New
South Wales will start taxing increases in property values
caused by state spending on infrastructure, and rezoning of
land uses by councils, The Urban Developer’s Ted Tabet
reports.
A new “infrastructure contributions
system” will be rolled out as part
of the annual NSW budget which will directly affect
developers building transit or infrastructure-oriented
projects in the most populated areas of the state.
The
reform, spearheaded by the NSW Productivity Commission, will
alter the way taxes are charged on property developers in
return for approvals of their projects.

Today’s first full business meeting of the new
Wellington Regional Leadership Committee marks the start of
a collaborative partnership designed to shape future growth
in the Wellington-Wairarapa-Horowhenua region.
The
partnership has been progressed as part of the
Government’s Urban Growth Agenda to improve co-ordination
and alignment between central and local government and mana
whenua in New Zealand’s high growth urban areas.
The
committee brings together key leaders across the region,
including the regional chair, mayors from each of the
region’s local authorities and Horowhenua District
Council, mana whenua partners, and central government
ministers.

Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) today joins an
initiative to welcome new residents settling in the
district.
The Council has been selected by Immigration
New Zealand, the Human Rights Commission, and the Office of
Ethnic Communities to participate in Welcoming Communities
Te Waharoa ki ngā Hapori, a project to support newcomers to
feel welcomed and able to participate in the economic,
civic, cultural and social life of their new
community.
The initiative will be rolled out over
three years and builds on a pilot programme by Immigration
New Zealand across five regions in New Zealand from 2017 to

“The ACT Party has today congratulated the Government
on reaching 1,000 KiwiBuild houses,” says ACT’s Housing

15,000 homes behind schedule.
