ATLANTA Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said Friday that she did not know what she would be doing next after announcing she won t seek a second term in office, but dispelled a rumor that she would be joining Walgreens.
What the mayor has in store after Thursday night s shock announcement not to run for re-election has been front of mind in Atlanta, but Bottoms did not offer a concrete direction in which she would go.
She did, however, flatly reject the idea that she would go work for Chicago-based Walgreens, where she is friends with CEO Rosalind Brewer, or leave the city of Atlanta.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in an emotional Friday morning press conference said that she s been honored to be the mayor of Atlanta, as she said it s time to pass the baton to someone else by not running for reelection. This has been my highest honor to serve as mayor of this city, she said. My family moved to the west side of Atlanta and they found community and they found purpose and they found a way to make the lives of their children better and I stand here on their shoulders.

The Democratic official, who is a supporter of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, did not specify a reason for her departure but said Thursday she is not yet certain of what the future holds pertaining to another bid for public office. My faith teaches me that to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose, Bottoms said in a statement. Nearly five years ago, I entered a season of seeking to become Mayor of Atlanta the city that generations of my family have called home for over 100 years.
