaker Paul Ryan called the comments unfortunate and unhelpful. I think its a big part of our strength whether youre coming from haiti. Weve got great friends from africa in jamesville who are doctors who are just incredible citizens. Reporter the president s tweets came after the white house had not denied the reports saying the president wants to welcome immigrants who contribute in and assimilate into our great nation. Reporting live Kenneth Moton channel6 action news. As the fallout from the president s comments was still unraveling mr. Trump fired off a tweet announcing that he canceled a visit to london to open a new United States embassy there. He said his cancellation was because his predecessor barack obama sold the old embassy for what mr. Trump called peanuts. The problem with that is that the deal was actually made in 2008 under then president george bush. The president s cancellation sparked widespread mockery on twitter even prompting Madame Tussauds to put its wax work of the president outside the museum. President trumps visit was expected to have taken place next month. Now to the latest from california where rescuers are digging through debris trying to find any sign of five people still missing after those deadly mudslides. Nearly the entire city of montecito is under a mandatory evacuation order. 10,000 people have been forced to leave their homes so search crews can get access to the area. At least 17 people were killed, more than 500 homes and businesses have been damaged or destroyed. Residents there know that hope is fading for those who have not been located. The Fire Department keeps coming in and checking on us and were supposed to call them if we find any bodies. Evacuation orders are not expected to be lifted for another two weeks and we now know that those killed include a little threeyearold child. World news with david muir will have the latest from Southern California as well as more from fallout from President Trumps comments. All that coming up after action news starting at 6 30. From our new jersey news room now former Mercer County public official now faces five years behind bars after pleading guilty to theft. Investigators say mark holmes sr. Former mayor of Lawrence Township stole more than 90,000 when he was executive director of the asbury park housing authority. They say he did so by diverting state grants collecting reimbursements for unauthorized meals and double dipping on per diem payments. In addition to possible prison time holmes must also pay 35,000 in restitution and forfeit his government funded pension. Turning to the weather now, accuweather has an alert after one of the rainiest days weve seen in quite awhile. The rain washed away a lot of snow and that led to some other problems. The action cam along Martin Luther king drive today. You can see cars struggling to get through high water. It was slow going as even trucks and suvs had trouble making it through the flooded roadway. Meteorologist adam joseph here now with our first check of the accuweather forecast. Hi, adam. Yeah, monica the problem was the heavy rain also some snow melt and also the ground is pretty much frozen solid except the very top layer so the water cant seep night ground it just runs off and collects in some area roads. We picked up about a inch and a quarter so far in philadelphia and were not done yet. Wilmington over an inch doylestown over threequarters of an inch pottstown half an inch and far less in south jersey where we just barely have gotten over a trace in Atlantic City but dealing with some very dense fog down at the shore. Storm tracker6 live double scan you can see we do have rainfall out there but its very light. Its not heavy at this time. Theres no yellows or reds but that will change going into the evening hours as heavier rain develops but nonetheless, evening rush and a little light rain and wet roads creates quite a mess especially on a friday busy evening. Storm tracker6 live 3d we have low pressure which is in the tennessee valley. Thats going to cut way to the west but flows to the south theres some bands of heavy rain that will continue to work up from the south and then cold air on the backside and that rushes in here late tonight into tomorrow morning. So, well see an additional quarter to a half inch of rain overnight which could kind of ignite minor street flooding once again. Temperatures will crash near dawn, maybe an icy mix in those far northwestern suburbs. After about 4 oclock in the morning, so there is a Winter Weather advisory after midnight to 10 00 a. M. Saturday where there could be some icy spots that some sleet or freezing rain at the tail end but this doesnt happen until the wee hours of saturday morning. Were talking about wind chills, brutal wind chills for the eagles game guys, coming up in that full accuweather forecast. Okay, adam thanks. See you shortly. It is time to check on the evening commute. All right gina gannon live in the action news traffic center. She has details. Hi, gina. Hi, guys. Unfortunately were starting off with another issue this one on the ben franklin bridge. Actually it looks like it just cleared so there you go, some good news. We had an earlier accident on the westbound side of the ben franklin bridge right at the upside. It was out here blocking that left lane but it looks like it has just since cleared so some good news there but expect a bit of congestion out there approaching the vine street expressway. Lets talk about what else is happening on the schuylkill expressway. Look at this big, big westbound delay. If youre traveling right around city avenue. So, thats going to be a slow go for you. Your westbound travel time right now about 38 minutes between the vine out to the blue route and 41 minutes out there on the eastbound side. Now, westbound expect delays from montgomery out to the conshohocken curve and that eastbound side 202 out to the vine street expressway so going to be crowded on the schuylkill expressway. But if youre traveling on the roosevelt boulevard i would say looks like we are just about wrapping up with this delay but northbound still heavy 76 out to broad street and it looks like on that southbound side youre just tapping the brakes as you approach 76. But i want to talk to you about a new issue on the pa turnpike eastbound just approaching street road word of an accident with injuries out there and the left lane is blocked so that could definitely slow you down and it looks like as well that the southbound side of route one is slowed down as well because of that. So little problem this afternoon. Guys, back to you. All right, gina, thank you. The Upper Darby Police department is trending on social media once again after a twitter post showing how they thwarted an under aged drinking party. They tweeted this picture telling young people to hold off on buying those red solo cups for a party behind the Aronimink Swim Club because as you see this