The drive to inoculate 2.9 lakh people in Assam in the first phase is crucial for the North East, as it can become a test-case for the rest of the six states in the region

Being the largest economy in the North East and the largest tea growing region in the world, Assam is a significant state as far as the Indian economy is concerned. The state that accounts for nearly 54 per cent of India’s total tea production and around 14 per cent of the world’s tea production, will vaccinate nearly 3 lakh people in the first phase of the nationwide drive that is expected to last eight weeks. According to Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, a total of 2.9 lakh people 1.9 lakh health workers and 1 lakh frontline workers will be vaccinated across 65 centres located in 33 districts in the first phase. Schools in Mizoram Reopens Today
The SOPs issued by the states are in line with the Centre’s guidelines pertaining to restrictions- number of students, teaching and non-teaching staff.
Aizawl: Following COVID-19 safety guidelines-Schools in Mizoram reopened on January 22.
According to the official statement released by the state health minister, the state government has also decided to reopen the places of worship in Mizoram from February 2021.
The meeting was preceded by state Health Minister R Lalthangliana.
Meanwhile, as per the new notification, the state government has also allowed the students to stay in hostels in order to prepare for the board examinations.

The target of the first phase is to vaccinate 1,90,000 health care workers in Assam and 1,00,000 frontline workers in the second phase of the drive.

Bokakhat: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the COVID-19 vaccination drive across the country, in Assam Dr Milan Kumar Laskar was the first doctor to receive the vaccine shot in Bokakhat.
The doctor has been vaccinated at Swahid Kamala Miri Subdivision Civil Hospital at Bokakhat. Meanwhile, 406 frontline workers will be vaccinated in the first phase at Bokakhat subdivision.
It is to be mentioned that the vaccination drive in Assam was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister at the Assam Medical College(AMC), Dibrugarh while Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the drive at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital(GMCH), Guwahati.

Guwahati/Agartala/Imphal, Jan 15 : The eight northeastern states are geared up to start the first phase of Covid vaccination drive on Saturday along with the rest of the country, ministers and officials said on Friday.
According to the health officials, the Covid-19 vaccines reached all the eight northeastern states during the past four days for the first round of immunisation, which follows dry runs, training of health workers and readying the infrastructure needed.
