FRAMINGHAM – The city’s first mayor is seeking a second term. Mayor Yvonne Spicer officially announced her reelection bid in a video message Thursday morning. In 2018, Spicer became Framingham’s first mayor and the first popularly elected African American female mayor in Massachusetts. The former teacher defeated former selectman and current District 8 City Councilor John Stefanini in the November 2017 mayoral race. Spicer is running, she said, in part, to lead Framingham through the post-COVID-19 recovery and revitalization. (Shutterstock / Wangkun Jia) FRAMINGHAM, MA Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer launched her 2021 campaign on Thursday, and is entering a reelection year with close to $30,000 in her campaign coffers. Although Spicer was quiet about her 2021 plans until this week, she s been accepting contributions since she took office in 2018. She began 2020 with about $11,000 in her campaign account, and held key fundraisers in July and December 2020 to boost her to near the $30,000 mark. With campaign season underway, Patch dug into Spicer s fundraising efforts since January 2020 to find out where in the state and nation her donations are coming from.