guy got there first. Officers confiscated the kegs before any kids showed up and not surprisingly this post is now going viral. Still to come on action news tonight were less than 24 hours away from kickoff as the eagles prepare for their first playoff appearances in four years. Well show you how some folks are cheering the birds on as players get ready for the game. Plus, if youre looking for some ideas to freshen up your house or even a total home makeover the philadelphia home show has opened its doors. Well take a peek at just some of what its offering this year. But first youve been sending amazing photos of your eagles spirit. As we go to break heres a look at some of the very best of them. Well be right back. Fly eagles fly on the road to victory. Fly eagles fly got to love it. Residents and staff at the Wesley Enhanced Living Center in media cheered on the eagles today with that rousing version of the fight song. Everyone enjoyed football themed snacks and spent some time reminiscing about their favorite eagles memories. Nice. And students in cheltenham showed off their eagles spirit with a pep rally. They proudly wore eagles green and held signs they made cheering the team on. The young terse were stories were joined by a furry friend sporting his eagles gear. The eagles first playoff appearance in four years. The Atlanta Falcons arrived in town just a short time ago. The action cam was there as the team prepared to check into their hotel. What will it take for the eagles to prevail in this battle of the birds. Jeff skversky and ron jaworski have this weeks birds break down. All right thanks guys. Eagles with a huge game. First home playoff game in four years tomorrow against the Atlanta Falcons. Lots of concerns about nick foles going into this game but by all accounts Doug PedersonAlshon Jeffrey saying foles is looking more comfortable and hes in better command of the huddle going into the game. Im not going to worry about nick foles. I think hell be fine against the Atlanta Falcons. I like the way the eagles approached the 2016 game against the Atlanta Falcons a game they won 2415. It was a manhood style of game. A youll see six offensive line men on the field for the eagles. They used this 12 times this game against the falcons and of course a tight end. So now youve got seven on the line. Of those 12 snaps they had with the heavy group they had 57 yards. Thats almost 5 yards per attempt. Run that tape and you will see this is matthews in game in 16 but the same plays the eagles ran against the falcons two years ago, youre going to see it in this game tomorrow. Look at the ability of the running back to cut back. Ajayi will see that get to the outside but its the manhood style again. Come off the ball. Run the football. Jay ajayi had 130 yards against the falcons earlier this seen season playing for the dolphins. Lets take it about the eagles defense. Huge part of this is getting to matt ryan who has been horrible at the linc. Hes lost three of his four starts here. Same approach defensively down in the trenches, dominate. Thats what you have to do. Falcons only rushed for 48 yards against the eagles in that 2016 game. Make them one dimensional. Now here comes the eagles in the trenches. You got fletcher cox, bran dom graham. When the center goes away that leaves oneonone. As we look at this right now youll see the center move away, jeff. Once you give cox and graham oneonone, down goes the quarterback. This is what they are good at. Predictable situations creating oneonone matchups and get after matt ryan. Control the line of scrimmage force matt ryan to throw the football and attack. That will be Jim Schwartzs game plan in this matchup tomorrow. Were seeing matt ryan go down in this video. Well see if he goes down tomorrow. Who is going down in this divisional game . Is it the eagles or the falcons. Can you give me a drum roll. This is exciting. Thats bad. I like the Atlanta Falcons 20 Philadelphia Eagles 21. There you go. Way to go. Eagles going on to the nfc title game if joren jaworski. Im Jeff Skversky. Back to you guys. Students in logan got a huge surprise at school. They got 150,000 from wells fargo. The oversized check was presented to students during the schools honors convocation. Officials say the money will be put towards student scholarships. Honored individuals in Atlantic City today who continue to uphold the principals of dr. Martin luther king with their involvement in the community. Two youth advocates were given the countys Community Spirit award. Jermaine berry is the director of the council for youth program. She couldnt be there for a illness so her son accepted on his behalf and Michael Bailey former executive director of the Atlantic CityPolice Athletic league and junior football coach. Very nice. Still to come that exclusive accuweather forecast for the weekend. How about a live look outside right now sky6 giving us a view of the ben franklin bridge. A layer of fog floating over the river there. Adam Joseph Standing by with accuweather details when we come right back. As the rain continues to come down mobile6 hitting the roads to check out any up and downing or puddling that might be an issue for the evening commute and really not much of an issue right now as you look live from mobile6 at the bensalem exit of the pennsylvania turnpike heading westbound. Everything in this spot at least moving along pretty well right now despite the rain. Of course always a good idea to take it slow out there. Lets make sure we turn the faucet off now with adam joseph. Wont be until tomorrow morning that the faucet turns off. Now that its darken countered big puddles in area roadways dark so you dont see it until the last minute. Just take it easy as the rain kicks up in intensity. The storm is down in the tennessee valley. Cold air on the north side with the cold sleet freezing rain in the ohio valley but we still have quite a bit of precipitation coming up the pike there i95 so again, even though theres a temporary lull right now theres heavier rain there is going to move back in. But as we take a look closer here on storm tracker6 live double scan there you can see a general light green philadelphia to the north and west which is the steady light rain despite its not heavy roads are wet, the rain is falling, windshield wipers are on and if you encounter some fog, you definitely want to put the low beams, not the high beams because the less light that you send out when it hits that fog the less light is refracted and reflected back into your eyes. So, well continue to watch that radar for you. As we look at temperatures, 61 degrees in philadelphia right now, 64 in allentown. 63 trenton. Record high temperatures today for allentown and trenton, wilmington and the poconos. Right now were generally in the 50s and 60s and well stay this warm at least through the midnight hour so theres no threat of any icing happening here before the midnight hour.
